Phoenix’s Best Hotel Restaurants | Eater Phoenix

"While the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort’s Kembara sits just across the hall from chef Angelo Sosa’s other Phoenix restaurant, the celebrated Tía Carmen, they are worlds apart when it comes to cuisine focus — literally. Zooming in on Sosa’s passion for Asian flavors, acquired during his extensive travels throughout the continent, Kembara’s menu is an interpretive love letter to dishes from Chiang Mai in Thailand to Tokyo and beyond. Think things like lamb spring rolls, chicken satay skewers swathed in a rich cashew sauce, crab fried rice, and banana leaf Icelandic cod bursting with sambal zest. Don’t pass on the cocktails either — Kembara’s sake offerings are one of the best in the state." - Asonta Benetti

Shout out to our server Cole and chefs Stephanie and Penny for giving us one of the best meals we’ve experienced. Amazing food and amazing service, plus you can’t beat being at the JW. We absolutely LOVED the Tuna Thai Jewel appetizer (must get) along with everything else we ordered… Shrimp Shu Mai, Crab Fried Rice, Beef Rendang, Vietnamese Coffee Donuts, and Ube Delight. The cocktails were fantastic too. Hands down one of our new favorite restaurants. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Wow. What an experience. Every dish has a beautiful story. The Vietnamese coffee and desserts (all 3) took me into another dimension. The house made noodles are rustic and chewy. Every dish was phenomenal. Highly recommend going.

We had a 745 pm reservation for outside , we were sat on time even with it being a holiday weekend . The atmosphere was beautiful and the service was great ! The food was excellent especially the NY Strip and the coffee and coffee donuts !! Highly recommend hitting this place up if you are staying at the JW !

Google
Kembara is a great place to amaze a guest! This elegant restaurant is perfect to impress a client, a prom date, or celebrate an anniversary. The atmosphere is sexy, the service is 5 star and the food is delicious. The chef did cater to our gluten free restrictions. Do not skip dessert. The Halo Halo and Vietnamese Coffee Donuts are mandatory!! We just celebrated the Chinese New Year with dinner at the Kembara and they put on a fantastic show!

Google
Beautifully crafted tasty cocktails and delicious flavors in all the dishes we had. The food was exceptional- pork dumplings, crab fried rice, mushroom and leek skewers, noodle dish- each very different yet so rich in flavor. Service was also excellent, I like that they bring you warm towels in the beginning to clean your hands. If anything I wish we would have seated somewhere else. When we first got there the restaurant was fairly empty and we got seated right next to another party so automatically my experience is different since I heard everything they were talking about. There were so many empty tables around us.

Fine dining experience located at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge. This fantastic Asian restaurant has a distinct street food culture. The decor and dishes compliment each other perfectly.

Google
Kembara located in JW Desert Ridge, pays homage to Asian culture's street food and the menu is created by Chef Angelo Sosa, while travelling across Asia. The dishes are meant to be shared so we ordered: chicken satay with cashew sauce lo mein nasi goreng Malaysia snow pea shoots silken chili tofu wagyu beef rendang Drinks: Milk Tea with Brown Sugar, The Sound of Waves and Tales of the Floating World. The service was outstanding and the restaurant was busy on a Saturday night with awesome vibe and ambience. I loved the outdoor decor lanterns lit up at night! "Yes Chef!" from the kitchen throughout the night made me feel like dining at Carmy's restaurant from The Bear. :) We did feel some of the dishes is saltier than it should be.

Google
Ok is how accurately I would sum this place up. Food tasted ok, service while friendly, was just ok, the ambiance of the place was also just ok. Almost everything was just ok with the exception of the drinks and price. The drink I got was called the Joy Luck Club and it was incredible, tasted like I drank a lightly sweetened tea with a touch of alcohol. The price was not so great. For what I paid compared to what we got for food, it was truly awful. I expect a high caliber of service and quality not only for the amount that I paid, but for the type of place it is. This is inside the JW Marriot in Desert Ridge and it was very disappointing. This is the second restaurant we try here and it will be the last. Absolutely do NOT recommend this place.

