12 Hottest Restaurants in the Triangle, February 2025

"The recently opened Khao Sen is bringing the kind of flavors more often found in Cary and Morrisville to the outer Wake County suburbs and so far the public seems to be loving it. Located in Fuquay-Varina, Khao Sen’s faithful Thai menu revolves around both rice (Khao) and noodle (Sen) dishes and avoids typical Americanized dishes like pad Thai or generic “green curry”. Instead, try the khao soi, a Northern-Thai curry with chicken in a fragrant broth alongside egg noodles and herbs. The ba mii moo daeng is akin to a Thai version of a meat-and-three, with slow-roasted pork shoulder, pork and shrimp dumplings, bok choy, cilantro, scallion, and crispy wontons, egg noodles, and served with a side of pork broth. There are spicy chicken wings, handmade spring rolls, and a very autumnal dish — the kuay tiew neur, a brothy soup with rice noodles, sliced New York strip steak, stewed beef, beef tendon, beef balls, cilantro, scallion, and Chinese broccoli." - Matt Lardie

We were here for a weekday lunch, wasn’t busy. hope they get good crowd soon. Our waiter, she did great, helped us to table, explained the dishes and overall served us well. The food, portion size will be the only motivation for us to go back to this restaurant. The salmon lacked seasoning, the green curry was too watery, the BBQ pork was very cold so it might have come straight from the fridge. Hopefully the food tastes gets better soon and will get back here someday.

A Truly Elevated Dining Experience at Khao Sen We had an incredible meal at Khao Sen that left us absolutely impressed and feeling great. The food was not only beautifully presented but also incredibly clean and nourishing. There was none of that heavy, sluggish feeling you often get after dining out. In fact, the experience reminded me of eating in Europe, where quality ingredients and balance are at the forefront of every dish. The Moonlit Matcha was a standout. It was creamy, lightly sweet, and refreshing with coconut and pandan flavors that linger just enough to keep you reaching for more. It was unlike anything I’ve had locally. The Khao Soi was a knockout and absolutely hit. Comforting, rich, and perfectly spiced with bold yet smooth flavors that wrapped around every bite. The vegetarian soup bowl was also delicious. The broth was deeply satisfying and the variety of ingredients was great. If I had one recommendation, it would be to add a bit more seasoning or complexity to the vegetables themselves, but the dish as a whole was still a winner. And don’t even get me started on the mango sticky rice…WOW! The mango was incredibly fresh, sweet, and ripe. Paired with the beautifully hued sticky rice and coconut drizzle, it was the perfect finish to a thoughtful meal. The ambiance was welcoming, the presentation elegant, and everything felt intentional, from the food to the tea service. This is a place that clearly takes pride in both quality and experience. Highly recommend!

This place was great. The food was surprisingly tasty and very authentic. We got the gyoza and veggie spring rolls to start, then I got the vegetable stir-fry as well as the daily special spritzer and the Thai Tea dessert. Never had anything quite like that and it was delicious. I'll definitely be back!

Update: We ordered crab sticks, spicy chicken wings, and dumplings via GrubHub. All good!!! It was our first time trying Thai cuisine and visiting Khao Sen. Both experiences were excellent. We went for lunch on a Monday at about 1:00 pm, so it wasn't busy. The restaurant is clean, spacious, comfortable and well-lit. It's a casual setting. Melissa, our server, was a true professional who answered our questions and made terrific recommendations. We desired less spicy dishes. The steamed dumpling appetizer, duck, rice, veggies, and pork ribs were tender and well-marinated. Even the passion fruit tea was delicious. The meal arrived quick, fresh, hot, and flavorful. We are looking forward to being repeat customers!

We drove out from Durham to try this restaurant and it was absolutely worth it. The food was so flavorful and fresh. We really enjoyed the crab omelette (served over fried rice) and the noodle seafood special. Becca, our server was so friendly and helped us navigate my husband's coconut allergy. We will definitely be back.

Went in for a good quick dinner and did not leave disappointed. Accidentally ordered the wrong appetizer at first, but they gladly swapped it out for something my style (the ribs pictured which were great). The Yen ta Fo came out great, service was also fast and very friendly. Highly recommend.

Recently tried this restaurant for the very first time. My first experience was takeout and my second experience was DoorDash. I cannot say enough amazing things about this new gem that I found. It has what feels like a fusion of flavors within the Thai culture. Whether I did takeout or order delivery, food was consistently hot and delicious. I love that all the flavors work well together and really speak to the pallet. Definitely recommend anybody looking for a new place to try If you’re in the mood for something incredible!

Absolutely delicious! The Khaosen was rich, flavorful, and perfectly crispy and comforting. The green curry was a standout too—with just the right amount of heat, packed with fresh vegetables . You can really taste the balance of spices and care put into each dish. Portion sizes were generous and the presentation was beautiful. Staff was very kind specially Alexa. . Highly recommend.
