"Since opening in 2013, Kazu has become a must-dine in Jacksonville for sushi fans. The Mandarin neighborhood restaurant is small, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in superb sushi and ultra-fresh sashimi. Diners looking to get a peek at the making of their dinner should sit at the small sushi bar where you can watch the chefs prep each roll. Those looking for something more adventurous on the menu should try out the Spicy Tuna Popper, which is Kazu’s take on a jalapeno popper, with the spicy pepper, cream cheese, spicy tuna, and eel sauce to add a bit of sweetness." - Megan duBois

Lots of options, so choosing the correct dish is important to having a good dining experience. I went with the choice of two protein black peppered seared ahi tuna and regular ahi tuna poke bowl this time. Excellent choice and highly recommended 5 stars all-day

The chicken wasn’t seasoned. The steak look like something from the vivarium box they served the stranded people in the movie. Don’t worry I’m taking pictures….although Gordon Ramsey might cuss and tear the place down…… I will not discredit the servers they worked their a^^^ off but THAT KITCHEN needs some work!

This restaurant is a classic sushi restaurant and they been here since 2013! They have special sushi like Hokkaido scallop, Uni from Japan, ootoro ( fatty tuna ) etc Their lunch bento box is very reasonable- $12.50 ! Lunch 3 sushi rolls - $12.95 They also have happy hours (4:30pm - 6pm ) too - if you get one special sushi roll , get one regular sushi roll for free!

When you go to Kazu, you will be so impressed with EVERYTHING! The food is fresh and delicious! They even serve their own homemade Soy Sauce! The Hostess and Server were great.. My favorite is their Pork Gyoza, melt in your mouth fantastic! 😍🤩I can't say enough to truly convey how awesome this place is.... Just go, you will NOT be disappointed!

My server was impressively attentive for having a full dining room and just being a solo diner. The green curry shrimp soup was the best I have ever had and it is my new favorite soup! I also had the Lemon Drop specialty roll which was deliciously zesty. I had never had lemon on a sushi roll and it did not disappoint. Can't wait to come back with my family and try some more!

Presentation - 5 Stars Menu - 5 Stars (really inventive) Service - 5 Stars Food - 4 stars What a find. Our normal sushi spot is closed on Monday night, so this was the highest rated restaurant that was nearby. So glad we ventured out because the service was amazing and the menu was really inventive and unique. The restaurant is clean and parking is plentiful, so those items are good. But the food itself: Seaweed Salad - refreshing, delicious, solid choice Side Salad - solid choice, fresh, maybe lettuce cut was too thick, but ginger dressing was delicious. Shrimp Tempura - really good Philadelphia Roll - nothing special but it was a solid roll. Black Dragon Roll - good, but description was better. Sweet Potato Roll - a family favorite and they do it well. NY, NY Roll - another, it was good but the description was better. It just was not very flavorful. Salmon Lovers Roll - OUTRAGEOUSLY DELICIOUS. Get this roll, better yet get two. Smoked Salmon Roll - ooh, another great one. I am seeing a trend with good salmon. There are half a dozen items I would like to try, so I am making plans for my next visit.

Google
A top notch neighborhood sushi restaurant. Above average nigiri, I didn’t try their hot dishes but would expect them to be great.

Google
I love this place so much. The food is always amazing and I've never had a bad experience eating here. The staff is nice (they never judge me for eating a ton of food like some places), the buffalo chicken dumplings are fire, and the sushi is amazing. You've got to go during the weekday for dinner and take advantage of their happy hour deals. If I had to find a fault, it'd be that some appetizers may be small portioned but the sushi deal is so good it's not that I'd ever go hungry.

Michael S.

Yelp
My favourite sushi in Jacksonville so far! Portions and taste were amazing! We shared multiple rolls, and to me spectrum was the top one! The only thing i didn't really enjoy was their moshi for dessert, it was kinda of soggy. They have an ample selection of sake, but if you haven't tried the plum wine, you must!

Yelp
We had dinner with another couple on a Busy Saturday night and the service was a little slow but as understandable given how busy they were. Our server did a great job of taking our orders correctly and delivering exactly what we ordered. The food is really delicious and they have an extensive Asian menu with something for everyone. We had sushi and sashimi, he had a bento box and she had fried rice and a salad and everyone really enjoyed the meal. The prices are reasonable. The atmosphere was a little noisy but again it was a very busy Saturday night. The facility is a little tired but clean and comfortable. They even had a couple of craft beers to choose from which is not the norm at most Asian restaurants. Usually it's a couple of mass market US beers and a few Asian beers but here they had a couple from Intuition and some other brewery I'm not familiar with. We've been here 3 times and will go back again.

