I first had the opportunity to give KC Kombucha a try over the weekend during their Yelp Experience Week event. Going into it, I was already a fan of kombucha, and promised I'd definitely be a returning diner - and here I am!
KC Kombucha is a woman-owned business and Sacramento's first kombucha taproom located in the heart of the Oak Park Neighborhood. In case you couldn't guess, KC Kombucha offers a variety of in-house brewed kombucha, made using locally-sourced ingredients, which I was informed "won't taste like any other kombucha that you've tried before" (spoiler alert: they were right).
Their kombucha is all on tap and will be dispensed in a glass bottle, which you can bring back to get refilled on your next trip! Fun Fact: you can actually bring in any bottle (they recommend glass or metal) to get a refill, it doesn't even have to be one of theirs! In addition, you can also follow their instagram if you want to stay up to date with their weekly flavors or any special flavors that they might have (such as their ever-popular weekend mocktails).
On this day, they had 8 different flavors of kombucha on tap (originally 9, but one of them sold out already). I had previously tried (and loved) their blueberry mint and coconut lime, but as looking to try something different today. I noticed they had a new flavor called berry basket, which was a mixture of various berries and lemon (as opposed to their blueberry mint which is very blueberry forward with additional flavors of spearmint). I decided to get a 16oz of their berry basket and a 16oz of their coconut lime (which to my surprise I discovered I was a fan of).
Being a berry fan, their berry basket was an absolute treat to drink, and (if I dare say) might be my favorite now, as the lemon provides just the right amount of citrus and tang to pair with the sweet berries in the kombucha. I'm not a very big fan of coconut, but I must say their coconut lime was spectacular. The coconut flavor wasn't overpowering at all, allowing me to enjoy the crisp tanginess of the lime.
Their kombucha really doesn't taste like anything I've tried before (whether that's from the grocery store or any other vendors). With other kombuchas I've tried, there's often a very strong acidic aftertaste that lingers, which can make kombucha unappealing to some (even for myself sometimes I'd winch as I took a sip). KC Kombucha's lacks that acrid tang, providing a flavorful drink that's easy to sip on and enjoy. Although I already liked kombucha before, I have to say after trying these flavors from KC Kombucha I don't think I can go back to any other one. The quality and taste of their drinks are truly unparalleled, and I can safely say without a doubt that I'll be a regular here to get my kombucha fix.
If you're a fan of kombucha and supporting a lovely locally owned business, then you absolutely have to stop by KC Kombucha!
