Best Sushi in San Jose (2025)
Kenji Sushi

Google
We ordered Octopus karaage, Jalapeno Bomb, king Crab Roll and Alaska Roll. We loved the karaage most and Jalapeno bomb was good too. But the rolls were not as expected, would rate them below avg. Staff and restaurant environment were standard. Parking might be issue specially during weekend nights.

Firstly, Gwen, our server, gets accolades and five stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. She made this luncheon for four senior ladies "over the top!" Handicap parking was so very welcome. We didn't arrive until 1:15. The lunch crowd was gone. The menu is beyond outstanding. Each of us ordered something different. We shared... A delicious seared salmon mango salad, Salmon teriyaki with rice and salad, Seafood udon noodle soup. We topped it off with cheesecake. If we didn't live 40 miles from Kenji Sushi, we would eat there at least once a week. We felt welcomed and appreciated by the serving staff. Don't miss this place. You will be delighted!

Google
Best sushi I've ever had, I would rate 10/10. Great service and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

Nessa U.

Google
I had such a great experience here! The sushi was fresh and beautifully prepared easily some of the best I’ve had. The service was great! The staff were attentive, friendly, and made me feel welcomed from the moment I walked in! Everything came out quickly, and I left feeling completely satisfied. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this spot to others! The ice cream was definitely a plus! (:

Quantum R.

Google
Bottom line, don't come here for nigiri. The rolls are pretty good. Drinks seemed fun and not too watered down. Given the average rating, my expectation was higher. My first bite of nigiri was quite good, very fresh and tender. Unfortunately, every bite after was a disappointment, lacking freshness, or having unbalanced flavors. I wonder if the current rating is inflated by their offer for free food if you give them 5 stars.

Moustafa M.

Google
Kenji is a solid sushi spot in San Jose with fresh, well-prepared sushi and a chill, modern vibe that makes it a great place to hang out with friends or enjoy a casual date night. The fish quality was great, and the presentation was on point. However, the service could use some improvement. While the staff was polite, the wait times were a bit longer than expected, and we had to ask more than once for a few basic things. Nothing major, but with smoother and more attentive service, this place could easily be a five-star experience.

Google
Loved the jalapeño bombs for something new and creative if you’re hungry for apps. And the mystery house roll was the best! This was the shrimp tempura roll.

Google
On Winchester Avenue, Kenji Sushi is just across the street from Santana Row but it shouldn’t be ignored. Even on a busy Friday night, they’re seating you almost immediately and reasonably quick with the food and drink. The pork and vegetable fried gyoza are good - as you would expect. Highly recommend the exotic rolls - the Ultimate Shrimp (shrimp tempura and cucumber inside, Kani and shrimp outside) and the Victoria Secret roll (tuna, salmon, yellowtail in soy paper with avocado and ponzu sauce). Both substantial in size and not overplaying the rice. Don’t forget the crispy rice with spicy tuna appetizer. While it’s a large piece of crispy rice, you get just as much tuna, so it’s a perfect proportion. Solid sushi restaurant. Will come back!

Yelp
I stopped in for a late lunch at Kenji Sushi at 1:30pm and ordered my favorite Bento Box combination of salmon teriyaki, tempura and an extra salad instead of rice. It was delicious! As always, the food quality is spot on consistent which is why I keep coming back. The service is friendly and efficient. If you are in the vicinity of Santana Row, Kenji Sushi is across the street. There is plenty of parking on-site at the restaurant.

Yelp
Food was great! Atmosphere was lively. Staff was nice and attentive. The sashimi in particular was good

Yelp
Kenji Sushi is a solid choice when you want fresh sushi and friendly service. Four stars from me. The fish tastes clean and fresh, and everything comes out well prepared. Rolls are balanced, nigiri has a smooth texture, and the flavors feel bright and satisfying. It is clear they care about quality here. Service is attentive in a warm, natural way. Staff checks in, keeps drinks filled, and brings dishes out at a good pace. You feel taken care of without being rushed or ignored. The only challenge is parking. It is super limited and not easy. Once you leave the lot, you will likely need to drive about a mile to circle back because the area is very busy with Valley Fair and Santana Row traffic. Plan ahead if you are coming during peak hours. Great food, great service, and worth the trip. I will definitely be back when the sushi craving hits again.

