Keys Cafe - Review - South Lake Tahoe - Tahoe - The Infatuation

"Keys Cafe is the answer when you need an easy, filling breakfast that isn’t a sit-down diner. The counter-service cafe inside a cabin off Lake Tahoe Boulevard is decked out with string lights and cursive, coffee-themed quotes hanging up on the walls. While you could come in for an iced latte or smoothie on the go, we like to kick back in the homey space and spend quality time with their panini-pressed breakfast burrito. Get it with sausage and avocado." - Julia Chen

Cute little mom and pop cafe! The staff are all super sweet and it’s such a cute little cozy place. I got the sausage bagel sandwich and it was so tasty! My friends got their coffee and breakfast burrito and loved it. Overall great little small business to support in the area!

Google
Simply a fantastic cafe. Plenty of outlets if you need to plug in while you work. Very dog friendly. Great staff. All of the food and drinks I have tried have been great. Dog approved deluxe puppuccino

We had never been to Tahoe. Friends from Auburn treated us to a grand tour of the area. One of the best stops in two days was for brunch at the Keys Cafe. It is a little hard to find as it is off on a side street, but Google maps got us there. Although busy preparing drinks for her patrons, the owner (pictured) was gracious, patient, and accommodating. Substitutions and special requests were no big deal. We sat outside on a most pleasant "South Lake" morning - I understand they have their share of those there in mid-August. The Cafe's vibe is just what you would expect inside and out, the decor - the same. So what about the food? We had BLTs (on marbled rye), a Breakfast Sando, and (drumroll, please) the Blueberry Bowl. Since it is not practical to travel 2,100 miles for this delicacy on a daily basis, I asked for the recipe and that, too, was shared with a smile. What a fantastic place in a fantastic place!!!

My boyfriend and I never miss a chance to stop at Keys Cafe when we’re in town. We love their breakfast burrito and coffee. The atmosphere and the staff are always fantastic. They have soy options for drinks and are pet friendly. They were even kind enough to give our pig a puppuchino :)

One of my go to favs when I’m in the area. Today I enjoyed an iced Purple Haze (vanilla chai & lavender) with an Avo Bagel. Perfect pairing! Light bite before jumping back on the freeway. The staff is always super friendly and the vibe is very Tahoe.

Stopped by for breakfast and this little shack didn’t disappoint! Breakfast burrito was perfect portion to split between two adults. The salsa was also so yummy. The açaí bowls were perfectly sweet and shareable! Coffee was a perfect pick me up! Fun games! Chalk board to write on! Great staff! Be fueled before your day in Lake Tahoe!

Google
Keys Cafe was outstanding! We went there for an afternoon coffee but they also serve breakfast and lunch. They offer some unique coffee drinks; we had FlowerPower and Almond Joy lattes and they were delicious! The service was great and the ambiance is very cozy, we will be going back!

Google
It's a little hidden and worth the find. Every sandwich I have gotten from here has been amazing. They have a great drink selection and the owner is so sweet. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I've been here twice now on two separate trips to Tahoe. Love the ambiance and their staff are always so friendly. Great lattes and yummy sandwiches.

Yelp
Quaint. Cute. Friendly. Very local. That's the vibe of Keys Cafe and I enjoyed every minute. You could easily cruise right by this tiny cabin cafe tucked inside a mixed use commercial property. The sign is tiny and it screams "IYKYK" vibes, which is what makes it so cool. Standard coffee offering with a few seasonal specials, and they also have some hot food and breakfast and snack type items as well, but it's really the staff and warm atmosphere that you'll come here for when you do. Sitting there, I loved hearing the local banter happening between staff and customers and the guests themselves. You could find out a lot about a small community just by hanging in the right spots, and this is definitely the one for the Keys. I enjoyed a basic black coffee and a very rich chocolate croissant. Perfect combo for cozying up here. Oh yeah. The cute little table on the patio is perfect for a cooler summer afternoon too! If you're leaving South Lake and heading towards Emerald Bay, this is a solid stop to fuel up.

