The Best Restaurants and Bars in Portland’s Pearl District | Eater Portland

"The owners of Khao San wanted recreate the vibrant street foods of Thailand in the heart of Portland, serving dishes like moo yang (grilled pork) or tod mun pla (Thai fish cakes). I had lunch here on a business trip and was pleasantly surprised by the food and how sweet the servers were. I got the lunch special Pad See Mao with chicken (medium spice) and a Thai iced tea. The spice level was a bit hot for a medium, but perfect for me. If you like really spicy food, this place will deliver the heat! The tea was perfectly sweetened, creamy and not too strong of a tea flavor. The ladies taking orders and serving food were very kind and polite, greeting people happily and sending guests off with a smile as well. The place was busy during lunch but they are efficient in cleaning tables and getting people sat and served. The only thing that would make the atmosphere better would be better music :) (totally a personal issue tho!!) Although there is lots of Thai food to choose from in Portland, I’d recommend this spot in the Pearl District for lunch 😋

There are a lot of Thai restaurants in Portland. Khao San is the hidden gem for Thai food in this city and they have been opened for over decades. Foods ; Pretty authentic taste like you eat the local foods in Thailand you might not need to ask any condiments to add on just tell your server what you wanna eat and the level of spice you can handle ..That’s it !! Their food presentation is so beautiful, they garnish foods with eatable flowers and greens that make food more fancy and unique. I’d recommend the grilled menus such as Kor moo yang, Gai yang , Crying tiger or Ping, they marinated meats with their sauces and served with the house special dipping sauces moreover if you order smth grills, Do not forget to order papaya salad to eat with grill menu that is good combination like a perfect pair of red wine and steaks in version of dining at Thai cuisine. Other items that I would recommend are Khao Soi, Chineses broccoli with crispy pork belly, Pad thai, Pad see ew, Pad kee mao, Holy basil (Pad kra pow) , Duck curry, Massaman curry with crispy roti, Those items really hit the spot. You won't be disappointed if you order them for sure..!! Cocktails; they have a lot of signature cocktails and mocktails on the drink menu, their cocktails are very interesting, It is combined between Eastern - Tropical ingredients mixed with Western mixology style, for example they make cocktails from Thai tea, Lychee, Green tea and other tropical ingredients that they can find in the US . Lychee sorbet martini, Phuket fantasy and Forest Gump are my favorites but I have to come back here again to try their cocktails more. Atmosphere; Fun environment like you are on Khao San Road in Thailand that well known for the tourists from around the globe. They have dining table TuK Tuk inside the restaurant that you don’t have to fly over 17 hours to Thailand for riding on Tuk Tuk. Service: The foods come out pretty fast, friendly and helpful staff.

Google
Great Thai vibe and very friendly service. Sadly the food didn't meet my expectation. If you love spicy, make sure to order your food with spice level 5+. Small portion. Seasoning isn't bad but a little on the sweet side. Everything was average except for the spicy fish, it was very good. If you don't like raw mung bean, don't order the mango sticky rice, it ruined the taste, also the sticky rice was a little mushy. Crying tiger was chewy but good sauce

Google
This was a really nice spot. It had a really good layout, a big bay door entry, clean, and a beautiful view of the walking bridge. The service was quick and prompt, and their plating was phenomenal. (FLOWERS ON MY PLATE, AND DRINK?! YESSSSS) The food wasn't as spicy as I was hoping. But they brought over spices to bring it up to my insane level of spice. Not enough spice is a me problem, not them. I will be coming back!

Google
So consistently good, and the staff is chill, atmosphere is fun! Food is 💣 Locals get this place. Insta-chasers typically don't know how to review Khao San. Act like a local - try the Khao San Ginger Lager (fire) 🫚 and their cocktail menu and beer tower make for a fun Sunday afternoon!

Google
Best Thai spot I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in Portland so far! The requested spice was perfectly balanced and the ingredients and meat in my dish were fresh and high quality. 10/10, I will definitely be back. Soon!

