Where To Eat In Uptown Manhattan's Little Dominican Republic

"This iconic neighborhood bakery is a must-visit for Dominican-style café con leche, chicken, pastelitos, or (if you’re here around midday) a pan tostado con queso y jamon. If you have a celebration coming up, you can never go wrong with Bizcocho Dominicano, a traditional Dominican cake with meringue icing. " - shelley worrell 31

I’ve been a regular here for about 5 years. The ladies are kind, sandwiches are made fresh, and the donuts are great — everything you want from your local donut shop.

Grant Willis

Google
They accept debit card but with a $.50 fee. Really great selection all with a clean and well kept store front. They also host a classic car show every Saturday morning At 7 Am. Come check it out and grab breakfast. They share the parking lot with the jack in the box. Its my go to donut shop.

Cheryl N.

Google
We stopped going here about 5 months ago because the donuts were stale. We would stop before work, around 7am. Went this morning and the donuts were stale. Does anyone else experience this here?

If you are looking for unique goodies to satisfy your sweet tooth, this is definitely the place to go! I first experienced Sockerbit in NYC, and had to stop at the CA location. There are a ton of different candies to choose from, and each one is so delicious and different than typical American candies. Make sure to try the sour skulls!

Google
This place says it close at 12:30 i went there with my family at 10:30 the door was closed but there was old asian guy inside I knocked the door to ask him if he can open to buy he looked at me and then turn his face to other side i knocked again but he ignored me idk why these people are so racist and rude you should learn how to respect your customers its was my first and last time go there

Google
I would recommend this place over the other shops in the area. Donuts are good and the breakfast sandwiches are tasty. The individuals working there have been friendly.

letti

Google
My only complaint is that they aren't open 24/7 Love the breakfast sandwiches. And the Donuts are always perfect. Great service too.

J

Google
Very friendly. A variety of choices. Their chocolate chip stuffed donut is out of this world. Always moist and fresh!!!

Yelp
I haven't bought donuts in a few years, but decided to stop by and get some for my coworkers today. I was surprised a Dozen of their "special" donuts cost almost $20. I remember being able to get a dozen donuts for like $12-15. Donuts were tasty and tasted fresh and there was a mix of a lot of different types, but im still kind of shocked how expensive donuts cost now.

Yelp
Many people say that Kennys donuts are the best around my area. My wife wanted plain cake donuts but the ones from other the area taste funny. Or the texture is funny, either too soft inside or oily. Kennys is kind of small inside and so is the display. But the service is good, friendly. there is a 50 cent charge for credit cards. I got myself an apple bear claw, she got a raspberry fritter or tart? and her plain cake donut. Also a maple bar. Seemed like a few regulars arrived. A mom and Little Leaguer arrived. I guess they know, this is the place for good dounts at at good price. Of course we will be back.

Yelp
I'm giving this place 3 stars, the ham and cheese croissant was delicious, and so was the blueberry donut. However the man who was there needs to be retrained. He was friendly but slow, he didn't seem to know how to use the credit machine, he never offered me my receipt, or anyone else if the ribbon off the machine is an indicator, and ended up charging me twice.

Joe A.

Yelp
Based on freshness, price, and quality, I can leave a review. On customer service I rather not rate since the lady that helped didn't speak much English, but she was of good help. Today, I purchased 1 dozen, and the price was outrageous, so I had high hopes on a really good donut. When I opened the box, all the frosting from each donut was infused with each other. I believe wax papers are used in other donut shops to keep the donuts from forming into a huge glazed ball of donuts. The freshness was 3 out of 10, kinda like thay are made the day before. If you go here, you must be local, and it's more of a convenient thing rather than a donut go-to spot.

Christine S.

Yelp
This is our go to donut shop for donuts on the weekend. The ladies here are so sweet and the donuts are solid .
google avatar

Yelp
Great donuts in the area if you're looking to curb your craving! People are nice and donuts are fresh.

Yelp
Went in on a weekend for donuts and coffee I did not realize how expensive donuts are now. I honestly don't know if they cost the same at other donut shops since I don't get donuts often. I paid almost $20 for a dozen donuts! I could not believe it. Donuts were ok. Seem the same as other donut shops.

Yelp
Great donuts, great service, great gals. Open Sundays. Car shows Saturdays.....!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
This was the 1st time I've been here. There is a car show on Saturday mornings. So I met a friend there. I had my go to donut that is a devil's food with nut and a coffee. The donut was about average and the coffee was good. The employees were very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
In all honesty, I cannot comment on the quality of the donuts because I never tried them. This is because I walked in (around 6:30 am) and saw 3 customers with no masks on. What made it worse, however, was that the person behind the counter was also maskless. As soon as I walked in, she quickly put her mask on but who knows how long she waited. As a result, I immediately left and I don't feel comfortable coming back. It's sad because I really want to support local businesses, but this is simply not safe.