Yelp
Kazu is always spectacular! My best friend and I had dinner last night and both agreed that the food here really is top tier. It's the freshest quality, the best flavors, and excellent service. Yung was very pleasant & helpful in our sake selection (we went with the Snow Maiden - delicious!) and was prompt with service. Our absolute favorite roll was the Lemon Drop roll. However, everything here is so fresh that you can't really go wrong. The edamame was a nice surprise with our yelp check-in. The vibe is relaxed & cozy, yet very nice. It's a place that you can stop at after a day of shopping with friends, or a nice date night. Will definitely be back!

Alyssa M.

Yelp
Awesome place!!! During their happy hour they do buy a specialty roll get a regular roll for free. The garlic edamame is one of the best things I have ever eaten. The sushi was tasty as well. I cannot say if it's the best in the area or not as I haven't explored any besides this one. Our server was extremely friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. I will absolutely be coming back here for the B1G1!

Raynelle S.

Yelp
Had a great lunch here. For starters, I had the cheese wontons which had a rich, cream cheese filling and were crispy on the outside. The lobster pan fried dumplings were very flavorful with the right amount of filling. I also loved the soft shell crab tempura! I enjoyed the Kazu fried rice which had steak, shrimp , and chicken. Definitely worth coming back here!!

Golnaz E.

Yelp
First time dining at Kazu and it was a great experience. The menu was huge and the quality of food was great. We ordered miso soup which was great, an avocado salad which was fresh and tasty with the ginger sauce, and edamame which was freshly steamed with sea salt. The portions were big, and the price was great for the size and quality. We ordered four special rolls. Our favorite was Spectrum, and then Toro special. The rainbow+ was great too. The service was fast and our server was amazing and friendly. This is a small local restaurant, the decoration is basic but cozy. Exactly what you expect from a sushi restaurant! Highly recommend and will be back soon!

Yelp
We were craving sushi and this restaurant has a perfect location on San Jose blvd. We ordered 2 tuna rolls, a salmon avocado roll & a super california roll. All of the fish was fresh and had a good rice to fish ratio. We also ordered agedashi tofu and miso soup. The tofu has to be one of my favorite appetizers I've had! It was crispy and came with a tempura sauce that was out of this world! As for the miso, it almost tasted like it was just water with seaweed chunks... wasn't impressed by this. The total was $45 (not including tip) so I say this is pretty reasonable but I did see a few rolls on the menu that were $16/each... I didn't purchase those ones. Overall, I enjoyed coming here! I say give it a try!

Yelp
Move up to FIVE; Why? Service is outstanding. Attitude speaking with customers is very good, Food quality is excellent, Prices are reasonable. I am 1'st Gen Italian & only eat oriental food maybe once a month; Have been to many others over the years in NY, Tx, AZ, & other parts of Florida, but to my taste this is the best.

Dee R.

Yelp
We were excited to try their menu and ordered for eat in. We had their salad and soup first. The lettuce was cold and the ginger dressing was pretty good. The soup was warm and had a light flavor that I really enjoyed. We both ordered teriyaki. Chicken and shrimp for me, steak and chicken for my dinner partner. The food came out quickly and we did both like the chicken. The steak was bit chewy and my shrimp not as firm and sweet as I like. I also wished the sauce had a bit more flavor. The broccoli was a little under cooked/steamed and needed seasoning. We were glad we stopped by, however, if we go again we will order something different. Make sure you check in for a YELP treat.

Yelp
Went to Kazu the other night while I had family in town! We enjoyed our food and our waitress was very nice and accommodating (she even moved us to a bigger table). Since I'm not a big sushi fan, I was pleasantly surprised to see so many menu options that fit my preferences. I ended up ordering the cheese wontons as my appetizer and chicken and steak teriyaki with fried rice for my entree. From the meat to the veggies, everything tasted nice and fresh! This is small restaurant, but still very busy on weekends. If there are more than 2 or 3 people in your party, I would recommend calling ahead to see what the wait time is or if you can reserve a table. Thank you for the pleasant experience, Kazu!

