Katy's Dumplings - Oak Park

Moving my reviews over from Yelp. Originally published 2/2020: What a great find! They make a lot (but not all) of their stuff in-house so it's very fresh. I personally think that fresh pasta is one of those things that is like the scene with the red or blue pill choice from the Matrix. One shows him the truth and the other returns him to blissful ignorance. Yep, fresh pasta is a similar experience. We ordered potstickers, beef chow fun and wonton soup. There's not one of those dishes that was less than spectacular although the beef chow fun stood out for two reasons: 1. incredibly salty 2. insanely tender beef You should be good to order the beef chow fun as long as a bit of extra sodium won't send you to the hospital. If it will, get something else. If it won't, you're in for a treat. The noodles in this dish are not made in-house but they are prepared expertly. The dish could have used a few less onions but I probably should have thought to ask for just a little onion. The real standout is the beef. I'm not sure what they did as far as a marinade but the pieces of meat were fork-tender and incredibly flavorful. I would call the potstickers a "must order" if you visit. They offer several different permutations but we went pretty traditional and ordered the pork. They arrived with the entrees but it worked out since everything was served piping hot and we let various dishes cool a little before eating. The potstickers didn't hold heat like the chow fun so they were consumed first. Tender yet firm dough, very flavorful seasoning and a pretty typical dipping sauce to round out the plate. I tried the wife's wonton soup as well. The wontons were expertly made and none of them came apart in the broth. They were on par with the potstickers too. The noodles were freshly made and (even though they are a bit dense) presented as tender and perfectly cooked. The broth itself was rich and full of flavor. Very good dish!

Katy’s Dumplings Oak Park was valid. The Beef Chow Fun was on point, with perfectly cooked wide noodles, just the right amount of sauce, silky beef and crispy edges yummy. The dumplings were good Pork and cabbage and shrimp with greens. Mao Po tofu was perfectly seasoned and tofu was excellent. We also tried the Dumpling noodle soup which was ok. The scallion pancake was bland and chewy so I don’t recommend it. I highly recommend all the other dishes though and prices were fair and portions were large. I will definitely be back. Service was super too.

By far the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Everything is amazing. The three chili fish, mapo tofu, chow fun and crab Rangoons are our favorites.

Bummed to have to say this but the food was pretty bad. I don't know how they can burn and then go ahead and serve onion pancake this way, unless they don't care. The pork and cabbage dumplings were unlike any we've had, but not seem necessarily bad. But the shrimp in the spring rolls was undercooked and mushy still. The location is fantastic and the decor good. We only did takeout so not sure how the waitstaff is. Unfortunately we'll have to go a bit further for authentic Chinese food, as this seemed to offer it, and then disappoint.

The dumplings are not good at all. I’ve had frozen grocery store dumplings that were far superior in taste. The cucumber salad was also tasteless. The chow fun noodles tasted like pure oil, beef was flavorless. The server was kind and attentive though.

Horrible service - one of the servers looked like she hated being there and our existence was a great bother to her. Food was not good, borderline inedible. The beef in beef noodle soup was undercooked. The broth tastes different, very one dimensional and simple/non complex vs Westmont. Likely since it wasn’t stewed for the required amount of time for it to attain complexity. The dumpling wrapper was so thick and the filling was so under seasoned it tasted like play dough. At least the portion was decent, but why would anyone want a large quantity of terrible food? Again, the server was in such a bad mood (and didn’t check up on us once) that I decided it was best not raise the concern. The og location in Westmont is far superior. If quality control was going to be such a problem, I don’t think opening up a second location was the best decision. The fortune cookie was interesting, though.

Saw this on IG some time ago and saved it in my list of places to go because the food looked absolutely delicious but it ended up being a disappointment. The service was friendly and fast. The food was a big let down. We had few of the dumplings because of the name sake. The juicy dumplings were not juicy at all and was merely warm. It felt like the filling was not even cooked through. The spicy dumplings were soggy but the sauce was great. We had couple of stir fry noodle dishes that were so dry. The presentation was meh because the noodles were on one side and the meat and the veggies were on one side. Might be better to save your dollar for a China town visit for later.

I had the combo fried rice. And dumplings. DELICIOUS

Since moving to Oak Park, Katy's has been the go-to Chinese place for us. We usually try to go once every two weeks! We've since tried more items on the menu. The Xinjiang style lamb is a favorite. We like the vegetable chow fun as well. There hasn't been an item on the menu that we dislike.

