Tofu is a simple ingredient. I used to think like that until I went to this Tofu restaurant. Yes a restaurant with home made tofu and transferred the simple ingredient with some cooking magic into variety dishes that we may unheard of and unthink of. The raw. The blended. The deep fried. The marinated. The stew. The pickled. The dessert. You name it. A traditional treat with some nice twist. Go try and blow your mind.

I have not been able to eat at the restaurant. I called and they told me they don’t take reservations. When I show up they told me I need a reservation and the next days were full so it was a bit frustrating. Nethertheless I tried the take out fried tofu which were delicious and the tofu at the shop were also very good.

If you like tofu, you can’t go wrong here. Be sure to make a reservation and be on time cause they serve everyone at one set time.

The atsu-age tofu and the pudding were my favorites, but the tofu/tofu-adjacent dishes were all really good.

This tofu shop serves lunch and dinner. Reservations are required as there are only 9 seats at the counter. The tofu is silky smooth, flavours are simple, yet delicious. The decor is simplistic with beautiful Karatsu pottery. It all works together for a wonderful dining experience.

"Kawashima Tofu" -- It's an awesome place where you can fully enjoy the real tofu cuisine. Run by a little tofu shop in a little shopping strip in Karatsu, Saga. Less than 5 min. from Karatsu Station. Easy access from Fukuoka! Make sure you make a reservation ahead of time as it's usually fully booked. A few courses to choose from both for lunch and dinner. Not sure why but they do use dairy for dessert even though they have plenty of soy milk to come up with great dessert... So my friend who is lactose intolerant had to turn down the dessert, but they offered her soy milk soft serve, which was so nice of them. But I just can't help but wonder why they wouldn't serve that in the first place. Their soft serve is really good! You can buy it at the tofu shopfront, next to the restaurant. You can also buy all sort of tofu products at the store. Shipping service available as well.