Yelp
The service was really good, the servers were very kind and checked on us multiple times. The food itself was delicious as well, some of the best sushi in the area

Yelp
Love everything. Couldn't take a picture of most of the dishes because we finished everything. From the sushi to the desert. Fantastic

Yelp
I've been coming here for the past 10 years since I'm local to this area, and while the quality of the food never disappoints, my only drawback is how much they have shrunk the portions of their rolls and their appetizers, especially their edamame, while increasing the prices. It's very unfortunate that the roles now look a lot smaller but I still come for the dragon roll and the baked Langoustine roll, and get their spicy garlic edamame. Their fish is very fresh, which I definitely appreciate, and while the interior decor is still the same as it has been since I first came here, it's always kept clean and the food is where it's at!
google avatar

Yelp
Had salmon nigiri, sugar daddy roll, and city by the sea roll and all the fish was so fresh and quality! Great spot I found passing through San Jose would def come back when I'm in town!

Yelp
Your sign to finally try the restaurant that you've always driven by! We've driven past @kenjisushi_sj so many times going to Valley Fair Mall but just never got the chance to try it until now, and wow have we been missing out! With a bar, fresh sushi and sashimi, and even hot plates from the kitchen, this is the place to go, especially after a long day of shopping Service is super nice and the ambiance is super chill and a great place to hang out!

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday night with a group of 6 people- it was decently busy but we only had to wait 5 mins for a table. Sushi was pretty good! Fish tasted fresh and some rolls were unique. However, at $20 per roll, it's quite pricey. Additionally they try to get you to post a 5 star review in order to get something free, which feels wrong to me, so I don't love that. Cute and casual ambiance inside. Parking lot is small but usually has spots!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite places to visit when I'm in the Bay Area. If you're new to the area or visiting and like authentic sushi, this is the spot
google avatar

Travis W.

Yelp
I had lunch here and it did not disappoint. The food was flavorful. I had a bento box that had plenty of food in it and left me feeling quite full. The quality of the sushi roll and the teriyaki chicken was very good. The waitress was extremely friendly and helpful in ordering and kept our hot tea filled.
google avatar

Yelp
Fast service and fresh sushi! It's Saturday 4pm with plenty of people eating, a good sign. Nice ambience and tvs. Will come back

Yelp
Nice vibes, first time trying :) we got rising sun, rainbow and nana roll. Looks great!!

Yelp
Good sushi when in San Jose. Had 2 of the Exotic Rolls and they were both delicious! Ordered miso soup and side salad which were both tasty. Gyoza was also good. Service is fast. Went for casual late dinner. Indoor seating available with cute decorations.

Yelp
I come here almost every week for the past few years. I almist always order the same dish Nana sushi, and my senior friend orders bento box: with teriyaki salmon and sashimi. The quality of food never disappoint us. And the portion is a little bit more than similar restaurant.

Phuong Thao L.

Yelp
We had a great experience! The employees were friendly, the food was fresh, and everything was to our taste. We tried the sukiyaki udon and a rainbow roll--both were delicious. I especially loved the udon noodles , and the best part of the sushi was the flavorful filling inside. Overall, a wonderful visit!
google avatar

Adam N.

Yelp
I came here and tried the Cherry Blossom, Tuna Lover, Pink Lady, and a miso soup. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, the rolls were nicely put together and the fish quality stood out. I also got extra ginger, which I appreciated since not every place is generous with it. The service was really good too, the staff was attentive and friendly the whole time. Overall a great experience and I'd definitely come back. The aesthetic of the restaurant was pleasing too along with the environment!

Yelp
Very nice place near Santana Row. They have parking and the ambiance is nice. We sat a booth which was pleasant. Food was good. Tip: lunch special is Mon-Sat 11:30am-3:30pm.

Yelp
Taken out 3 times now and can happily say this place is great! I wish I would have taken pictures of our rolls because they look soo delicious!! regardless, I phoned-in my order. The person who took my order was really nice and accommodating! I asked for a Dancing Dragon without eel and more spicy tuna. They did it, no charge! I know it's annoying to make adjustments to the menu but I thought I'd try it and they allowed it. So yummy. Inside : shrimp tempura and cucumbers. OUT: extra spicy tuna, avocado, spicy mayo, unagi sauce, and scallions. So so good 8.5/10. We also order the Super Mexican Roll In: Crab, avocado; out: spicy tuna, deep-fried unagi with spicy mayo and unagi sauce. Cooked. 8.5/10 the spicy garlic edamame is 10/10. Love love love the way they season their edamame. I use the juice of that spicy garlic sauce on my Dancing Dragon roll. We picked up , took about 15 minutes.

Yelp
Food was so yummy. Like that they're open late for late night sushi cravings. Seated immediately and food came out fast.