Yelp
We decided to check out Kembara, an Asian street food-inspired restaurant tucked inside the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort, to take advantage of the inaugural Arizona Chef's Week: a brand-new dining event (August 1-10) celebrating local chefs, seasonal flavors, and creative flair. For $55 or $66 per person, participating restaurants were serving up exclusive three-course prix fixe menus, and we were intrigued enough by their menu to try them out for the first time. From the moment we stepped inside, the atmosphere set the tone: a tastefully decorated space with nightlife energy. It felt like we had been transported somewhere far more exotic than North Scottsdale. Our server, Colter, was a standout from the start: friendly, talkative, and full of thoughtful recommendations that made us feel genuinely welcomed. We began with the steamed pork dumplings, generously filled and served with a flavorful dipping sauce that had us savoring every bite. For entrées, my partner chose the vegetable lo mein noodles, which were hands-down the best we've ever had as it had perfectly cooked noodles, loaded with fresh vegetables, and coated with a rich sauce. The portion was large, easily enough to share between two or even three people, making it the ultimate comfort dish of the night. I opted for the Beef Rendang, a braised Wagyu short rib with coconut, lemongrass, and Fresno chili sambal. The flavors were spot-on; slightly spicy, aromatic, and comforting, though the beef had a bit of gristle that occasionally distracted from the otherwise melt-in-your-mouth texture. Dessert sealed the deal on a memorable evening. The halo-halo was a showstopper: a beautiful balance of textures, refreshing citrus notes, and creamy sweetness. Like the lo mein, it was a large portion, perfect for sharing between two or three people. My partner devoured his dessert of Vietnamese coffee donuts, dipping them into an irresistibly rich cream sauce. The cocktails were equally impressive: inventive, refreshing, and just as thoughtfully crafted as the food. Overall: Kembara delivered a truly wonderful dining experience, combining a vibrant atmosphere, warm service, and flavorful, well-executed dishes. We left talking about what we'd order on our next visit, though it will be hard to resist simply repeating the incredible lineup we had this time.

Yelp
Location. Part of the JW Marriott complex at Desert Ridge area. It's very classy and has beautiful modern indoor decor and a lovely outdoor patio with colorful lanterns. We used to enjoy this spot as Roys Hawaiian. It's not casual and it's not dog friendly. It's upscale. Servers are attentive. We are here twice last week. I made reservations using open table. They are closed Sunday and Monday. They are only open for happy hours and dinner Tuesday enjoyed it so much we came back the next evening and ate again. The crab fried rice is so good. I loved the crunchy wings. The only item I didn't really like was the egg rolls. The filling was weird. The outside was perfect and crunchy.

Yelp
As far as hotel restaurants go, its great. But Scottsdale has so many other restaurants that are so much better. Cocktails were the highlight of this restaurant. the food was served/plattered well but was ok in terms of taste. Another reason I am slightly off put was the host at entry. I entered and saw the host was engaged in conversation with another person (assume another manager) and waited for them to get done. They did, asked my name for reservations and then just continued their conversation! After a minute or 2, another gal at the hostess desk quickly grabbed a tablet and got us seated, but that experience alone was enough to lose a few stars on my rating. However, rest of the staff were great, patient and attentive during our dining experience there.

Yelp
Kembara has the best dining options on the property, without a doubt. The food and service was terrific. I ordered a vegetable lo mein. I loved that the food was brought out as it was ready, which made for a fun dining experience. My biggest complaint were their hours.

Yelp
The food is really good! Excellent service in the manager was very kind, coming over to check on us and interacting with our kids. I thought it was a little pricey but it's a resort. The desserts are SO GOOD! Food is good and they are sensitive about allergies. It's beautifully decorated, very comfortable.

Yelp
Such a hip spot inside the hotel, I almost forgot I was in a hotel. This place was very accommodating. We had a reservation for two and allowed me to bring 4 more people at the last minute. Enjoyed the food! I liked the smashed cucumber, it was light and bursting with flavor. The vegetable fried rolls were okay, a bit bland. The shrimp shumai was really good and fluffy. The chicken satay and fried rice was my favorite!!! Soooooo delicious! The server was very kind and overall it was great!
google avatar

Nimish M.

