The Buzzy Zimmi’s Is Opening a Next-Door Wine Bar in the West Village | Eater NY

"In Hudson Square, the restaurant is hosting a guest bartending shift with Ricardo Rodriguez of Aberdeen, New Jersey’s Portuguese restaurant Lita and next-door cocktail bar La Otra; Rodriguez, a two-time James Beard Award semifinalist, will serve an oolong highball, a shisho vesper, and a riff on an Old Fashioned called a coconut and barley." - Melissa McCart

Google
This is the first bad review I have ever written and I work in a restaurant. This is by far the worst sushi I have ever order to say the least the pepper tuna is warm and doesn’t taste fresh. Philly role has no cucumber and other rolls are sloppy, chicken satay is rubbery and sauce is watery I am scared to even eat my food very very disappointed.

Rich

Google
I’ve ordered from here a few times and always get good food. They are quick and the food is fresh and flavorful. The gyoza were delicious and the California roll tasted freshly made.

Mike H.

Google
The food is absolutely amazing, but every single time we order form here we get like 2-3 sushi rolls plus rice and chicken etc, and they give us ONE half full little cup of soy sauce and one TINY little ball of wasabi. For everything. Every time. It’s like a disrespectfully small amount and is finished after less than one roll. Idk if their spending 10k importing the soy sauce and wasabi from a remote Vietnamese village or something but there’s no way they think you can eat with that little amount.

Google
Been coming here for years, the food is amazing the staff is so nice and we have had nothing but great experiences here! Definitely recommend ordering the sushi party platter for a dinner with a few friends, so good and a reasonable price!

Sarah G.

Google
Great sushi! Favorite in the area and the 40% off deal is definitely worth it. Best to come there for their specialty rolls, the What a Roll and Volcano rolls are our favorite.

Google
Always have a good time at kickys.. the best pricing and food. My go-to with my brother. Highly recommend. Local gem, Try their fried ice cream!

Google
I’ve been coming here for years now! I always feel comfortable coming & sitting and ordering some food by myself. The service is great, the food is delicious. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Google
Such a great restaurant. Easily the best chicken pad Thai! Arguably the best general tsos chicken. The sushi is all amazing. This restaurant is in my top 10 all time for sure.

Yelp
Nice variety, good food, and when something isn't right they fix it without hassle. Great service.

Yelp
Kicky's used to be our go to place. My daughter & I stopped by last night & left without being seated. They were busy & the person at the cash register ignored us to ring up a takeout order (we were there first) & then answer the phone. There was an empty table & we were told it was reserved. An elderly couple walked in & seated themselves at that table. I'm not sure if the table was actually reserved. We continued to wait & were basically ignored. I'm not sure if the person at the register noticed us leaving. We went to Kobe, were seated promptly, & our food was served to us quickly.

Yelp
I was in the mood for some Chinese food, and came across this place searching reviews. Although sushi may be what they are best known for, I really enjoyed the lunch specials i ordered. My girlfriend and I tried their general tso's chicken, sesame chicken, and beef lo mein. We really enjoyed all 3 of these dishes. General Tso's was my favorite of them all, just because I enjoy some spice to my sauces. But everything was really good here. Awesome flavors. And their prices are very reasonable. You get a large amount of food for a lunch special. I was very satisfied with everything here. I will be coming back for sure.

Yelp
Food was good but service was lacking. I don't know what the problem was. We simply walked in, seated, ordered our food, ate, paid and left. No hassle customers....

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It is tucked away at a very nondescript plaza and you wouldn't think much of it, but the food is good, the service is great, and the ambiance is classy and cozy. They also have bubble tea and fried ice cream.

Erin L.

Yelp
We order Kickys nearly every week and love it each time! The lunch specials from the sushi bar or kitchen are fresh and delicious. The service is great & everyone is friendly. Would reccommend!

Yelp
First time visit was a success! We dined in during their Tuesday Specials menu and was pleased with the food and service. We were immediately seated and asked if we wanted drinks. After our drinks came, we ordered our food. The food was made fresh and were big portions. The chicken teriyaki were tasty strips with carrots, broccoli, onions, and mushrooms (which we took out). The chicken noodles came in a big bowl, but was missing a little flavor. The Shrimp teriyaki had many jumbo sized shrimp. It took a little longer to make but was good overall. I will definitely return to try some varieties of food.

