Taking the place of Curry Up Now in Bishop Ranch, Khaki is a new high-end Indian restaurant offering a creative, eclectic menu of dishes from all over India. We started with the Sweet Potato & Patta Chaat, a creative take on Indian street food made of charred sweet potato topped with crisp, chickpea flour-battered leaves of spinach and kale, along with mint & tamarind chutneys, yogurt, pomegranate arils, and sev. The chaat was crispy, earthy, sweet, sour, spicy, and savory all at once, but the part that stood out was the shatteringly crispy leaves of battered greens! From the selection of non-veg appetizers, the Prawn Koliwada was a plate of five tiger shrimp covered in a crunchy shell of semolina, topped with chili mayo and garlic thecha; and the Parsi Chicken Keema was ground chicken in a spiced tomato sauce, topped with crispy potato straws, and served with toasted pao on the side.
Moving on to the entrees, the Mangalorean Beef Sukka was made of chunks of semi-dried beef cooked with spices, onion-tomato masala, black pepper, and ghee, creating a strong, hearty, meaty combination of flavors. But my favorite dish was the Zucchini and Ricotta Kofta, which were deep-fried dumplings made of a soft mixture of grated zucchini and ricotta cheese, served over a lusciously creamy, slightly spicy yogurt gravy that was perfect for dipping with naan bread! Overall, the food here was delicious, and the service was even more memorable--every staff member we interacted with was super attentive and hospitable!
