Where to Enjoy a Glass of Chardonnay This Summer in the Tampa Area | Eater

"If you’re headed north for a little summertime manatee fun, make a point to stop into Kelly’s Half Shell after. The Irish pub is one of Crystal River’s best places for fresh seafood, with a menu of creative oyster dishes you’ve likely never tried. Order up half a dozen of Kelly’s Oysters: James River Oysters with chili mignonette, bacon, green onions, truffles, Parmesan, and blue cheese. Of course, if you’re having oysters, white wine is a must, and Kelly’s has plenty of Harken Chardonnay on hand." - Matthew Meltzer

Google
Finally made it here to give Kelly's Half Shell a try and we are so glad we did. We went the smoke salmon fish dip, 6 raw oysters, and since we were at an Irish Pub, the wife went with Shepherd's pie and I went with the classic Fish & Chips. Everything was absolutely delicious and Adam was great all around. If you order the Shepherd's pie, it is cooked to order, so it will be about 20-25 minutes, but well worth it. Had a few specialty drinks to top it all off with. You WILL be seeing us again.

Google
What a great find. Stopped in on my way up to Tallahassee and had dinner at the bar. Adam, the bartender, was friendly and attentive. I had two different types of oysters, some lobster bisque, and homemade key lime pie. Everything was delicious. I would definitely come back!

Google
It looks like a pub. It feels like a pub. But the pub food has a 5 Star Restaurant twist. I had the Kelly's Oysters which have Parmesan cheeese, bacon and chives, and a cup of Lobster Bisque. The Kelly's Oysters were a "Wow" moment on the first taste. Sweet, tender and juicy with just enough heat to wake up your taste buds. The Lobster Bisque had a generous spoonful of real lobster meat garnish and a satisfying thickness that spread the savory flavor with every bite. My husband had the Spicy Garlic and Parmesan Chicken Tenders. The spice was mild but these tenders were large and juicy. And lets not forget the huge menu of draft and bottle beer, cocktails and top shelf alcohol. If you're in the Crystal River area, you need to stop in. Our waitress Mikayla will make you feel at home.

Google
Peel and eat shrimp were delicious. Nice bay seasoning and their drawn butter and cocktail sauce were very good. The reuben eggrolls were a different spin on a sandwich. The reuben filling was very good. Saurkraut was not store bought and had a perfect flavor that complimented the meat. Service was good, and everyone was extremely friendly and helpful.

Google
Overall a good experience. Guinness, onion rings, burger, and fish were all really good. When we walked in there was a strange smell. Couldn’t tell what it was but the water was undrinkable and tasted like the place smelled. Damp/musty? Hard to say what it was, just very off putting. But the food and drink were good so still was a good visit.

Google
**** 10 months later and Kelly's only gets better and better! Amber is the BEST Bartender! Ask for her. **** Wow what an absolute gem!! We will definitely be back! And omgoodness GUINNESS!! Everything is made fresh in house! Lobster bisque w/ Cuban bread. Guiness clams w/ Cuban bread. And of course Guiness!!! Champagne raw oysters

Google
Stopped in for lunch and a quick drink. It was nice to find a bartender who can make a long Island without making you cringe or being able to drink it before she makes it to the end of the bar. Thanks Mrs Amber!! I was really craving a shepherds pie and that was the real reason for stopping in. Momma always said to clean your plate and I had 0 problems finishing lunch.

Google
I’ve been wanting to go here for a while since we just live down the road and the reviews are great, but my boyfriend doesn’t like to go to pubs/bars. I managed to convince him that this isn’t your typical pub/bar. And since we basically lost the entire contents of our home in Helene and they were one of the only places open in the area, it was an easy sell. From the moment we entered, the staff was so welcoming, we knew good things were going to come. We have dined there twice in the last ten days and have tried the wedge salad, the fish and chips and the shepherds pie. Everything was fresh and tasted wonderful. The combination of the blue cheese dressing with a drizzle of balsamic reduction on the wedge salad is the bomb, and we can’t wait to try it with chicken or shrimp. I highly recommend stopping in for some soul soothing food, libations, and friendly faces.

