Best Dallas Burger Restaurants | Eater Dallas

"Does Keller’s serve the best burgers in town? Absolutely not. It does, however, offer the quintessential drive-in burger experience in town. It’s a requisite experience to pull up, place your order with a carhop who might call you “sweetheart,” have a greasy bag delivered straight to your car, and enjoy it right then and there (driving and eating is a road hazard, and Dallas drivers are already terrifying). If you haven’t enjoyed one of these poppy seed bun burgers under the glow of the neon Keller’s sign on Northwest Highway (the best of its locations), then you’re not truly a Dallasite yet. Know before you go: The food here is cheap, meaning all the burgers are under $5, and so are the ingredients. You’re doing it for the experience." - Courtney E. Smith

The 11 Best Dallas Drive-Thru Restaurants | Eater Dallas

"Technically a drive-in and not a drive-thru, Keller’s has been serving up one of Dallas’s most beloved burgers since 1950. Pull up, flash your headlights, and prepare to experience burger bliss on a poppyseed bun. Definitely don’t forget to add a side of super-crunchy tots." - Amy McCarthy

This has been on my must try burger place in DFW. Got a chance on Thursday afternoon. I got there and was not sure on the procedure. One of the wait staff walked by and I told her this is my first time and how do I order my food. She said that she will be taking my order. Ordered Cheese burger with Jalapeños and fries. When the food was ready she got it to the car and took my CC for payment and came back with receipt. Food: Burger was delicious with mustard, jalapeño’s and onions. Fries were on the oily side. All in all a good experience and one burger place off the list.

Google
Great nostalgia! This is a staple here in Dallas. The burgers are pretty darn good. The fries are good. Today was a bit of an exception. The service was OK and the food was OK. When I have been to this location in the past multiple times, the food has been good and Service has been good as well. I give this location of five on the atmosphere scale because of the history and there are truly no other places like it . This place is one of a kind in this modern world with drive-through or corporate owned wannabe pull up burger joints ….. this one stands alone. I would recommend you stop by. It’s also good people watching.

Google
Saw a YouTube video review of this place this morning and drove there to try it (1 hour away). Excellent food and service. Definitely will be back. The building has some "PATINA" but who cares, it just adds to the experience. When I was a kid, places like this always had the best burgers.

Santiago

Google
Ordered a burger and chili fries. Use to come here all the time back in the day. I remember the food being better, to be honest. The burger was ok, nothing wrong with it. Lacked a little seasoning. The chili fries were just bad. The service was very good. The place is old and it shows, has a charm to it.

Google
I recently visited this hamburger shack on a trip to the Dallas area. It was a drive-in spot with a rustic, old-school feel. The service was quick and the food was as expected. The burger was simple but still tasted good. The fries and tater tots were average. The price of everything was cheap enough to give this a try instead of the other fast food chains. Go for nostalgia, not necessarily the quality of food.

Google
Total dive place and I loved it. I mean, what’s not to love in a business this run down that puts out some of the tastiest food for such a low price? The #5 Special burger and onion rings were both perfectly cooked, and sent me on down the road happy. I made the detour in my trip plans to try this place and it did not disappoint.

Google
This classic Dallas burger joint offers quick, friendly service and delicious burgers at a great price. After parking under the canopy, the car hop walks out and takes your order, then returns with drinks and amount owed. If you pay by credit/ debit they do need to know tip percentage, if giving one. It’s just an old payment system. Then food arrives shortly thereafter. They easily accommodated a Bun Free Order, where the cook subs the bun for iceburg lettuce, special sauce on the side. #5 is the way! The onion rings and poppy seed buns are customer favorites as well as my husband’s. It's a local institution with a history as rich as its burgers.

Google
Keller's was brought to my attention by a review on a local newspaper. We got #5 and it was good. The price was above what was described on the review. I was craving for a milkshake but they don't have it on the menu. The waitress was friendly and promptly. The venue/facilites need mainteniance. The restroom looks old, but it was clean.

