Where to See the Best Wisteria Blooms in Japan This Spring

"Another popular tunnel is at the Kawachi Wisteria Garden in Kitakyushu. The park is home to 22 different kinds of wisteria that bloom and peak from the end of April through mid-May. Its two tunnels meet to form a large dome, creating a sea of colors to walk beneath." - Travel + Leisure Editors

We arrived around 9 AM on a Thursday, and the crowd was quite light—not many people, so it was easy to take photos with just a short wait. The flowers were in beautiful bloom, and there was a gentle floral scent in the air, which I found really pleasant—something like jasmine or Calendula officinalis. When we arrived by car, there were staff members helping with parking directions. There are restrooms available—fairly clean. The women’s restroom had four stalls, while the men’s had three, though one of them seemed to be temporarily out of order. The walking path is marked as one-way, but there didn’t seem to be any strict enforcement. We saw a couple in wedding attire—hopefully they got some lovely photos. There were also a few small items available for sale near the entrance, but not many.

The flowering season comes only once a year usually around early may, tickets go on sale in April online. Book you time slot for ¥500pp, when you arrive depending on the flowering quality you will need to top up to ¥1500pp like we did (full bloom) Ample parking, well coordinated and overall an amazing experience. Highly recommended. After ticket inspection, take the far right path. It's much easier to walk up. Please NOTE - this is NOT a place to have a picnic, you're not supposed to bring in any food or drinks. Don't be those people, ignorance is not an excuse.

It’s a nice place to visit if you are around kokura. Please buy tickets online and show the QR code to the staff at entrance. The flower tunnels are enchanting, and there are many benches for people to sit and appreciate the ambience. You may find different types of flora collection along the way too. This place is well managed with many staff to direct the traffic and parking. Parking is free. There are also some mobile toilet stands outside near the car park area.

We almost skipped this park because the ticket-buying process is a real headache: confusing website (at least during golden week there is no other way to get a ticket, not even on side) and there were even different prices depending on how “pretty” it currently is (felt a bit like a scam). Once inside, though, it was well worth it. Even during Golden Week it never felt overcrowded and everything was beautifully arranged which made this a worthy stop on our trip. If they could simplify the admission steps and ditch the beauty-based pricing, this would be a top-tier destination. As it stands, the flower park is fantastic, but the experience starts on a sour note.

Already almost full-bloom in late April 2025 (24th). Not too crowded on weekday. Beautiful wisteria tunnel, spherical cave filled with wisteria. Beautiful and nice place to go for sight-seeing. Have 3 tones of colors; white, pink and purple wisteria Recommended for flower lovers and photogenic persons.

We arrived at around 3 pm and was told we need to reserve a slot but I was having issues signing up online so the lady allowed me to pay with credit card. The flowers were already in bloom and it was a beautiful sight but there were too many people to be able to take a nice shot. Overall experience was great. And worth the travel. Very pleased with what I have seen and experienced.

If you don’t have car you need to get a taxi from yahata station even from mt sarakura too . Return around 3000 yen x2 . Now it’s 80% blooming, very pretty well look after wisteria flowers garden. * easier get tickets from 7-11 or Lawson for 500yen but when you go to the garden you will need to pay 1000-1500yen depending on the day of the flowers conditions.

We went on the 27th of April and the flowers were beautiful. We visited the area on our way to Kyoto from Fukuoka. Left our luggage at Kokura and caught a Taxi/DiDi for approx $45 AUD, our driver kindly offered to wait an hour and a half for us to explore Kawachi Fujien Please visit their website for information on peak (bloom) season! Previous 1 star review may have been a week early :) Can confirm today was beautiful, truly an amazing experience. There were many assortments of flowers blooming in time for spring. Photos below do not do this place justice. It allows a 2 hour window per ticket booked and we roughly spent 1-1.5 hours taking all of the aroma and views in!
