"Another branch of the Keros family tree, Kerby’s Koney Island was founded by four Keros brothers, who opened their first location in 1968 at the Tel-Twelve Mall in Southfield. The name Kerby’s derives from the Keros Brothers. The menu at this chain offers a little something for everyone with the classic coney and Greek fare, as well as breakfast, burgers, soups, and salads." - Serena Maria Daniels

Google
Loved it!! Huge servings n we ordered 3 meals. Split them up between us, my husband, son n I swapped out different foods from our plates based on what everyone liked. After all that we still took home a whole meal with what was left. Prices were great. Will be back.

It's been a while since I've been here. Service was fast and good. I ordered a BLT w/ Onions and light Mayo. This is what I got... Greasy Bacon and dots of mayo. Everything else was fresh.. no complaints. Great Bacon makes the sandwich worth coming back for.

Been going here for years. The food is always good and the service is excellent. I do call in orders, as well as dine in. To top it off, the price is right. Today, I saw a team working together. This is the kind of business that is good for Southfield. Keep up the good work Kerby’s on Northwestern.

I have not been here in a long time. My food was delicious and the service was great. This restaurant gets a thumbs up.

Google
Visiting my hometown and wanted some coney. The restaurant is dated which also appears as unclean. The waitress, although sweet didn't get our order right 😒 And out food was mediocre Not too happy I chose that coney to relive my Detroit days

Google
I had the gyro skillet. It was so so good! Its super laid back and really friendly staff. I enjoy it every time I go

We went home to Detroit for a visit and I had to get a coney dog, but I was a little disappointed due to my hotdogs being cold 🥶. The chille was great. We have eaten here plenty of times and never had a issue so I will chalk it up to a bad day.

Google
So this is a photo of the empty table in front of me because I was ignored by all of the servers in the restaurant today. These young ladies have absolutely no idea of what customer service looks like. I literally sat in my seat for 20 minutes just to see how long it would take for someone to see if I had been served and this is after several servers walked past me while waiting to be seated. I wanted to order food, I wish I could have taken a photo of a plate of food but no, it is an empty table. I am now going to walk out and go somewhere else. Thank you for no service at all I mean, literally no service. (Not an angry statement, just a literal true statement)

Yelp
Kerby's is a sentimental favorite. They have been around for decades and it's always a positive experience. Friendly service and kind people. The food is consistent. Their Coney dogs are very good. They use natural casing Hot Dogs, so you get that snap with each bite. I am very impressed with their fried fish! The cod is perfection! Crispy on the outside and flakey on the inside. My fish sandwich had a large, thick piece of lettuce on the bun, which prevented the oils from the fish making the bun soggy. I really appreciated that. Very well thought out. Pickles, tomatoes, and tartar sauce come on the side. I also ordered extra pieces of fish. They have a broad menu and you can get salads, burgers, sandwiches and more. Breakfast anytime too. Indoor dining available and carry out.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years! The owner is very nice and the food is good. A few favs of mine are the bacon chz burger n fries, grilled chicken sandwich, grilled chicken pita and of course CONEYS!!! The servers know me! So if you stop in ask for Tia, BJ or Shannon! Great ladies and great service! The ambiance is Coney Island, a family restaurant! Stop by and tell them I sent you!

Yelp
In case you were wondering, I'm not actually trying to average a Coney per day even if it looks that way. But when there are 99¢ Coneys to be had through the month of July at any Kerby's Koney Island, it does become like a challenge to me. And that's not withstanding that someone declared July as National Hot Dog Month! So between the 1/4lb Hot Dog and Drink Deal for $1.50 at a large Warehouse Club...OK, it's Costco...and 99¢ Coneys, how could anyone go hungry...in July in Detroit...or anywhere with a Costco all year around. But hey, what do I know. I called and ordered five Coneys for take out and was told it would be ready in five minutes, one for each apparently! This was perfect because I had just parked in their lot and after three minutes I walked in and the friendly staff were just putting them in a bag for me. I returned to the car and proceeded to eat, actually I shared with my wife in a 3/2 split, getting older, you see! We ate them so fast that I forgot to take any pictures! So I'm reposting a picture of the five I ordered and ate from another Kerby's since they all looked and tasted the same. Chili, Mustard, and Onions-the classics! There's still some July left so get out there and do your part while you still can or you'll be out of luck until next year!

Yelp
Was here on 4-20-2023 to celebrate our nephew's birthday. Pretty standard Coney. I use wheelchair and we sat in the back. Food was fine, nothing special.