Yelp
If you're looking for a good sushi spot to eat at this is you place! The fish is fresh and presentation is really nice. My group had a good amount of service, not hovering and checked up on us just enough. The place is full and parking lot was packed, so that is how you know it's good. The inside was really nice as well and air conditioned well for a hot summer day.
google avatar

Mandy L.

Yelp
We ordered: Sashimi Moriawase - a stunning platter of fresh sashimi, beautifully served on ice Cold Sampler (9-piece) - includes uni, toro, ikura, and more--each piece is carefully crafted and flavorful Negitoro Tartar - fatty tuna mixed with avocado, topped with caviar and microgreens Yellowtail Jalapeño Sashimi - super fresh with just the right amount of heat Don't miss their vibrant drinks--refreshing and super Instagram-worthy! Love that they're open late. Tt's a great option when those sushi cravings hit. The vibe here is casual and welcoming, the food presentation is on point, and the service was amazing--everyone was so kind! Fish is fresh, flavors are clean, and the rolls are actually balanced. A solid sushi spot in San Jose!

Yelp
Sushi here is always delicious. Service is fast and really kind. Definitely recommend the lion king

Yelp
Used to love this restaurant. Then yesterday I went with my boyfriend. After waiting in the front for a few minutes in a mostly-empty restaurant, trying to make eye contact with one of the two employees, we were seated. Most of the experience was average, but we got the oysters... Literally never do this. Found a worm in there!!! (likely a bristle worm, which generally indicates the seafood was NOT properly cleaned and prepared...). I'm not someone who is comfortable pointing stuff like this out to wait staff, but I was genuinely so grossed out & nauseous, and I eventually flagged over our waiter and pointed it out. Her response was to... offer to replace the singular oyster the worm came out of. That's honestly such a lame "apology" after a customer finds a literal parasitic worm in their food. Rip. Not going back!

Yelp
I've been here a bunch of times and it's always a good experience. Never wildly busy and the food is excellent. We tend to default to a bento box and roll to share. The chicken Katsu and tempura is lightly breaded(as it should be) and crispy. Really good. The bento box is well appointed and laid out. Since my GF is pregnant we have to get a deep fried roll, so we went with a golden California which is crab, shrimp tempura and avocado. It delivered. Since Suro Sushi on Saratoga closed down, this will be our spot from now on. The menu is quite large and has many items you don't typically see(like Lasagna). Recommended.

Yelp
We've been ordering from this place more frequently recently when we found out they have soy paper replacement for seaweed (and my partner doesn't like seaweed). The service is pretty quick and the inside is quite spacious with lots of seats, but there's still always a line because it's so popular in a prime location right by Valleyfair. We've ordered jalapeno yellowtail from here before and one of the fish pieces came with scale still attached :(( and it was too fishy. I think they do better on rolls where you're not so focused on the quality of fish because there's so much other things going on. For the price though, I would say the quality and amount of food is very fair. I think I'm just nitpicking a bit here. I like a lot of their rolls. I think out of the one I tried most recently I quite liked the kamikaze. It had albacore inside the roll and on top. The combination of jalapeños on top, the cucumber + cilantro inside made the roll pretty refreshing. The sweet potatoes added a fun crunch as well.

Yelp
I wished I would've gotten our servers name! He was very nice, attentive & helpful (asked him a bunch of questions since it was our first time), he also spoke Vietnamese, & gave us training things for chopsticks for my 2 kids. The sushi here is super fresh & delicious, the sashimi melted in your mouth like butter. Presentation was also very beautiful. The rolls were also delicious & flavorful. My kids loved the deep fried octopus. Overall, great sushi, great service.

Yelp
My partner and I have enjoyed our previous visits here. Since we hadn't dined here since mid-2024, we decided to grab lunch while running errands on a Sunday. SERVICE Our experience began positively, as we were seated quickly, which we appreciate. However, I've noticed a decline in the quality of customer service during our recent visit. After ordering two sushi rolls and drinks, the food was promptly served, but we didn't receive any follow-up to check if we needed anything else during our meal. Once we finished eating, a waitress came to clear our empty dishes, but then we waited for about eight minutes without anyone checking in on us. Despite three waitstaff nearby, it felt like they were unaware of our need for assistance. I eventually had to call a passing server to ask for our check. The restaurant was at about 55% capacity, so it wasn't too busy. SUSHI * Nana * Caterpillar Honestly, the quality of the sushi has declined as well. The fish is not as fresh, and the rolls are small for the price, around $18 to $20 each. Following this recent experience, I will be taking my business elsewhere. They must seriously consider the feedback provided on Yelp and other platforms, as there are evident issues that need addressing.