Yelp
It's a cute locals only kindle of vibe. We only had coffee and it was incredible. Almond Joy and Deserted Island, both delicious. Fast upon delivery, but do not expect good service. No one acknowledges you or will not speak beyond whats required to place your order. It's not an easy place to find if you're not a local. May be worth discovering for travels not interested in the overrated Starbucks. 5 star rating based on coffee only.

Yelp
Hidden gem in SLT! We came here for lunch and were quite impressed. The sandwiches were very tasty and had lots of meats. I ordered the turkey pesto and my husband ordered the Papa Dave's both delicious! I love finding little gems and supporting small business owners. Definitely will be back.

Yelp
I've been here twice now! Both times for chai -yummm!! Cute (could use some TLC), but it's clean and the staff are very friendly! Service is quick!! Go here!! #TryTheChai

Yelp
Couldn't be more excited to find this place! I love açai bowls, but only when the texture is perfect and it's an unsweetened base which this Cafe uses. Simple healthy, and perfect. Five stars for sure.

Yelp
Cute little coffee spot. Coffee itself was just ok but service was friendly and fast.

Yelp
The food is refreshing, their sourdough sandwiches are worth a trip over. The service is great & friendly! My favorite order so far is the "turkey sando" & a medium almond joy iced coffee, my coworker enjoyed his coffee as well. If you're ever in Tahoe & need a quick refreshing & fast service provider place to eat, come here forsure!

Yelp
Cute little local breakfast spot in Tahoe. Heard great reviews, so decided to check it out. They are famous for their breakfast burrito and they do sell out, which happened to us when we went, but that didn't stop me from getting something else. I got the bagel egg sandwich and it was delicious! The lady was super nice and fast at our orders. Reasonably priced for Tahoe area. Their almond croissant was also delicious. Def will be back once I'm back in Tahoe

Yelp
This place does not disappoint! Cyd and Alex thank you again for a phenomenal lunch!! Simple and done well is the way these guys do it! Golden Chai with the creamiest and most delectable foam via Cyd and a Turkey/Swiss/Pesto on Sourdough that was hot and the crunch!!! Nicely done Alex!! If you have not been here....its time! Support your locals because they don't disappoint!

Yelp
This place is so cute and cozy with fun games available to play while waiting for the food. The staff were fairly friendly and the food and coffee tasted pretty good. I would not buy the sandwich again because it was really flat and not as filling. It was nice that it came with chips! I don't see why it's an extra charge for regular burrito items such as greens or tomatoes. I would skip out on the greens next time as they weren't cut small enough and you'd pull them out of the burrito after almost each bite. Would probably come here again for some coffee and maybe an açaí bowl and basic bfast burrito!

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. My flower power tasted great (but super floral. I thought it's gonna scream lavender. It's a nice small coffee spot to go after the hike.

Yelp
We have been in Al Tahoe since 1994 and have always visited the Keys Cafe. For a long time, it was just the occasional visit for coffee and breakfast. However, ever since the new owners, Cyd & Alex, took it over we come here as often as possible. First off, they are the nicest people and really care about their customers. We always enjoy talking to them and we have become friends over the years. Cyd makes the best specialty coffees and Alex's breakfast burritos are the absolute best (I order them every time!!!!!). The actual building has wonderful lake/cabin charm. If you're ever in Tahoe this is a MUST place to visit!!!!!

Felicia F.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast burritos today! And always the best lattes. Always the most fresh ingredients and packaged perfectly for the door dash order.

Adam P.

Yelp
Had a great Monday morning breakfast at Keys Cafe! I had the bacon, egg, and cheese on a jalapeño cheddar bagel which was delicious and had a great cheese pull. We also had the açaí bowl which was had a perfect portion and ratio of everything in it.

John T.

Yelp
Great food and friendly service. I would highly recommend. They also have a great smoothie selection.

