"A Winston-Salem staple since 1966, this spot serves up some of the city’s most legendary hot dogs. Ordering “all the way” means the classic combo of chili, slaw, mustard, and onions — a nostalgic bite of true hometown flavor. Housed in a former A&W Root Beer stand in Waughtown, it’s a piece of local history. The house specialty? A deep-fried fruit hand pie from local B&G Pies, served a la mode with soft-serve. Pro tip: For the best service, turn on your parking lights when you arrive, turn them off when you get your food, and turn them back on if you need anything — just don’t honk." - Nikki Miller-Ka

So good, from start to finish!! Staff was awesome, food was phenomenal and the nostalgia of simpler times truly a blessing to have this gem in the triad!

Never been and never going again. The parking lot was packed which you’d think was a good sign. The only good thing about this place was the tea and the wait staff. The onion rings were batter-fried mashed onions not whole onions. The hot dogs were just warm and they were ‘red’ hot dogs, yuck. Lord knows what the meat was. I read the owner is selling the business. I wonder why. 🤔 Dreary old run down building with limited seating.

Google
The hot dog with cole slaw, chili, onions, and mustard (Carolina-style) was delicious and one of the better versions of a fast food hot dog. However, the onion rings were nothing special.

The vibe is amazing here - It’s like stepping into a scene from a 70s movie. Very retro and simple, with large windows all around the building + a drive in area if you want to eat in your car. The staff was super friendly and down to earth as well. As for the food, it’s simple and affordable American grub. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, shakes, fries, etc. It honestly wasn’t too flavorful, but it was enjoyable and filling nonetheless. In other towns, many spots like this pride themselves on their secret chili recipe or burger seasonings, but I didn’t get that here. Just simple food with a great atmosphere.

I heard there selling the place This is GOOD NEWS. I hope who evers there next will be more respectful and appreciative of there customers today I went in and got my usual but on toast this time and someone im gonna say Caucasian.. because I found a blonde woman’s hair in mid second bite of my sandwich, I immediately called and made them aware the manage/owner informed me that they can’t seem to get my order right ( Previously they gave me the wrong order and was I guess angry they had to remake the item) , THEY DONT MIND IF I DONT COME THERE ANYMORE.. which is insane I didn’t want anything fixed or even a refund I just wanted them to acknowledge they’re issue and fix it a simple I’m sorry would’ve done but that response yeah you definitely lost a customer ! PLEASE next owners BE MORE RESPECTFUL TO YOUR CUSTOMERS

Google
Don't miss this place if you are in the area! We had the onion rings, fries, regular hotdog with onions, mustard, chili, slaw and relish. Also, we had the 1/4 hotdog with onions, mustard and chili. Drinks were fountain Pepsi and a vanilla milkshake. To finish it off we had the best darn banana pudding in the state! Great service + great food = we will make this a regular stop and you should too!

Google
Loved it. Best hotdogs this side of the Mississippi!!! The young lady that took my card to pay was the nicest person ever. She has been there for 10 years since she was 16.

Not the place I remember. The quality of the food has really suffered. It was still nice to see the original decor. However, there is something for everyone. Please give them a try.

Yelp
My parents were in town recently and although Winston has such a wide variety or food options, they are easy to please and just wanted a good old-fashioned hamburger or hotdog. I hadn't been to Kermit's yet but I'd heard great things, so we decided to give it a try together. As many others have mentioned, Kermit's is almost like stepping back in time with its old-school drive-in set up. If you'd rather not eat in your car, don't worry, you can opt to sit inside or at their outdoor picnic tables. It was a beautiful day, so we decided on eating outside. It was packed inside so they actually came out and took our order from there which was nice. Between all of us we ended up getting hotdogs and hamburgers with various toppings as well as fries and onion rings, which we all shared. Everything was delicious and exactly what we were looking for. We had such a nice experience there and left with smiles on our faces. They've already said we have to go back again the next time they visit.

