Housed in a rustic red barn since 1997, KD’s turns out mesquite-smoked brisket, ribs, and classic sides in a lively, memorabilia-filled space. A hometown favorite noted by local guides, it’s a relaxed, unmistakably West Texas experience.

If you’re ever in Midland and craving authentic Texas BBQ, KD’s Bar-B-Q is the spot to hit. The brisket and sausage were absolutely spot-on—smoky, juicy, and full of flavor. Each bite had that perfect balance of tenderness and bark, and the sausage had just the right amount of snap and seasoning. The sweet tea? Texas perfection—refreshing and not overly sweet, exactly how it should be. While the meat and tea stood out as highlights, the potato salad didn’t quite hit the mark. It felt a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the meal, lacking the boldness or texture you’d expect alongside such stellar proteins. That said, the overall experience was great. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town.

Google
This is my first time here, my boss is from here so he advised me to give this place a try, I was very happy with the service, they could tell it was my first time, so the young lady showed me the pit and I picked out my own meat, the BBQ was good and smoked. Try the hot links and you get all the sides like onions, pickles, and jalapenos. Nice place !!

Mark Deleon

Google
Everything was good,Ive been here before,so I know how it works. The only thing I noticed was when she tried to put my tray with meat on the scale and I said hold on just put the meat on scale not the tray, the tray adds weight to it.so watch that.other than that everything thing on my tray cost 21 bucks, pretty good..

Marissa Gutierrez

Google
Got everything on my plate for $16.80 my husband got a little more meat than me so it weighs more, then including a hot link his tray came out to $22, im picky when it comes to bbq & nowhere in my city do they have good bbq in my opinion so i travel to midland if i want bbq because kd’s has not ever disappointed me especially when it comes to flavor

Google
This restaurant has such a welcoming atmosphere, and the staff were so welcoming. The staff helped us right away & was there when we needed refills. The food was amazing & the prices were great. The decor was amazing to look at too, Highly recommend!

Google
I can't believe I hadn't given this place a review! It is definitely not my first time here. Usually come eat here at least once a year ot when ever we travel thru Midland. The food is delish. Can't go wrong with whatever you pick from the menu. The beans are top notch, as is all the food. They have veteran/military discount too!! The brisket and ribs are always my choices. The potato salad is always a great compliment to what ever meat you choose. I'll be stopping by next time I'm in the Permian Basin!

Google
Food was ok not great and it was expensive I got there right when they opened service and staff where great

Google
Dry Dry Dry. I usually come through midland early, back through pretty late. Finally hit it around lunch and decided to give it a shot. Ribs were tough, Dry and flavorless. Brisket was Dry, tasted a but like lighter fluid and zero seasoning. Sausage was decent - hard to screw up ben e Keith heat & eat links. Grossly overpriced, Ive definitely had better bbq at gas stations. Do yourself a favor and stay on the interstate. Podys in pecos or bucks in Sweetwater are not that far, and you'll get a good meal with good service at a reasonable price.

Dennis W.

Yelp
The food is great, the ambiance is West Texas, and the service is excellent! KEEP THE CORN!!! Came in 7-9-25 and tried the new corn side dish. I'll be back for some more! Hope it stays.

Yelp
It's a high bar to hit in Texas to be good bbq. I've had my share of bad and mediocre bbq. I should have figured it would be mediocre when the brisket was sliced off as a hunk instead of properly sliced. Same with sausage. May have just been an inexperienced person at the station. Brisket meat had an "off" flavor. Maybe it was old but it was definitely not good. Sausage was mediocre and ham was terrible. Ham tasted old and had a very strong order to it. Parking lot was full which is what drew us in. Don't let it fool you. Perhaps Midland is short on good bbq which is how this place remains open

Catrina C.