Yelp
A wonderful local coffee shop with good vibes, food, prices, and people. Stumbled into this place after a three day backpacking trip and we definitely made the right decision. We didn't want something that was overpriced or felt too corporate. We just wanted a place where we could stuff our faces and relax for a while. The baristas were really nice and they played great music. The menu was art-sy and up to date, they answered our questions and gave us suggestions. We ended up getting two specialty drinks and two breakfast burritos. Everything was awesome! The burritos were absolutely huge and we didn't have to eat again until dinner. I'd recommend adding the balsamic onions. This definitely felt like a local place. People in the town were catching up and hanging out, heard multiple people say they go there often. So if the locals choose to go here over and over again you know it is good! I will definetly come back or recommend it to my friends when they go to Tahoe!

Yelp
We like to walk here for the good food and chill environment. Dogs are allowed inside/outside which is a bonus for us. They have a large variety of drink selections. We got breakfast sandwiches & I had the vanilla latte.

Lynn K.

Yelp
My husband stopped at this neighborhood cafe/coffeehouse once while in town. We shared a BLT with turkey and avocado. I had a latte. We enjoyed our stop.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop we found on the way out of town. The purple haze with oat milk was amazing. Reasonable time to get our drinks on a Sunday morning around 9 am. Food took a little longer but was one of the best breakfast burritos I've had. So delicious!

Sarah P.

Yelp
Such a cute cafe and the owners are amazing, service is flawless. Hands down the best coffee, smoothies, and food in town. Absolutely check this place out, been coming here for years, true South Lake gem.

Courtney A.

Yelp
I chose this spot for breakfast to avoid the $18 omelets at almost every other breakfast place in South Lake Tahoe, and it did not disappoint. It has an upgraded but charming "hole in the wall" feel. The old wooden screen door and rickety back fence with a mural of plants painted on it feel rustic and suit the laid-back vibe, but the shiny coffee equipment and neatly printed chalkboard menu show the care that goes into the place. The breakfast sandwich and burrito were made with pretty basic ingredients, but they were high quality. The taste and value were reasonable for being around $11 each. To drink, I got the purple haze, which is vanilla chai with lavender, and I was quite pleased with my choice. It was a subtle but delightful twist on a classic. Would definitely go again!

Yelp
truly just love this place. Their Chai is great, the Butterbeer & secrets super yummy, and we got a variety of of Acai, Tropical and Green bowls AMAZING!!!

Yelp
When I arrived there was only one party seated. We ordered two breakfast sandwiches one with sausage on everything bagel and one with sausage on cheddar jalapeños bagel but they somehow got the cheddar order wrong and put bacon instead. For not having a line the food took kinda long compared to other places. The drinks if you get hot coffee you pour it yourself from the coffee station, but I will say their vanilla chai is really good, creamy and the slightest hint of chai flavor. I wanted their breakfast burritos but they supposedly ran out and it was only 10 in the morning. Update: we came back the next morning and they had breakfast burritos! Again service is really slow especially for food as the drinks always came out first but I had to stop by for the chai again. They also welcomed my doggy which I appreciate especially in the bitter winter cold. I highly recommend the breakfast burrito!!!! It was so bomb especially when it's cold. Pair this with the chai latte and your morning is set. I always love pet friendly places because it really sets the mood of a place. The second time I've felt really redeemed

Yelp
Ordered a BLAT through DoorDash and I seriously got two pieces of bacon for a $14 sandwich. Oh no refunds and I didn't even eat the sandwich

Yelp
Good sandwich, Locals place to get a quick bite. On hwy 50 at keys Blvd. Nice people mellow atmosphere.

Yelp
The perfect stop! We had lunch here and will be coming back. Our food and drinks were delicious. Can't wait to try their breakfast and coffee drinks. They had a nice selection of canned drinks as well. Loved the atmosphere inside and outside. And to top it off, the owner was super nice too! We'll be back soon.