Google
A restaurant named after a trendy and vibrant street in Thailand, which is only about 300 meters long but known as a gathering spot for travelers from around the world. As expected, I checked the chef's nationality before entering, and the place was decorated with an interior that exuded an authentic local vibe. The restaurant featured an open-concept "Hangover" bar at the front and was equipped with outdoor tables. Our friendly and witty server, Catie, ensured a delightful dining experience with her proficient and swift service. The menu was well-organized, just like local ones, with detailed explanations and pictures of the dishes, and the food itself offered a nearly authentic taste. It was a joy to savor flavors reminiscent of those I used to enjoy, and while I could have eaten more, I opted to pack the leftovers to enjoy for dinner with other dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant. If you're looking to experience traditional Thai cuisine, don't hesitate to pay a visit!

Google
Food was bland. Spicy dish was actually not spicy. Group order of different dishes and everyone agreed. Curries also did not come with rice. Thai iced tea was good, though!

Yelp
One of my favorite thai spots in the pearl district. The decor of this place is super fun and colorful. Their portions are worth it for the price (especially in the pearl district) and the food is great. Our server was super friendly and the food came out fairly quick. The sauce that comes with their Kor Moo Yong (grilled pork) is my favorite.

Yelp
The cutest Thai restaurant! The tuktuk is a great representation and the interior is overall reminiscent. Servers were friendly and food was great. I got the crab fried rice and loved it. The flavor was just right and there were actual crab pieces in it.

Yelp
It is a cute place that does evoke Thailand memories. We arrived at happy hour so there were lots of great deals. Alas, our cocktails were too sweet but the beer was just fine. The food was tasty and happily some our preferred dishes were also on the happy hour special! Service was friendly but occasionally slow.

Yelp
Had walked by this place so many times and finally gave it a try. The interior itself is roomy and spacious with large wood beams and fun Thai decor. We grabbed a couple menus and sat ourselves. Wound up going with the fish cakes and the basil chicken which we split. The food itself was tasty and flavorful. The portions I'd say were about mid range based on the price. We weren't the hungriest so I'd be interested in coming back and trying it another time. Service across the board was solid. We had water brought out immediately when we arrived which was great and the food also came out fast. I was a little confused on where to actually order and pay from since there was a pay here sign at the front but everything else was table service. All in all a nice place to stop by for a quick bite.

Yelp
Loved this restaurant! It's super cute, service was great, and a must when it's cold out. You have to try the Khao Soi. It's a coconut curry based soup that's rich in flavor.

Yelp
Khao San has amazing food and service, it's the best Thai food I ever had, I totally recommend this place to everyone!

Yelp
Loved it here. Service and food were amazing. I only wish it was Thai music instead of pop playing but it's a beautiful ambience with great Thai street food.

Yelp
Great food! We got the pumpkin curry, the massaman curry, and the chicken wings. Interior is cute, and the presentation of the food was nice too. Waitstaff was super fun!

Yelp
Amazing service super friendly staff and SOME OF THE BEST THAI FOOD AROUND! Defiantly recommend the Pad Thai.

Yelp
Stopped here on a Thursday around 4 for Happy Hour. Server was very nice and fun, and the owner even came out and did a little dance to the music to entertain her. We got 3 happy hour selections. Wings, fries., and Pad See Mow, but the taste wasn't anything I would rave about. Seems like this would be a fun place to visit later in the evening when it is busier.

Yelp
I was NOT expecting this place to be as good as it was, but as I sit here in my post-meal food coma, I'm happy I stopped by for a late lunch. I had their Khao Soi and it was delicious! The broth was so full of flavor, and then the bowl was overflowing with fresh ingredients, from the chunks of white chicken meat to the egg noodles and veggies. Bonus points for providing such a massive serving, I couldn't make it more than 2/3 of the way through my meal, and I was STARVING when I arrived. Great spot if you're hungry for quick, but still top notch Thai food at a decent price.

