The 11 Best Smashburgers In Seattle, Ranked

"Your Order: Burger ($6.00) Every Thursday at 11am, the deli counter at this Greenwood grocery store transforms into a burger joint, complete with griddle hisses and Maillard reaction smells wafting throughout the cereal aisle. And the smashburgers are a tour de force. Even after warming under a heat lamp, the lacy patty keeps its Butterfinger-like snap, shredded lettuce stays crisp, and yellow american fuses to the thousand island-y special sauce. If you want a just-seared one, try pretending to peruse the nearby wine displays until a new batch is ready." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley, gabe guarente

This is my favorite grocery store! Everything is always fresh, well-organized, and of the highest quality. The prices are more than fair for what you get. The store is always spotless, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to help. My favorite products are the honey and maple syrup. Highly recommend this place!

I absolutely love Ken’s! I wish they would have been able to hold on one more year in Wyoming because if they would have they would be booming with all the new apartments and builds! But this one is amazing just the same! great customer service great selection of produce as well as specialty products! Oh let’s not forget the bulk candy, salt water taffy is my favorite and with over 20 flavors you’re sure to find one you love too! The best local grocery store hands down!

Google
Plainfield store is a large store with good produce and more than you might expect in grocery's. Clean and interesting store with garden supplies as well. Friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of choices!

Google
First visit despite living in GR for 30 years. Was so impressed with the quality & value of produce for sale. Local produce options, reasonably priced and more items then I anticipated. The quality of produce has declined alarmingly at every other grocery store, I typically wind up throwing out many items after 3 days because they've spoiled/rotted when purchasing from Meijer. With the cost of groceries I thought I had to buy all frozen at this point. But Ken's stuff is fresh/not teetering on sell-by date so I can enjoy fresh seasonal fruits & vegetables without blowing my budget. Will definitely be back.

Google
This place is awesome! A real small business operated by locals. Theyre prices and quality on produce are the best around, lots of michigan grown products. I love the case prices on produce as well, it helps is eat well and save a ton on groceries. I always leave Ken’s with heavy bags and a heavy wallet!

Google
We like going to kens for the produce. The prices are great and I know when I get fruit and vegetables they won't be rotten or shrivled in 3 days. My husband also likes the hunter sticks.

Google
They always have a wonderful fresh selection of fruits and vegetables. Large dairy selection! Large meat counter with many wonderful selection. There is so many wonderful candy selection .They have the largest taffy selections I have found outside of Mackinaw city.

Google
Wonderful gem on the NE side of GR. Unlike the big box stores, you can actually find someone to help if you need to. Great variety of goods and a meat counter that is one of the best in town.

Yelp
Ken's Fruit Market is a grocery store that stocks local items and the Plainfield location has a large greenhouse/garden center. Nate and I stopped in after breakfast at Real Food Cafe recently and picked up some groceries and a hanging basket for my mom. The layout of the store is kind of strange and crowded, so it was difficult to maneuver the large cart at times. It took me a bit to find some items since this isn't my regular grocery store, but I was able to find 99% of the stuff on my list. I didn't see many employees around to ask for help finding things. The garden center was a similar situation with only one person who looked to be working there. I wasn't sure which hanging baskets were for sun vs. shade, but some were labeled. They had tons of flowers, vegetables, and other plants available for sale. I can't really comment on pricing since I'm not the plant person in my household, but I'd rather support a local business like Ken's over Lowe's or some other big box store.

Yelp
Nice little place to go if your in a hurry and don't want to deal with the crowds. They have a GREAT selection of fresh fruits and vegetables and a TON of candy selections. The place looks a little run down. Kind of reminds me of an outdoor food market. The only down side I really see except the prices are a little higher than other bigger stores. The staff that I have dealt with were very friendly. Now for the big warning about this place. They don't have candy bars at the checkouts. No, they have baked goods. How devious can they be. All in all. I enjoy going there for chocolate covered raisins and yes, baked goods at the checkout.

Yelp
First time shopping here this weekend since the pandemic/shut down. The fruit we purchased was so over priced and we came home to find over half the bag was rotten. $11 for two bags of grapes and they weren't edible. What a scam, definitely will not be returning here again.

Wolfskriegerr ..

Yelp
Good selection of meat, fruits, and veggies. They also carry my favorite milk from a glass jug that you can return and get a dollar back.

Yelp
This is just such a surprising place to shop for fresh food. They source a lot of stuff locally, and has a great selection of fruits, veggies and meats. They aren't a general goods store - so if you need laundry detergent or aspirin - you need to hit up somewhere else, but if you want the freshest foods around Grand Rapids this is where you go. The meat counter is especially superb, with knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Yelp
I enjoy going to Ken's on Plainfield. They have a good selection of produce. The store is not too large and I like that feeling when shopping there. I have purchased some of their meats from their full service meat department and have been happy with the quality and selection. The outside bedding plant area has even very good but was curtailed this year by GR Township. I hope they work something out soon or Ken's will be moving out of the township. I enjoy the employees there who are friendly and very helpful. Especially Al, who runs the plantings part of the store. A nice addition to the Plainfield corridor!

Yelp
They are not fancy, but the quality is good, and the selection is well beyond what you might expect from a small store. The staff is friendly and helpful. They re-modeled/re-built after a fire, and the layout is much improved from when they first moved in to this space. One of my preferred grocery stores on the northeast side.

Yelp
A pleasant place to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables year round. They try to provide as much local produce as possible. The brats and meats are much better than other big markets and are worth the trip alone.