Daniel G.

Yelp
Went for breakfast on way back from airport..Ordered eggs over medium ang sausage hash browns, toast.Eggs overcooked sent back, came back overcooked the sausage was do hard couldn't cut with a fork. The terrible manager came out out and said you need to use a knife.I said I was not paying for whole breakfast and had police called on us.She was rude and being someone that was in the industry, does not belong in it.

A R.

Yelp
at the Brighton, MI location: waitress was rude: mean looks, rude comments, jerking the food away and slamming it down. acting very annoyed when she had to "do her job". food was old ! using old products!!! the place was dirty and gross!

Erika L.

Yelp
Fries tasted horrible. No ketchup as I asked for online. And drink is a kids small for $3.99. Ridiculous. I always stop here when I'm in town. I'll never come back.

Carolyn E.

Yelp
This is the best Coney in the area; too bad it's not open late! Everything from breakfast to soup to salads and Coney dogs is all delicious and fresh with big portion sizes. It's packed most of the time. I love the Kerby melt and all of their salads are huge and yummy. You can't go wrong here; I've been coming for 15 years.

Ted J.

Yelp
It's a decent place. The good staff is very good. The bad staff is not so good. Food is good but check your order before you leave. I ordered eggs over hard, but got eggs over lightly. I was too far away to fix it, but my wife loved them The service is pretty fast and the pancakes are good

Dee D.

Yelp
Cheap fast and good. Coneys were on special for .99 which was great for me. A lot of people ordered breakfast platters and waffles, this place kind of reminds you of a bigger Waffle House but with more food options.

Marc C.

Yelp
One of the many Coney Island spots in the Detroit area but this one has great breakfast. Located in between several hotels in Southfield, it's perfectly located to grab breakfast or get a couple of quick coneys for lunch. Service was quick and friendly. I'll be back.

Bruce K.

Yelp
Great and filling breakfast with a platter of hash browns that was enough for a squad of hungry Marines. I cut two thirds of it and set it to the side. Three eggs? And three sausages? Jeez, I'm going to be the size of a house. The eggs were nicely poached as ordered and the rye toast did a great job of sucking up the yolks. Very inexpensive. Even with coffee and tip, $10. The only downside? Ten minutes one of the staffers loudly talking to a customer about her weekend. And both laughing too loud.

Kari E.

Yelp
My trips to Detroit are few and far between, but husband likes to stop in and get his favorites while we're here. This morning (after a late night at Motor City casino), I was so torn between (another) Coney, gyro or breakfast so I went with the Greek skillet. Oh lord, this was the best thing I've eaten in a week - heck - maybe even a month. Everything was perfects - fluffy eggs, crispy gyro meat, fresh veggies and salty, melty feta. Good god. And that's before you even get to the hangover curing hash browns. Service was quick and great (also noted in my last review - good job Kerby's!) Yay!

B W.

Yelp
Great little restaurant. Usually carry out order of Yeros. One with meat only & the other with everything! I remember when they had $0.99 coney dogs, but inflation - $1.99 now. But, they have 2 for $2.99 on Tuesdays. Gonna have to get there on a Tuesday!!! Always good friendly service.

Toni R.

Yelp
I had some of the best service here. The staff were very friendly and attentive to my family. We ate here for dinner and then breakfast because the food and service were so great!

Anna S.

Yelp
Quarantine Carry-out review! (I semi-regularly get carry-out breakfast from this location when I'm working in the office, and have never had an issue with food quality, so the issues I will describe are likely due to lower customer volume related to COVID-19) My husband and I took advantage of the $.99 coney deal and did carry out this last weekend. While aspects of it hit the spot in terms of some restaurant food withdrawals, ultimately every item we ordered was terrible. Firstly, the restaurant was very well set-up for COVID-19 restrictions - much appreciation there, and the cashier was donning a mask and gloves. A+ for COVID-19 changes. The sad part - we ordered 6 coneys (because we're fat and wanted leftovers, okay?), 2 orders of fries and a large Greek salad - and every item had an issue. The actual hot dog part of the coneys were old - like, had stuck-on/crustified griddle "stuff" on the dogs as though they sat on the griddle all day waiting for an order; I had to pick some off. There were also some ugly, not-really-parts-you-want-to-eat pieces of onion on all of the coneys. Both orders of fries were almost raw - barely fried, still had that raw french fry flavor. The Greek salad was lovely looking...but the chick peas were borderline rotted. They were greenish-tan, had a questionable texture, and I picked them off. The best part is that the pita for the salad was packaged in a styro coney container, so we actually got shorted one coney because one of the six coney containers was actually a pita. Did we eat most of it? Yes. Was it decent? Sort of. Was it worth everything related to COVID-19 and the 30% tip I gave to the cashier? I'm not sure. I don't think I'll be back to this location during lock down, but I will likely resume breakfast carry outs when I go back to working in the office and they're back on their game.