Yelp
Some places you just go to from time to time because you always have, it seems. Kermit's is just such a place - my first visit was in the late 1980's, and little has changed in the almost 60 years they've been in business. I was in the area so I stopped in for a quick lunch - Hot Dog ($3.35) and a Cheeseburger ($4.70). The food was out quickly as usual. The hot dog is a very good Southern style dog. The wiener remains a neon red one, but loaded in a soft bun with plenty of mustard, chili, and chopped white onion, it works very well. The cheeseburger follows suit. It's a classic Southern diner burger - small, 3 ounces of a decent quality beef, nicely grilled, well topped with fresh tasting cheese, lettuce, and tomato. This remains solid fare, and the pricing remains very attractive. The WS area has some very good hot dog choices at value meal pricing - Kermit's at $3.35, PB's at $3.50, Pulliam's at $3.10, Dairio at $3.49, Real Q under $4, Wakemart at $2.69, Cook Out at $2.99, Hot Dog City has 2 dogs and a large soda for under $8. These are all good dogs, and Kermit's is right there. Ambiance - 2 Food - 4.5 Service - 4 Value - 4.5

Yelp
It has been many decades last time I had their dogs. Ordered the all the way hot dog with french fries and Cheerwine on the rocks. Service very good and got my order fairly fast. Dogs were good. They even still have curbside service! Owners are retiring where up for sale. So a cheap fast meal.

Yelp
I felt like a hot dog would hit the spot for a late lunch today, and that it did. I can tell this place gets busy as I took one of the last seats at the counter at around 1:15 on a Friday. I quickly received my footlong hot dog and onion rings. The footlong itself was great. I love a hot dog done all the way and this one satisfied my craving. Unlike other hot dogs I've had, I was surprised to notice that they buttered the bun, which really tasted delicious. The bun was also slightly toasted. Some must be bothered by the color of the weenies, but that doesn't seem to affect the flavor to me. I did feel like the weenie itself was thin, so I was glad I opted for the footlong. I wasn't a huge fan of the onion rings. The texture of them was just kinda strange to me, almost as if someone had minced up onion and frozen it into rings rather than slices of battered onion. They also left quite the aftertaste in my mouth. Maybe I'll opt for fries or ice cream next time. Overall, I'll definitely be back for these delicious dogs!

Yelp
I know many will swear by the pimiento cheese dog at Kermit's. And there's nothing wrong with that selection if it's your preference. But my order here is the fried bologna sandwich (I suggest asking the kitchen to let the slab of bologna burn a little more than they normally cook it, as a little char just makes it that much better) with lettuce, tomato, mustard and mayo on toast. Add cheese if you want, but mine doesn't need it. Occasionally I'll add a hot dog to the order also, but my preference for the hot dogs here is all the way. [I'm gonna break some hearts when I say this isn't my favorite hot dog in this area, but they're still not bad.] Kermit's is classic. It's as simple as that. From the moment you see it, you know exactly what you're getting. And that reliability is what's allowed the place to survive and thrive for years. Hard to say you've experienced Winston-Salem if you haven't ate a meal from here. Curb service is available during certain hours, and you'll find a few picnic tables available out under the canopy if you don't want to eat indoors, but inside you'll also find a row of seats at the counter and a sprinkling of diner booths. The interior is befitting of this restaurant's heritage and history.

Yelp
So I've been in the city for literally 14 years, but had never been to Kermit's! I wanted a hot dog, but not any of the ones the I've already had. I saw the reviews for this place and decided to give it a try. Listen, I wanted this hot dog awfully bad because I literally live on the opposite end of the city. I was super excited when I pulled up and saw that there was an old fashion drive-in option. I had my toddler with me so waiting for food inside would've been challenging. About 2 minutes after pulling up, a waitress came out. She greeted cars in order of arrival. Poor lady was the only one working the drive-in and was wearing a boot on her foot. She didn't seem to have any discomfort, but she was doing the best she could considering her circumstances. I ordered tonight's footlong combo special. It included fries and a drink for $8.99. The hot dog was perfect! It was an old fashion red hot dog. Just what I was craving!! The fries weren't the best and were fried a bit too hard. This is one of the reasons for 4 stars. The other was the fish sandwich. It tasted like a fish stick on bread. It tasted very frozen and the breading was super thick. The restaurant's location isn't in the most scenic place. It looks like they've taken care of the place very well. It has the same old nostalgia, but with fresh paint. The outdoor spaces were very clean. I look forward to taking my husband and trying a burger and a sweet treat or two.