Yelp
Stopped in for a snack mid day and the place was packed. My first time there. Plenty of parking as it's in a strip mall. Business first. The restrooms are clean and well maintained. When I was seated I got my silverware and I have to tell you that it was clean and polished like I very rarely see anymore in a restaurant. We just wanted a snack and the menu made the choice difficult. Lots of small shareable items. We settled on the lobster fries and all I can say is wow. The fries were perfect and topping them with a lobster dressing is incredible. I'm really not sure what to call it but it had chunks of lobster in a sauce that was just delicious. And generous portions too. The menu had lots of interesting things on it and we will certainly be back to try several of them. My wife and I are not drinkers but I must say that the bar had more liquor bottles on the wall than I have ever seen anywhere before. I'm sure they could make you any drink you could think of. Worth a trip from anywhere! And our waiter Keenan, was very good at his job. He told us that he had been working there for 4 years and he seemed to enjoy what he was doing. He made us feel at home.

Yelp
Love this place!! We come here every time we visit Hernando FL. We love their lobster fries and dry rub chicken wings. Service is always excellent! The casual ambiance is perfect for us to come in at any time of the day. We made a stop for lunch on Valentine's Day and restaurant was giving out roses to ladies. That's really sweet.

Rob D.

Yelp
I was a little worried about this choice as we walked in, but I was soon convinced all was well. Service was excellent and the food was great! We had the Salmon dip, lobster bisque, garlic wings and lobster roll. Nothing short of amazing ! Flavorful, fresh and delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing find. Both the food and service were top notch. I enjoyed the creativity of the menu. I had the Ruben egg roll and my husband had the steak sandwich. Each dish was delicious and perfectly cooked. The egg roll was crispy and full corned beef. My husband's sandwich was tender. We will be back.

Keven P.

Yelp
For those who can't decide...everything we had was delicious! We had lobster fries, wedge salad, chicken wings, and Rueben Eggrolls! The service was amazing..Kelly, no relation to Kelly's, was fabulous. She was energetic with a great smile and said she loved her job- it showed! A definite place to eat if you are in the area!

Yelp
The food here just gets better and better. The service is excellent Karrie our waitress was awesome. It's always quiet and comfortable. We highly recommend Kellys just look at the picture

Yelp
Seafood at a pub?! Kelly's has to be one of the best places in town to eat. Big portions, nice waitstaff, fresh seafood - all while being in an IRISH PUB?! Very glad we stumbled in. We tried about every app we cold, and the garlic fried shrimp & the Ruben egg rolls (with fresh horseradish like our wonderful waitress suggested) were the standout. They seem to have a good happy hour but we didn't get there quite early enough. Others got the Kelly burger (very big, pretty good), the ahi tuna (good fish overall but the toppings were a bit much) and the charbroiled oysters (big and very good!). Waitress kept our drinks full which was great after a long day out on the water, we NEEDED water. Good spot!
google avatar

Casey M.

Yelp
Great place! servers were excellent, attentive, and friendly. Food was great . Place was clean, cozy, with a good selection of Irish favorites. The Guinness was poured proper. The corned beef was tender. Try the Irish egg rolls. A bit strange but a pleasant surprise. I will be coming a regular. See you there.

Yelp
Passing by while returning from the Hurricane Milton evacuation, I stopped in for lunch. I had the fish and chips, which was very good. The fish filet was huge and breaded just right. The service was excellent and the prices were fair. Like the Terminator, I'll be back.

Lauren D.

Yelp
Yes it's a bar but the food is absolutely insane good. The lobster fries are the best!
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
Average brownie 5/10, but amazing lobster bisque soup! I would come back to try different items.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurat and a review of Yelp decided to have lunch here. Kelly's is located in strip mall with limited seating inside. When I arrived it was "seat yourself" and the only option was a 6 person bar height wood table which was in the middle of the restaurant and you can easily smell any cigarette smoke coming from the front entrance of the restaurant - very off putting. Serive was slow and left me wondering why it took so long to order and have drinks ( a soda & waters) served. Items ordered - 1/2 dozen raw Oysters on a half shell, the Oysters were of good size with enough of the "liquor" still in the shell however upon eating my last Oyster a good size worm emerged from the Oyster. I brought this to the attention of another server since I couldnt locate my server. The Oysters were removed and when our server came by I mentioned the worm to her and she advised that she is not surprised there was a worm since the Oyster came from the ocean. I have eaten plenty of raw Oyster from all over East to West Coast and have never had a worm or any other creature come out. The Oyster's were removed from our tab. Lobster Fries with Chili Garlic Aioli sauce on the side. The Lobster Fries were served in cast iron skillet. Fries were crispy and covered in melted cheese with bits of Lobster. The Lobster Roll Maine style was also served in a cast iron skillet with fries under the roll. The Lobster Roll lacked flavor and needed more Old Bay Seasoning. Guinness Clams tasted mostley of the Guinness and overpowered the clam taste. The Clams were suppose to be served with Cuban Bread however it was not served with the clams, our server stated they were making fresh one but she forgot to bring it out and the bread was finally served after we were finished eating. Unfortunately I won't be returning

Yelp
We went here to try the oysters and the Rubin egg rolls . My husband tried the shepherds pie. The service was very good and the food was great. We loved the egg rolls and The oysters were great. Everyone should try this place. Very friendly environment and clean. We will come back!!!!!