Yelp
If you had to ask me, what's the worst sushi place I've ever had in my life?? I would highly recommend this restaurant. The sushi taste as if it was pulled off the boat within the same day. Very fishy !

Marie C.

Yelp
Kickys has my favorite appetizer that I only could get in Chinatown in Manhattan. Roti Paratha. It's a Thai pancake with a delicious curry sauce to dip in. So for this I will always return. But, everything else I've had here is good as well their menu is extensive. Their rolls are creative and delicious. So, I'm a fan. Do try.

Ashley R.

Yelp
Honestly such amazing food ambiance and staff. I love to come here because the food is really good but each time I'm welcomed by such kind patient staff. Will continue to come to kickys most definitely

Yelp
Tried the sushi this time and yum -- enjoyed my meal much more! The fusion rolls get a little pricey though Service was attentive and polite as always at Kicky's! Dim lighting gave a more sophisticated, but still casual vibe for dinner.

Yelp
We haven't been to Kicky's since pre-Covid, but it did NOT disappoint. They run weekly specials for dine-in, making their sushi, entrees, and noodles incredibly affordable, pending the day you choose to go. It was crowded for a Thursday night, but our server was moving quickly and we always felt attended to. Being BYOB is a plus too, as we were able to enjoy a glass while looking over the menu. I ordered two sushi rolls (avocado) and capitalized on the discounted noodles by getting hibachi noodles and egg fried rice (no veggies). My husband ordered chicken teriyaki (as my honorary meat eater). The rolls were fresh! (Only complaint- they came out after our meals / noodles.) The portions were so large, it looked like we didn't even touch them. (We did and all enjoyed our food.) We definitely be back soon!

Rosita C.

Yelp
Great tasting pad Thai and signature fried rice. Their lunch specials and 40% off weeknight specials are great deals for very tasty sushi and Asian fusion dishes

Lenore L.

Yelp

Yelp
One of my favorite local restaurants. 99% of the time the sushi is fresh. Came here on Valentine's Day 2020 @ 5pm yo best the potential crowd. Surprisingly the food was delicious. The ambiance was romantic in this day as well. They had red candles lit & the lighting seemed dimmer then usual. I came here with my husband & 3 kids so it wasn't the most romantic meal but it was definitely a nice time. Wait time for food wasn't bad. We tried two new rolls the volcano & another I can't remember but it had cilantro - both were amazing & we'll order again. I'm giving this place 4 stars because on one occasion here my husband & I got here about 15min before lunch was over & literally our waiter took that long after seating us to acknowledge us. Mind you, we were the ONLY 2 customers in the restaurant. Once lunch time was over we were finally acknowledged, our waiter served us water & handed us menus. We were also told lunch was over. - How convenient for them. Whatever, we still stayed cause we do love this place but that was horrible. Another reason for the 4 stars is that another time I was there on a Wednesday for dinner & the food was gross. The pickled ginger was dry & a different color the usual. It was brown not the nice yellow it's supposed to be. The sushi was terrible & the noodles were hard to swallow. Since that night about 10 months ago, Valentine's Day was our first time back & they made up for the horrible food we were served the last time around.

Yelp
Love this place for dine-in and take-out. Food is always fresh and delicious. I love the way they make their chicken teriyaki dish, very tasteful. They also have great specials during the week. Staff is friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Loved eating here with my Mom and Grandma. The food was lovely and came out quick. The sushi and shumai were excellent! The chef's special roll was amazing. Had a lovely bento box, overall a great dinner. I think the crispy green beans could have had a bit more flavor? They were also slightly bitter, but they were good and crunchy anyway. You won't be disappointed by their sushi, entrées, and how quick they are. Good staff too! Really solid place. it gets my seal of approval!
google avatar

Ryan F.

Yelp
Very good local sushi! It is our routine sushi take in. Always good. Hot food very good too. Not a super gourmet place, but very reliable.
google avatar

Timothy C.

Yelp
I've been here many times, both for in person dining and takeout. The food quality has varied. The menu is fairly large and the rotating dine in specials on different days of the week are good. Without the specials, though, it can be pretty pricey for "ok to good" quality food.

Randi S.

