Kickstand Comedy – Portland, Oregon
I attended a completely sold-out show at Kickstand Comedy, and the atmosphere was lively from the moment I walked in. The staff and volunteers were warm, organized, and clearly invested in creating a welcoming nonprofit space.
One of the performances that stood out featured a comedian using breast pump sounds into the microphone, and it was beyond funny. My throat still hurts from laughing. Several of the other comedians delivered sets that truly blew my mind, and the energy in the room stayed strong from beginning to end.
People around me were talking about comedians who had traveled from out of town, which added to the sense of excitement and community. I ordered a deep-fried marionberry pastry and a Coca-Cola, and a big green leaf salad showed up with my food even though I hadn’t ordered it. I ate it anyway, and it was good. Everything fit naturally into the rhythm of the evening.
The DJ kept the timing smooth with perfect transitions that supported each performance.
This experience was profound for me. I was a clown in the Joy Clown Parade during the summer protests, and tonight brought me just as much joy. I’m grateful for my time on Hawthorne. Returning here for a night of comedy felt like closing & Opening a meaningful circle.
Kickstand Comedy is a true Portland gem, and I highly recommend it. ARK MWC Was There
