The Nationally Celebrated Cho Wines Will Open a Hillsboro Winery and Tasting Room | Eater Portland

"Having opened a new Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard venue in late 2023, Kickstand Comedy is a nonprofit comedy theater that has announced a partnership with the Black- and queer-owned pop-up Daddy’s Vegan Wangz and Rangz to host a kitchen at the venue. The collaboration was announced after the theater opened, and an opening date for Daddy’s at Kickstand has not been announced." - Janey Wong

A small but mighty comedy club. It’s a great intimate space. Since it’s a nonprofit all of your purchases go directly back to Kickstand including tips. The prices on food and bev are way less than any other comedy club in town and they don’t require any minimums which I appreciate! I will definitely be back in the future.

The improv was excellent! Had a great time. Show was short and sweet. Good for a fun outing / date. Highly recommend the hot chocolate across the street as well. Edit 7mo later: been taking improv classes for ~4mo, highly recommended. Definitely not a cult 👌

Stand up? Check. Improv? Check. Sketch? Check. Weird? Check! This comedy theater has all of the hahas and hehes you could ever want in a Portland evening! If you haven't been here before you HAVE to stop in and see a show (or two)!

Show was decent got there early hoping for some food they had a very limited for and drink selection but show was funny and vibes were good we will definitely come back!! And it’s right next to a great food cart pod so the lack of snacks was not an issue at all💯

BIPOC only classes exist because many non-white people are taught to cater to white emotions, and to make themselves small around white people. It’s the same reason there are women-only gyms; women and non-white people are still oppressed in “normal” spaces in America. If this is confusing to you, it’s because you don’t listen to or respect non-white people. Glad that this space exists 🙏🏻

Portland has a lot of great comedy venues, but Kickstand has that little something that makes it my favorite in town. The owners are super nice and clearly put a lot of work in to cultivate a great space. The shows are top notch, the community is inclusive, and the talent is unmatched. Could not recommend it more. Also, Away Days Brewing right next door is a great spot to hang before shows!

Really enjoyed the energy of this venue, it feels handmade with love, and they do a ton of great shows. Warm, comfortable venue, reminded me of London's Bill Murray Theatre. Check them out for something a little left of center, but super funny!

Love the comedy in the park that they run. Some constructive criticism, though - would've loved to have gone to the show tonight but the blacked out doorway and no one out front made it really unclear that people were supposed to open the door and walk in to be added to the walk up waitlist. We thought the place wasn't open yet when we showed up at 7:50 and killed some time until 8:15, and by then we were too far down the list to get in. Someone out front or at least a sign telling people to come in once doors open would be really helpful.

Yelp
Intimate theater space that I didn't even know was here. Have been once now for a special taping event. The show I attended was sold out and very funny. Priced right, but not sure if that's the norm. Definitely left me wanting to return! I didn't notice when I first came in that there seemed to be a bar off to the far left as I came in. Someone had asked me if I was in line, so I'm guessing it was open at the start of the show. I'm also aware that this group hosts comedy in the park events in the summer which are free and a really fun community event. Looking forward to more of those this summer plus returning for more live comedy events in the theater.

Yelp
I purchased a $260 gift card as a gift several months back. When attempting to redeem the card the system does not accept the code. Not ideal but, hey, stuff happens like this. The real problem though is that I've been trying to contact Kickstand for a month and have received no support. Even more fun: at least one of the emails on their contact page bounces. :) It is incredibly frustrating to spend this sort of money and receive no help in attempting to use the services that were paid for. Now I'm forced to write a public review which hopefully jolts Kickstand into providing customer support. Because it seems, today more than ever, that companies only care if they're publicly called out. So, hi Kickstand! Some customer support would be greatly appreciated and I hope that you can understand my frustration.

Yelp
Went to Comedy in the Park and it was amazing! The lineup is always great, the volunteers are wonderful, and the venue is absolutely gorgeous. If you haven't been, I highly recommend you check it out

Yelp
Pretty funny shows. Menu and bar are OK. Nice fun space. People generally quite welcoming. A good addition to Portland improv and comedy scenes.

Yelp
I have come here a few times on a local deal, but honestly something is a little "off" here, and in addition, some of the shows are just more awkward than funny. They have a little bar with enough of an assortment of drinks and oftentimes the shows are pretty empty. I know some times they are testing material and not every joke will land, but some skits are not funny and there is no vibe to the show at all. I want to support local comedy in Portland but I think they need to bill the shows differently.

Yelp
My personal favorite place in Portland to see live comedy, especially improv. It's also a community that workrs really hard for inclusion and making everyone feel welcomed.