Yelp
Delicious food. Extra bonus- Tuesdays through Thursday they have 40% off certain entrees. Staff is very friendly
google avatar

Yelp
The food was fresh tasty and the chicken broth just what I needed when I had a Cold. Very Nice Restaurant

Yelp
Recommend by a friend and we are very happy. Second week in a row we had take out from Kicky's. Staying open during a stressful time and offering takeout, I must give a five star for that and their great sushi. Call in your order and it's ready when you arrive. During the covid-19 give a little more time for ordering than normal. We picked up one week and used grub hub the next. The staff is so nice and taking every measure to keep us all safe.
google avatar

Yelp
I love Kickys. I love all of their fresh rolls and their Thai tea is absolutely amazing. Also amazing specials each day! Keep up the good work Kickys.

Yelp
Sushi was good but when we got to the tempura shrimp with the vegetables, the shrimp still has the poop shoot in it. According the the pictures that are posted here, I don't think they clean ANY of the shrimp. Every picture with shrimp has a black dot. Guys you're sushi is good. Please CLEAN THE SHRIMP!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Let me just start by saying I feel this is more of a 3.5 star place but I'm going to round up. It's a pretty unassuming little former fast food building on the outside. Once you walk in the interior is clean and modern. There is a huge variety of asian food and sushi on the menu. I'm pretty particular with my sushi so I wouldn't try it here. I did see plenty of other tables ordering it though. I ordered a $5.95 lunch special, chicken pad thai. It was a huge portion and came with a salad to start. My husband ordered off the lunch menu. For $7.95 he got the singapore noodles with chicken and shrimp and a salad to start. Both were excellent! We also ordered the hong kong style iced milk tea and it was good. The reason I'm taking off some stars is the service. We were there at lunch and there were only a few other tables. Service was pretty abrupt when we did get it and slow the rest of the time. Overall for the food and price I would go back.

Yelp
I used to order from here all the time! The sweet potato tempura roll is delicious & my favorite is the veggie udon! However, I had one bad experience not too long ago. I got some sort of noodle dish with shrimp & it was just MEH. Nothing special. Tasted average. My boyfriend got a shrimp tempura roll & wasn't impressed with it either. BUT- The other day my mom's friend brought us a sushi platter & that was really fresh! So that saved it & I'll probably start ordering again!!

David H.

Yelp
I ordered my food with wasabi and ginger and didn't get it. Then the young lady that answered was rude. Not professional. She told me to come get it. Sorta defeats the purpose of delivery
google avatar

Neel A.

Yelp
Relocated into a strip mall on the same road as its' previous stand-alone restaurant. New place, same great Kicky's flavor! The lunch specials are bomb deals. They have about 10 well-portioned dishes that go for $6 and include a salad. I ordered the chicken pad thai. Solid flavors enhanced by the squeeze of a half lime and the house hot sauce available on request. The hot sauce has a nice Kick (pun intended)! Generous amounts of chicken and steal of a deal at $6.
google avatar

Adam Y.

Yelp
Spent $14 for bento box lunch special (includes a drink and soup) and an extra roll a la carte. It's hard to beat that price and the amount of food. And the service was awesome...it's an added bonus.
google avatar

Yelp
This is our 'go to' sushi place. It's local, the food is superb, their nightly specials are value laden and the staff aims to please! We share 3 rolls that vary from visit to visit but we almost always gravitate to an "off the menu" Volcano Roll. The food is consistently fresh, tasty, beautifully prepared and well-priced. The only complaint we now have is that they have a jumbo TV screen usually showing some unimportant sporting event. Why? It's BYOB place (so no sports bar vibe needed) that caters to locals and families. Who need the diversion on a weekday night? Open for takeout and delivery during the Covid-19 hibernation so we don't have to deal with it for the moment.
google avatar

cicero m.

Yelp
Beef negamaki appetizer is good. Good number of sushi choices. Another NJ BYOB. Nice and cool inside on a very hot night outside. Tuesday's and Thursday's have 40% off all entrees. WHAT!!!! There's a deal. $6.95 for the Pad See Yu. Nice!! For that price it's worth a try. Food good. $30 dinner with food to take home.

Sanjana A.

Yelp
Great quality food :) Thai style fried rice (includes pineapple) was surprisingly good

Yelp
I have been to their old location, and now they are even closer to my condo. Their new location is located in a crowded strip mall (next to bagel store and pizza store). There is ample parking in the back. I love Kicky's for their mid-week specials. I recommend going on their 40% off sushi nights. You can try all their delicious rolls without breaking the bank!
google avatar

Daisy G.