I'm very happy that we got the chance to try Katy's Dumplings while we were here. The food was really good. I tried some of everybody's food in our party and everything was delicious. We had kids with us and they ate a little bit of everything too, which is always high praise if you have little ones! I have to say the orange chicken was really good. Usually I get kind of bored with orange chicken but this was very tasty, the beef fried noodles was also surprisingly good. I wasn't sure that would be my cuppa tea, but it totally was outstanding but they did get the job done. Just not overly friendly.

I ordered catering for a work party and they delivered promptly with everything we needed - plenty of dipping sauces and utensils. I got compliments about the food choice from my coworkers and everyone enjoyed the variety of dumplings. It was fun change to the usual catered lunches. Their dumpling dough is on the thicker side and they don't skimp on the fillings. I prefer the pan-fried dumplings over the boiled dumplings. I highly recommend this place, especially for their handmade dumplings.

This kung pao chicken was 5% chicken, 80% veggies and 15% peanuts. I love veggies but I didn't order kung pao veggies and that's what this dish should've been called. A little disappointed when I got home to eat this for Christmas dinner. I do not recommend.

just stopped in to take some dumplings home as we were Hungry as hippos. they were a solid 3. not amazing. not bad. we ate a few and forgot about them in the fridge the next day. that is to say: they weren't those leftovers that call to you. that you want to eat for breakfast. but they made a nice snack a day later. would definitely try some other dishes as people seem to rave about the place.

Consistent and delicious even if ordered for pick up or delivery. The restaurant space is intimate and comfortable, good for a group. Everything I had has been fresh and seasoned well. The servers are quick and the food comes out in decent time.

The food was good! The service was awesome. I was happy with my meal and glad I chose Katy's Dumpling!!! I will be back. I got the Honey Citron Iced Tea with Lychee Jelly, that was delicious & refreshing. The Spring rolls were fresh & I loved the sauce. My favorite was the General Tao's Chicken!!! The shrimp fried noodle was good! It was nice and quiet inside. Lastly, my service was quick and friendly.

There's some really good dishes here. I did not pick the good ones this time unfortunately. My go to is their beef noodle soup. Quality- the sweet crispy fish was pretty good. You don't usually associate fish with sweet so this is a nice change. The eggplant dish was flavorful and fresh. I was not a fan of the beef and brocolli and the flat noodle dish. It didn't have any interesting flavors. Quantity- u get a fair amount for the price. Atmosphere- nice and welcoming. Service- pretty fast.

Very nice and quiet place. Authentic Chinese food. The wonton noodle soup is served with think white noodle, about 4 wontons and 3 bok choy, flavor may be too bland for many, but just right for me. The beef noodle soup is full of flavor, as expected with curry and numbing peppercorn if that's your liking. The steam juicy bun was nice with soup so best to let it cook down before popping the whole bun in your mouth because soup is steamed in the bun. Vinegar soy sauce comes with the buns. Didn't ask if they have ginger which usually is served with it. Service was expected with one staff seat, taking orders, sr Parking in the nearby garage is recommended. Free 1.5 hour, then $2 for 1.5-2.5 hours.

With so many Chinese/Asian options, Katy's Dumplings- Oak Park can easily be missed. But don't! Don't miss out on good quality food with reasonable pricing and good portions. Our go to is definitely their General Taos Chicken. It manages to remain crispy and saucy at the same time! It has a perfect balance of sweetness and heat. Their noodle dishes are also amazing! Great flavor and so filling! Our son loves their noodles and their fried rice!

I was craving for spicy dumplings and saw the resto posted by my fb friend but thr westmont location. Glad they have one near me. The dumplings i ordered is yummy. The sauce taste just the right tanginess and saltiness. Not too spicy but can add chili paste anyway. The soup doesnt look appetizing when you look at it but it actually taste good :-). I am excited to try other dishes next time. The place looks nice and clean. The service staff are attentive. No parking space just street parking.

Cute spot, fun art work. From the outside, it's always hard to tell if they are open due to the tint on the window, but we walked in and several tables were filled. The servers were nice. The food was worth trying. I think we didn't realize how many fried items we ordered until we got them. Oops. But they were all good, fresh oil not too saturated. Crisp and delicious. *Juicy Steamed Buns were the star. Definitely comparable to some of the soup dumplings that are my favorites in Chinatown. Would definitely come back for these. *Cha Shu Pork Buns were fluffy and tasty. The filling was great. *Crab Rangoon could use more filling, but were good. *Veggie Egg Rolls had a really tasty filling and texture. *Scallion pancakes weren't my favorite compared to others I've had, but decent. Will definitely return to try other menu items.