Yelp
I just discovered this cafe and have been coming every morning. It's small and quaint but feels like home. The service is always great and help is given with a happy attitude. I look forward to trying more there as they have a lot of yummy looking coffees and breakfast options.

Yelp
Cute cafe in South Lake Tahoe. The girl who took our order was very helpful and patient with us as we tried to figure out our order. The butterbeer i ordered was deliciously creamy and not too sweet. (Pictured). The boyfriend ordered a strawberry blond smoothie. He enjoyed it. I believe it had granola in it... I did not particularly like that but he liked the thickness of it. The food was amazing. He ordered a breakfast sandwich on a jalapeño cheddar bagel and I ordered a breakfast burrito. His sandwich was delicious and my burrito was a pretty good size. I wish it had a little less potatoes but it was really good nonetheless. The salsa though... so good. I wish I had more of it. The food was so fresh, i felt really good the rest of the day and didn't feel like I ate something too heavy (I ate half the burrito bc it was so big). The food and drinks were all highly liked but all were pricey. Not complaining... just letting you know to expect to pay some pretty bucks here. The cafe itself is small and cozy. Funny stickers and signs everywhere and they sell merch. I would definitely go here again.

Christy V.

Yelp
Cute place, great service. Almond joy latte and chai latte were delicious. Iced americano drinks are yummy too.

Yelp
Didn't take pics of the food or bowls. Darn! This place is so good though. It's like a hidden gem. The burrito is so good and the salsa that comes with it is delicious. The açaí bowls + smoothies are so bomb as well. Yes I tired all those three items when coming here. My husband got the bowl and I got the burrito and smoothie. Will definitely be coming back when visiting Tahoe again! I recommend this place for anyone that wants something light for breakfast, the wait is a bit like 5-7 mins at lest and more time if there is a decent amount of people there.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years and have always enjoyed how quaint and cozy it is. However the last few times I have been there, I was shocked by the increase in pricing. I totally get that costs have gone up but I think $14.00 for a breakfast bagel is a little over the top. Having owned a coffee shop, even at today's prices, I know what kind of profit margin a breakfast sandwich yields. I will choose somewhere else to get my breakfast treats going forward.

Yelp
This is a quaint cafe that's dog friendly. However they overcharged me for a gratuity fee that they added. They said they would automatically charge 18% on parties of 6 or more even for " to go orders" However I had a party of 5, and was charged 35% gratuity....... on top of the 20% gratuity I already have. I tried calling them and going on their website. But the phone number is out of service and the website doesn't work. I ended up calling my bank to get the overcharge back. Breakfast burrito has potato wedges, scrambled eggs, and meat option or avocados. Unfortunately they ran out of avocados and chorizo because shipment didn't come in yet Chunky monkey smoothie which is banana, peanut butter, granola though was delicious! Dirty chai, the coffee doesn't overpower the chai flavor like other places. Perfect balance of sweet and dirty! Extra espresso gives a nice caffeine boost Cucumber infused water was a nice touch
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Really cute cafe, with friendly service, and creative drinks! I was so delighted to discover that they used David Rio chai for their drinks. Next time I'm in Tahoe I'll definitely go back to the Keys Cafe.

Sarah K.

Yelp
I really love coming here for a coffee or smoothie and the pressed panini but they are slow. I've never understood how it takes so long for a drink. It's been this way for years. So while the food & drink is worth it just be prepared to wait forever.

Yelp
I got introduced to Keyes Cafe years ago and fell in love with it. After a weekend in Reno my wife and I decided to meet our friends in Tahoe for a night. On the way home I told her we needed to stop at Keyes for old times sake. It still looked almost exactly like what I remembered. Cute little cottage with a hippie-ish vibe to it. The girl who took our order was very nice and friendly. I enjoyed watching all the regulars come in and greet the workers, it gave the cafe the homey feel. We ordered the Almond Joy latte and a cold brew coffee, acai bowl & a sausage breakfast burrito. I still regret not getting a breakfast sandwich too though! My wife was stuck on the burrito so I had to bow out and let her choose. I guess I can't complain because the burrito was pretty damn good. I appreciated that the acai bowl wasn't too sweet and that the granola being placed on the top and the bottom of the cup to enough the crunch throughout. Our coffees were pretty good too. Keyes Cafe has turned into our spot to hit on the way home.