Melissa L.

Yelp
The hotdogs are my favorite along with tots. They have a homemade spicy ranch sauce that pairs well with the tots. The staff is super sweet and it has the vibes of an old drive in.

Jake P.

Yelp
It's a legend around here and it lived up to the hype. Kermit's is a blast from the past no frills hotdog and burger type diner. The hotdogs and onion rings were both delicious! We enjoyed the vibe and retro signs and designs. The service was quick and kind. I'm going in for a burger next time!

Allison P.

Yelp
YES. We were looking for a unique spot on Memorial Day and Kermit's has been on our list for a while. GPS took us a super weird way to get there but we arrived to legit an old school drive in situation. The interior was small, but they do provide table service. There are signs about the famous pimento cheese so I ordered the pimento cheese dog, crinkle fries, and I don't ever turn down Cheerwine. The crinkle fries were absolutely perfect. I did want a bit more substance to the dog, but I love a red hot dog. I got a banana pudding to go, and it was okay. I need to return to try a cheeseburger, hot dog all the way, and hot fudge sundae. Photos of the outside of the restrooms-but I gotta admit I was a bit scared to go inside. But I'll absolutely return!

Waldemar G.

Yelp
Great old school drive-in one of the best red dogs u can get in Winston , just know the hotdogs are pork and beef mix in case someone of u don't eat one or the other service was great, food is good

Kerry G.

Yelp
Kermit's gets five stars not because it's a great hot dog, not for nostalgia and not it's charm. Kermit's gets five stars because it has stayed true to itself. Most drive in style restaurants gave up years ago. They either sold out or tried to modernize. Not Kermit's. They are the same drive in hot dog, hamburger place it's always been. In Winston-Salem there has been a hot dog war that seems to have been waging for decades. Everyone has their favorite. Some folks say Kermit's, some say PB's and others say Pullium's. I am on a personal quest to figure out which one it should be. I will eat hot dogs from all three of these hot dog masters and one day, before I die I may make up my mind. Until then I will keep sampling and reviewing.

Angela O.

Yelp
To be fair it has been an extensive amount of time since I've visited this establishment. As a young girl they had some awesome hot dogs. You can sit outside and enjoy the view. My resent visit was about 4 years ago. The food didn't have a good taste. The hotdogs tasted water logged. The staff was super friendly the service was fast. I guess sometimes our taste buds change. They have been in this spot for a super long time. Hopefully the hotdogs are back on point. You try them and be the judge.

Trivia F.

Yelp
Always family friendly and packed no matter the time of day. I grew up off of Kermit's so when I come home for a visit Kermit's is always on the list. Simple ingredients done right hot and fresh to order. It's family owned and operated by locals so it's always a friendly and warm environment.

Lindsay B.

Yelp
I love Kermit's! The atmosphere and just complete nostalgia of walking into a business that has been open almost 60 years is such an experience! They serve up old fashioned red hot dogs the southern way - with mustard, slaw, chili and onions. You HAVE to get a pimento cheese dog because it will totally knock your socks off! I also love their crispy tater tots and old fashioned smash burgers. The way the cheese melts into the hamburger combined with the finely chopped onions creates the most decadent bite. We got a milkshake to go and don't forget the B&G pies! The ladies that work in here are so down to earth and friendly. Kermit's is a must stop in Winston.

David Y.