Yelp
Nice little spot to stop and get an Affordable Burger that does the job! This burger joint packs some flavor! Fast and Simple service! Wait in your car and they take your order :) The kind man/fella who is running the orders was very helpful and quick to take my order. Props man! Keep working hard. -Great customer service. 10/10 The burger itself is not gigantic but the Double did me justice! The meat was cooked well, held together real nice! Not a sloppy sandwich. Great burger , i can see why people like this place. The Taste and My Overall Score is a solid 7/10 ‼ I cant complain too much because its a great price for some hot good food. It wouldnt make sense to ask for a bigger burger so what can i say except Thank You Kellers for the great meal! I Also must say yall got some good fries here! 10/10 No complaints about the taters That (State Fair Brand) Corn Dog was exceptionally tasty. Nice hot fluffy bite and reminded me of ferris wheels and funnel cakes 10/10 -Thank You Again, Keller's Drive-In -Santangelo Balli Gonzales *Visiting from Houston*

Yelp
Every single car around me had their ordered taken and had driven off and no one even bothered to look my way. When I was the only one on the lot, two female employees stood on the lot talking and still ignored me. FINALLY, after 17 minutes, when I made eye contact and waved, someone came over to help me. I would really hate to think it was because I was the only black person on the parking lot.
google avatar

Yelp
An old-school drive-in where the attendant will come up to your car and take your order. They got my order wrong, and the burger itself was nothing special. I personally thought it was underseasoned and a bit rubbery. The tater tots were crunchy and yummy. Note: They now will take credit cards.

Yelp
SAY IT ISN'T SO!! Drove by yesterday and NO vehicles and all signage gone??? Guessing when Biden's Build Back Better inflation hit them and they went from $4 to $6+ dollar burgers, others besides me just quit buying?? Very sad if true! Will be by there next week and see if any change in status. Another piece of history comes to an end!

Yelp
I want to like this place, with the history and all. Plus the lil old ladies serving cars are super sweet. But the place looks more run down than nostalgic. Burgers here are just okay -- beef has little flavor or seasoning, patty well-done and a bit too tough. Poppy seeds were a nice touch on the bun, but I thought it was too big and bready and got in the way some. Fries came barely warm. It is nice having a classic drive-in still operating. I gave them an extra star for great service and their old school menu prices. But I'm not sure it was good enough to bring me back.

Yelp
Ok - this place is actually so dank. I ate my food so fast i couldn't even take a picture of the burger so enjoy a photo of the crispy cronchy onion rings. The guy taking our order was so nice and came out to my car as soon as i pulled up. We also ordered modelo's which i feel like i can't post on here bc of legal reasons? anyways the burger was fire and the atmosphere was a little sketchy but soooo worth it. 9/10!
google avatar

Mayra V.

Yelp
First time at this location. Burgers are good and employees are nice. My kids enjoyed the drive-in experience--They take the order at your car and bring your food out.
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
Saw reviews for this burger joint and decided to give it a try. They do put out a very good burger with their very limited menu. Dining in your car or to go.
google avatar

Darren N.

Yelp
First off they come to your car no need to get out of your vehicle. I got the #5 special. Fries and drinks are sold separately. Total came out to like 9.35 for a double meat burger with fries and drink. I tipped the waitress as well. But back to the food. The burger was small as hell but it was ok. The fries were trash. They tasted cheap. Like paper and oil. I don't think I'll come back. I pass this place every time I'm in the area for work and never thought to stop until I seen it on a Dallas food page. And they really gassed the place up calling it a hidden gem lmfao. I was tricked. But anyways. I've had better burgers. I'm not saying don't go. Just don't expect to wowed.
google avatar

Kay M.

Yelp
I saw this place on IG and figured I would try it out. It was just ok. I expected the meat to at least be more than lukewarm. Also my order was wrong, but I didn't complain.
google avatar

Aqsa T.