Yelp
I understand the appeal of going to a non chain grocery store. It was much easier to get in and out quickly and it is nice to support local business....I run out at that point. Obviously the business is new but the location is not. That being said it looks like this place has been here so long it needs a renovation and that's not a good sign so soon after you open. The flooring is old so no matter how clean they are they look really dirty. They have a wall of Faygo and a ton of candy and other bulk items. The part that was huge bummer was when we got home and tried to eat the food. The corn had mold, the cucumbers had large holes inside them and the black berries were well past their prime. I can over look the black berries because if I had looked closer I would have noticed they were too old. The others looked fine in store until I opened them up. Bad news since those were the only fruits and veggies we got.

So many options, and very affordable! I will be doing my weekly grocery shopping here from now on!

Yelp
Just opened and getting organized. This is the same owners as the Alger Heights market. Great addition to NMorthtown.

Yelp
Great little store, many different items & decent prices. Long lines at the meat counter are a good sign. I just wandered through & found a few interesting treats for my nieces & nephews & for my treat jar at work. The bulk candy is awesome. A crazy wide variety of items, candy I haven't seen in years and fun stuff to! Check it out everyone!

Yelp
Great prices on produce and I love their selection of brats at the meat counter. Friendly staff help with the neighborhood grocer feel.

Yelp
I love this place! GREAT produce, bulk candy & nuts and their fresh Brats are out of this world! I now live in Lansing and can not get the Brats here anywhere ( jalapeno cheddar, mushroom & swiss, bacon & cheddar. It's a long drive, but I love them too much to pass up!

Yelp
We've recently discovered Ken's Fruit Market on Plainfield Av. in Grand Rapids... Wow, what a refreshing alternative to the big chain grocers in the Grand Rapids area who generally only carry national brands at expensive prices. The quality and freshness of the produce at Ken's was fantastic. We bought apples for $1.99/lb that actually tasted good and didn't turn brown and soft a few days after we got them home. For our Christmas meal we purchased a 6 rib (15 lb) prime rib roast for $7.75/lb, which was one of the best and tastiest rib roasts we've ever made. Also, we bought some ground beef and were pleasantly surprised that it was not injected full of water to increase the weight like ground beef found at other area groceries. Ken's doesn't carry everything the big stores do, but their selection of "local" products, quality, prices, and personal service can't be beat. Plus, you can park close to the door and get in and out quickly. Value, quality, and local products!! We'll be regular shoppers at Ken's from now on.

Yelp
Great place to stop in and get some quality goods without having to face the maddening crowds and acres of parking at the mothership hypermarket up the street. Good meat counter and decent produce selection, both locally sourced when possible/in season. It won't likely replace your regular grocery haul-they don't have any HBC or stuff like that, but it's great for getting what you need to get through the day. You should shop here every chance you get. We need locally owned places like this to thrive. The better they do the more of them there will be, which is a plus for everyone in the neighborhood.

Yelp
This place is so small town store I love it. Went in one day and the hummus I always get was gone, I asked about it and the manager apologized and suggested another one. When I came in the next time the young man remembered me and pointed out he now had my humus in stock. Plus the meat counter is amazing!

Joy H.

Yelp
They have the largest selection of candies, dried fruits, nuts, pickles, jams, etc. I think I have ever seen. They also have a nice selection of flavored coffees, with the option of buying pre-ground or whole bean. Prices are a little high to do all the grocery shopping here, but check their weekly ads, especially for produce specials.

Michelle C.

Yelp
Great place to run in and get good veggies, fruits and meats. The candy is fun, too. Everything we've had here has been top notch. Another plus--I asked to have the potato salad split into a smaller container and they did so, quite cheerfully I might add. This is old town shopping from the 'good old days'!!

Yelp
The meat is the best, after that it goes downhill. Gala apples were old looking and nicked and bruised. Roasted salted peanuts were stale. Milk was close dated. Only the cashier spoke to me. Not impressed.

Darin L.

Yelp
The casings on their brats, sausage, kielbasa fall off when cooking then the meat falls apart and busts open. They need to use PROPER casings. The store was dirty last time I went. I won't be going back. I know of much better places.

Debbie B.

Yelp
We've gone to Ken's Fruit Market several times now. Each time, the produce was absolutely excellent. The corn on the cob was the best that we've ever eaten. The tomatoes are yummy. We've gone back several times for the shish-ka-bobs. Their fruit is blemish free and of excellent flavor. We've also bought nuts and other food. Our transactions were easy, the displays are easy to get to and very neat. I highly recommend Ken's Fruit Market. Their prices are also great.

Yelp
I stop every week at this great little store. You can't beat the meat. It is fresh and healthy, free of antibiotics and other stuff you don't want in your body. Try the chicken breasts at a great price. I can pick up really nice produce, and they stock high quality dairy and refrigerated foods. It's hard to pass by the dark chocolate-coated nuts and the mini pies up by the counter are perfect for a quick treat. The people are very nice and helpful.

Cheryl R.

Yelp
This place is my go-to for anything fresh. If there's a problem with the produce, they will make it right immediately. I've never had anything be less than exceptional for quality, flavor and price. I like that you can buy as much or as little as you want. Everything isn't sealed in prepackaged plastic. And there is no where else to buy garden seedlings; beautifully fresh, sturdy and inexpensive. I didn't even mind replanting when my garden was done in by a late freeze last year because the prices are so good.