Yelp
Charming, nostalgic place with an efficient process and very welcoming staff. That's the good part and perhaps that's enough for you. But for me, I wanted good food also, and in this case at least, the food was just OK. The overpriced tater tots were equally overcooked. Should have gotten the fries. The hot dog was a mess and the bun mushy. I've had better at little league fields, not to mention other local hot dog places like PB's in Winston-Salem. Not sure if this was an off day for Kermit's or if par for the course. I will try again to see and update review if necessary.

Kelley J.

Yelp
Kermits Hot Dogs is a tradition before going to watch a race at Bowman Gray. This night we drove in from Greensboro just for excellent hotdogs and great, friendly service. I highly recommend the Cheddar Cheese Hotdog or anything with chili on it. But look, it's messy.. it's wrapped in deli paper and it's messy. Deal.. if you're a pretty prince or princess and can't deal then you're gonna miss a great dog... but hey... that's on you. The crew are great, sweet and deserve great tips!

Chelsea R.

Yelp
If you're wanting a delicious hot dog then this is the place for you! I've been here a few times just because the hot dogs are delicious but also remind me of my childhood and going to get a messy hot dog with my parents growing up. Love Kermit's!

Elexis D.

Yelp
This is the classic small drive in of the past. The waitress even comes to your car after 4:30 to take your order on a pad. They take cash or card, in case you were wondering. Now down to business, I ordered a fish sandwich, onion rings a a cup of vanilla soft serve. My little one ordered a BLT and a strawberry sundae. It was all hot, freshly made and handed to me with a big smile.

IBRAHIM T.

Yelp
Had the super beef hot dog loaded and it was absolutely delicious! The fries were crispy and full of flavor. Will be back, for sure!

Daniel P.

Yelp
up in W-S for the afternoon and looking forward to sampling the local fare and a drive-in seemed just the thing during the plague except the signage indicated curb service started at 4:00 (which I later found to be in error) so I went inside and was studiously ignored as a parade of diners and servers carried off meals until I was left standing alone... I went out to my car feeling a bit put off and as I finished collecting my thoughts I was asked if I wanted anything. yeah, maybe, about fifteen or twenty minutes ago... I get that it's plague and most of us are operating in unknown territory but this is a drive-in and curb service is supposed to be the norm so no passes today :-(

Yelp
Kermit's Hot Dog House in Winston-Salem is the epitome of a vanishing American institution known as the drive-in restaurant. It is a shame we see less of these establishments, whether it be the public's changing tastes, a new landscape of culinary establishments, or whatever reason for "progress," these icons of another age seem to be on a crash collision course with extinction. Kermit's Hot Dog House is a great example of why we should hope for the preservation of this uniquely American dining experience. Good food at a great price point served by smiling servers and they still offer car service (only after 4:00 pm). Since Kermit (or whoever is the voice of control) calls his establishment a "Hot Dog House," I had to go with a hot dog. Unlike many North Carolina places offering hot dogs, Kermit's offer a pork beef blend instead of a poultry based dog, enhancing the hot dog experience a thousand fold. I don't care how good the toppings are, if it's a cheap hot dog, it will ruin the experience. This hot dog was a great lunch choice, the dog was good, as was the chili and onions. I had them hold the coleslaw. While chili and coleslaw are popular in the Carolinas, it never truly worked for me. All in all, a good experience.

Fox E.

Yelp
If you needed a license to eat here, it'd be Permits. If they cured skin disease, it'd be Dermits. And if they could get you knocked up like my hot dog can, it'd be Spermits. Thankfully, it's not. This is a very friendly little hot dog place serving Carolina style hot dogs full of coleslaw, and both their burgers and dogs are impressive and dirt cheap, and they will serve you close to closing time. The service was second to none and the guy even photobombed me, which I always appreciate because it makes Yelp pix so much more enjoyable. I've yet to have a great meal in Winston-Salem ever, and even Greensboro is lacking too, just down the road, but this hot dog shack is great, and by local standards it's uber-great - so I definitely have to give this place five stars without any doubt. And if you never come here because you never leave the house, then you should probably go to Hermits instead. Except you can't. Because you never leave the freaking house, do you.