Yelp
3 stars cause the service is well...not good. The food was all pretty tasty as it's always been (wings were a tad dry but fry was on point). They only had 2 people working the front which didn't appear to be a short staff issue but just how they do it but hopefully i am wrong. When entering they hand you a menu then point you to a seat instead of walking you there. Took quite a while for the server to then bring waters over so definitely took advantage of them being there to place food order asap. First couple dishes came out but with no sharing plates so used napkins after waiting a bit then next dishes came then lastly plates and rice (is it's own dish as none came with). Would seem best if they just did qr code ordering or have you order at the bar esp since you need to pay at the end at the bar anyway. We didn't get drinks but the table next to use had theirs quite delayed since only 2 people in front so one person would also be bartender and greet people that enter but also had tables. Had a couple dishes come to our table that weren't ours and they didn't seem to know where they were supposed to go. Would be nice if they also had dishes with rice if people aren't planning on family style (not sure if they still have their lunch specials that djd this and were great) and obviously getting their service straightened out.

Yelp
Wonderful food. Terrific sauce. Everything was perfectly cooked. Nice uncomplicated unpretentious but tasteful ambience. Friendly service.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I've been here several times previously, and have always had a good experience. The food was great, the service good, and no complaints. So I'm recounting this latest experience as a heads up to the new ownership and my rating is based on that experience. Since I've had a good experience here before and was craving Thai food, I suggested that we meet here when some coworkers wanted to grab lunch. We were greeted and sat promptly, and our drinks arrived quickly. I got a Thai iced tea with coconut cream, and it was delicious. And free refills! The server mentioned that she was having some trouble with the POS system, which was apparently new. She also mentioned that the place was under new ownership as of that day (!) and they were still getting used to a few things. No worries! We placed our order and waited for the food to arrive. The appetizer did arrive in a reasonable time frame, and it was really good - fish cakes served with a sweet and spicy sauce. We waited some more for our entrees, and finally got up to inquire as to their whereabouts after forty minutes had passed and the couple at the table behind us who had sat down just fifteen minutes earlier had received their food. The server (a different server, apparently there was a shift change that wasn't mentioned) claimed that the ticket had never made it to the kitchen; she said it had printed in front instead of the back of house. I found that a little suspicious because both the appetizer and mains were on the same ticket, so how could one item make it out but not the others? Whatever. To her credit, she was very nice and apologetic, and offered to comp most of our food, which we gratefully took her up on. Unfortunately, we had to get the entrees to go since we had waited for so long already. When the rest of the food arrived, one of the dishes was missing. Apparently it was never entered at all? Thankfully the mains were comped as promised, and she even threw in some additional fish cakes as an apology for the hassle, so my friend who never did get his entree at least had something to eat. We didn't have time to deal with it, so we just left. Once I finally got home and went to eat my belated lunch (spicy crispy basil chicken) it was... terrible. The chicken was overcooked, tough, and stringy, and gave my jaw quite the workout. I still ate it because I was starving at that point, but it was pretty awful. I'm not sure if the change in ownership included a change in the kitchen, but I really hope this isn't an indication of future experiences! It would be a shame for this neighborhood spot to fall victim to poor ownership and lack of care in the kitchen. I'd give it another try based on previous positive experiences, but I'll be wary.

Yelp
The best way to go at it is to go with a group and share everything family style. Because wow, all of these were a must try. The staff were soo friendly, they got the best staff at Khao San! We got the Hoy Joh and the chicken wings to start (not pictured). Both were crispy and flavorful but the Hoy Joh with the dipping sauce is a must try! The pork and shrimp stuffing was greatly paired with crispy tofu skin. The Crying Tiger was cooked well, but must eat it before it goes cold! The dipping sauce was a perfect pairing. The Khao San Holy Basil Chicken is a signature for a reason. Explosive flavors paired with jasmine rice to tame it out. The Khao Soi is a must if you had to pick one dish! Creamy curry with egg noodles and tender chicken. The papaya salad was solid, and you can never go wrong with mango sticky rice.

Yelp
Really fantastic food! We were bowled over by the great flavors and hearty portions. We'll be back!

Yelp
I came here with a friend right off a flight a few weeks ago. It was awkwardly in the middle of the afternoon, and surprisingly they were still open for lunch service. The place was rather vacant given the hour but the manager(?) was very amiable and sat at our table to converse with us for a bit. I was looking to get the typical pad see ew, when the manager advised to try something more adventurous, and I ended getting the Pad Char Pla which is a fried catfish curry per his recommedation, and the calamari. The catfish was definite a W by the owner. Calamari was just okay. In summary the food was food, but the hospitality was welcoming! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Shannon K.