Yelp
My wife and I came to Kerby's for their breakfast and had a lovely meal. We were quickly seated, and our waitress was at our table almost immediately upon being seated. She took our drink order and said, "Be right back," and that wasn't an exaggeration. Within 30 seconds, we both had our waters and coffee. Without prompting, she said "I'll give y'all some time to look at the menu" and walked away. I appreciated this because usually, I have to ask for a few minutes to look. My wife decided on pancakes, and I decided on an omelet. When our waitress returned, we ordered and had our food in less than ten minutes. My omelet was filling, and it sat nicely on my body. My wife liked her pancakes and said that they used a good batter. Our waitress checked on us several times to make sure everything was ok. We enjoyed "people watching" as the clientele that visits this location is pretty varied, and it was fun to watch them interact with the waitresses. All in all, we were out the door for less than $20, including a tip. It was an excellent experience, and we'll be back for sure.

Laura M.

Yelp
Food was good, but it was ruined by the lack of air conditioning in the restaurant. It was a hot day outside and we came in expecting to have lunch in an air conditioned environment but were very disappointed to be sweating inside too. Other tables were also unhappy with the temperature and I really felt for the employees running around in the heat.

Tyler M.

Yelp
Just waiting for the food poisoning to kick in. I felt gross the minute I walked in. CLEAN YOUR RESTAURANT. Waitstaff was really sweet and pleasant, but I had to watch them get yelled at and belittled by their manager. I doubt the manager will ever read this because they clearly do not care. And how do you mess up a coney?

Terreece M.

Yelp
I ordered the simplest thing on the menu and the delivery as well as atmosphere was not very customer friendly. To start the cashier was rude and no one is greeted at the door. The Waitresses and hostesses were standing around just talking. Once an extremely overwhelmed and overworked cashier got off the phone she rudely asked me what I had and gave me my food. The point here is it's not what you say it's how you say it and just a little acknowledgment and respect would have went far

Robin C.

Yelp
The staff is rude!!!! The you lady that answers the phone has to have the worse attitude I have ever had to deal with and all I said was "hello"!!! Never again!

D N.

Yelp
You have to tell them NOT to cut your burgers. Had to drive back up there to get a remade burger for my adult male boss because they cut his burger without permission like he's a kid. Usually never have issues with this place but this was different. While waiting for my order one of the female employees with lime green nails is walking around saying "Male strippers are gay!" I swear I couldn't make this up..so offensive and unprofessional.

Dianne C.

Yelp
I stopped in to pick up a quick carry-out. The service was friendly and quick. Although I just had a bagel and bacon, the food was prepared perfectly. I will return when I am in the area in the future.

J L.

Yelp
August '20 Beware! Tall thin Cook talking the entire time I was in the restaurant but with his mask below his chin, with nose and mouth exposed, breathing and whatever else on the food he was preparing for people to pick-up!

Billy L.

Yelp
Although this was a typical Coney Island breakfast - I really do enjoy Coney Island breakfasts! This Kerby's Coney Island had a very good breakfast. Service was great, the waitress was efficient and timely and our omelettes were delicious. I met my son for breakfast and although this wasn't our first choice because there was an IHOP nearby that had quite a long wait, we ended up going to this Kerby's Coney Island and really enjoying the breakfast.

Barb L.

Yelp
I got a takeout order. The napkins smelled liked insect spray. The bacon tasted like it was washed in detergent. I have eaten inside several times never had a problem. Which is why I gave 2 stars. Will not ever go back. If they can't insure the food is just as good for takeout, how long before eating inside takes a nose dive. Serving customers napkins that have not been protected from insect spray is unforgivable. Bacon tasting like detergent? Again, unforgivable!

George V.

Yelp
It's... OK. It's nothing great; this is simply your average american diner in a rather innocuous spot that's nothing special. You'll get the food that you order, and it'll be average. It won't be screwed up, but it won't be particularly good, either. It's better than cafeteria food, but I'd choose a lot of other places over Kerby's. Atmosphere is loud if it's crowded. It's average completely open dining room with no noise treatments at all, so if a table is being loud everyone knows it. Service is friendly if you treat them like human beings. (Always the way to go!) Not the worst, definitely not the best, just middle of the road.