Yelp
You're not going to this location for any aesthetic. The blonde cute waitress was incredibly sweet with my awkward order. She was patient with us and brought out our food in a timely matter, they were even able to break a $100 for us. The location is a little bit off the grid, but if I were to frequent that area I would visit that location often. The burgers have the right amount of grease to keep the wrapping paper drenched but not them bag itself, a good middle. The burgers and big yet compact enough to easily eat in your car. The fries were incredible, they were golden and crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. You could taste that they were fresh, no ridiculous amount of salt. The grilled cheese was okay, this one wasn't too greasy but did have a soggy bottom. It almost reminded me of a packed school lunch grilled cheese but not in a bad way. This place is definitely worth stopping at.

Yelp
Excellent as always. Haven't been to a Keller's in 5 years and the food was just as good as I remember. If you come at lunch, be patient, they are very busy. Drive-in vibes have not changed and they are still super pleasant and friendly serving staff. Strong recommend even after all these years
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
I came for the burger and it was good. I pulled in about 8:20 PM , 3 or 4 minutes the carhop took my order, maybe 5-6 minutes my food was brought to me. A #5 which is a double cheeseburger, onion rings & and a root beer for $8. Tasty burger. Old building but who cares? Food quality trumps fancy surroundings any day.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
It wasn't the Keller's I remember back in the 80's. The place looks run down, the food was meh, but the service was great. Our car hop was very friendly

Amy S.

Yelp
Still the best burgers anywhere! Keller' has a fresh new coat of paint and that are now taking credit and debit cards. They have increased the prices just a bit yet so have most places. We got three burgers, French fries, tater tots, 2 pink lemonades, and a beer and the price came to $23. I don't know anywhere that could even come close to being that price and there is no where that can beat the quality. We have decided we need to make this a regular date location and often.

Nathan C.

Yelp
Quick service. Friendly staff. Authentic drive in experience. Food was hot and fresh. Amazing flavor. Would definitely recommend trying once. Less than 10$ for a double bacon cheeseburger and fries
google avatar

Loops S.

Yelp
Yes this is the place to eat a hamburger. The ladies are great. They come out to your car and even helped us by telling us which combo was actually cheaper if you bought it as a kid's basket. It's the real deal here with their burgers and fries. It is t in the greatest neighborhood but that didn't bother me. Love it!
google avatar

Humberto V.

Yelp
Haven't found a dive any worst then this burger joint in all of northwest Dallas. Ordered a burger only to regret it. Couldn't decide should I throw it away or give it to my dog. Roach haven 2.0

Dinkle P.

Yelp
Keller's got that gas pack. Love me some poppy seed buns and pink lemonade. Corn dog is cray cray too!

Taye W.

Yelp
the food is very good. FYI me and my family like taking the 1979 Chevy. service is great
google avatar

Claud S.

Yelp
Good burger. Hit the spot after a hangover. Fountain coke is the best. Most likely come back.

Da P.

Yelp
Brings back memories of ole school burgers. They are great! The place is laid back and you can order beer! Food is brought to your car like and the tray is placed on your window like Sonic Drive Inn used to do in the old days.
google avatar

Bre B.

Yelp
Another great Keller's experience! We normally go to the North Central Expressway Keller's but this time we decided to visit the Harry Hines location. I would have to say I've still ate the best burger in Dallas and it is still an old-fashioned Time Capsule. You literally feel like you have went back in time. There are no electric speaker boxes to order through, no debit cards or credit cards accepted, and just great food for a great price! The food is Super Fresh and I believe it is meant for you to enjoy in your car so it is definitely the full CarHop experience.
google avatar

Nova G.