Vicki J.

Yelp
Kermit's is the absolute BEST hotdog ever. I live in Florida now but while up visiting family we had lunch there on the way to the airport and I got six to go, put them in an insulated bag and took them on the plane. That was one way to insure my kids picked me up on time. They love them too.

Chrissy A.

Yelp
This was my first trip to Kermit's, but definitely won't be the last. There's no question as to why Kermit's is on every "Best Hot Dogs of NC" list! I have tried several other dogs on those "Best Of" lists, and this is my overall favorite. They use a classic red weenie and the chili has a very slight sweetness. We sampled several items, but I recommend sticking to dogs and sides. The fries and tots were wonderfully crispy with the perfect amount of salt. I love that they haven't tried to modernize the aesthetic. They're currently offering carry-out and carhop service. Do yourself a favor and stop by for a delicious meal that will take you back to your childhood.

Justin F.

Yelp
This place is a quintessential dive! And I mean that in the best way possible! Old school all American drive in as well as counter side dining (when not in a pandemic). We managed to get here for the first time today, and I have to say it was simply great! Ordered at the counter, and even when busy my large order was ready in about 15 minutes. Burgers aren't fancy or gourmet, but they are good old fashioned comfort food, and you can customize toppings to your liking. Wash it down with a delicious milkshake! This place has hot dogs right in the name, so we had to get the hot dogs. I have to say, I've had many many hot dogs in my life. This is the best hot dog I've ever had! You can choose which size and any layer of toppings. I did not opt for all the way, but I did get chili and pimento cheese. Those were very good, but the hot dog meat is what makes this dog stand out from the others. It is a more vibrant color than your average hot dog and the taste is crave worthy! I can't wait to go back for another! Seriously, do not skip the dog! They also have the standard sides, which were okay but not special, and they have a variety of fried pies that I'll also plan to try next time!

Kimberly D.

Yelp
Honestly the food is always good but but one thing I got to say that they need to improve is the service and staff everytime a go they are rude to me and they sometimes forget about my order

Bobby B.

Yelp
Best Hot Dogs in Winston-Salem one of the few places you can get red slaw, had great fries and Pepsi. Looks like the place has been there since the 50"s I would definitely go back.

Kelly P.

Yelp
Full on goblin-mode Carolina style dog exactly as it should be. I might have preferred a touch more mustard on mine, but it was a wonderful mess as it came, and I'll know for next time. I ordered at the drive in because I thought it added to the historical vibe. The service was prompt and pleasant and the price was certainly right. I was pleased to see the place was busy, reassuring me that this was a totally appropriate thing to eat every once a while. Fun fast cheap decadence. Totally legit and very enjoyable.

Trey Y.

Yelp
This curbside hot dog house was a great time and hit the spot! I rarely give 5 stars, but when I do, it checks all the boxes. Our waitress was extremely nice, the food was exactly what you want and more out of a hot dog/burger spot, and the pricing was spot on. First, we showed up without knowing much about the place. The waitress came right up to the car, gave us a rundown of everything, and gave us more than enough time to make up our minds and ask questions. My girlfriend and I both got the footlong hot dog with all the toppings. First, you must get the pimento cheese spread, it has amazing flavor and really made the dog worth coming back to. Do not skip out on it! The tater tots and hush puppies were perfectly fried, well salted, and we devoured them. 9.5/10 and we will certainly be back to try more things on the menu!

Rob Y.

Yelp
Kermits is one of my favorite spots in WS. For what it is, a neighborhood drive in diner, it's a good one. The food is inexpensive, simple and good, and comes out quickly. The big kahuna here is the hot dogs. Get it Kermits style which is loaded up with everything NC cuisine has to offer. It's a monstrosity and it's delicious. But guess what, if you're in the mood for a toasted cheese, they've got that and it's delicious. And guess what else, if you decide you want an egg and some bologna on it, they'll make that for you too. The fries are the waffle cut style, aka the best kind, and get you an ice cream cone or a milkshake for dessert because they've got those too. Plus who doesn't love reliving the old days of driving up in your car and eating off the tray perched on your car window.