Sasha P.

Yelp
Not only is this location super convenient to my house, but super delicious and always reliable. I would eat here for lunch and dinner every day if I could... just saying. The lunch specials are incredible - my husband and I love getting the two or three roll special plus a soup or salad. It's a great deal and you can't beat it for that quality and service you receive. With my shellfish allergy, I appreciate any restaurant that can safely serve me and this is my go-to for sushi. I'm all about the Alaska roll and anything else that comes with avocado. It's a nice atmosphere and an excellent place to eat: never too loud, never too packed, never disappointing. Or if you're looking for sushi delivery... Kazu can still take care of you. It's a win win either way!

Theresa S.

Yelp
Normal little sushi spot from the look of the outer appearance. Has much more to offer... Great location on San Jose. Nice and clean tables Lots of space (can accommodate large group) Someone is always there to greet you Very clean (as soon as a costumer leaves they're on it) Bathroom has been remodeled A+ and clean A+++ Price is reasonable I had the ribeye steak w/veggies, Clear soup and Avocado Ball Food is delicious, I did not care for my veggies they could have been cooked longer and seasoned. Serving size is a nice portion

David Wiles K.

Yelp
Still my favorite for sushi around here. And the new "satellite" stores that have sprung up are a great addition to the area. The main restaurant has a nice beer list with some rare options. And exquisite rolls. If their roasted squid appetizer is still on the menu, give that a try. And I'm pretty sure the Kazu Sushi Burrito chain is run by the same company. Obviously not as fancy. Fast food style. But that's a quick and affordable sushi lunch with the kids. Roll combo or design-your-own poke bowl.

Elizabeth N.

Yelp
Daddy always said "when you're hungry, look for where the police officers and firemen eat because they eat at the best restaurants." Well you will find police officers and firemen at Kazu Japanese Restaurant, because their food is amazing, and you know you won't have to worry about anybody inhaling this delicious food and choking, because there's always a first responder nearby. I've tried everything from the sushi, Poké bowls, teriyaki chicken and everything I have eaten has been mouthwateringly delicious, you cannot go wrong here & the prices are inflation proof! I highly recommend Kazu Japanese Restaurant. It's great for families, first dates, second, third and fourth dates & yes, even a make up date

Mark S.

Yelp
Great sushi staff and service every time. I love this place. Usually go for late lunch early dinner when it's not too busy

Jen D.

Yelp
I'm a regular in Kazu since this is the closest to me and everything is amazing! The toro sushi is worth a try! My regular is a poke burrito and their soups. Service is amazing as well! Very quick and friendly staff.

Michael B.

Yelp
Every now and then I want a stuffed sushi burrito and I will DoorDash from Kazu Japanese and sometimes I really pig out with the deep fried sushi burrito. While we haven't dined in yet, we look forward to doing so very soon.

Mark S.

Yelp
We get dinner from Kazu at least once a week. We cannot say enough excellent things about the food, service and every other aspect of the restaurant.

Catelyn P.

Yelp
Walked in and never was acknowledged!! For 11 minutes!!!!!!!!!!! There were only 2 customers sitting so it wasn't busy at all. One woman walked from the back , looked at me and walked back in the back. There was a man at the sushi bar/counter and kept looking at me but never even acknowledged me. Once i started waking up to him, he finally said one minute. I went back and stood for another 5 minutes and finally walked out. Horrible customer service!!! Do not recommend!!!

James L.

Yelp
Im not sure why all the positive reviews for this place. Date night! My wife decided she wanted to try an asian place so we drove here. We started dinner with the garlic edamame appetizer. It was ok but not the greatest thing ever. My son had a shrimp tempura roll and i had a spicy tuna roll. Nothing really wowed me about those. The tuna was actually not chilled and was kinda warm. Next came the entrees. I ordered the bento box, it comes with a California roll but it was also kinda warm. The veggies that was with dinner tasted fresh and the soup and salads were good. My son had the kazu fried rice with shrimp and my wife had one with chicken. They were large portions which was nice to see, however they were totally flavorless as i watched my son just pour the shrimp sauce on it to give it flavor. All in all not happy. We took 2/3rds of dinner home and it will probably end up in the trash. Btw it was a nice looking, clean place. The staff wasnt very friendly, but that was ok. We wont be back here and will not recommend it.

Bruce T.