Yelp
I was so disappointed. I visited Kellers on Harry Hines in Dallas today, 2/19/22. It took a while for the carhop to come take my order. She was an older lady and was nice but obviously stressed. I ordered a cheeseburger and tater tots. Then it took forever for her to bring the food. She brought me a Jr hamburger (just meat, bun and ketchup) and tots. I told her the problem. She took it back to correct it and brought me back what looked like the right size burger. I didn't check thoroughly TRUSTING that they had just corrected their mistake. I got home and later found out that they gave me the same Jr patty but dressed it up with the large cheeseburger bun and fixings. Needless to say, I won't be back. Ridiculous!
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Limited menu, but what they make, they make well. Homestyle burgers, cheap AF, even post Covid, you get prices from the early 2000's! The service is no better or worse than precovid as well. Can't get a better burger for under $5.
google avatar

Matt F.

Yelp
One of the best burgers in Dallas. Some will say the best and won't get an argument out of me. My family has been coming here forever. Bang for buck is off the charts. Don't judge it by the outside as it looks like a dump! Bring cash as that is the only payment they accept. Come check it out!
google avatar

Brandy S.

Yelp
I LOVE trying new burger places and this place has been on my list for a while now but I try to limit my trips into Dallas. The hubs agreed to make the trip on Sunday since it was beautiful outside. It's very easy to get too and is most definitely a dive burger shop. There are several parking stops where you wait until a carhop comes to take your order. It's not like Sonic as there are no intercoms. It took a few minutes for someone to come take our order, which was fine since we had never been there and had the chance to look at the menu. We both ordered the #5 Special and added grilled onions. Hubs got onion rings and I got the tots w/cheese. Our food was out in no time, as they weren't very busy. I have to say, these burgers did NOT disappoint! First of all, they are larger than they look in pictures, next time I will just order a single because I was not able to finish mine. They were very messy but so delicious! The onion rings were very good and had a slight sweetness to the batter. Tots were good (how can you mess up tots?!) and covered with an American cheese slice. The hubs has no complaints either. All in all, I would say Keller's lived up to my expectations and I will definitely come back. Also, I've read reviews that it's cash only, but they do take debit cards, I think they prefer cash though.

Yelp
It's a hike from Southlake but definitely worth the drive. Heard about this place on Thrillest and decided to give it a try. We pulled up and weren't 100% how to order but a helpful lady with a pleasant demeanor walked over and let us know that A. She'd be taking care of us and B. That it's cash only. Not a big deal - She told me where the two closest ATM's were and we told her we'd be back. (So bring cash. ATM is semi sketch) Parked again, our waitress, Fran, came back to the truck and greeted us. She told us a little history of the locations and their background - we ordered her recommendations which was a great decision. When the food came out, Fran said the total was $13.25. Mind blown... I gave her a $20 and told her to keep it. Hell, McDonalds costs what... $10 a person? We absolutely got our moneys worth! In summary, this is a great little find. Bring cash. The food makes Jake's and In-and-Out taste like reheated leftovers. :) A+++. Will come again.
google avatar

Aleiah R.

Yelp
We were looking for a drive in burger place and this one really stood out to us. You park your vehicle and they come out to you to take your order. The sesame buns they use is probably the best ones I ever had, maybe even better than the normal burger bun. The people there are down to earth and very family oriented. It's not located in the best location and their service is not top tier, but it's not something you would expect from ordering here. The burgers do not disappoint and the food comes out hot. On top of that, it's great quality food for cheap. We spent $13 for 2 combo meals. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Amiee B.

Yelp
Drive-in burger place, with alcohol like a cold beer with a delicious burger is a great spot! Prices are the best. Burgers are the tasty. Sitting in your car is nice. & Service is fast and friendly.
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
So satisfying!!!! If you are looking for fancy keep looking... if your looking for classic old school delicious drive up diner this is the place! For less than 20 bucks you can score 2 delicious #5's some fries and onion rings and 2 beer. It's like the 50's never left. The girl that came to our car to take our order was super nice, and the food came out quick. Burgers are delicious with tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and the bun... yummy. Hands down best fast food burger I've ever had... In & Out has NOTHING on this place. Onion rings were also so so good! If ya happen to be near by highly suggest you check out Keller
google avatar

Todd B.