Yelp
Cute interior and no wait for 5 on a sunday. The food was good, surprisingly authentic on items like the lao papaya salad. The portions were also pretty big on the house menu. They could be shared if you aren't that hungry. Though the food was good, nothing really stood out to me as amazing. I would try it if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to do it.

Yelp
I have only had Thai a few times and while it's not my go-to I can usually find something I like. I had the Garlic Chicken, which had a nice garlicky flavor sauce on it but unfortunately the chicken wasn't the best quality and tasted like it in a rubbery sort of way. When our party of three were ready to head off to the Timberwolves game I went up to cover the bill for 1 appetizer and 3 entrees and was advised that the total came out to $140. It took a few minutes to sort out that we were not the party of six who were still sitting at the booth next to where we were eating and our bill was correctly sorted out. My friends seemed to like what they ordered and said that they would go back in the future but I might try a different place next time. Regardless how friendly and funny the people working there are, there just wasn't anything screaming out to me in happiness that I needed to return for.

Yelp
Khao San was wonderful! A pleasant, relaxing dining room and they were able to accommodate a group of 11 from my office for lunch. Service was exceptional and very friendly! I had the Spicy Crispy Chicken with Basil and failed to notice the word spicy. The flavor and texture were wonderful, it was just too spicy for me. So if you're a spice wimp like me, make sure you look for the spicy symbol and ask for it mild. My coworkers dishes all looked great, including the fried catfish with veggies, the chicken pad thai, the holy basil fried rice with beef and more. Everyone seemed very satisfied. I'm very eager to go back and try more items from the delicious looking menu, including the crispy chicken with rice, the calamari, the chicken wings, the pad thai with shrimp and more. Very tasty food!

Yelp
Food (8.5/10) - Everything was delicious. Definitely some solid Thai food. Service (10/10) - Super friendly staff. Checked in multiple times throughout the meal and offered us happy hour pricing even though we were a few minutes late. Gave us great recommendations. Ambiance (10/10) - Love the decor. Super street-themed and really vibey. Would come back with a big group of friends.

Yelp
Oh my yummies. We stopped in here (THANK GOD,) before an event for our school. We met friends here and they had ordered us vegan Nam Khao with tofu and they got chicken. This is NOT on the menu y'all. And for that I say I AM SO SORRY!!! Lol but I wasn't sorry. I wasn't sorry to eat that at all. It was SO full of texture and flavor OH MY YES. The rice was crispy and fried to perfection. The tofu was perfectly cooked - not GREASY at all and it was such a light color you could tell the frier oil was clean and fresh. The cilantro and green onion was so bright and fresh as was the romaine boats we had to make the lettuce wraps with. But to me the lime on top was the chef's kiss. It just gave it the acidity and brought all the flavors together. PERFECTION. And guys. I'm SO sorry for reviewing this dish as it was off menu. But it was SO good. I got a Thai Whiskey which was an old fashioned with Thai whiskey. It was lighter and not as harsh as a traditional Old Fashioned. My husband got a Pataya, which was very good. Fresh and bright which was a take on a mojito. Our two friends had the Lychee Lemonade Martini and LOVED it. Then we had spring rolls which I regret not taking photos of. Because guys they were DELISH. But what knocked my socks off was the peanut sauce. I'm not EVER a fan of peanut sauce. It's too sweet or too thick or too something. But this was a great consistency, and the flavor. OH The flavor. It was peanutty but also coconut notes and a bit of spice? I don't know but it was REALLY good. Finally we got some Coco Potato Fries which were SO incredibly delicious. What surprised me was that these were clearly deep fried but NOT at all greasy. And man the flavor. Sweet and coconut with a delicious dipping sauce. Oh man. The set up inside is SO cute. We sat at a BIG long table right when you come in and we're next to the Tuktuk which was SO cool. It had lights and was so COOL and original to have it set up as a table IN the restaurant. Everything was clean and bright and the temperature was good (not too hot or cold!) I cannot recommend it enough. Not to mention I can't stop thinking about the food and wishing I could have more RIGHT now!!!