Yelp
When a customer places a larger order you shouldn't question why they want to look through the bag to make sure everything is there. You do want them to sign some receipt claiming they have received right? Don't give your customer attitude Also when a customer asked for plastic wear on said large order again the customer service... they claim we should have asked when we placed said order but that wasn't an option. Also... you starve BAR B Q in west Texas. Yes you should ALWAYS add pickles, onions, jalapeños, bread and sauce. Just like if we came to your restaurant. This is not a recommendation it's FACT. Use your customer service No we won't be back. Other place was closed today when the entire office wanted bar b q.

Yelp
Wow this place was highly recommended by some folks I know that live out here. They were spot on! They had a great variety of favors and types of meat, everything looked so good but I could only sample a few. The taste is what I have to really rave about because some places in West Texas just have toooo much smoke flavor and my stomach can't handle it. KD's was perfect! Not too smoky, and the spices were spot on. I will be back when I come back into town.
google avatar

Yelp
It's unbelievable how dry our brisket was. It was almost impossible to chew through. We tried two bites and dumped the rest in the trash. The meat even smelled bad like it's old. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your money here.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Old school meat on butcher paper and by the pound. 4.0 - Chicken 4.5 - Rib, sweet. 4.1 - Sausage w/ jalapeño and cheese. Pretty spicy after taste.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Always good food, I have been eating there since it opened. Plenty of room, so even when busy there are tables.

Midland O.

Yelp
Very high prices. Not worth the trip. Go to Odessa and visit the place on Faudree Rd. Brantley Creek BBQ. GREAT BBQ THERE!! YOU WONT BE SORRY.

Brad R.

Yelp
Staying in Midland and was looking for some good BBQ. Found this place by our hotel. Other than it was a little confusing entering the restaurant the food was fantastic. Priced by the 1/2lb and plenty of selections to choose from...brisket was fantastic as was the sausage. Would definitely go back and would highly recommend!
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Place was confusing for ordering food. Meat was good. You buy meat by the pound then go to another area for sides and beverage. By the time I sat down my meat had cooled off to room temperature. If I went back I'd get meat only.
google avatar

Satoshi N.

Yelp
This place has some of the better BBQ in Midland, although it is fairly pricey as well, we went in there for lunch and my meal (weighed by the pound) was $54, I eat mostly carnivore so to me that was a little high, but BBQ typically is more expensive for sure, I have paid even more down in Austin Tx
google avatar

Yelp
We were driving across country and Midland, TX happened to be one of our overnight stops. We were pretty excited to try some local TX bbq. KD's is a pretty cool set up. You're in a barn and it's definitely an authentic feeling. We each got the brisket and a hot link. I also got a small cup of peach cobbler as well. Pretty disappointed with the flavor of the meat. We tried our best to finish it, especially for the price we paid for it as well as being people who do not like wasting food. The brisket was a bit on the dry side and the flavor was way too bitter. It tasted straight like smoke. The hot link was super super dry. I wouldn't even call it a hot link. The peach cobbler was good. I wish I got a bigger bowl. Lol. It's pretty pricey for the middle of no where in TX.

Obey P.

Yelp
very dry no flavor, horrible service and very over price. I would recommend gas station food over this place avoid at all times not worth it at all. I see why the place empty
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
This is still good Q. The only problem is that as the pit master is slicing the meat and putting it on your tray, you tend to order more than you can actually eat - and they charge by the pound! No worries, they have "go boxes"!

Christine H.

Yelp
The brisket was extremely dry. The corn tasted boiled and not chargrilled. It had no flavor at all. The spicy baked beans were mediocre. The jalapeño cheese sausage wasn't bad but it was not hot, temperature wise. The cherry cobbler was decent. Peach was not good (friend let me taste hers, not pictured). The potato salad was pretty runny and vinegary tasting. Very disappointed.
google avatar

Sandra D.

Yelp
This is close to where I live. I had it my first time about 3 weeks ago. I liked every thing accept the potato salad. It tasted sour to me. I've had much better. It's kind of pricey but anywhere you get barbecue is pricy. Service is quick.