Jassmine N.

Yelp
I treated my family to breakfast at Kerby's Coney Island a few weeks ago. I choose Kerby's Coney Island because they were close in proximity to where I wanted to go, and to top it off, they offer quick service and affordable options. Arriving at Kerby's Coney Island, there is ample amount of parking available. You will never have to drive around aimlessly looking for a parking spot. There is extra space located in the back of the establishment, if parking in the front is full. Upon entering the restaurant, there is always a friendly face to greet you. You will need to wait to be seated, however the wait is literally seconds. My husband enjoys their breakfast skillets. The skillet is comprised of layers of yummy goodness. They add hash browns to the bottom of the skillet, then top it with meat (and or veggies), finally they place an egg on top, cooked to order. His favorite skillet has; ham, sausage and bacon. I've had one in the past and they are good. My husband prefers his eggs scrambled, while I'll enjoy mines over medium...I really love it when the yolk is runny! This time around, I enjoyed their blueberry french toast, lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar...and boy were they good! Great recommendation when you just want to eat traditional favorites and not spend a lot.

Torrie M.

Yelp
I love a good Koney island. Greek Salads, chili fries, it's part of what makes us true Michiganders! At Kerby's, you'll get all of your Koney favorites at a great price. The only down side about this location can be the crowds. Lunch time is very busy and your often corralled to your seat like cattle. Aside from the crowds, I'll eat a greek salad here any day! Gotta love the dressing! In fact, you can purchase it!

Michael G.

Yelp
I like to stop by and eat here from time to time the food is usually good and the staff is friendly well today all hell broke out the waitress didn't bring me a bill then when. Went to the cashier she overcharged me on a $9.75 chicken wrap combo the number 5, $17.00 when I said that was too much she charged me $13.00 I didn't feel like arguing and left it's safe to say I won't be going there again.

Janice T.

Yelp
Terrible service and food. The waitress couldn't get my order right and when my food came out,the chicken tenders we're greasy and looked like they had been sitting in the window for awhile. She didn't come back to see if I needed anything. I left her a tip because I know they don't make much money, but I WON'T BE GOING BACK.

Michael M.

Yelp
Can't follow simple orders at the drive through. Order not correct, no sauces, no napkins, no straw.

P T.

Yelp
I ordered a egg white omelet with turkey, spinach and feta cheese ONLY. I am deathly allergic to onions so I make sure to ask and explain ONLY....well my omelet comes back with onions mixed in the spinach. The manager explains after-the-fact that the spinach isn't fresh & is a mixture! They remade the omelet and then messed up my hashbrowns. The manager never offered anything besides 'I'm sorry, you're right.' We left quickly because we felt uncomfortable due to the place getting crowded and they were not adhering 100% to social distancing mandates....I advise against this place period!

Yolanda S.

Yelp
This place has ROACHES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to their bathroom and saw two!!! I would have to be eating with my family and one crawls on us or in my purse!! Even worst are they in the kitchen or in the food!!! Please don't eat here. I asked to speak with the manager and they said one minute and 5 minutes later they said he wasn't there. I will be contacting the health department

Denise D.

Yelp
All I wanted was a scrambled egg sandwich and the cook clearly doesn't have culinary knowledge! I usually get this sandwich most Saturday morning while I'm starting my work day. The other cooks there gets it right. Not this low level cook.

B W.

Yelp
Wowzer!!! We go there a lot for gyro sandwiches or dine in. Wife only wants her gyro - meat only and they always accommodate her - they seem to give a little extra meat. This month, July, is coney month for $0.99 coney dogs!! So chow down!! Still the best value in Southfield - great place!!

Anthony B.

Yelp
Great fast coney island. Love the 2 coneys for $2.99. For February they have the $3.99 gyros, at this location it was huge, tons of meat.

Ebony V.

Yelp
I was in town visiting family and we decided to go here to eat. Unfortunately, only 1 of our 3 tables actually received food. My table and our kids table waited for 15-20 minutes and then finally had to go to the counter to ask to be served. When the servers did come to take our orders, they were rude and then we waited another 10-15 minutes for our drinks. 1 server finally returned with 1 drink and roughly set it in front of my husband. We then waited another 5-10 minutes before realizing our children did not even have their drinks. We gave up and left. We ended up going down the road to Leo's Coney Island and received excellent service.

Rebecca W.