Yelp
Dropped by during their happy hour and their deals are very nice. Like that they include a lot of unique food items as part of their happy hour menu like the Som Tum Thai, which was what I got. They also got a bunch of drinks on their happy hour menu as well. The main menu looked equally good with a quite a few more options so I got to check it out next time. The Som Tum Thai was fresh and tasty. They also give you a lot of it. Wish that they would ask what spice level you'd like though cause the regular one is on the sweeter side of things. My friend got the Pad See Ew with Chicken from the happy hour menu as well and it looked pretty good! Love their fun ambience with Thai pop songs playing all the time. Will definitely be back!

Marissa E.

Yelp
Food is delicious!! We had crispy chicken basil. It was so good! Only thing missing to this dish is a side of rice. (I feel like it should be part of the meal) I ended up purchasing a side of rice. Overall the flavor was there.

Yelp
WOW ! This place is the shizz!! How am I only trying them now , even though they were so close to my old neighborhood and my friends vowed testimony to the good food. We walked in on weekend and were seated right away , granted it was 45 minutes to closing time . I did check with our host if it was ok and they were more than welcoming . We weren't too hungry so decided to split an order of the Thai Basil chicken and the chicken wings . I can not tell you how good we found the wings - the right seasoning , the very light batter and the crispiness ..chefs kiss. The chicken was equally good and I highly recommend going for 'hot' if you can remotely eat spicy food . My husband who is not big on very hot food was more than enjoying it . we also go the Thai old fashioned , the Lychee sorbet Martini and a Singha draft . The Lychee cocktail was a tad bit too sweet but my sister enjoyed it. The ambience is very lively and there is more than enough seating for larger parties or small. The staff is a joy to work with -they are sweet , chatty and very friendly .Prices are competitive and very reasonably considering the location , quantity and the kickass flavors.

Yelp
Love this place! We first discovered it while in Portland for house hunting. Everything on the menu is good from the traditional pad Thai to the spicy crispy chicken basil ((which is a must!). If has a mix of traditional dishes and some street food- portions are generous and the staff is so friendly!

Traci M.

Yelp
This place was delicious! Came here on a Friday evening, wasn't too busy yet although there were a bunch of people hanging around outside on the tables. Our server was very friendly. Had a pad se ew with tofu, definitely one of the best I've had yet in Portland (albeit I am somewhat new to Thai food). It's also in a great location located next to 10 barrel and the hip coffee shop/lounge next door.
google avatar

Yelp
Love their food! We go whenever we are in Ptown. They have great quality and ample portions too

Yelp
Great Thai food in the pearl. Got there early to try out happy hour. Papaya salad and calamari were tasty tho looks like their happy hour portions are smaller - worth asking next time. Also got the pad kee Mao with pork belly instead of beef - was awesome. Their skewers are popular for the mix - pork and chicken. Staff is super friendly - always have a good time here

Yelp
A warm embrace for your taste buds with friendly staff and a vibrant interior. I would recommend the pumpkin chicken curry and roti. Look forward to visiting again!

Yelp
Friendly and chill team here. Busy but not crowded. Lots of options on the menu. Food was good and portions worked. No leftovers for me :) Street parking. Outdoor and inside seating. Someone takes your order/brings you your food. Pay using QR code on receipt.

Yelp
Our host was by far one of the best parts of our evening and if return just for his energy alone. I had a chance to sample a few menu items and all were spectaucilar. We turned the chicken wings into anappitizer and almost doubled down. My favs were KS Holy Basiland Massamun curry... highly recommended. Plenty of great seating with a full array of drinks. A few TVs if you need to catch part of tonights game.

Cali J.

Yelp
it's ok.Zero ambiance.Pretty good location overlooking freeway, sike. Spring Rolls good food.

Tishia S.