Yelp
Aggressively average and it was as expensive as it was salty. I enjoyed my cocktail and the larb, but the rest of the dishes were incredibly overseasoned. I'd love to go through the dishes but I don't remember a single flavor other than salt. And definitely don't get the wings unless you like jerky.

Yelp
Kembara was incredible! The atmosphere was intimate with fun neon lighting! Everyone we interacted with was polite and helpful. The food and drinks were unique and delicious. I ordered The Apology, which was tequila based and included boba! Such a fun idea. We also ordered the Wild Swans and Tales of the Floating World. For dinner, it was recommended that we order a few dishes to share. The ones we choose were: Chicken Satay: this was delicious and was accompanied by the perfect dipping sauce (highly recommend) Steamed Pork Dumplings: warm and fresh Pork Belly noodles: the pork belly in the dish was so flavorful and savory (also highly recommend) Crab Fried Rice: the addition of the crab made this a fun and different twist on regular fried rice and it was very tasty We also tried the Vietnamese Coffee Doughnuts which were amazing, especially with the coffee, caramel sauce. The Ube Delight sorbet was great too, which included a scoop of mango. Such a great combination.

Yelp
3.5 stars for me so I'll round up to 4 for service and portion sizes. Nice Southeast Asian themed restaurant at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge! We liked about half of our dishes. Food came in a timely manner and good portions for the price. Expected dishes to be much smaller at a resort like this! Service was also kind. Slow at times but attentive. The good: beef rendang & crab fried rice. Beef was tender and tasted authentic with the spices. Delicious. Crab fried rice was not too salty and had lots of toppings. There was enough crab to tell that it was there. So-so: papaya salad & banana leaf fish - both were a bit too salty for me but flavors were on point and the fish was very soft and well cooked. The bad: pork belly noodles & thai tea shaved ice - pork belly was wayyy too salty and noodle flavors just OK. The dessert was disappointing - not much thai tea flavor and sweet marshmallow on top. It had pickled blueberries inside which was a weird combo for us. Dessert is on the house if its a bday. You also get a free one if you're staying at the resort too. Not sure if we'll return but if you're staying at this resort it's worth a try. We kept getting our hot water refilled and they were really nice about that!

Yelp
The reviews seemed hit or miss, but we decided to check it out during our staycation at the JW Marriott and we are glad we did! The vibe of the restaurant is cool and fun! Loved the lanterns outside and the vibe but it was just way too hot to sit outside even at dinner time. Service was AMAZING! Our waiter, Cole, was very friendly and took the time to explain to us the dishes and cocktails on the menu. For our appetizers we started with the lamb spring rolls and the chicken satay. The lamb spring rolls came with 3 pieces and they were a good size. I liked the filling and the sauce but the powder dusted on top was a little too strong for me. The chicken satay came with two skewers but there were about 4 pieces of chicken on each which had the perfect char to it and it was so tender. I wish the cashew sauce that it came with had more flavor like the traditional peanut sauce. For mains we opted for the beef randang and chicken kao soi. The kao soi was served with crispy egg noodles, which was different. My husband loved it but I didn't care too much for it. The broth was delicious with the perfect amount of spice. The beef randang had two chilis listed next to it but the waiter assured us it was like a 3-5 out of 10 on the spice scale and he was right. I can't do spicy and this was just hitting the upper end of my tolerance. The beef was cooked perfectly and just melted. The flavors were bold. For dessert we got the Vietnamese coffee donuts. The donuts were so airy and pillowy and the coffee condensed milk was the perfect sweetness. Overall a great dining experience. The food is definitely pricey and I can't really justify three pieces of shumai for that price. Or even some of the other dishes like lo mein and spring rolls. But it's a nice twist on traditional asian food and definitely worth a try.

Yelp
Food and Ambiance at the place is great. Arianna was our server and she unfortunately did not pair the great food with great service. Leaving the table before everyone had ordered(twice), making two mistakes on our order, looking completely uninterested, forgetting part of our kid's order until after we had paid the bill, then proceeded to not give us any utensils for it and leaving the table before asking if we had gotten everything. Hate to be the person to be complaining but when you're automated to pay 20% gratuity on a $500 bill it's kind of absurd...