Yelp
I don't know where to start. We were seated at the bar by request. The bartender was quick to great us and serve us drinks. The back bar was decorated well with bottles and the lights were on the dim side I always like that. The food was the star of the show. The wedge salad was so delicious. The fish and chips were also top shelf. I think we found our new go to place. We will be back.

Yelp
Drove from Soring Hill for shepherds pie. Large portion but over seasoned. Average at best.

Aldona L.

Yelp
A great find on our road trip. Cute place with excellent service and food. Even dessert was scrumptious.

Yelp
Food - 10 Service - 10 even though very busy and intervention required for a missing entree Ambiance - very noisy, kids, bad singing Beer- cold, 20 ounce pours, lots on tap. Not cheap, $15 for 2 Harps. Wait - 45 minutes on a Saturday night at 6pm, playoff football games on Parking - lots For my taste, the half wedge was a bit sweet from the balsamic. I might skip that second dressing next time or get it on the side. The blue cheese was great. Excellent fries and already seasoned. Very large and juicy burger. My parents asked me to downplay my review so that it won't draw too many customers!
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
Great staff and food selections, the Guinness Bloddy was awesome along with the pimento smash burger . I would recommend this place, almost did go in as is in a strip mall, don't let that fool you.

Yelp
My Husband and I went into the restaurant to have dinner and a couple drinks. Our waiter was friendly and attentive (I forgot his name). We were in there less than 10 minutes when a bus boy (grown man) started cleaning the table next to us and I jokingly said to him "Oh, Sir, you missed a spot. No, I'm just kidding, just kidding!" and then I started laughing, thinking he would giggle, too. Instead of that, he turned to me (extremely rudely and close to my face) and said "If you don't like the way I do it, then do it yourself!" I was so shocked. I was totally just joking and his rudeness was so uncalled for, in my opinion. I mentioned what had happened to the Manager and he said "I'll monitor his attitude." He just killed my mood at that point and we left. BTW, we only had 1 drink each and we did tip our waiter almost 30% because the rudeness was not on him.

Yelp
What a wonderful Irish pub. Food is very good. Service is excellent. Restaurant is clean, which is always important. Very friendly staff as well. Just a cool place to get something to eat and a few drinks.
google avatar

Yelp
We only had a drink and an appetizer, but we enjoyed our experience here. The host was a younger guy, and he was very professional and kind. We got seated immediately, and our waitress came over quickly. Drinks were decent and came out fast. We shared the clams; they had a delicious broth and crispy homemade bread to accompany it. I'm sure the entrees would have been delicious; we just were not that hungry.

Yelp
Met my guy here for a date on a Friday night at 5pm. This place was hopping! Every table was filled with locals and tourists alike. My guy and I started with their Teriyaki Brussel sprouts, which were delicious even though i prefer a more crispy texture myself. We both got the fish and chips, which was delightfully breaded and the fries were large with good seasonings on them. For me the stand out was the tartar sauce, it was so picklerific! This will be out habg out when we meet half way.

Yelp
After our trip to Crystal Spring to see manatees, we decided to check this place out upon yelp search. This restaurant is conveniently located within 7-8 min drive from the spring. It is an Irish pub, but seems to be known for Lobster roll and other sea foods. We just wanted to try lobster roll, but realizing how good it is, ended up ordering so much more including spicy clam, Oysters, lobster fries, etc. If you are nearby, I highly recommend checking this place out for fresh/amazing foods!

Russ D.

Yelp
We came in on St Pats Even so we got in quickly (less than 20 min) and were delighted by the menu. Especially liked the specials of the day as well as the Rueben crispy roll. Sadly no room temp Guinness
google avatar

Mary L.

Yelp
Great service and excellent fish and chips. Hubby and I both had that and ate every bit of the huge filet

Yelp
Delicious little Irish pub in Crystal River! The service was great and had fun Irish vibes. We'll definitely visit again!
google avatar

Courtney C.