Yelp
I'm from Oklahoma and wanted to try something "Portland-ish". This place is probably the keenest vibe. The food, I was just winging it and well..... I loved the spice, I loved the additional cucumber to offset the seasoning and well the egg..... who doesn't like a fried egg. It all just works, not to mention the drinks Oh just try this place and chill, sing, eat and drink. Taylor and Tina are the best and go above and beyond to make sure your taken care of, oh man to be able to come back here I only want them!!
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Brilliant! Everything 10/10. So many well-cooked options and great atmosphere. Super friendly staff! Recommended starter/appetizer is #12 Hoy Joh. similar to Shumai. Happy hour 3-6 PM (went on a Wednesday)
google avatar

Kate T.

Yelp
Interesting and comfortable atmosphere. Extensive menu of all you Thai favorites and fun shareables. Drafts options are both local and Thai. No complaints about the service. They were slow on my visit and the check ins were timely. This is located in line with your beer crawl. Many vegetarian and vegan opportunities. I started with the calamari which looked great on the menu and my photo but if I didn't send it back I'd still be chewing. Sadly, rubbery and tough but good flavor if you have the time. I then got the larb which I do love. Wonderful flavor and super fresh. I gave it a three but this menu is so vast that I'll be back to try more. Worth a stop for healthy or vegetarian options on your crawl! If you have kids one of the table is in a street car which is picturesque and fun. Good vibe in all.

Yelp
My cousin and I were trying to decide on a place for lunch while out in Portland. Her friend recommended this place and I already had this place bookmarked. Cute little place and service was very friendly and excellent. We were there in time for happy hour, so we started off with the happy hour Chicken Wings. And we each got the Koh Samet cocktail. I ordered the Holy Basil Fried Rice and my cousin ordered the Holy Basil Chicken. Everything was delicious, especially my Holy Basil Fried Rice. I liked it better than the Holy Basil Chicken. Everything had a lot of flavor. Wouldn't mind coming here again when I visit Portland.

Yelp

Yelp
We stumbled across this restuarant before a concert and we were so happy we did. The coctails were good, the food was even better. The Larb was amazing! Fresh food with amazing seasoning. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Perfect for a rainy/cold night. Good food and fun ambience. Tried Ping as an appetizer and it delivered in flavor!! The chicken was tender and had the perfect amount of char on it. For the main, I had the khao soi with chicken. They were both delicious - really good flavors and the portions are huge! We had also ordered the spicy crispy basil chicken which looked delicious, but they forgot to bring it out. No harm done since we were stuffed with the other two dishes - but we will be back to try it next time. P. S - If you check in on Yelp, you get a Thai iced tea, which is the perfect way to end the meal! Yum

Yelp
No frills hidden(ish) Thai spot in the Pearl. Great place to do "family style" meals so everyone can get a taste of everything. From my experience the food here has a bit of Cambodian influence which I assume is due to the owner being from there. I really enjoy this take on Thai, and honestly that entire area of SE Asia lends itself to influences by bordering countries. One of the coolest things you'll see here is the converted tuktuk into a seating area. Definitely try to snag this if you go, even if only once. The seats do have cracks though, so don't wear booty shorts on them or you may get scratched up. Lots of Bangkok and Thai decor inside to bring you right to downtown where that lovely bustling Khao San Road is. You'll know if you've been there. Get lots of dishes here to share! They have a happy hour from 3-6 and 9-close which consists of a handful of dishes at $8-12 depending on methods of preparation. I've eaten at least half of the menu so here are my recommendations: Holy Basil chicken-always a favorite anywhere that serves it. The holy basil just makes this dish pop. Normally called Pad Krapow and a popular and cheap street food. Som Tum-fresh green papaya salad. Theirs comes with a significant amount of green beans, but I just overlook that. It's a personal preference. Pad Thai- a staple and theirs is done with a thinner rice noodle which I find interesting. Good balance of flavors and the noodles aren't overcooked. Tom Yum- classic sour spicy soup perfect for when you're sick, cold, or just want some comfort. Like many Thai dishes this one does a good job of flavor balance as well as texture. Get it spicy if you can handle it. Or for a milder soup have it with coconut milk (tom kha). As for the other dishes I didn't love I will comment on: The Ping- has great flavor but it came out to me cold, as well as takes a good 20-30 mins. This is an app normally so it should come out first. Mine came out last. Their timing is a bit odd, eh? Khao Soi- one of my favorite dishes of any food ever, except not here. It's too soupy and doesn't have the right creaminess it's supposed to. Maybe they were trying to give more quantity, however, because of that it lacks in quality. A typical northern Thai dish that is spicy, sweet, and creamy-a warming dish because of the weather in that very lush region. So even though there are a few dishes I don't absolutely love, I've come here a lot because there are so many I do like. Plus it's a few blocks away from my apartment! Recommend any time you can't decide what to eat. And a shout out to their Ginger Pale Ale. Tasty!