Yelp
We came here with some relatives after Moe's was OUT OF FOOD. That was a blessing in disguise because KD's was AMAZING. Like another Yelper said, I felt a little apprehensive walking in here. There were items in "Igloo coolers", crockpots, etc... Like you'd see at a Redneck backyard BBQ. Nonetheless, we ate a damn good meal there! We picked brisket, sausage, ribs and pulled pork. (Meat alone for our tray was $39). I grabbed 3 bags of Lays chips for the kiddos and had a side of coleslaw for myself. Our relatives had a similar assortment of meats (meat alone was $33)... they got some sides and drinks. I'd probably say the total was around $100??? Granted, our meals fed 4 adults and 3 kids. We all had our fill. It was so good. We didn't even use BBQ sauce bc the meat was good on it's own. Atmosphere was very unique. Old random stuff filled the walls. Lots to look at. We'd definitely return!

Yelp
I found it !! Best BBQ in West Texas. It was one of those things where I knew I would regret it if I didn't stop. Am I ever glad We did. They have everything. All kinds of meats to choose from, sides, and even dessert. Thank you for the great meal on the road. If you are traveling out there for pleasure or for work. Midland TX. Stop in and try and it. You'll be glad you did !!

Yelp
Well I found this on Yelp, and read review so I came here!!!! It did not disappoint in any way whatsoever. I never had this good of BBQ! The beef brisket was to die for and so tender!!! You get what you pay for and it was the best money ever spent. It was so clean and so old school decor!! What such a wonderful experience to come here! Who ever owns this place I congratulate you on job well done. I have had some good bbq and hands down the best in the USA!!! Those are big words but if you believe me come try it!!!

Yelp
B-R-I-S-K-E-T !!! Eclectic joint that is 100% West Texas. The owner greeted us and gave us the low down on how it works. Grab a tray and sheet of wax paper and get your meats, they weigh them then you can get your specialty sides - they have a bean bar that is free. Billed as the best brisket in town...they are being modest. It is out of this world. Delicious bark, just enough fat and perfectly smoked. Sweet ribs were meaty and Smokey. Wish I would have gotten more brisket though!!! So good!!! Had some spicy beans and potato salad, both were good. Will definitely return!!!!

Angela R.

Yelp
We believed the award that Mac's was given and tried them first. We received a pile of fat for the brisket and were disgusted with the service and attitude of the workers, including the manager. So, we went back to good ole' KD's. And here we received tender, delicious brisket and other delicious items. The manager met us at the door with a smile asking what she could do to make us comfortable. She got our drinks for us. And there was a free bean bar. We left stuffed, satisfied and smiling. The staff is outstanding. The food is out of this world. We're sticking with KD's from now on. We learned our lesson. Doesn't matter who got the award. Trust your gut. It's happy when it's filled with tender, delicious KD's brisket. Just look at that! Enough to make your mouth water just seeing it.

Dennis E.

Yelp
Good barbecue, friendly staff, picnic tables. Not too busy and plenty of barbecue options.
google avatar

Carlos M.

Yelp
Its good smoke BBQ but brisket really doesn't have much flavor only smoke. Q sauce is needed to eat the brisket and ribs.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
The food is tasty and the amount they give you is wonderful. Just make sure you pay with your company card though lol. Service is great too
google avatar

Jimmie M.

Yelp
On our way to Arizona and stopped by KD's as usual when we are passing thru... Everything on this pit is fantastic! I decided to have some peach cobbler this time and it was an excellent choice. When in Midland, Texas make this your place as well! PS Easy parking around the building!
google avatar

Brad C.

Yelp
It's ok. Nothing really made my taste buds twerk! Meat was bland with seasoning but cooked well.