Yelp
I just ordered a quart of chili that had obviously been watered down. The consistency and taste was far from the normal. Bland, water and the color was off. I really hope my stomach doesn't hurt. I don't like when companies skimp on their loyal customers.

Thomas H.

Yelp
A waitress here once told me I had beautiful eyes. What is there to hate? If you go at lunch time during the week, get a table in the back room near the left corner so you can watch the awesome old guys have their daily lunchtime meetings. It's like looking into my future.

Nella D.

Yelp
We ordered lunch for everyone at our office- like 8 people. The order was large and some had unique specifications. The woman who took my order over the phone was great (and I am kicking myself for not catching her name). I went and picked up the order and it was ready to go and the process was simple. I asked for an itemized receipt over the phone and when I got there, the receipt was already taped to the bag. We didn't check the order while there, due to lack of space, and we were pleasantly surprised when we got back to the office and there we no mistakes! Its unfortunate that as diners, we all tend to be pessimistic when placing pick up orders because the results are never perfect. I am pleased to say that my experience was perfect today and I appreciate the hard work and attention to detail from the employees at Kerby's on Northwestern Hwy in Southfield. Thank you so much!

Rob B.

Yelp
Kirby's is a staple in the Detroit Metro area for coney dogs (hotdogs w/chili and onions). This Kirby's is very good. The food & service is exceptional! Get the cheesy chili fries and a coney dog if you're in from out of town. Kudos!

Omeria W.

Yelp
Ok, so I had to calm myself before writing this review. Kerby Koney Island where do I began, how about once I walked into the establishment there was no one to even acknowledge you. First strike, I then stood at the carryout area until someone finally recognized me. This was the worst experience. I ordered chili fries, they added the nasty cheese sauce and I ordered a gyro the meat was so cold, like it had not been cooked with very little taziki sauce. The have truly lucked up a got a spot where some people have no option but to patronize them. Seeing all the other new eatery's in the area they need to step their game up!

Whitney B.

Yelp
I will never visit this Coney Island again and encourage others to do the same. Service is horrible. Visited this location twice. The first time, my order was prepared with meat when I asked for veggie and the second time I called in an order and was told I didn't call and was given very poor customer service. Not an offer to prepare my meal but an ol well attitude by the cashier. Do not give this place your money.

Clyde L.

Yelp
this koney is poorly run and has an awful manager. asked to wrap my chicken tenders to go in foil becuz last time I ordered this my chicken tenders melted to the styrofoam. I call to complain and the manager claims they don't have any foil in the whole place. ignorant. as well as telling me that he can't give me any credit refund or anything and refused to apologize. plus the food isn't even that good of quality.

Brian M.

Yelp
I frequent this Coney Island because it is not far from me, and I have never been disappointed when I went. The waitstaff is always attentive, prompt, and courteous, and I have never had any complaints about the food. Lately, I have become quite a fan of the Chicken Lemon Rice soup, which always seems to appear as the soup of the day. Their Coney Island Hot Dogs are always on point, though yesterday the onions were a bit more scant than I'm used to (not necessarily a bad thing, since I'm not the hugest fan of onions). I will say this as a warning to anyone who goes: if you order the 5-Way Fries, you will not have room left for anything else!

Renee P.

Yelp
no stars, the kitchen is old grease laden. Ask for a tour of the kitchen , a good restaurant will let you see the kitchen unless they're busy. Never eat here

Vic D.

Yelp
I remember this place as a Howard Johnson's back in the 1960s. As a Kerby's today, it's pretty much what you'd expect. Vinyl booths, pictures of metro Detroit landmarks (Bob-Lo dock, Olympia, Tiger Stadium, Ford assembly line, etc) on the walls, counter with backed stools. The menu? All the coney standards, priced as you'd expect, delivered quickly and with minimal fuss. You've been to places like this before. You'll go to places like this again. It's fast, it's cheap, it's filling.

Susan L.

Yelp
I attended a group meeting there, one night/month for about two years (until we moved away from Detroit in June). They allowed us to use their "party room" free-of-charge since we all ordered something. Usually I just ordered rice pudding - which was a huge & delicious serving, with whipped cream & cinnamon if desired, and they'd also heat it up if asked - for only $1.95! Occasionally, though, I ordered an egg-white vegetarian omelet (they serve breakfast at any time). They're not kidding when they say the omelets are made with three extra-large eggs, and the portion of accompanying hash browns was also quite substantial. It came with toast, too - and all that for only $5.45! Our regular server had a good sense of humor and she was very efficient with a large group.