Host person was friendly and got us seated quickly. Hot tea was nice. The dumplings we ordered (chicken and beef) were unevenly heated, some cold and some hot. The flavor was ok. Chicken fried rice was solid but the Chow Fun was also unevenly heated and the beef was tough. The service after getting seated was very slow.

I popped in here to pick up a chicken fried rice and the pad Thai. The rice was nice, but I would skip the pad Thai next time. I wasn't crazy about the sauce or the texture of the noodles.

This place is awesome for quick Chinese takeout! We have never dined in person before but we always get takeout and have never had an issue. The Mongolian beef is fantastic however sometimes I wish that there was a bigger beef:onion ratio. So flavorful it and pairs perfectly with fried rice (grandma's fried rice is bomb too). We also love the eggplant with minced pork, as well as the chow fun with chicken. Overall, solid Chinese if you're in the mood for that. Definitely best in the area. Would definitely recommend!

I order take out from Katy's regularly. I ordered the Chengdu Dandan noodles. Holy crap!!! They are a bit spicier than I like but because I order through uber I can't modify that. The pork is delicious and flavorful. Today I ordered the noodles again and was thrilled to see how much garlic was in those noodles. Be careful if you're sensitive to garlic or just don't like it. The veggie eggrolls and mongolian chicken are also good. I will continue to order from Katy's because its delicious.

I had to go to Oak Park for a doctor's appointment. I hadn't been there in years and loved how it looked and loved all the restaurants. I had heard about Katy's so my sister and I had lunch there. We loved everything and even brought some food home for dinner. Not one miss yet. Service is friendly and the booths are comfortable. I have more to try and will definitely go back.

Have enjoyed in the past, but went for takeout the other night and both dishes were a flop. Hot and Sour soup was somehow neither hot nor sour. Three chili chicken was greasy, overly salty, and the fry oil was obviously old, making everything rancid. Hope it was just an off night.

First time ordering from here and will definitely order again! Dumplings were great, Dandan noodles were super spicy in a great way with crisp fresh bok choy, and chow fun had great flavor!

5/5, great food, service and ambiance. We ordered the veggie noodle soup and the beef noodle soup as well as the shrimp and chives pot stickers. We also got Thai iced tea and lychee drink. Both were yummy!

Had dumplings they were not traditional Chinese dumplings. Small little balls with super thick skin and very expensive for small order.

The soup dumplings are the best! The other food a s drinks were just ok. Will definitely return

I am honestly suprised this place is still in business. Tried it 10 years ago when I first moved to OP. The food is mediocre at best and the menu is huge. Just ok in my book.

Great Chengdu Dan Dan noodles with handmade noodles. Great portion size, deliciously seasoned. Spicy and garlicky. The texture of the noodles is great.

Delicious! I highly recommend the chow fun combination (with shrimp, beef, and chicken)--oh so good. Probably the best version of this dish I have ever had. It was perfectly seasoned, the chewy rice noodles slightly scorched and crisped up, with generous helpings of meat. We also ordered the soup dumplings, which were lovely. Very tasty broth, with good flavor of both the soup and the pork filling. Would certainly get that again. Also ordered the beef noodle soup, which was a very generous portion. I would say this one was good, but if I could only get two, I would have axed this one because it didn't come with a veggie. Taiwanese beef noodle soup normally comes with bok choy or some kind of vegetable, which adds a lot to the variation within the dish and lends freshness. Still, an amazing place that I will definitely come back to if I'm in Oak Park again. Bonus points for requiring vaccination cards to dine in!

POOR SERVICE (SLOW) First time checking this place out the waitresses slowest I have ever had plus it was # 4 of them all served my table. My order was pretty small I think soup , fried rice , noodles , dumplings .... no napkins but 1 they forgot to bring asked 3times still forgot-- spicy chili tray asked 4 times to bring and lastly after being done eating they finally brought my soup that should have been the first one out being popular for it from what I heard They were not busy at all were one of 5 tables. Taste was good but service sucks

Was recommended to me by a friend and I'm glad I found a new place for Chinese food! Came here for dinner and catch up with a friend! They do check vax cards btw! The interior is absolutely beautiful! Beautifully decorated with Chinese and asian-inspired decor. The color scheme of the restaurant is mostly red which really set the mood for dinner. Beef noodle soup: So many reviews about this soup and it's definitely soup weather so I went for it. This soup is spicy and has a nice kick to it - perfect for the cold weather!! The noodles are thick and chewy. You can tell they are housemade which makes the overall dish even better to consume. Loads of green onions. Comes with pretty big chunks of beef. The beef was a little more fatty than what I would prefer but it didn't bother me much. The broth itself was so so flavorful. Huge portion overall! Chengdu dumplings: Most reviews recommended these dumplings so me and my friend split it. So delicious! They looked bigger in pictures than in person but they are so filling and cute! Little pockets of love and comfort. The dumplings have a hefty amount of meat inside. Drenched in chili oil with lots of flavors!

