"The history of this magnificent country mansion overlooking the Idrijca river valley dates back to the 14C. Today, the building houses a warm and elegant restaurant, with stylish rooms for winter dining and a beautiful terrace for the summer. The cuisine is traditional and full of authentic flavours, featuring two tasting menus – Katarina (fish) and Jakob (meat). We recommend the latter, especially if it includes the delicious “bati and bakalca” (steamed bread dough and lamb goulash). The entire wine list is dedicated to Slovenia, with all wines available by the glass – the Štemberger Malvazija is particularly good. Charming guestrooms complete the picture." - Michelin Inspector

"You’re not going to just happen across the 12th-century Slovene village of Spodnja Idrija, but it’s worth going out of your way when you know a hotel like Kendov Dvorec awaits at the end of the road. In its early days — records go back to 1377 — it was a country manor, and though the village has filled in around it, it still feels splendidly secluded, surrounded by gardens, lawns, and apple trees. Today it’s a classic small luxury hotel, with an old-world atmosphere that feels untouched by the passage of centuries, and an elegant restaurant that specializes in Idrija’s local culinary traditions, including trout from the Trebušica river." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed here for 5 nights as a base to explore the region, but unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. • Our attic room had a lovely view of the village, but it was dark and poorly designed. The air conditioning unit was placed right under the window, making it impossible to use it without keeping the curtains open, not ideal during hot summer days. • The bathroom roof window had a curtain that fell down daily, which became annoying. • There was no kettle or coffee/tea setup in the room, you have to order tea via room service. • Service throughout our stay felt indifferent and uninterested. Despite it being included in our booking confirmation, no welcome drink was offered. • Breakfast was minimal and repetitive every day: standard croissants with powdered sugar, no local touches or variation. The only highlight was a small jar of what seemed to be local honey. • The room had cookies, but they weren’t local or organic, a missed opportunity for something authentic or thoughtful. • We chose not to dine at the hotel due to the underwhelming breakfast and lack of attention to detail. Overall, the hotel lacks passion and hospitality. For €190 per night, we expected a much higher standard and a more welcoming experience. Sadly, we wouldn’t recommend it.

We were able to enjoy a wonderful and heartwarming stay at Kendov Dvorec. Very emotional was our dog's last night on earth. She was very ill and we went there for a cozy and quiet atmosphere. She visited us during our fine dinner and was happy to get a little bit of the delicacies. A huge thank you to the whole team, it will remain in our hearts as a unforgettable farewell.

Absolutely delightful stay at this historic Relais & Chateaux property. Less than 2 hours drive from Ljubljana, we received a warm welcome & shown to our comfortable suites with antique furnishings & windows looking out to views of the valley and neighbouring village. It felt like staying in someone’s home & the nice touches and comfortable bed & luxurious bedding was heaven after a day of exploring the area. They have a wonderful restaurant serving local Slovenian fare which was beautifully cooked snd served with much aplomb. The owners obviously take much pride & the love/attention shown was obvious. Price wise, we felt was fair & good value. Breakfast the next morning was amazing. A full cold range plus bakeries & home made jams, preserves, honey plus hot items you could order. Overall a memorable stay & delicious food!

My wife and I stayed four nights and enjoyed the beautiful garden area and dinner every day! The stately manor maintains historic charm, with remodeled bathrooms. The “quiet” is amazing and so peaceful! The authentic Slovenian food (Michelin Plate) and the local wines were perfect for us. My wife enjoyed a different trout preparation each evening. Check offerings!

Absolute gem of a place- charming, quiet and relaxing. The place is small and intimate, set on a cliff overlooking the village below. The staff go above and beyond to ensure that guests are comfortable. We spent two days just driving to nearby spots, lounging about looking at the hills and reading our books in little nooks and corners. The food at the in-house restaurant needs a mention too. It was fresh and delicious. Overall, an amazing experience.
