Kerbey Lane Cafe’s New Healthy Restaurant High Note Opens in Zilker | Eater Austin

"I view Kerbey Lane Cafe as Austin's favorite all-hours diner chain: it first opened on May 5, 1980, serving made-from-scratch comfort food out of a small house on Kerbey Lane, remains 100% family-owned, and continues to stay true to its original values. The group is behind the new High Note concept and says it's still working on opening a long-awaited West Braker Lane location in Westlake." - Nadia Chaudhury

Kerbey Lane is a staple in the Austin culinary scene for decades. This atmosphere at this location feels generic, lacking the character and quirkiness of the original location. What you get in return is a large parking lot and no headaches trying to find a place to park. The food is excellent and comforting. The Chef’s Specials offer unique and interesting flavors. The service was great.

Kerbey Lane Café is an absolute gem, serving up some of the most delicious comfort food with a fresh and flavorful twist. On my recent visit, I was blown away by three standout items: the Matcha Latte, Kerbey Queso, and Blueberry Pancake. The Matcha Latte was pure perfection. Smooth, rich, and just the right balance of earthy matcha and creamy sweetness, it was both energizing and indulgent. Unlike other matcha drinks that can be overpowering or too sweet, this one was expertly crafted, making every sip a delight. Next came the legendary Kerbey Queso, and let me just say--it lives up to the hype. Velvety, cheesy goodness with just the right kick, this queso is dangerously addictive. Paired with their perfectly crisp tortilla chips, it's the kind of appetizer you dream about long after you've left the restaurant. And then, the grand finale: the Blueberry Pancakes. Fluffy, buttery, and bursting with fresh blueberries, these pancakes were an absolute showstopper. They had a perfect golden-brown crust with a melt-in-your-mouth texture, and with a drizzle of syrup, they were nothing short of heavenly. Beyond the incredible food, the service was outstanding--warm, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. The staff made sure everything was just right, offering great recommendations and making us feel truly welcome. The ambiance was just as inviting, with a laid-back, cozy vibe that perfectly captures the heart and soul of Austin. Whether you're stopping by for brunch, a late-night snack, or anything in between, Kerbey Lane Café delivers on all fronts. Fantastic food, top-notch service, and a welcoming atmosphere--this place is a must-visit!

Avoid. They are lost. Half of the tables were occupied for lunch. A bad sign. 52 minutes from order to food and a second round of drinks. They got two of three orders wrong, and the third was congealed. Manager wouldn't even come out. Six months from now they'll be boarded up. Wonder what's next?

I've been here a few times, and the food is okay, not as good as the original location on Kerbey Lane. The eggs are pretty average and I haven't gotten them again. The one item at this location that surpassed my expectations was the Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes! They tasted just like cinnamon rolls in pancake form, and the glaze was absolutely delicious. I never would have expected something that good to come out of KLC Westlake! I also ordered the gingerbread and buttermilk pancakes, which were average. Overall, this location reminds me of average diner food.

TLDR: allergies ignored, could have been hospitalized x3. If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm not one to write reviews, but when it comes to this afternoons experience, I need to say something. I ordered a gluten free chicken sandwich, with no cheese, the vegan queso and a burger (regular) to-go. I asked if the regular vegan queso was different from the credo cashew queso since they were listed separately on the menu and i have a severe cashew allergy, i was told yes, the regular vegan queso does not contain cashews. The food was brought out after about 45 minutes, which at 3pm on a Saturday with an almost empty restaraunt, was already frustrating. After checking the food, I saw that my chicken sandwich had a gluten free bun, but the chicken was breaded. I brought it up to the counter and asked for it to be corrected, and no one seemed to care much. After waiting another 20 minutes, they brought me my chicken sandwich, which im glad I checked again before leaving. This time it was grilled, with a gluten free bun, but had cheese. At this point I wasnt hungry as it had been at least an hour and half, and I was frustrated. The meal was comped, which I am appreciative of. Once getting home, I went to try the queso. As I was about to take a bite, I realized it smelled like cashew cheese, and not like the vegan queso i had gotten there before. I stopped and called the restaraunt and asked AGAIN if the regular vegan queso contained cashews, mentioning again my severe allergy. The man that answered the phone stated that YES the regular vegan queso is the same as the cashew queso even though they are separate items on the menu even though i had been told in person while ordering they are different. I no longer felt comfortable eating anything else from there, as I couldn't trust the information I was given. I was given gluten, dairy and cashews after stating that I have allergies and ordered items that were noted on the gluten free/vegan menu. I could have been hospitalized. This is ridiculous. I am not seeing any response from the restaraunt/company as I will not be returning. I just want to warn others of the risks and danger when they advertise and promote allergen friendly foods.