Yelp
This is a pretty cool hole in the wall Bar-B-Q place located on I-20 West. I came here expecting to eat some great authentic Texas barbecue, and was not disappointed. The delivery of the food was very unique, and it's a little confusing at first. The first thing you need to do is choose your meat, they have a variety of precooked meat to choose from, from there they weigh the meat for pricing purposes and set you off to the next station, where you choose your sides and drink. To top it all off, there are also buffet style areas containing pickles, BBQ sauce, and all the beans you can stomach. The food here is great, but I was very disappointed by the chicken, which was tasty, but overcooked. It dried out after a few minutes. The sides were delicious. I got a baked potato, which wasn't any thing special. However the potato salad and coleslaw were. Both possessed a bit of a bite that I found pleasing. I also believe that the coleslaw was the best I ever had. Price wise, it was a bit steep. It cost over 17 dollars, and I had a dry entree. But still, it was a very unique experience. Everything else was great.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the worst places I've ever eaten at, the bbq didn't taste like bbq and had a small of something other than bbq, beans were like pinto beans and potato salad was from the one from Sam's club. I will not be returning. Only good thing about this place was the decor.

Sara D.

Yelp
We stopped here after heading to Midland for the eclipse. We're Okies but know our way around Texas barbecue. We had major sticker shock at the price. It was $105 for three of us. It was tough because the price per pound was not really posted anywhere that we could see. I should have cued off the man in front of us who was getting 1 rib and half a piece of brisket. Our brisket was dry and half of it was fat. Ribs were pretty good. We were so shocked by the price of the meat, we didn't even get much more--just a coleslaw. We kind of couldn't enjoy our meal due to the shock of it. For $100+, I was expecting the best bbq I've ever had and it sure wasn't.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Maybe has slipped a little, dry sometimes so go early. Still great atmosphere and service is very good.

Mack L.

Yelp
Very disappointed! Other than being informed that we were to choose our meat from the pit and all meats were $18.95 per pound, we received no instruction on the "serve yourself" process or what condiments were included. Together, we tried brisket, pork ribs, and jalapeño sausage. The ribs were ok, the sausage was a glorified weenie, and while the brisket had a very nice smoke ring, it was tough and had little flavor. As mentioned, we did not receive instructions to know that regular pinto beans were available, so we both chose the "brisket beans". I don't know what they cost, but mine went directly into the trash. If not for the regular pinto beans in the condiment selection, I would have had to drive around the corner for a burger. An all around $50.00 disappointment.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
Great decor, great smell, ribs were very good, the brisket was average. We kind of felt like we got suckered. My friend and I arrived sometime after 8pm and as we entered a gentleman asked if it was our first time. We told him that indeed it was, and he took us and explained the process of getting your food. He also said, and this is a direct quote, "we're about to close so y'all go ahead and get all you want". We took this to mean we were getting some sort of discount and tried a few different items. I was shocked when my total for brisket and ribs was $26, my friend's plate was $30. That kind of put a bad spin on the evening. We probably won't return as it is way overpriced in my opinion. The attached picture is my actual plate.
google avatar

Mariella R.

Yelp
Food was amazing! We got the brisket, pulled beef, hot links, sausage, & potato salad + coleslaw. I'm from California so I haven't tried many BBQ places but WOW I thought the food was great! It was just a little a bit too smoky for MY taste but my bf & brother in law loved the smokiness. I will definitely return if I'm ever in the area
google avatar

Lynda M.

Yelp
All I can say is WOWZERS!!! Although I don't make the drive from Texas to California very often, but when I do I plan my time so I can stop at KD bbq. I suggest the sliced brisket and peach cobbler. Your tummy will thank you. I promise !!!

Peyton J.

Yelp
This place was amazing, the food was great, the service was even better (they let me get a lil extra brisket and it was amazing), and the whole vibe really sold the BBQ feel and mood to me. 5 stars!

Jeff O.

Yelp
The brisket was good. Service was top notch. Placed a large order to go just after they opened. Everyone pitched in to help. Seven happy customers!
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
In the Midland area for work. We're from Ohio & Pa and wanted some good bbq. KD's was recommended to us and i'm glad we tried. First, it smelled amazing just pulling in the parking lot. I got ribs, brisket, and jalapeno/cheddar sausage. Everything was great. Sides were good as well, but the star of the show was the brisket. Pull apart, melt in your mouth. Great service, and very friendly staff. I'll definitely be stopping back any time i'm back in Midland.

Jamie S.

Yelp
Great food and service. The BBQ was the best we had anywhere and they had many options to choose from including desserts.