Yelp
Ok. It's great. If you dont like this place then you dont like American food. Onion rings are the real deal. Shakes are outstanding. My third time here and my son and I will keep coming back. Love both servers that I have encountered. Glad to have found this place. It fills a void that I had Michigan.
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
I am disappointed, after years of seeing how hyped up this place was I've always wanted to come here and try a new burger place Because... it's pretty rare finding a good burger spot am I right?? Besides In-N-Out or any other burger place but anyways I had came here with my boyfriend and first of all they didn't even have fries and I was like what... Who eats a burger without fries! And yeah the place may not look all fancy and boujee , but I mean it wasn't the worst burger i had , also the wait time wasn't at its finest I was just upset they didn't have fries the only thing that I enjoyed was the lemonade and it made me and my boyfriend very gassy for some reason and he has stomach cramps still and he says that fucked him up & honestly I Wouldn't want to come back here if I know it's going to have my stomach acting up
google avatar

Piper M.

Yelp
What an experience. We met Casey the chef, who was the sweetest, warmest down to earth lady, ever. Made us feel at home and loved our dog, too. Told us there's a "puppy patty" with no bun, that came cut up. (Our doggy loved it!) Our server Fran was the bomb. She never rushed us and was so accommodating, we didn't want to leave our new friends at Keller's. She also was super sweet to our pup and brought her water. The hamburgers were the best I'd had in a long time. Double cheeseburger with the trimmings and grilled onions, it was exceptional, as were the fries. A flavor explosion with all-quality ingredients with prices so low, that don't seem real.
google avatar

Sarah Hope F.

Yelp
Get in here and support this institution before it's gone! Still a great burger and ice cold beer. Yum Yum

P K.

Yelp
So I want to admit something, I almost didn't come to this location after seeing all of the other reviewers' concerns about safety. It wasn't until I noticed a theme in WHY people felt unsafe here that I decided to come anyways. I was here on a Friday night and there were no gangs, handguns, or anything to be concerned about. There was just a bunch of hispanic guys that appeared to be gathering for beers after work, which Keller's does sell. The whole back of the lot was full of people drinking beer, but it wasn't in the least bit concerning. The environment might be unsettling for those who aren't used to it, but your safety isn't in the least bit an issue here. Also worth noting that this location is definitely a bit run down in comparison to their other NW Highway location, but I don't need renovations to enjoy a good meal in my car. If I remember correctly the original Keller's location closed back in 2000, and this location has been around longer than the NW Highway location. So set your comforts aside and just eat a dang burger here already. Everything is incredibly cheap, it all tastes amazing, and the service was friendly and quick. What's better than that? Even their onion rings are great, and I typically despise wet battered rings. The chili here is absolutely addictive. I'm a fiend for chili cheese fries and I could easily gobble up a bucket of theirs. It is worth noting that they use a slice of cheese, not shredded cheese. To each their own. The burger though. It was fresh and satisfying. So hearty, yet light? For clarification, beef in general is typically dense and greasy for me. It can easily lag me down, but this burger didn't. I was able to stay up well past midnight for once, which is nearly impossible nowadays especially after a meal like this. Their chocolate shake is also good, but pretty on par with most places. Appears to be made with soft serve ice cream. Still cheap though, so that's a win in itself. Overall you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't at least swing by for a meal. This place is a gem in itself, just maybe not the kind you're used to.

Yelp
IM WRITING THIS REVIEW TO NOTIFY MANAGEMENT OF A COMPLAINT. If someone is pumping bass so loud that it shakes other people's cars, please ask them to leave or to stop. We asked a waitress to ask them to turn it down, and she came back with, "that's what they do here. They play their own music." Yeah. That's cool. The person next to us was playing music that I wasn't a fan of, but it didn't shake my car and it was at a volume that was tolerable. Simply putting up signs to be respectful of other customers isn't a bad idea. Having a group of people doors wide open while they tailgate with obnoxious throbbing music is not okay. With that being said. Great food. I've loved it my entire life. Great prices. Best around. Nice staff. We got checked up on a considerable amount of times. Easy parking. Usually not an issue in Dallas, but we don't have parking lots in LA. Everything was ready in a timely manner and the order was correct.