Yelp
Always love the food here. We mainly come for the Oysters. Oysters are always fresh. Disappointed to see they removed all of the oyster options from the menu leaving only raw and two others. Not the best ones either. Won't be coming back as often now. Hope they reconsider this as "oyster" is in the name after all. Off to find our new oyster stop.

rick

Yelp
We started off with the peel and eat shrimp and it was wonderful. The bourbon beer onion rings were to die for. A couple of ice, cold beers, and great service. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Great find in the Crystal River area. This place is exactly what its name implies. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable, and the food is well prepared and delicious. We ate here on our first night in town and we're returning again on our second night. Just a really comfortable place with great food and great service.

Yelp
I really liked this place. It looks very clean. The employees are very friendly. My waitress was Kerry Ann, and she was very attentive and kind. She took care of me and my husband. It was our first time there, and she explained to us very well how the meals came out. The food arrived on time and it didn't take me long. Everything arrived hot and super delicious. My main course was the lobster roll and no complaints, it was very tasty. And the fries were crispy and hot and not greasy. And the lobster bisque was mega, super delicious, you can't go to this one and not try it, I recommend it 100%. My husband liked the burger, it had a lot of meat and it was well cooked.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and the service was amazing! Erica (?) was fabulous. We will definitely be back to eat again.

Yelp
Heading north through Florida, I was checking my App to see what would look good. The outside does not look very assuming as it's located within a strip mall, but the photos I saw showed me a lot more and boy was like glad I tried it out. It's an interesting mix of Irish and seafood blend, but it works so well. I had the yellowfin sashimi large size as a meal, and it was delicious. If you're going to eat an entrée, this starter would be great to split among three people. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was quick with my order, which let me make good road time after refueling after a great lunch. I recommend going here if you are a local or just a tourist! Cheers!
google avatar

Shelly S.

Yelp
Ordered Bangers and Mash with cabbage and my auntie order Ruben sandwich with fries. The food was absolutely delicious!!! Specially the mash potatoes. Ambiance is great too! Love the whole vibe. Had a waitress who said she was new but did a fabulous job!
google avatar

Penny R.

Yelp
A must stop for anyone that is looking for a fun, inviting place that offers amazing drinks and plate licking dishes!!! You have to try the Ruben Egg rolls. Loaded with thinly shaved corned beef... sauerkraut....sauce.. fried to perfection and served with a spicy dipping sauce. What a taste explosion in my mouth... Poutine gravy was generous over the thick potatoes.... Oysters....plump and loaded with flavor. Order the dozen and split the flavors. We did raw with champagne and green onions. And cooked... Oyster Kilpatrick. Holiday cranberry whiskey martini....the right tanginess to go with the full bodied bourbon.... This will be our first stop next trip to Crystal River.
google avatar

Christine T.

Yelp
Always amazing! And they just expanded their menu. The Belfast Brownie is a MUST try!

james c.

Yelp
We were always happy with the food at kellys. This trip we were served oysters that were loaded with vinegar. We should have sent them back. We will never go again. The next day we went to Crumps in homosassa and the meal was not only cheaper but fantastic. John
google avatar

Hollie L.

Yelp
We love this place. Great ambience for a local pub and the staff are always lovely and friendly. We absolutely LOVE their burgers. We have had their original and now the Kelly burger. The wings were delicious as well. Everything we've tried here has been fantastic. Definitely a spot worth checking out when I'm Crystal River.
google avatar

Yelp
Bi-valves at an Irish pub? ABSOLUTELY! I got all 3 styles of mussels and they were so good. The bartenders were kind, easy to talk to and attentive. The bar atmosphere was welcoming, fun and clean. They also have Sauvignon Blanc from Marlboro!

Ron B.

Yelp
Fresh shucked oysters with firey sauce is the starter! Smothwicks on tap. Then did into the shepherds pie, outstanding and I really hungry for it...
google avatar

Tracy P.

Yelp
We have visited here a few times when we visit. On our last visit we had the grilled oysters-delicious. My husband had the burger and it was so juicy and good. I had the shrimp off the appetizer list and they were good too! We felt reasonably priced and will visit again
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
Sports bar atmosphere with dinner offerings at the next level. Interesting daily specials including $5 Jamison's shots all day every day. My wife and I shared the fish and chips which was a generous, well prepared dish. Our friends enjoyed the oysters and I had the lobster french fries, a generous portion of lobster and cheese topping over their house made fries. I thought the topping made the fries a little soggy but it was tasty and I would order it again. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable and we were a party of eight that were seated after a short wait on St Patty's day. A very busy place most days if they take reservations I'd recommend them.
google avatar

Kasi M.