Jenna M.

Yelp
super cute tiny little cafe. had a lot of different types of savory breakfast items. not a big variety of bakery items. got the purple haze and it was super delicious. definitely recommend and will come back.

Yelp
Stopped by for brunch on a Monday morning before heading back home and it was a lovely surprise. It is tucked away from the main street in a small cottage. The lady taking our order was nice and answered all my questions patiently. We ordered 3 sandwiches and some drinks and everything was decent. I was intrigued by the Butterbeer and it was pretty good.It was very sweet with toffee and caramel flavors in espresso. Hubby's coffee was OK. My mom had ordered pineapple mango coconut drink ( I think it was called castaway) and it had nice tropic refreshing taste. We had sweet potato sandwich, Grilled cheese sandwich and hummus sandwich. All 3 were pretty good. My fav was sweet potato sandwich. They have few tables inside with enough seating and benches outside for outdoor seating. Overall, cute place and decent food.

Yelp
We were headed into the Desolation Wilderness for a hike and looking for an early morning cup of Joe. Found Keys Cafe thanks to our fellow Yelpers. It is set back from the street, so we would have never seen it without Yelp. This place is a great example of why we try very hard to only go to local places when we travel (no Starbucks, chains, etc.). A funky, charming, local coffee shop with good coffee, fresh baked scones (the baker was dropping them off when we were there), and a chance to meet locals. I loved their art, inspiring quotes and overall positive vibe. I recommend stopping in if you are ever in the Lake Tahoe area....truly a hidden gem.

Yelp
While visiting Tahoe in February we came across this cafe for lunch and ordered some delicious sandwiches and açaí bowls! The service was super nice and fast and the food was really good even when we ate it in our cabin. Place is a little hidden as it can be missed when looking for the location.

Yelp
Really want to like this place... But, the prices here are outrageous, see attached receipt, and the food is bland at best The only thing we enjoyed was the matcha which was nearly $7.50. The breakfast sandwich which was $13.50 for a regular sausage egg and cheese bagel. The bagel tasted dry and store bought while the eggs were dry and unseasoned. The jam bagel was nothing special either, just a plain store bought bagel with smuckers. The coffee was the only normal priced item and it was disgusting, I literally threw it out. $29 for 2 drinks and 2 bagel sandwiches is dumb. I'm not going back again. It would be acceptable if it was good coffee and home bade bagels. Just go to Tahoe bagel company...

Yelp
This is a Local charmer tucked away off The 50. The service has always been on point for me. But this last visit it was above and beyond. It was late afternoon so barista and I had a nice chat. And because I was the only one there I was able to get some questions answered about the coffees I was ordering. She was informative and assisted in my selection. In fact she took the time to teach a staff member how to create the coffee we discussed.

Yelp
Great value and love the options. It's nice to be able to have many smoothies and coffees to choose from. A little out of the way for us, but worth it! Love the string lights and small cabin feel!

Shawn H.

Yelp
Great food and service. Really enjoyed the sandwiches and bowls. Alex the owner greeted us and was very helpful in making recommendations. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The breakfast burrito is great!! The service is the best in town! Alex and his wife are both great!!! Love how quaint the place is!!! Five star for sure!!

Yelp
Great little hidden jewell. Down to earth, laid back small walk in coffee shop and cafe. I recommend stopping in or getting your morning coffee delivered from here with DD. Worth the morning indulgence

Yelp
Loved this place! One of the cutest coffee shops in Tahoe! The staff was so friendly and their coffee was great!