Sooo good. Chow fun beef noodles and the spicy dumplings are so good. But everything there is. Staff is kind and answers any questions. A ton of options if you're vegan or dairy free.

Yum - this place is delicious! Inside, there are a variety of different seating options from more secluded booths to open tables that can be pushed together or separated for the size of your group. The price might initially seem a little high, but the portions are huge. Some of the dishes came with sides of rice. The chicken noodle soup was like a cross of heavier udon noodles with a pho-style broth with cilantro. It was perfect for a cold Chicago day. Would definitely recommend! They provided take out containers to bring the remainders home to enjoy the next day, where they reheated well.

Reordered the mapu tofu after two years of not getting it and now it's amazing! Literally everything on the menu rocks.

First time here and we ordered the pork soup dumplings. Definitely not comparable to chinatown but it's a good alternative if you're craving dim sum and don't wanna make the extra drive to chinatown!

Baby friendly and baby-approved. We spent a great time here with our high demand baby. The service was efficient and understanding, which is always of great support for parents. The food was very tasty!!! My husband love their Singapore noodles. It's quiet, clean, and a nice place if you are fan of Chinese food.

Fantastic Crab Rangoon!! I tried a sample of Kay's cuisine during my most recent Thursday Night in Oak Park (2023) it is a weekly event held every Thursday from 5-9pm from June to August as a Taste of Oak Parks restaurants. I highly recommend this event to try out Oak Parks dining experience. I love a perfectly cooked Crab Rangoon! Kate's did not disappoint. It was perfectly cooked and delicious! The service at the counter was friendly and fast. With the crowd of people the waitstaff were friendly and happy. That says a lot for the crowd I experienced. The restaurant is dark, and cramped. Not as tidy as I would like to see. The decor is outdated but the food made up for the ambiance. They sport a robotic server! The eyes roll and blink. It was the center of attention while I was in there. Where I did not see it serve anyone, it was a novelty just the same. I would hate to see it take away from anyone's livelihood, as nothing like this replaces a human smile and warm greetings.

Every dish was amazing. Line for Saturday night dinner as folks know the food is worth the food wait. Ambience was nice. Mongolian beef orange chicken fried rice. Spring rolls were all delicious.

My son and I went to Katy's for the first time on Christmas Eve. We were the 1st customers in the door but were followed shortly by many more. The restaurant is very clean and nice. Important note: They are BYOB; something we failed to take note of when we checked it out before arriving. We ordered the pork and chive pot stickers, soup dumplings and the noodle pancake. I do wish there had been a little more protein in the pancakes, but the serving size itself was more than generous. Different dipping sauces came with the different dishes and that was nice. Everything was very flavorsome and well seasoned. I would definitely recommend Katy's for a relaxing and good time.

The orange chicken is to die for, honestly. I loved the texture of the noodles in the wonton soup, however, the soup itself was little too bland for my liking. The house fried rice was great too; I usually do not eat fried rice but I did not regret trying their fried rice. I will be back for the orange chicken! I also liked the location of this place; downtown oak park is beautiful!

Their YuShan Eggplant is great! The sauce has some zip, but subsided before I needed a drink of water. :) The scallion pancakes are also really good.

Loved the cute decor and extensive menu. The perfect place to share entrees and have a bit of everything! Started with Satay Chicken Skewers and Crab Rangoon - both were delicious. Ordered several entrees to share and there was so much food! Happy with all our choices and all tasted great! Staff seemed a bit overwhelmed at times but remained friendly and helpful.

The reviews here were really misleading. I'm giving two stars only because the manager was really kind once we told her we were unable to eat some of the dishes. We ordered about 6 dishes and they all came out within 5 minutes. Not sure how that was even possible but the chicken noodle soup tasted like dirty water, the dumplings were incredibly soggy, the chicken was overly salted and a lot of the flavoring of the food was off. The decor is nice though?

This restaurant has Horrible customer service. The entire time there the staff was talking to each other and texting. They seemed aggravated that we came in on a Tuesday afternoon. It took awhile for us to receive our food and napkins. The scallion pancakes were burnt and the dumplings were half cooked. They were weird texture and discolored. The passion fruit tasted like sugar water flavorless. I Mongolian Beef when I added the chili oil to it.

When were the tofu slices for the PadThai fried - the Han Dynasty? And if I just wanted spice up ketchup as a sauce I could do that myself.