Yelp
Any review other than 5 stars should be disregarded. I pick up donuts for my office when it's someone's birthday.. ive been to countless donut shops (YLS bakery is also good - but out of the way sometimes) This place doesnt get any better - quality service - family owned - early operating hours - and the donuts are delicious and have a more "home-made" look to them. Furthermore, owner is extremely kind and genuine.. has an old-school vibe to it.. where cash is king and they know you on first name basis. Returning tomorrow in fact!
google avatar

pam g.

Yelp
They don't wear mask and No social distancing! The owner or the lady that works there refuse to wear mask and if you ask her to wear one nicely for you she will become rude and yell!!!!

Yelp
I been trying my best to support ma& pa shops. I am so glad that I bump into this place. I drive from North Tustin to go get these delicious donuts. I've had the butter croissant, chocolate cake donut, maple bar and frosted chocolate fluffy donut. Let me say that 1 they DONT cheat you on the icing. Number two when you chew and bite into the donut it doesn't feel like a greasy oil going down your throat it's true perfection for my pallet. They only stay open till 12 but that how you know their freshly baked. Keep in mind if there's a particular donut you want best bet is to show up early , I showed up at 9:30 am and all the chocolate bars donuts were gone. I haven't yet to try a chocolate bar donut and I read the reviews that they are one of the best in town ....I can't wait to try you! Till next time

Yelp
I've been going to Kenny's for over 15 years! I live in Las Vegas now and mom and pop donut shops are rare there. They really only have chain donut shops so I always wait to have Kenny's when I'm in YL. My ultimate favorites (and hard to find anywhere else) is the orange cake donut and ham and cheese croissant! I've turned so many people on to the orange donut...they'll make it for you fresh if you get there late and they ran out! Kenny's is the best! When I'm in town working, my treat is to stop and pick up an orange donut for breakfast and grab a ham and cheese croissant for lunch!
google avatar

Zeeshan I.

Yelp
Can't speak for the donuts, but if you want a nice breakfast...can't go wrong with the croissant sandwiches. I had the number 1 (eggs and cheese - and I asked for some siracha). Absolutely fantastic! Nothing fancy, but it was so delicious I felt the need to write a review. I think they're only open till noon though. They also have a car show on either Saturday or Sunday.

Yelp
I just went to Kenny's donuts this morning to get my family donuts. My Nephew wanted pink frosting with sprinkles (totally a kid thing to want)! When I went, they had everything that all of us wanted, (chocolate bars, twists, glazed, apple fritters) but I only saw a plain pink frosting and other colors with sprinkles. I told her my dilemma to make my nephew happy, and she said "hold on". She went back and made him 2 fresh donuts with pink and sprinkles! She made my nephew's day! (And mine too!) They've always been great, but this was a step above! Please go to Kenny's, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Great place. Been coming here for years. Their sandwiches are so good, they're made fresh to order.
google avatar

Yelp
Donuts are fresh daily and there's always great variety. Staff is really nice and helpful. Quality- tasty, properly made, etc. This place gets a few of the regulars every morning, which is comforting knowing that you see the same people, all the time. It's good! They also have breakfast sandwiches, coffee and bottled drinks, which adds to the value of the place. If I want donuts, I go here.
google avatar

Patrick D.

Yelp
The best donut shop in the hole area. Everyone that works there that's friendly and the prices are excellent after a while they pretty much become like an extended family, they always ask how my grandma is doing ever since I was a little kid I've been known to this donut shop this is the one that I will always go to.

Ya'Ron B.

Yelp
Nice and flavorful! Definitely fresh and you will have a repeat customer in me. I may have to run to your location from my house to burn off the calories but I'll be back! Couldn't take a pic because I took the first bite and inhaled the rest.

Yelp
I love this place. Best Donuts in town. My daughter and I always come every Thursday and get a delicious Donut
google avatar

Yelp
I asked for a croissant toasted & cut hamburger style. I trusted she got it right since it was a very* simple order. I was wrong. She added cream cheese, so I went back & asked for a new one because I never asked for cream cheese. She responded "Well what do you want?" (this lady is nice but her words and tone sometimes....) I said nothing just plain & toasted. She then tells me "Oh Ill give you some money back" I said it wasnt necessary, but then she informed me that she had CHARGED me for the cream cheese I didnt ask for. If there is an extra charge for something you should INFORM the customer always.

Yelp
I'm kind of confused by all the comments about how fresh these donuts are and how great they are. I'm sorry but they are average. We went in this morning and the whole side case was empty, the only donuts they had were these two trays that had a bunch of random donuts thrown on. They honestly looked like day old donuts and none seemed fresh. They weren't terrible but definitely not 5 star worthy.
google avatar

William Y.

Yelp
Great little family-owned donut shop! Their donuts are made fresh daily and taste wonderful! I've tried almost everything, and I would highly recommend their cakes and their muffins. The staff is really helpful and friendly. They close at noon though, and their donuts sell quickly so plan to come early if you have a specific donut in mind.
google avatar

Allyson V.

