"Located in the same boutique hotel as Kodō, this daytime spot in the Arts District is ideal if you happen to be having a breakfast meeting with an influencer. Everything about the interior space is jaw-dropping, from the wide, smooth cement walls to the tree growing in the middle of the dining area (it'll make you feel like you're in a serene tea garden). They only serve a short menu of drinks like a black sesame cappuccino and some pastries in the morning, but after 11am, you’ll find casual Japanese dishes like cold soba, nigiri, or a tsukune sauerkraut sandwich." - jess basser sanders, brant cox, nikko duren
"I’ve been a massive fan of Kensho since they opened last year on the grounds of Yamashiro in Hollywood. And now, I’ve grown to appreciate this outdoor Japanese wine bar even more. With only a handful of tables, Kensho’s patio overlooking the hills of Hollywood can be full and you’ll still feel like you have the place to yourself. You’ll drink too much wine, snack on delicious yakitori and perilla bowls, listen to music, and watch the sun slowly set over the city. If you’re not eating on patios right now, that’s certainly understandable, but if you’re thinking of trying one out, I can’t think of a more inviting option than Kensho." - brant cox
"Located on the grounds of Yamashiro, in what can only be described as “a boulder,” Kensho is a tiny Japanese restaurant and sake bar that will make you look more like a put-together, Young Person of Taste, and less like a person who just cut open an empty tube of toothpaste in an effort to save money. And although Kensho is great at night, we almost like it more on weekend mornings, when you can really immerse yourself in the views of the Hollywood Hills and the excellent Japanese dishes they’re making that day." - jess basser sanders, brant cox, kat hong, brett keating
"This might be your first time visiting LA, but that doesn’t mean you have to act like a tourist. Located on top of a hill overlooking Hollywood, you won’t find Kensho on any hotel brochures or LA travel lists, and that’s exactly why you need to come here. This casual Japanese wine and sake bar has fantastic views (get there before the sun goes down to see the Hollywood sign), a great front patio for lounging around with your friends, and excellent food if you end up getting hungry." - brant cox
