I went to Khatan on a Sunday night on the strength of good reviews, and wow did it not live up to them.
The restaurant itself is perfectly okay, and service was fairly quick and fine.
We ordered the chicken karaage and Brussels sprouts to start, and this was okay. The karaage had too much batter, but no biggie.
But the sushi was simply terrible, for sure the worst I've had in a long, long time. The rice was stale to the point of being worse than the sushi you grab from the refrigerator at the supermarket. The grains were dry, sharp, and tough, instead of plump and tender.
Even worse was the fish, every single piece of which had started to go off. I'm guessing it was fresh on like Thursday, and here we were eating it on Sunday, by which time it had definitely acquired that distinctively bad fishy smell.
I got a few standard nigiri and they were all off in thjs way. I also ordered the Alameda roll, which was atrocious: drowned in vinegar to the point of almost inedible bitterness, then showered in shitty Sysco crispy onion bits. While the puddles of vinegar almost made the roll fall apart, they weren't enough to hide the bad fish smell, unfortunately.
The sushi here was simply a disgrace.