Yelp
Super spacious and clean restaurant!! Parking is a bit hard if it's during a busy time to eat. Service was great. The food was good too!! 1) Hamachi toro & scallop 10/10 2) garlic edamame 10/10 3) Sugar daddy roll 8/10 - got tired of the salmon after awhile lol
google avatar

Yelp
Super tasty stuff, I always come here to grab the jalapeño bombs and variety of rolls. service is always quick and through. Ambience is very cutesy and a lot of seating so I never have to wait too long.

Yelp
I was driving down Winchester when this location caught my eye. It gave me Sushi Confidential vibes, so I had to check it out. After tasting the food, I was blown away. It's way better! I highly suggest the Tuna Lover Roll, Albacore Sashimi, Chicken Katsu, and Miso soup. Everything was incredibly fresh, and that is something I highly value in a sushi restaurant. Additionally, the service was excellent. The waitress was very sweet. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you guys!!

Yelp
Love this place! We come here often with the colleagues. The food is fresh. The service is fast. My favorite one is Nana roll. Oh, so yummy. Bento boxes are HUGE!!! Ambiance is very nice and relaxing. Also: budget friendly. Recommend.

Yelp
We were going to spend a few days visiting Santa Cruz and surrounding areas. Our hotel was in San Jose and we were driving in from LA. We originally planned to try a Vietnamese restaurant but we took too long at the Tejon outlets that by the time we arrived in town it was 9 pm and most places closed at 9 or 9:30 pm Luckily Kenji closes after 11pm. We got there at about 9:40pm. There was a sign in sheet and I wrote my name and party of 4. Not even a minute passed by and the hostess walks us to our table. What we ordered came out so quickly. I was so hungry and excited to eat that I totally forgot to take pictures of the food! The service was great the food was fresh and the vibe was nice. We were out by 10:30 and it was a Saturday night! Will totally come back if we're in the area again!

Yelp
this place is very good!!! we came in wanting something affordable and the reviews looked promising. the staff are very nice and food comes out pretty fast. the sushi was good overall-- fresh fish, moderate temperature soft rice (not hard cold rice), and good seasoning. i would definitely come back it's yummy, clean, and moderately priced
google avatar

Pam V.

Yelp
Have been going to this restaurant for years and the food does not disappoint! The sushi is so fresh and comes out very quickly. Service is also amazing

Ted S.

Yelp
The lunch bento box is my favorite and is always perfect. The teriyaki chicken is made with the high quality chicken breasts not thighs. The sashimi is always so fresh. Love it! Perfect for Friday lunch with colleagues The staff is so nice and friendly
google avatar

Yelp
Quick & friendly lunch service with coworkers! chicken Katsu bento box with sashimi was good :)

Yelp
Went to Kenji for lunch with my colleagues. Fast services, friendly staff, delicious food. Overall, we had a great experience here. I definitely come back
google avatar

Yelp
Food never disappoints! We had the popcorn langoustine and mystery house roll. They are a must. Waiters provided attentive service. The ambiance was popping. It was busy.
google avatar

Riven B.

Yelp
Just recently went to kenji sushi for the first time! Tried the Crunch Mango Roll and Spicy Lion King Roll--both were delicious! The mango roll was light, fresh, and perfectly crunchy, while the Lion King had a rich, spicy kick. Fresh ingredients, great presentation, and quick, friendly service. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Kaelin N.

Yelp
Not bad! My friends and I came here for lunch coming from Santana Row. I've never been here before. While the parking lot is on the smaller side, the inside of the restaurant is quite large. It was pretty empty for peak weekend lunch time. We only got a bunch of rolls, so I can't say too much on their fish quality, but I did enjoy the food. Service was good. Kind of expensive for what it is, but already it's relative to the area.
google avatar

Kelsey C.

Yelp
Great ambiance inside music playing and comfortable lounge seats available. We sat at the bar and Joseph was very attentive. We ordered the rainbow roll and spicy lion king. YUM
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the Subrise Roll, Hotel California Roll, and the Mango crunch roll. Highly suggest any of those. The gyoza was also quite delicious.

Sandra V.

Yelp
They have some of the best sushi in town. Their gyoza, spicy garlic edamame, toro sashimi are some of our favorites!! highly recommend this place, especially if you're looking for high quality and fresh ingredients
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
This sushi spot is in a good location and they have their own parking lot. The staff were quick to seat us and check on us. The food was pretty solid! I really enjoyed their baked rolls more so than the typical regular rolls. It's a good place to dine casually with your family on a nice night out.
