The 29 Best Restaurants in Kingston, Jamaica | Eater

"A pizzeria at a cannabis house just makes sense. Kaya Pizzeria doles out some of the island’s best wood-fired, thin-crust pizza, showcasing local ingredients as well as traditional Italian recipes. Whether cannabis is part of your meal or not, the deck at Kaya is a welcoming, open-air space perfect for all, complete with murals and retro artwork. The Kingston location is the third for the Kaya family, following the success of the original location in Drax Hall (the first medical cannabis house in the Caribbean)." - Leisha Wong

How Kaya Restaurant Wants to Empower People of Color in Fine Dining | Eater SF

"In the mid-Market space where Patterson’s Alta CA once lived, I teamed with Daniel Patterson to open Kaya as a spinoff of my beloved Kingston 11, overhauling the menu and giving the decor a light facelift. We opened on the 11th after Alta closed on December 23rd, with a very short three- or four-day kitchen training window; I inherited much of the Alta team who only had to learn the new menu. The food keeps the same flavor profile as Kingston but features different presentation and prep — for example, the black pepper tofu is formed into a rice-and-herb ball, sautéed and topped with pickled vegetables rather than Kingston’s cornstarch-fried version served with three soy sauces and white rice. Early best sellers are jerk chicken, oxtail, black pepper crab (we’re often out of crab), and caramelized carrots. The space was tweaked with a shade of blue, recycled wood trim, bright white walls, and playful Jamaican art by a Trinidadian artist, and the dining room already feels joyful, energetic, and diverse, drawing Jamaican and Black clientele alongside young tech workers and repeat customers who keep bringing friends." - Carolyn Alburger

Check Out Kaya’s Bold Menu of Jerk Spice and Island Flavors | Eater SF

"I was glad to see the city's dearth of Caribbean restaurants eased by the opening of a new spot from Oakland chef Nigel Jones and Daniel Patterson, which replaces Patterson’s Alta CA and offers a flavorful menu built around Jamaican spices and other delicacies from warmer climates. Jones, a native of Jamaica, has carried over signature dishes from his Kingston 11 — including jerk chicken, oxtail stew, and salt fish fritters — while adding new options like black pepper crab and piri piri chicken. Desserts nod to Alta with soft-serve given a Caribbean twist (notably a chocolate habanero soft-serve with pomegranate molasses and lime), and punch bowls developed with Alta Group beverage manager Aaron Paul (the Rude Boi bowl serves four or can be a single and features white rum, cucumber, soursop, and midori). Kaya is open for dinner Tue–Sat 5–10 p.m., late night Thu–Sat 10 p.m.–1 a.m., has happy hour Tue–Fri 4:30–6:30 p.m., and brunch Sat–Sun with reservations available." - Ellen Fort

Visited Kaya with our dog Luna, bought a pre roll which did the job, we had a great evening. Lovely that they are dog friendly as not many places in the city are yet. Thank you for a great evening will definitely be back!

The space no longer feels welcoming... Too much bagga bagga with all the going ons. Drax Hall offers a far better meditative vibe. I'd drive from Kingston to Drax Hall just for peace.

This was a cool spot to come to. Upon entry it was difficult to come in. Apparently you have to have a membership. But things were handled and we were able to make our purchases. I love that they have a menu and description of the side effects of each pre roll. This was very helpful in my selection. Overall I was pleased. I wouldn’t suggest you get mushrooms from here. Those were not effective at all. We got both the gummies and the pills. Neither did what it needed to do. But I would still come back here for the pre rolls and I wouldn’t discourage anyone from visiting this place.

Great ambiance. Great customer service. Poor quality of herbs. For the quality of product that you're getting, it is overpriced. I bought their pack of pre-rolls for $40 US, and their moon rock pre-roll for $20 USD. It's better to go to Kaya herb house. I bought four pre-rolls there for $20, and the quality was so much better.

The pizza was real Italian thin. BUT, they were delicious and can have you eating 4 large in no time. Get your juice in your order, do not order separately. The place was huge with lots of parking especially at the back. The Herb select is wide. You will find what you are looking for. Look at the chart and ask the beautiful female behind the counter what's her best choice. Sign up and membership was super easy. This spot is perfect for a group hang out.