Chinese food in the Chicagoland area is an awesome thing, unfortunately this spot is not awesome! I had big chunk of the menu and honestly only one dish tasted like something worth having again. I ordered orange chicken... good orange sauce but mushy coating! I ordered grandma fried rice and it kinda tasted like a frozen cosco fried rice with extra egg. I also order crab Rangoon,no crunch... Soggy! Okay I know it's has dumplings in the title .... I ordered beef and scallions dumplings, fried...soggy! Last the stand out dish, Singapore noodles with chicken... a tad bit salty but decent! I also ordered all of this and waited outside, it was made fresh and was steaming hot... so why was the fried food soggy? I paid 75 dollars and afterwards I wish that the Harold's was open down the street at least they would of fried things right!

I've had Chinese/Taiwanese food everywhere in SoCal, NorCal, NY, Minneapolis, Chicago, Seattle, everywhere I can get my hands on it, and was glad to find something in the Chicago suburbs that could compete. They just started opening up dine-in options again. They run pretty lean and so the service (both at the table and getting food) was slower. The restaurant itself isn't the biggest, but it can handle smaller groups (~10 tops). It was a little on the pricier side, which is why the 4 stars and not 5 stars. Our meal below was $63 including tax and tip. Beef noodle soup: Amazingly good. It had thick noodles, which I'm not usually a fan of but here, they were tender yet slightly chewy, and soaked up the flavor of the soup. The broth flavorful, spicy, and its depth of flavors made the beef even better. They soaked up the broth were tender and moist. Even the veggies in the soup weren't overcooked and hard to chew, they were crisp, and were the perfect balance to everything else. Chongqing noodle soup: They warned me about its spice level, so I asked for mild. Even then it definitely had a kick to it, but it was worth the sniffles. This had ground pork, a ton of amazing flavors in its oniony-spicy broth, and the bok choy pieces in it were also perfectly cooked. It also had roasted peanuts in it which gave it an additional crunch and helped with the spiciness of the soup. Delicious!!! Pork & chive dumplings: Disappointing. The skin was too thick and so the dumpling just didn't have a ton of flavor. I usually like somewhat thicker skins, but here the balance was off so the dough had no flavor and the filling couldn't compensate for it. I was planning on buying a couple bags of frozen dumplings (they have those to go as well) if these turned out good, but I opted not to do that. Their other options were way better. Kung pao chicken: Comes with a bowl of rice, also amazingly good. Yes, it is a greasy dish, but everything in it was super fresh. Everything from the slices of moist, flavorful chicken, to the perfectly cooked bell peppers and onions in the dish. Even the roasted peanuts thrown in there had its fresh crunch! There's some kick to this too but had GREAT flavors and was cooked perfectly.

Great service. Delicious food. Very spicy, beef noodle soup, so be prepared for that. Scallion pancakes were crispy and good. Dumplings...so good. Highly recommend.

The food was good. Pickled cucumber had a lot of garlic to the taste (which I love). The dumplings were DELICIOUS!! The Kung pao chicken was tender, not dry at all and WOW, what a kick the sauce had. The noodles weren't bad either. But the noodles were really broken up into small pieces. The cucumber and dumplings came out pretty fast but the rest of the dishes took quite awhile. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with the food but service however was lacking. Not sure if its because they're understaffed. We waited for at least 10-15 mins for 3 small bowls and our bowl of rice that was supposed to come with the Kung pao chicken. Then, come to find out, they forgot about it so that was disappointing.

To be located on Lake street with all the other restaurants, it's amazing they survived Covid. It's a Szechuan style noodles and dumpling house and I love the design and decor. I went with my husband and it was recommended to me and I've been wanting to try it, but my husband isn't the biggest fan of several types of Asian cuisine, but decided to go along. It offers homemade dumplings and various styles of noodle soups as well as some traditional Chinese dishes stir fried. I really liked their Siu loong bow (soup dumplings). They were home made and soupy and I like the thinner dough. It's almost as good as the homemade dumplings in Chinatown on Archer. I ordered the beef tendon noodle soup and it was perfectly seasoned and spicy and it made me feel like I was in Shanghai! Loved loved it. The bowl is ginormous and had more than half left over and when I brought it home my son really liked it, too. The delightful part was watching the robotic waiter bring the entrees to the table. It's great for families and date night as well. Restrooms are clean and up to date. Their second restaurant is on Ogden Avenue in Westchester.

This place is cute and trendy with authentic food that's really old school and delicious. We had a table of six and ordered a lot of everything. Every dish was delicious. I will be dreaming about those Dan Dan noodles and wishing for a trip back to Chicago.