Yelp
Great sushi; good service; ambiance is plain. The avocado ball is extraordinary! The special toro tuna roll is my favorite though. Crazy roll is deep fried and contains no rice. Great for dieters. They also stock Hawaiian bottled beer.

Robert C.

Yelp
So, we drove 35 mins., to go here, best decision I ever made. The sushi was absolutely phenomenal. We had salmon belly, Toro, Ikura w/quail egg, hamachi, yellow tail, three great rolls and a wonderful spicy scallop hand roll not to forget a unique appetizer consisting of fried rice paper stuffed with tuna, salmon, snapper and crab. Our waiter, Yong was fantastic ( like Spiderman on roids ) he was on top of everything! Highly recommended.

Gary J.

Yelp
Been here nearly numerous times, never disappointed, very consistent quality, service, and staff!!!

Jessica P.

Yelp
Delicious sushi tonight and it was plated so nicely. We all enjoyed the dining area and received good service. Friendly staff and clean establishment.

Kimo Q.

Yelp
Sushi here is great. Price is good not too bad. Food quality is awesome. Service is good. Will definitely be back

Christine P.

Yelp
I heard good things about this place so I thought I would try it. When we sat down the waitress brought our drinks. We ordered soup and salad with our meal which we never got. We received our food and it was drenched in teriyaki sauce. We asked to speak to the manager and the waitress informed us that he did not want to speak to us. Needless to say I will never be back. On a good note the waitress was very polite and apologetic.

E K.

Yelp
I ordered Chirashi. It's rice was not prepared properly as Sushi rice. It was just cold rice without flavor. And Tilapia fish and another unknown kind of fish used for this Chirashi was tasteless. I can tell this Chirashi was not prepared by a real sushi chef. Disappointing!

Mark R.

Yelp
The food was outstanding and the creative options were plentiful. I know I normally start out talking about customer service but tonight, I'm going to focus on the food first. There was 12 of us in the group and each of us got something different and what was unique you got to actually create what type of Japanese burrito or Japanese bowl you preferred or you could order off the traditional menu. The food came out relatively quick, the correct temperature, with outstanding flavor! I added the pickled ginger with toasted garlic to my bowl and that added such flavor! It was not overpowering but you knew it was there and that's what counts. The burrito my mother had contained dynamite spice not familiar with what that is but she loved it. The edamame was fresh their tofu appetizer was outstanding. We had great customer service, the waitress was very patient as I said there was 12 of us and she never missed a beat. This is one place I will highly recommend !!!

Ridge S.

Yelp
I had an amazing Poke Bowl here today. White rice, tuna, salmon, smoked eel, cucumber, mango, scallions, edamame, and shrimp sauce. The fish was cut fresh by the sushi chef and the smoked eel were all delicious. A nice warm green tea helped a cold day warm up. Nice quiet environment which was easy to relax and enjoy lunch. A very nice experience.

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
We booked a reservation for 6:30, came on time and didn't get seated till 6:50. Once we got seated our waitress was extremely nice and helped us navigate the menu! The food came quickly and the sushi was amazing with high quality fish! The spicy tuna roll was very fresh and not a lot of mayo which was great. I would recommend coming here but be prepared to wait a bit and spend a decent amount of money.

Brittany C.

Yelp
If you are looking for the best sushi in Jacksonville, look no further. This place blows every other place out of the water. It is exciting to see their chefs love of their craft in the food. Every time we have gone, I have always been amazed at the presentation and flavors. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for fantastic sushi!

Lovely R.

Yelp
I have been looking for a restaurant that offers toro (fatty tuna) or variations of it after trying it out in Orlando. I was EXCITED after finding out this restaurant offered it. The service and food was really good!! The fatty tuna nigiri definitely satisfied my craving, but it was definitely on the pricier side at $11.50 per 2 pieces of nigiri. My SO and I also came in during happy hour which we weren't aware of but very much glad considering the amount of sushi we ate. We are definitely coming back and bringing some friends next time.

Emily M.

Yelp
Today was my dad birthday and we went to Kazu. The tables are distanced and all workers were wearing masks. We started off by ordering Veggie Dumplings and Avocado Ball which was the special. The avocado ball had spicy tuna and shrimp inside with avocado with 24 carat gold / fish eggs on top. It was delicious. We got a bunch of rolls and they were all very fresh and delicious. Freshest sushi in Jax. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Felix S.

