How Mahalia Jackson Imagined Fried Chicken as a Path to Black Success - Eater

"Among those white people were Harlan Sanders, now better known as Colonel Sanders, who — marketing plantation imagery — would go on to open the first Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1930 in Corbin, Kentucky, a town that John T. Edge of the Southern Foodways Alliance (SFA) describes as 'a sundown town — in other words, a town where Blacks were welcome during the day but not at night.' Eventually, KFC would blossom into the global franchise that it is today — all riding the image of a cartoonish Southern colonel." - Madeleine Davies

Great bucket list thing to try. Food is same as any other KFC, but it's hot and freshly made. So that makes difference. The museum around sitting area makes it feel special.

What a fantastic tribute to the man who INVENTED THE 11 herbs and spices secret recipe for his world famous fried chicken. The original KFC was a great find. We ate delicious chicken and walked around cafe reading the history of Harlan Sanders and Kentucky Fried Chicken.. there is a huge parking lot on site, lots of handicap parking. Did you know he also had an on-site hotel? He believed travelers needed easily accessible food and place to sleep while on the road!

What a treat for lunch. Who do this was the location of the original Kentucky fried Chicken. The staff was friendy and we are going to see if the chicken taste better from here than it does for many other KFC.

If you’re anywhere near this KFC and don’t stop in just for the museum part, I don’t know what to tell you. Not only was the food and service top-notch, but the amazing amount of KFC memorabilia is fascinating. Watch the video on how the colonel trains employees the best way to make the chicken right.

I’m not sure where they got their chickens from but if you’re wanting to go there to get a good meal and get filled then think of going somewhere else. I’m not sure if we had fried chicken or fried pigeon but the legs are so small they were almost nonexistent. The people behind the counter are stellar, and the cleanliness and none. But I’m still not sure if we had a chicken or a Cornish Hen.

The museum part was nostalgic and enjoyable. The food was below the average KFC experience. With this being the first KFC it should ensure top knotch service and quality food. Go for the museum and don't bank on the food being any better than average KFC.

This is the fastest food service I have ever experienced! The food was not only served fresh and hot our orders were ready for us to grab and take to the table before I ever finished paying for my meal! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable if you have any questions. The museum part of the restaurant is very cool. It shows from the gas pumps from one of his original jobs to his life story and how he come to create KFC! There’s a lot of history to be seen and experienced here! I recommend this to anyone who loves to learn and loves fried chicken.

You would think this location would serve the best chicken. It was terrible. Clearly the oil needed to be changed. Museum was ok, but overshadowed by the terrible food. Fine In Family dinner with no plates, no butter or honey. Staff hiding out in the museum chatting. No water available.
