Finally had a chance to check out the Katy Asian Town. I have to say that it's not what I was expecting because from the name it was giving the impression that it was an established and organically created neighborhood the way Houston's Chinatown and Little Saigon on Bellaire, along with Koreatown in Spring Branch, and all the Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern places on Hillcroft are. Actually, every International district I've seen anywhere has been pretty old and established.
Katy Asian Town on the other hand is closer to an Asian LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch - something a Developer put together because the population in the area had hit critical mass and they wanted to cash in on the people looking for Asian flavors without driving all the way to Houston. There is nothing wrong with it, but just wanted to point out that it's a concrete jungle. Speaking of which, parking is kind of hectic here mostly because the parking lot doesn't make sense so people circle around and are looking for the place they're supposed to go to so they aren't paying attention so keep your head on a swivel and watch out.
Also, the term "Asian" is defined pretty narrowly - I saw Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese so if you're down for some Indian, Pakistani, Persian, Arabic, Turkish, etc. food then this isn't the place for that. Again, not saying there is anything wrong with that and I'm pretty used to it by now as I am not "that kind of Asian" as my buddy Vinh likes to say (little inside joke for you there), but that's just the way it is. From what I was told, a lot of the places here are also chains from the west coast so it's a good chance to try places that you may have heard of before but never had a chance to try.
I know from my description it sounded like I didn't it here, but I actually did and will revisit again.