Candice H.

Yelp
Pretty good old fashioned hot dog I was hoping the ranch was homemade, but it wasn't just a plain old store-bought, imitation ranch but overall pretty good buy a little expensive for what they have to offer, but nothing too out-of-the-way for today's prices would recommend

Jim C.

Yelp
Paid a very first stop to a Winston-Salem legendary eatery: Kermit's Got Dog House. I ordered two classic hot dogs: one with pimento cheese and chilli. The second had mustard, onions and relish. My wife and I split: onion rings and an apple fried pie. Weirdly enough, it was the fried pie that motivated me to up my grade from three stars to four stars. The hot dogs were good but the fried pie made the experience better than average.

Jon H.

Yelp
A staple of the community since 1966. Kermit's has some of the best cheeseburgers and hotdogs around period. I like the Buster Cheeseburger (single, double, or triple) and hotdogs are excellent!!! Been coming here for many many years and it's always consistently good with great service.

Sharon P.

Yelp
Don't let the old-school look of this place fool you! The customer service is amazing, and the food is even better. The hot dogs are pink which is a southern thing, and what I prefer. The breakfast plates are affordable and always cooked fresh. You can pull up to order, and someone will come out. I'm not sure if they offer this at breakfast, but if you run in - it's usually pretty quick. Definitely a plus for the area for good food - the options are somewhat limited.

Karl K.

Yelp
Kermit's earned a spot in Our State Magazine's Top 10 hot dogs joints in the state. I'm thinking they must've only gone to 10 places. It's not that Kermit's is bad. It's just not worthy of a top 10 hot dog designation. The hot dog itself had a good taste, and the chili did as well. But the slaw was WAY too wet. It caused the bun to liquefy and the entire thing to fall apart. The carnage was terrible. See photo. The burger also had a good flavor but also was nothing to get excited about. The tater tots were perfectly cooked and not greasy. My server was very sweet, but after she delivered my order, she never checked on me once. I actually had to go to the counter to get a refill and find out how to pay my bill. If you are going to Kermit's for nostalgia, I get that. It has that. But to me, if nostalgia is not accompanied by excellent food, what is the point? And along with that nostalgic atmosphere at Kermit's comes the loudest phone you will ever hear. They have a to-go order phone that rings almost constantly, and even though the place is already loud, it manages to break through the noise and shatter your nerves. Kermit's has been doing their deal since 1966. But even Dairi-O is better. Yeah, that's right : Dairi-O. And they've been doing their thing since 1947. If they were avoiding chains, I understand. But Our State overlooked Johnson's Family Grill in Madison.

Eric W.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place today and was very pleased. I love old school drive-ins like this! The hotdogs were great as were the hush puppies. Really good soft serve as well.

Anita W.

Yelp
Small old fashion drive up/ car hop style. Nothing too special about the hot dogs. Great for a quick stop for a bite to eat. Kinda dirty and dinky. Service was nice

Jared L.

Yelp
Excellent service, I was greeted immediately! Delicious food with the classic drive-in vibe and an affordable price. Will be back!

Vikki M.

Yelp
They don't have places like this around much anymore. You drive up and one of the waitresses will come out to take your order and then bring it to you at your car when it's ready. We tried the regular hot dog, a 1/4 lb beef one, and a cheese dog which is topped with pimento cheese. We had the regular and beef with mustard, slaw and chili. The regular was the best... and was very, very good. The beef one, the hot dog was tasty but didn't have much snap and the bun was too much bread. The pimento cheese one was fun to try but if you just want a great hot dog skip it and go regular. We also got B&G handpies which are a local creation: cherry, apple, peach and lemon were the ones we got. My husband grew up with these pies and was thrilled to revisit his childhood by having them again. The waitstaff are super nice and very efficient. Bring cash!