Yvonne C.

Yelp
This burger was AWFUL I only received 18 fries instead of the promised 22. The fries were not seasoned. I recommend Goff's burgers. There's is wide selection of beer at this location but the burger itself was not that great. We were excited to try this burger after many great reviews but it was NOT what we expected.
google avatar

Jamie R.

Yelp
FRAN IS THE BEST LADY OUT THERE!!! #5 is my go to with the special sauce. Onion rings are always fried to perfection. Cheese burgers are always great as well as the ice cold beer.

Robert M.

Yelp
Great little drive in burger. This location is a little run down, but the food it top notch. One of the better burgers in DFW.

Chris H.

Yelp
FRAN is AWESOME!!! Keller's is a Dallas institution. Great burgers, great fries, GREAT service.
google avatar

Kelsey B.

Yelp
Good burgers y'all. Of course it looks sketchy -- it's a DIVE. Our wait for burgers was maybe 10-15 mins since they are made to order. Burgers weren't too greasy. Chili cheese burger didn't have a ton of chili (good thing so it wasn't all over the place). Add bacon or jalapeños or both! Enjoy a cold beer if you'd like. They also have corn dogs and chili cheese dogs. Our teen enjoyed the cheese tots. You get lots of napkins. If you want to be overly prepared, take a kitchen towel for your lap. Our car hop/runner, Cindy, was nice...even coming back to check on us while we were eating. Be sure to take cash and tip your car hop/runner.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Great experience! The service was fast, the food is incredible, and you can't beat the price! Two burgers, fries, tater tots, and two drinks for $10. Our waitress/car hop, Fran, was so kind and made great recommendations on the menu. We will definitely be coming back soon!

Dave R.

Yelp
Ordered #5's, fries, tots and onion rings. Surprisingly, burgers were below average - not flavorful and a bit chewy. Fries and tots were good. Onion rings were ok, maybe a little too much batter. Why 1 star? Because 10 months into a pandemic, if you don't wear a mask when taking my order at a distance of 2 feet from my open car window and deliver the food in the same way, you don't deserve better.
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
Yallllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!! This place is soooooo good! I don't know how to explain it. Why it took me so long to discover this place???!! Whyyyyyy???? My family went. When you drive in you are supposed to park and they will come out and get you going. That food is fresh fresh. Take cash! The food is cheap too. Like really cheap. It's an old building so prepare for that but the good is worthy of my funds. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
A great establishment with classic vibes. One of the best Cheap Eats in DFW. I could eat there weekly if I could.
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
This drive up has the best burgers! Fran took great care of us and explained the menu to our friends who hadn't been here before. The no. 5 is a must with fries and a beer.
google avatar

Claudia S.

Yelp
2nd time at a Keller's, I went to the one by north park mall and absolutely loved it. I came here and it is set up the same way just a smaller location on a very different part of town, (Harry Hines). The services was very good. The burgers were good just cooked a little more than what I remember having at the other location. I don't know if they make all their burgers the same but I suggest asking if you can have it your way, I either get medium well or medium rare.
google avatar

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
Still amazing Burgers after all these years, and incredible prices! My favorite is the classic number 5, and I add a patty for $0.70 to make it a triple! Side of tots for the win!
google avatar

Yelp
Appreciate the nostalgic feel of this place, especially during Covid when dining in your car is a safe haven. The burgers (#8) were tasty but lacked any char. The patties almost looked like they were steamed and not griddled. Any amount of chat would have been fantastic. I can see how this would be an outstanding burger if more attention to detail was paid. I get it's a pandemic and we should cut places some slack but conversely, should restaurants in general be trying harder to ensure they survive rather than putting out subpar food? At the end of the day, it's a $3 burger and was still good. Fries were delicious and perfectly cooked.