Yelp
Stayed at the JW and ate here - Clay was our server and he was awesome. The Beef Rendeng, chicken satay, fried rice, and chicken noodles were all fantastic. Highly recommend if you're in the desert ridge area.

Yelp
We made reservations for Kembara last night for Valentine's Day, the restaurant is located inside the JW Marriott resort in the same location as Tia Carmen. We arrived and Valet parked (it was $25, but you can validate for $15 off, so we paid $10 plus tip) the lobby and resort is gorgeous, you take the elevator down and the restaurant is right on the lower level. The hostess was gracious and confirmed our dietary restrictions, my gf is vegetarian so they offered her a completely separate menu. We were seated right past the bar, the decor is lovely, dark, moody and hip. Everyone was very polite and welcomed us in. We were offered sparkling or still water. The menu is very involved and the cocktails are intricate. So if you don't like speciality cocktails this might not be the place for you. My gf ordered the tale of the genji and she described it as a salty margarita. The menu was explained to us, it's more family style with larger plates and small appetizers. I ordered the shrimp shu Mai. It was PERFECT. Delicate and soft, steaming hot and the filling was incredibly fresh and flavorful. For my entree I ordered the crab fried rice. It was delicious, fresh crisp veggies, large chunks of quality crab meat and overall very good. My gf ordered the vegetable curry, keep in mind it is basically a stew, so you will need to order a side of rice to go with it. The flavors were great, but she wished there had been more veggies in the dish. It was basically just broth over rice. Overall the service was fantastic, we were offered gourmet chocolates at the end of our meal. I would definitely return. The patio looked amazing as well. I'll definitely sit outside next time!

Yelp
I'm conflicted about this place for the following reasons: As hotel dining goes, it was positive. The restaurant has interesting and attractive decor. The outdoor space is really fun (however, good luck getting a table outside). The food was good, no question. So if you come in with low expectations because you're at a hotel, you will be pleased. However, if you stack Kembara against a stand alone Scottsdale restaurant or if you remember what you're paying for the JW name/experience, you'll walk away with a "meh". The service was mediocre and the coursing of the food was a disaster. We literally received an entree before our appetizers and before our drinks. The kids meal we ordered (not cheap) didn't arrive until the last entree had been delivered for over 28 minutes (56 minutes from the first delivery of food). No one bothered to check on us or ask any follow up questions. If we were going to have a prolonged experience, they should have kept the booze coming. I didn't take pics of all the food (forgot), but it was all really tasty.

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere at night! Great food with shareable bowls but let me warn you, everything I ate except for pot stickers was spicy! We had the noodles with pork belly, steak, and beef that was sooo tender. Everything was great and I will definitely come back.

Yelp
This place was delicious! Very unique food and cocktails! Represents different Asian cuisines from around the world. Ask for Clayton he's a great server.!!!!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, delicious food, and wonderful service. Everything we ate had unique flavors and tasted amazing. My favorite dishes were the coconut sticky rice and silken chili tofu. Our server, Cole, was very informative about the menu and attentive throughout. He made sure we had a lovely evening. Thank you, Cole! Would highly recommend Kembara (and also would highly recommend Angelo Sosa's other restaurant across the hall, Tia Carmen)!
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
Kembara is an absolute jewel nestled in the Desert Ridge JW Marriott. It's inspired by South East Asian Street food, elevated with modern cooking techniques. Without hesitation, my favorite part of the entire dining experience was The Tuna Thai Jewel in the salad section (a cold soup) is not only Instagram worthy photos and presentation but the flavors literally blend and are a serious "omg". Coconut milk, ginger, lemongrass... fresh tuna...kiwi... Thai basil... The Chicken Satay was so moist and beautifully marinaded with a cashew cream. Everything was phenomenal but that soup was the star! My kids loved this restaurant and we still have the paper cranes for momentos.
google avatar

Mehruba A.