Yelp
Sushi is one of my favorite Japanese food. I have tried Sushi in Ginza, Suburb Tokyo, with my Japanese friends. I can definitely say that this Kazu Japanese Restaurant is one of the best Sushi restaurant in Jacksonville, FL.

Greg M.

Yelp
I love eating at Kazu the food is excellent service is good I have referred many friends to go here and have taken my family there several times the sushi is always very fresh

Alexandra S.

Yelp
I was quite disappointed with my sushi.... I got a salmon roll, and a Salomon cucumber roll. Didn't taste great, looked like grocery store sushi, the rolls were falling apart. It was expensive for what it was.

Bakchun K.

Yelp
We were driving down route I-95 to Florida from NYC. It was time for us to take a rest from our long road trip and have lunch. We were in the Jacksonville area and found this sushi restaurant. It had high ratings and we decided to give it a try. I ordered the sushi & sashimi combo, which includes, 3 pcs of sushi, 8 pcs of sashimi & a spicy tuna roll ($13.95). I thought the cuts of fish were too thin and could've been thicker. This was a lunch special so I guess portions are smaller. Food is ordinary and nothing stood out.

Steve C.

Yelp
Chicken katsu very good. Small well designed venue with pleasant service. Tasty tasty

Yvonne C.

Yelp
Horrible service!! Food was terrible !! Ordered the teriyaki chicken, vegetables were raw. Chicken was cold. Will not be back

Fernanda D.

Yelp
This place is really good and nice service. Everything is great about this place. Im speechless

Brian D.

Yelp
Friday night and the search was on for some sushi. Searching through Yelp we found Kazu. We weren't looking for the burrito place that is also pretty good. So in we went. The place was pretty crowded and had to wait a few minutes for a table. Our waitress was good. She checked on us frequently and made sure we got what we needed. The sushi was really good. We got a nice mix of tempura, soft shell crab, maguro and other pieces. Prices were decent. The hot sake was okay. It was hot with a decent flavor but I've had much better. Plus there is a special for Yelpers. Overall, this was a good find and we'll be back.

Sharon M.

Yelp
I've meaning to try this place out & needed to use our Teal Deals before they expire next month. We'll definitely be back to try other rolls! Good service, the sushi hit the spot and isn't overpriced. Regular rolls are $3.95-$7.95 with the tons of options under $5.75. The special rolls are $10.95-$13.95. I recommend the Tuna Lovers Roll (Crunchy spicy tuna inside, with tuna, tobiko, scallion, and rice crunchy on top) & the Spectrum Roll (Tuna, salmon, yellowtail & avocado inside, with tuna & salmon outside) Chicken Katsu Bento box: Thumbs up; it's a good portion & comes with soup, salad, rice, a California roll & 2 spring rolls. My kids could probably even split this. They have sushi burritos too!

D S.

Yelp
Really great sushi and Poke Bowls The service is wonderful and the restaurant is very pretty. Love eating here.

VyVy V.

Yelp
We were in the mood for sushi on our last night in JAX before we flew back to DC and came across Kazu on Yelp with great reviews! We also saw that they were known for their sushi burritos but after seeing how extensive their menu was, we decided to order a bunch of different rolls to try. The sushi tasted really fresh and was well made. They surely live up to their reputation of being one of the best in Jacksonville for several years straight!

Curles B.

Yelp
Came here tonight for my birthday dinner and was totally disappointed. Didn't touch the entrée and talked to the manager about the disappointment of the meal and she told us that she can only take $10 off a $140.00 tab. Definitely want be coming back. Such a disappointment for a birthday dinner.

Shiana B.

Yelp
Delicious!!!! Everything is delicious and fresh! If you're looking for something healthy, delicious and served with creativity, this place is for you!

Nina H.

Yelp
The staff was friendly upon entering and the restaurant was pretty clean. The sushi was good and came out within a reasonable time. Did not have to wait long at all for a saturday lunch. I would recommend and come back.

Pennie B.

Yelp
Always love the food at Kazu. It is my favorite place for Sashimi as David and team use reliably fresh ingredients in a sparkling clean environment. This is a Jacksonville go-to place for myself and my entire extended family!

Lauren K.

Yelp
We've eaten at this restaurant once and ordered it for delivery twice now. Loved it every time! Menu has a wide variety of selections & the sushi is great.