Yelp
My husband and I have been told this place was a good little spot to eat and get a drink at. They were right! The ambience was great. I said little spot but they are pretty roomy for seating. Waiting though on a Friday night was a little crammed. But when you have a good little spot like this it can be tough to arrange more room for everyone. Drinks were tasty. We both got a signature margarita. Our food was yummy. They Lobster Bisque was some of the best I've had! We shared a tuna sashimi app. I got their version of "Bang Bang Shrimp." Yummy! My husband got their Philly Cheesesteak. He enjoyed it. Big portions for their price. Our server was efficient and nice! Which is key to me for a great dining experience. We will be back again!

Toni W.

Yelp
Now this is an Irish Pub!!! Tons of Irish beer and whiskey choices, you couldn't not possibly find something you'd like! We had the fish n chips and chicken goujohn (the Dijon mustard and aioli were both excellent, as dips!!). Both servings were huge and freshly made! So good! Our server, Ashley, was the sweetest, offering some great top sellers. We'll definitely be back!!

Peggy D.

Yelp
Great food, good portions and wonderful staff. Full bar and good select of beer on tap. Very comfortable Irish pub atmosphere.

Yelp
First time here. Located in a shopping plaza. What a gem. Reuben wraps were wonderful. The char grilled oysters were cooked perfectly. The Cabernet Jam was a favorite. Garlic parm, black n blue all terrific. For sure to repeat next time in town .

Victoria F.

Yelp
I've been here twice before while driving through and always looked forward to the Connecticut lobster rolls. Not on the menu any longer. They only have lobster salad sandwich which I dislike because of the mayo. The lobster fries were awful, a small clump of mayonnaised lobster salad with melted cheese on top, so salty it was inedible. I did ask before if the lobster on the fries was buttered because I don't like mayo and was told it was. Server was clueless. Didn't offer to get me something else or take it off the bill when after tasting this gross dish I asked her to take it back. At $19. The Cesar salad was way over dressed. Only my partners burger was ok, but ciabatta bread on a burger didn't work well. Asked for a crème brûlée on the menu only to be told they only serve it after 4pm. Well, that's our last visit, will be looking for another place on our drive throughs.

KC A.

Yelp
What went well? Everything, as always! A creative menu, well prepared and efficiently and cheerfully served! Waitress Mikelle was great and I'm sorry no pics but we ate it all (or mostly). Today's chix & waffles were new and completely pushed my soup off to next visit - scuppered shrimp are fun, burger is amazing and so is their fish & chips and BTW - it's an Irish BAR! Think what else they can do! Think Jameson & stout. And Smithwick's! Get to Kelly's in Crystal River and treat yourself. Oh! And oysters!!
google avatar

Yvonne T.

Yelp
Discovered Kelly's due to our manatee tour guide recommending them. Our party of 4 all LOVED our meals!!!! We got the shepherd's pie (the best my adult son has ever had, he said), the fish and chips (excellent cod and coating said my Scottish dad), the lobster bisque (absolute best my mom has ever had) and finally, the chicken tenders (tender and excellent coating). The rustic fries are delicious. My mom is a key lime pie connoisseur and was thoroughly impressed with the obviously homemade pie). Regarding the ambience, the music could be heard but it did not interfere with conversation, which is unusual for a bar/pub. The football games were on tv without sound but there were plenty of people watching them. It was such a treat eating the delicious food and being a part of a local establishment for a couple of hours. If you are in the area, Kelly's is a MUST DO for lunch or dinner~
google avatar

Jm B.

Yelp
I got a Kelly's Burger and Key Lime pie. That was seriously the best pie I ever had, and that burger was easily one of the top as well. Even the roll I was told came from a local bakery - so soft and biscuit like - complimented the whole sandwich. It literally melted in your mouth. With both items, I could tell a lot of experimentation and patience went into developing them... because it wasn't the standard burger or pie I would get at a chilies for example. There were a lot of custom components to it which made it unique. That pie was not overly tart or sweet, but was just the right amount. Compliments to the chef. I honestly did not expect this level of food quality considering it looks like your typical no frills pub.