Yelp
This place was a super fun experience. I felt like I was walking into a vegas restaurant. The ambience was everything but ohmyword the food was AMAZING. The lamb spring rolls were so delectable. I savored every bite. And the sauce (have no idea what it was but I would order it just by itself). Khao soi has become one of my favorite thai dishes and theirs did not disappoint. They also have an amazing house hot sauce that just elevated everything if that was even possible. Super cool place to check out for date night or hanging out with the girls
google avatar

Paalika B.

Yelp
So so so good! We already loved the food at Tia Carmen so we knew this would live up to the hype. The Thai jewel tuna was hands down the best dish, followed by the silken tofu stew thing - it's only been a week but we're already talking about come back soon!
google avatar

Selena F.

Yelp
Loved everything about this place. Food, atmosphere and service all exceeded my expectations. We had 4 people and got to try many different things. Had no complaints other than the pork dumplings were good but nothing to rave about. The special chicken wings and pork fried rice were delicious. Vegetable lo main and wagyu entree were big hits as well. Dessert was delicious! We got the donuts and the Ube ice cream. Would definitely come back here when I'm back in town.
google avatar

Chris N.

Yelp
This place is awesome to grab dinner or also hang out with friends on the outside patio! Definitely a nice Asian feel vibe with a very eclectic menu. The flavors are definitely on point as it is heavily included by Thai and other Asian cuisines mixed together. Very easy to try multiple dishes with a few people. Drinks also delicious too! Our waiter was awesome and provided quick attentive service. Came here on a Wednesday night and wasn't too busy at all. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Wow - I loved Roy's but this Asian street food concept is amazing. Reasonably priced for being in the JW! In top 10 meals I have ever had - yes that good. Service was on point even though they are busy. Don't miss the cocktail menu - smoky whiskey drink is amazing. Wide had a clear vodka drink that was amazing.
google avatar

sally N.

Yelp
Loved the decor. Food delicious. Expect it be pricey considering where it is. Service was not the standard I'd expect for a high end restaurant. Had to ask 3 times for a tea refill and my husband didn't even get his iced tea. They served a nicely presented cocktail but took ages to arrive. Servers didn't seem to know who had ordered which dish, they just seemed confused.

Jessica P.

Yelp
Great ambiance for a date night! The Asian food is pretty comparable to high end restaurants in Singapore but is more expensive for sure. The Crab fried rice was insanely delicious. We left the eggs out so we could taste succulent crab meat. The Silken Tofu with white rice was also uniquely sour and sweet and went well with the rice and had great flavors. It was on the spicier side though. The Chive dumplings were just so-so. Would definitely go back if they improvise and bring back new dishes. Service could have been a tad better.
google avatar

Zak H.

Yelp
What a great addition!!!! While the JW is notoriously over priced, this new addition was a welcomed surprise for a special dining experience at a reasonable (2024 terms) price. Amazing flavors and presentation. Can't wait to go back! Only feedback would be that they need more staff. Maybe take one of the 4 hostesses and have them flex waiting tables or supporting wait staff. Our waiter was great but spread so thin across numerous outdoor tables. Also recommend sitting outside as it's a beautiful setting.

Jen B.

Yelp
As a local on a staycation our experience at Kembara was amazing! Our server Cole was one of the best in the industry with his attention to detail, engagement with conversations about each dish will bring us back as regularly. The food was epic, full of flavor in each dish we ordered. Complements to the chef and the menu he has created, you can tell he has taken pride in what he is doing and having fun while serving it. Highly recommend to put this place on your hot spot list for Scottsdale locals and visitors alike.

Anita S.

Yelp
Overall we enjoyed our food, ordered the veg spring rolls which I thought had too much black pepper, the dumplings were great, the beef dish had wonderful flavors to it, the crab fried rice was a maybe, may not order again. The kimchi pork rise was average or could use some improvement. There was some confusion at the front desk and the wait for seating was longer than expected especially when reservations were made two weeks earlier. The questionnaire that followed the open table reservation asked if we are celebrating anything, I checked birthday, but I guess they don't read the questionnaire so there was no acknowledgment of our reason to be there. So I feel there is a bit of tweaking to improve the experience.
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
Upon arrival, we didn't have reservations, but we were informed that there was room. The service and introductions from the host and waiter were splendid. The Wagu was over $100 but worth every bite as it easily got devoured. The lobster at MP was $52 for 1lb. The lobster was cracked already and the meat easily came out if its shell. The freshness of the lobster with the Asian spices made the lobster more delightful to eat. The boba drinks were given to the kids to taste and it was different but swallowed entirely. The entire meal was approximately $280 but worth is value for the service and delicacy. I would eat here again for the fabulous service and staff. I took pics of the food unfortunately Yelp doesn't show them since it somehow doesn't see them as being taken next to the restaurant. Yelp glitch, sorry Kembara.