Yelp
Great Thai! On a warm sunny day during happy hour we dropped by and sat on picnic tables along Flanders. This Street does not allow vehicle through traffic. "Flash Breaking News!" And it just opened - the marvelous Flanders pedestrian bridge crosses over the #405 freeway. And the bridge is earthquake proof so emergency vehicles can use it in a disaster. As you dig the scene of people, bikers, dog walkers crossing the Flanders bridge, sit back, relax, drink up and grub out! Very interesting scene of passer by's amusing us while sipping a cold IPA microbrew (good tap list) or if you prefer a glass of wine or Thai cocktails - beverages to buzz you up at Friday happy hour. Our server was gracious and friendly and knew the menu upside down. The spicy papaya and green bean salad is light and tasty with its own heat on the hot afternoon, along with fresh spring rolls with a huge portion of dipping peanut sauce. No gas guzzling glass bubbles rolling by to spread smelly exhausts. Hey, I'm saying this is destination spot for not just Thai, but the new Flanders bridge crossing attraction. Dig it! We watched many cross over for this Thai to go, as most of the street tables were taken. Plenty of dining room and a bar inside and you can take a seat on a tuk tuk. Place your order please! You'll be pleased!

Yelp
This was a pretty bad experience. For starters, they really skimped on the ingredients. The Holy basil fried rice with beef barely had any beef, barely any basil, had one or two little bell peppers, and had no green beans or tofu. Similarly, the pad thai didn't have many peanuts or add ons. The quality of the food was also bad. The fried rice was very oily and somewhat overcooked. Although not terribly overcooked. And to their credit, the oil had a nice garlicy flavor. And the fried egg was good. It was still slightly runny even after walking home in the cold with the food for 15 minutes. But the beef wasn't very good, and it didn't really have much flavor other than the garliciness. The pad thai was weird. It used these thin noodles that reminded me of the ones you'd get in pho, not the flat ones I've always seen with pad thai. The bigger problem to me though is that the noodles were extremely underflavored. You might be able to tell by looking at the picture. They were also slightly overcooked and clumped, although not too bad.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. We stayed a few days in Portland on a PNW trip. Looking to compare hybrid Lao/Thai restaurants, which are rarer in LA, we found this gem. I can honestly say the food is wonderful along with the service, including the owner who is there helping to ensure quality and customer service. I'd recommend the crying tiger steak, larb, stuffed chicken wings, and noodles, as those dishes were excellent. We did ask the owner if he thought about setting up in LA but he is happy to be serving the fabulous city of Portland. Will definitely visit again when we are in town.

Yelp
We were in the mood for Thai food so we headed over to Eem where the wait was over an hour. We didn't care where we had Thai food as long as we got to have thai food so we called Khao San Pearl and they said they could take us in half an hour so by the time we drove over and parked we were immediately seated. The waiter told us we had just missed a busy rush (I think they have a popular happy hour from 3pm-6pm & we got there after 7pm) This is definitely a more casual spot. The tuk tuk in the middle of the restaurant is very cute. We had a bunch of items but the standouts for me were the spring rolls, the Thai Tea made with coconut milk and the crying tiger. It's not very often you can taste the actual earl grey tea your thai tea is made with. I love me a good spring roll because I always feel like it's the most filling and makes me feel like I had my full serving of required vegetables for the meal. The crying tiger was sooooooo good. I would do unethical things to get this dish again!
