KazuNori: The Original Hand Roll Bar

Was I impressed? No, not really. Was I dissatisfied? Nope. The food was decent. I was happy that I tried it. The food is served via bar setting. The chef will assemble your handroll in front of you and service multiple people at the same time. I thought that the rice they used was of decent quality. The line moves pretty quickly, so I would not discouraged if it looks long. For reference, if the line stretched from the left wall (facing in) to across the front windows and all the way to the right wall (facing in), you could be seated as quickly as 35 mins. It makes sense since rice is fairly filling and people are encouraged to consume the rolls quickly. They're not huge so people are mostly just inhaling them. As for price, it was good. I didn't think it was very expensive. That's especially true if you compare it to sushi restaurants where you would pay triple the price. And yes, apples to oranges since this place is mainly a handroll restaurant. I think the set was $30 and that's what most people got. I had friends rave about this place so I spent more than the normal customer to see if I was missing anything. For two people, I spent around $130. Did I gain anything from that? Nah, I still thought the food was just ok. My partner liked it though. But they were about to vomit from eating too much so probably keep moderation in mind. I would just stick with their set and maybe one special of the day. For reference, I noticed that other parties of two were paying roughly $75.

We ordered the Nozie 6 hand roll and the 5 hand roll set. The set was around $30 per person, which felt like really good value for money. The queue was about 30 minutes at 6pm, and we noticed it got significantly longer shortly after. The sushi was overall okay and you generally get what you pay for. The tori hand roll was the standout and easily the best of the set. The last two dishes in the Nozie set had a lot going on. The yam roll was cold, warm, and spicy all at once, and the eel hand roll could have benefited from a stronger grilled flavor.

The handrolls were outstanding, ambiente is beautiful and service friendly. Although we had to queue for around an hour on a friday night, I would still say it was worth a visit. So good!

Even though this is first come first serve, we didn’t have any issue coming at lunch time on Saturday during rush hour. The service was great. Everyone was friendly. Prices included tips.

Definitely a place worth visiting if you are a fan of Hand Roll Sushi. The place does not take reservations, you have to queue, but the queue moves pretty fast and you get seated rapidly. The atmosphere is very cozy, and quiet (despite the fact that it is busy). Each roll tried was very good, plus I loved the fact that they have everyday special dishes, depending on the seasonal availability. We got the Sea bass sashimi as a special dish and it was very good! Moreover, the staff is very welcoming and helpful. Would for sure recommend this place!

Loved this restaurant. High quality hand rolls at an incredibly reasonable set price point (especially by NYC standards), with tipping already included in the cost. The service is efficient and non-fussy. The bathroom is way nicer and cleaner than most. They don’t take reservations (unless it’s for a large private party) and there can be a pretty lengthy line at times. The West Village location is smaller than the others but the line still moves relatively quickly. Also appreciated that the music was present but not too loud. Would def recommend!

I love kazu nori! I’ve been to almost every of their locations, and from all the hand roll bars Ive tried this is the best.Although I must say that now that its more famous the line can get really long

Tip: eat FAST! The hand rolls taste best when first placed because the nori/seaweed is still super crispy, the rice is hot, and the fish is cold. Got the 6-roll set and loved the yellowtail best. Super FRESH and clean tasting, especially with the micro scallions! Also,if you go in on a weekend, expect to have to stand inside the restaurant to wait. However- the line moves fast and the vibes are good! Well worth a visit!