Yelp
Had dinner here today. 12.11.23. Thought the food was good. They could reduce the salt. My entrees were a bit on the salty side but still very good. I love love the decor of the place and the staff was super friendly and provided premier customer service. They came multiple times to see info was ok. I would eat here again

Yelp
Completely unexpected fantastic dinner experience. The vibe, the service, the tuna jewel! Everything better than the next. And it's in on the first floor of the JW hotel!

Jasmine L.

Yelp
Food and service was amazing! I was with a group of about 12 people and we did family style of about half the menu! Overall you can't go wrong with anything! I'd try something you usually wouldn't as well, it may surprise you!

Fat Cat F.

Yelp
I walked in with high expectations. I walked out wondering how a place with this much promise could deliver something so utterly one-dimensional. Let's start small: my fork was bent. A minor detail, but one that set the tone for the rest of the meal--careless, unimpressive, and vaguely insulting. The dishes? A masterclass in disappointment. The Tuna Thai Jewel was the only dish we had that was up to par. The crab rice was aggressively salty, as if the chef mistook a salt shaker for inspiration. The noodles were dense, stubbornly al dente in a way that suggested either defiance or negligence. And the dim sum? Let's just say I've had better from a grocery store freezer. The servers weren't happy, and I don't blame them. I wouldn't be happy serving these dishes either. Their demeanor suggested they know exactly what they're peddling--and how little they're probably being paid to do so. The real draw, I assume, is meant to be the ambience. But even that is just smoke and mirrors--an empty set dressing for food that most people could make better at home. Final verdict? Don't bother.

Ana R.

Yelp
The Dim Sum happy hour menu was delicious. We ordered one of every food item to try and all of them were delicious. The shrimp shu mai was top notch.

Yelp
Unique is the keyword for this beautiful restaurant and creative dishes. We enjoyed our dining at the bar. Both bartenders were informative and attentive. We got dishes that other yelpers have recommended. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
I came with a large group and we ordered multiple items. It was served family style and they took a lot of care to bring the dishes out at the right time so we weren't overwhelmed with food all at once. There was a specific menu for our vegetarian colleague and he was able to order from a wide selection without having to compromise creativity or flavor. All the dishes were carefully planned and considered in a variety of palettes that still had a common thread of Asian-inspired and well-executed. The waitress was wonderful as well. Would come again!

Yelp
Currently staying at the Marriott for our mini baby moon. We're locals and wanted to do something more elevated than just popping over to desert ridge for dinner. This restaurant was AMAZING. The service, the food and the experience is one we won't forget. From the moment we stepped up to the hostess stand everyone was so helpful and friendly. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped us pick items that would complement each other well. We sat near the kitchen which was a fun experience! (If you watch "the bear" you'd love sitting next to the kitchen!) the chef de cuisine even came to our table and was so nice! This truly is a hidden gem and we can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
Enjoyed the AZ week menu, with the Tuna Thai Jewel becoming a favorite! The deserts are also a nice ending to a flavorful meal. Note that some spice level cannot be adjusted but they were just right for the dish. Service was wonderful, with your meal enjoyment and satisfaction top of mind! Enjoyed the ambiance, from the background playlist to the Asian theme felt in the restaurant. Would love to come back and try more dishes!

Tiffany W.