Judy K.

Yelp
Expensive. 20.50 a pound for meat. Peach cobbler was bad. Hardly any peaches. Potato salad lots of vinegar. Would not come again
google avatar

Ray V.

Yelp
Great BBQ, Great atmosphere! When you walk in be sure to not be intimidated by the selection of meats right at your fingertips! Don't be afraid to get as much or as little as you want. There are no plates here you just get charged by the pound so you get the meats you want. The peach cobbler is perfect and the sweet tea is too! Enjoy the endless amount of Knick knacks decorations! Great place to get a full belly and converse with friends and family!
google avatar

Dan R.

Yelp
Holy shit y'all!!!! Saw the billboard said truck parking so I stopped. One word comes to mind....AMAZING!!! The brisket was sooooo good and the hot sausage equally great. So happy I found this place as I travel past here every couple weeks. I will make this a regular stop from now on. Next time I will risk the health issues and have sweet tea with my meal, unsweetened just didn't do it for such good bbq. I just can't believe the lunch I just had. WOW!!!!

Kathy B.

Yelp
Being in the Midland area stop at your establishment to eat and what a mistake. Not even 30 minutes, I was having to pull over and throw up my guts!!! Called your business and supposedly spoke to the person in charged and they really didn't care I got sick on their food. " oh you can't prove it was our food" then asked for a refund. " oh we don't do that" won't ever go back!!!

Richard H.

Yelp
Stopped in Saturday afternoon with the wife. Saw the reviews about pricing but wasn't disappointed. I could tell the brisket was cooked the old fashioned way and the Ribs were right on point. The gentleman at the pit recommended the sweet ribs and glad he did. The BBQ beans and brisket at the front counter were a perfect fit also. I don't mind the price when they spend all that time doin the smokin. Something else that was unusual suring these times was the young lady came by and refilled our drinks 2 different times. Great job KDs crew.
google avatar

Roger G.

Yelp
This was highly recommended but I left disappointed. The atmosphere was excellent, much like many great bbq joints I've been in. The food was another story. I'll start with the sausage, because that was the only item that was good, and it was really good. The brisket was dry and had little flavor. The ribs were mostly fat. The cole slaw and potato salad were average. There were plenty of free pickles though, which came in handy because everything else was really expensive. It may have just been an off day because no one in our party of six really enjoyed the meal.
google avatar

J H.

Yelp
Let's start with the PROS: The place has a fun "Texas" atmosphere and friendly service. There are some good things. The pork ribs, both candied and regular are very good. The coleslaw is delicious and the peach cobbler is pretty good. Now for the CONS: The brisket is dry, and flavorless. One of the worst I've ever had. (I hate to have to say that but it's true). The sausage mix was cold and just plain bad in every way. It's hard to justify the price. We got enough food for 2-3 people and it was $66. If it was amazing BBQ I would not think twice about the price but this just was not amazing BBQ.
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
BBQ sauce was awful, the set up was weird we went in for takeout they took us back to the kitchen and let us pick our meat buffet style and the sides were in crockpots. Only good thing was the meat
google avatar

Kathy P.

Yelp
We are only in Midland for one night and thought we'd try some famous Texas BBQ! We found KD's on Yelp and decided to give it a go! We were honestly kind of lost walking in the door but I guess we looked lost so they jumped in and walked us through the process. I must say the meat was super delicious even without the yummy sauce. The cobbler was also amazingly delicious and might be worth another drive to Midland!! Fun TX decor, friendly staff and mouthwatering food - a recipe for success!!

Anela L.

Yelp
I hate to ever bash a company but i also hate for people to waste money, I've never had such dry and flavorless bbq in my life. $140 for three people just not finish anything.
google avatar

Yelp
A local brought us here being new from out of town.. Very interesting set up, you get your meat right when you walk in the door.christmas. In a tray and piece of paper, walk over, they measure it put a price on your paper, you walk down her your sides then pay, as you're walking through they ask you what you want to drink... Then the condiments are in the center. I like the concept. Great food!