J F.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Such a nostalgic treat! I got a footlong pimento dog, and was not disappointed. Service was fast and friendly, the waitress was a great upsalesman as she got me to quickly change my drink from water to tea. Not even being from this coast, you can tell this is a locals spot, and truly a treasure. I will come back on my next trip through.

Holly K.

Yelp
I was really excited to try this place out but was a big disappointing. I thought the cheeseburger was good and for a little over $3 could not be beat. My hot dog however was disappointing. The chili was too liquidy so by the time I made it half way through the hot dog the bun was soggy and not good. The onion rings were good, hot and crispy. I was a bit disappointed in the chocolate shake since it was really just vanilla with a touch of chocolate syrup. We went in around dinner time and they had a waitress. You seated yourself and then she came on over. She was friendly and wasted no time making sure your food got over to you. Some older reviews mention that this place is cash only but they do accept credit cards now.

Yelp
Been around for longer than I have been alive! Family owned and loved! Some of the best hot dogs and hamburgers around!

Yelp
Were looking for some cheap and good eats before heading downtown for a performance. Having dogs and burgers may not make it on some lists for such an occasion, but it was fine for us! The pimento cheese is absolutely outstanding! I had it on a burger, which was amazing and on a foot long dog too. It was definitely a case of my eyes being bigger than my stomach and I was stuffed after, but was it ever good!! It's not a fancy place and it looks a little dated, but that just adds to the charm and the really good food!!

Yelp
Stopped in at Kermit's during Tour De Frank in July. The Saturday special was a footlong, fries, and a drink. Who needs anything else? Our group sat outside and a server promptly came out to help us. We all ordered the special; mine with chili, mustard, and slaw. I think the whole thing was around $6. The dog was real good but I could have used some extra seasoning on the fries. The whole experience is like a throwback and I really enjoy it. Good food, good prices, good service. I'm tempted to try other things on the menu but reluctant to stray from a good hot dog.

Yelp
I recently visited Kermit's and had the super frank (beef frank) with fries and lemonade. The bun was toasted which is a little different but it was still good. I would definitely go again just to try the cheeseburger!

Yelp
This was a fun and pleasant surprise. My favorite thing about it was that it felt like a time warp. Original furniture and fixtures from the 60s, same with the menu board (and the menu probably). I had fries and a foot long hot dog "all the way" (chili, mustard, slaw, onions) and it was pretty good. Sorta messy but that comes with the territory. The crinkle cut fries in the paper bag were my favorite part. That, and the atmosphere. I'd love to bring my folks here on their next visit. What a fun Winston tradition.

Yelp
Kermit's is an institution in Winston-Salem. It has been here since the 1960's and still keeps the same general look and theme from that era. Hey... If it aint broke don't fix it. Right? I don't know what it is, but Winston is just a great Hot Dog city and Kermit's definitely adds to that. Kermit's is in kind of a rough area of town, but I wouldn't let that scare you off. I've never had any problems. They offer curbside service, take out, and dine in. If you are going to dine in, you can just have a seat and they have wait service. Kermit's has a ton of options: breakfast plates, BBQ, sandwiches, hamburgers, ice cream, shakes. With all of that being said, the reason that people continue to come here is obviously the hot dogs. Their hot dogs are the Southern Red Dog and are very good. I would suggest getting the Cheese Dog All the Way. This comes with their delicious pimento cheese, chili, mustard, and slaw. I know that Pimento Cheese on a hot dog sounds kind of odd, but I would highly recommend it. I think next time I might just give their pimento cheese sandwich a try. Their sides are also very good. I've had both the tater tots and the crinkle fries. Both are great options, but I think I would lean towards the tots. Their Sweet Tea is done right and they also have Cheerwine as an option. The service here is kind of lacking. That's the only downfall. Kermit's has great hot dogs (and pimento cheese) at great prices in a cool retro atmosphere. I would highly recommend this Winston staple.