Yelp
Holy moly! Yelp, I have to admit you've been less reliable in general over the last few years, but Yelpers were 100% spot on regarding this place. Maybe the best raised donut in the North OC. Good job, Kenny's Donuts! I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Opens early in the morning at 4am to provide donuts poppin' fresh! Pretty cheap, $3.75 for a half dozen. I forget what the dozen costs, because a family of 2 doesn't need to be eating 12 donuts. Nor 6, for that matter, but hey. They close at 12:30pm though, because nobody in OC gets their donut on after lunch, I guess. These donuts rival Krispy Kreme and pwn Winchells. Damn, I'm using a lot of Internet slang lately. I must be spending too much time online. LOL, TTYL my BFFs.
google avatar

Lexi L.

Yelp
love Kenny's!!! I'd come here more often if I could. But my hubby is worry that I'm gonna get too big.... Their donuts are so perfect. So sweet and chewy inside just the way I like it. Come here early since they close in the afternoon.
google avatar

Yelp
So good, we wrote a song about it... During our Christmas trip home to So Cal, went with family to Kenny's donuts, they became the 'no brainer' choice for breakfast every day for the rest of the vacation. We wrote a song, "More than a donut" based on the 80's Boston song "More than a feeling". It's THAT good! Pros: Best glazed twists and 'catchers mitts' (bear claws) in US! Cons: Too far away from Florida!
google avatar

Yelp
Good place to come have coffee. Ladies are always nice. The only bad thing is that they don't always make too many of one kind specially bake breads and run out quick.

Dawn Z.

Yelp
We come here every week for the car show. Today as we walked in the lady asked us to move our cars. On principle we no longer we get a donut or coffee here ever again. We gave jack in the box our money today. Pennywise and pound foolish. I dont care how good your donuts are we will not give you our business and encourage anyone that comes with us to give their business to jack in the box. You kinda screwed up lady.
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwiches, croissants and chocolate bars around. Great donut spot with excellent customer service.
google avatar

Moe D.

Yelp
My new favorite donut shop. All of the classics, fresh and delicious. The egg and cheese sandwich was fantastic as well.

Michael L.

Yelp
Worse donut shop in the area. I would not recommend this place even if you are close by the area. There are other donut shops in the area that are freshly made and of better quality. The donuts here are terrible and they put little to no effort in making sure the glazes and the finished products deliver. To be honest, I never thought a "bad donut" could ever exist. But this place pretty much defines it as ironic as it may sound. Their glazed donuts are unevenly glazed. You will get a mouth full of glaze and then plain donut in the next. This goes for their donut holes as well. Some of them are OVERLY glazed and you will get a handful that are not even specked with any glaze... Terrible.. just terrible.
google avatar

Rachael D.

Yelp
These donuts are so delicious! My only complaint is that they're not open 24 hours. Totally recommend this place.

Kari L.

Yelp
Best donuts ever! Especially the old fashioned buttermilk! However, I'm taking away one star because it infuriates us that they charge fifty cents for using a debit card!!!
google avatar

Mikal L.

Yelp
I love Kenny's Donuts. My wife and I usually make our Saturday morning walk to Kenny's and pick up a crumb donut for me. The donuts are fresh and made the in the early morning. Its within walking distance so its easy for us to grab breakfast there. There service is great and always ready to service.

X. X.

Yelp
I think these donuts are great, unfortunately... I thought it was odd that this shop would always shake the box upside down before putting donuts in it but after today May 24, 2015 around 9:30am the guy didn't shake the box! I thought it was odd until I got home and found magets in the donut box!!! WON'T BE GOING BACK!!! IT'S A SHAME TOO!!!
google avatar

Chrissy P.

Yelp
We have lived up the street for years and never ventured to this fine gem til this year. I regret that we didn't because the food and service is excellent. This will definitely be a place we will be coming back to again and again.
google avatar

Savannah D.

Yelp
When I am in the neighborhood I will occasionally come by and buy my usual sugar donut because donuts aren't bad enough for you. Been going here for a loong time.
google avatar

Yeess G.

Yelp
Love Kennys Donuts! Best cup of coffee and freshest donuts. Ive been going here daily for years for my morning coffee. Gets me through the commute.
google avatar

Daisel L.

Yelp
I love the ham, egg and cheese croissants! They are better tasting breakfast sandwiches than those of the other local fast foot restaurants. They are affordable at less than $4 each and they are pretty big! I recommend arriving early in the morning to avoid them running out of croissants though.

Tammie Crystal F.

Yelp
Not a big donut eater, but whenver I have to have a jalepeno croissant, I wait to come here! Always fresh and ALWAYS SUPER FRIENDLY! and quick no matter how packed it is... again, only for a treat, but worth the wait when you have a craving.

john h.

Yelp
Bring all the rolaids you can find! I know donuts aren't health food. But this place you really need to avoid. I stopped in to break a twenty, what a mistake. Bought one donut. These donuts are toxic. They must use the cheapest, crappyest ingredients they can buy. If you value your health at all- don't eat here! Your better off eating at The "Jack in the Crack" right next to them. It looks like the owner was writing some of these reviews! As good as Crispy Cream-what a joke!
