Yelp
Small Polish market that is just different enough from local competitors like Garden Fresh and Fresh International Market to stand out. Parking isn't too difficult here as it's generally not super busy and the size of the store is convenient for getting in and out rather quickly, though this does sacrifice some of the selection you'd get. However, it makes up for this by having a fairly comprehensive section of baked goods, hot foods, and cakes.
Prices are in general low, though not the lowest on all goods. Presentation overall is nice, particularly in how organized the produce section is. It's also nice to see a low percentage of bruised or bad looking fruits or vegetables. There's not too much in terms of organic selection here, though this is likely due to a limit of the store size.
Where this store really shines is in its selection of international items such as yogurt, cheese, butter, meats, sauces, and cookies. I also like the meat quality offered here and its generally good presentation. There's a very nice selection of fresh baked bread, and paczki from Racine Bakery. These are offered at very good prices. The cake selection is also quite competitive and offers a nice change-of-pace from the standard buttercream options you'll find at Jewel or Marianos. The prepared food is also competitively priced, with daily meal deals. Here are some quick thoughts on different items I tried:
Potato pancake: Seasoned nicely with crispy edges.
Meat eggroll: Fluffy and light with a generous amount of ground meat
Mushroom & sauerkraut eggroll: Nice addictive flavor in the mix of mushroom and sauerkraut -- nice and tender texture.
Orange chicken: Seems to be made from breast meat instead of dark meat, I do like the flavor of the fried batter though it's not really similar to the Americanized Chinese style
Mixed veggies: Nice and flavorful. Contains carrots, eggplant, onions, and other vegetables which are herbed and seasoned nicely.
Fried rice: Nice amount of peppers. The rice was overly soft though and lacked "wok hay".
Eclair: Nice puff pastry with a good bready flavor. Smooth and fluffy cream which is very flavorful with a nice light chocolate layer on top.
Cream puff: Delicious cream filling in a nice light shell. Very well done.
Rum ball: Great rum flavor, very aromatic especially with the coconut exterior. I liked the chopped hazelnut and overall pleasant mouthfeel of everything when combined.
Pink napoleon: Filling is a lot like marshmallow. Overall a nice flaky pastry.
Fruit tart: Super cream, thick tasty cream. The crust is nice and crumbly. The fresh fruit is held together nicely by a flavorful gelatin. Well done both in terms of flavor and presentation.
Overall, I do like the convenience of a market this size with a good selection of Polish and other international goods. Checkout is very fast with minimal waiting, and it's fun to shop in a nicely decorated and managed store with friendly staff.