Yelp
This was an excellent meal and experience. We tried the Tuna Thai Jewel, pork dumplings, smashed cucumbers, lamb spring rolls, crab fried rice, and the taiyaki for dessert. Everything was so delicious, perfectly seasoned, and had appealing texture and temperature. Our favorite dish was the Thai Jewel because it was so unique and each bite was interesting and we kept saying, "What is that? It's delicious!" The taiyaki dessert was also amazing. I was very curious about the miso caramel and it was delightful. They should put more of that on the plate. I also got a scoop of ube gelato with the dessert and it was a wonderful creamy texture with flavor that complimented the other flavors in the taiyaki. The service was great! We were seated immediately and our server was helpful, gave suggestions, and was funny and personable. The ambiance was cool but calm and it was well decorated. Also, the chairs were really comfortable.

Yelp
During a week in Phoenix we sampled a lot of restaurants and this was very much one our favs. The cuisine is Asian, with a lot of shareable items. The staff was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the menu items. We enjoyed all of the dishes! The ambiance is super chill high end, but the prices are fairly reasonable given the setting and the service. The restaurant is on the lower level of the hotel atrium and is definitely worth a visit even if you're not staying at the JW.

Yelp
I felt that I was shortchanged on a couple of dishes, and when I pointed this out to the waitress she offered no empathy or attempt to address my concerns. The shrimp shu mai ($14) order contained only 3 (I'm accustomed to receiving more at most restaurants), and more importantly they were mushy and fell apart upon pick up. The pork belly noodle dish ( $31) contained only two slivers of pork. Disappointing!

Yelp
I tried this place because the reviews of the influencers on IG promoted the Chicken Khao Soi. That is one of my favorite Thai dishes. The ambiance and esthetic are nice. The service and the food were lacking considering the price. The libations are delicious and were priced on par with a high-end restaurant in LA. Considering the pricing, I expected the quality of the food to be better. We ordered the Chicken Khao Soi, the steak, and vegetable fried rice and lamb egg rolls. The food was made fresh, and that was my only positive. For dessert, we had the Vietnamese Donuts, and they were good.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place. The vibe was classy and upscale, very pretty table setup. Service was great and our server was very welcoming. However, the food was so-so for the price, especially the dimsum. I also tried the wagyu beef rendang -- a little on the salty side. The best of it was the tuna thai jewel. The broth was palate cleansing and the tuna was very fresh (pictured). Great rec by our server and partly redeemed this experience.

Yelp
We had an incredible experience at Kembara last night. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation now! Our server, Clayton, was the BEST. (Ask for him!!!!) He was so knowledgeable in each dish and emphasized that everything on the menu is carefully crafted, unique and made in house- from the spices to the handmade noodles and dumpling wrappers. After our first dish was delivered, I noticed Chef Sosa happened to walk through the restaurant. When he saw me glance over at him, he immediately did a U Turn and came over to say hello, encouraging my husband to drink the remaining broth of the Tuna Thai Jewel right from the bowl. It was so good, you had to! This was a unique and fully rounded dish. Each bite was incredible- a MUST order. We also had the dim sum, pork belly noodles, and chicken khao soi (this is my favorite Thai dish, something you don't often find anywhere in Phoenix and the reason we came into the restaurant.) It was flavorful and perfectly spiced. Their specialty high balls are unique and the Joy Luck Club cocktail is my new favorite drink of all time anywhere. I've never had anything like it. Clayton described how it's made and the filtration process. It is obvious how much time and thought they put into everything in this restaurant. Thank you to Chef Sosa and Clayton for a truly awesome experience!!! We'll see you again soon.

Yelp
Came here for my birthday and had a wonderful experience. Service was on point, and the food was incredible. Started with the steamed dumplings and shu mai. Both were very well done and tasty. But the star of the show was the chili crab. It was so flavorful, rich and filling. Reminiscent of what we had at the hawker stalls.in Singapore ( but with king crab!). If I had to find any opportunities it would be that the wine list is very limited, and the steamed dumplings while tasty were very small. And you only got 3 of each (dumplings and shu mai). So for items meant to be shared serving just 3 (or any odd number for that matter) means someone only gets 1 to try. That being said I would definitely go again as the flavors outshine any minor shortcomings.

Yelp
Food was well done and flavorful. Dedication to the craft noted. Will be back. We had the tuna, pork belly noodles, wagyu rendang. All amazing.