Yelp
Don't be alarmed, there are a lot more parking spots in the back. The menu offers you sushi and beyond. I ordered a few sushi rolls for appetizers for me and my friends. There's one with salmon and mango that's amazing!! The portions are very large so I was able to share chicken pad Thai with 2 other people. Ambiance and decor is very dark, nice but very dark.

Jacob M.

Yelp
They haven't disappointed me yet, the sushi is good quality for the price and convenience

Yelp
I have been to a lot of Japanese restaurants and this place was just OK. I came here with my sisters, nieces and nephews for lunch. I think the kids enjoyed this place more. To me there was nothing spectacular about it. I would consider this place to be a family type restaurant located in a very small strip mall. I think what the draw to this place are their discounts. I ordered their sushi special for lunch which included a few pieces of sushi and a sushi roll. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't fantastic. Their cooked food was pretty decent because the kids ordered cooked sushi rolls and noodle dishes. The service was as good as it can get. I think there was sort of a language barrier. They do offer a lot of different types of discounts but I wanted to switch a roll from one of their specials. Instead of trying to up sell me she just strongly said no. So I told her that I was willing to pay but she reluctantly agreed. Overall lunch was ok, would I come here again, probably the kids really enjoyed this place.

Lorna H.

Yelp
While service is not the fastest (wait staff are lovely - just stretched when gets busy), food is fresh and tasty ... worth waiting. Nice wee local BYOB ... great Sushi plus other options
google avatar

SteveO ..

Yelp
Sushi is always fresh and good. Main dishes are always delicious. Never had a bad time here. Tried other places in the area, this is always out favorite.
google avatar

Nick A.

Yelp
Best lunch special on the area! Quality of food is always above average...and you can't beat the price. There is one sushi spot that's slightly better with quality however this is always very good.
google avatar

Zhannetta C.

Yelp
Terrible service. Trying to make a buck on amount of people per seat. guess food not that great anymore. also last time was there, cleanliness around 3 out of 5 stars. Called to reserve a booth. was asked how many people and for how long. request denied by restaurant, because on Wednesday they are so busy that it is not worth it for them to seat you. When asked why, the answer was that restaurant will not make enough money on 2 people sitting in booth for 1 hour. really? They are on rt 34, lol not in NYC. plenty of other much better places around, friendly and ready for you at any time.
google avatar

Shivani K.

Yelp
This is my families go to place for takeout. Their menu is huge so there is always something for everyone to pick from. I recommend the sushi (any roll they are all so good) and also try the Singapore mei fun. Dining in is just as nice and not too fancy, even though they moved to a smaller location. The staff is always friendly, and never had any problems.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Chicken TeriyakiOrdered General TSO's chicken. It was the best I've had in this area, Generous portion, good white meat chicken, tge sauce was very good, not too spicy.
google avatar

Aime S.

Yelp
Extremely affordable sushi when dine service is in action . They will recognize you if you go often . And solid tasty sushi .
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
LOVE this place!!!!! Monday's and Wednesday's it's 40% off sushi. It's SO fresh and delicious. We love that it's a local spot that is so great. The restaurant itself is very nice, clean, and the employees are friendly. I would definitely recommend Kickys to everyone! It's also BYOB which is awesome. Parking is limited but it's worth it!
google avatar

Eric Y.

Yelp
Terrible service. We ordered so much food to wait 50 minutes for 1 dish. And the sushi that is made isn't brought to us as it is made. It is sitting on the counter collecting dust. im not here to eat dust and people walking and talking around my food. A bit unsanitary. It's cheap but not clean in my eyes. The service is very slow and frustrating.. as I type, other tables are getting there food and we haven't gotten ours at it's 9:30 and at this point. I want to cancel my entire order and just get McDonald's. If you want sushi. Wasabi house down the roads very fresh and ganga too! High quality too

Yelp
We have been going to Kickys for a number of years and now that they moved down the road on 1208 State Rt 34 Matawan we go there often for their fantastic lunches. My wife loves sushi but I don't so we go for lunch there and I order their Sesame Chicken lunch for under $6 that comes with a generous portion of the most fantastic Sesame white meat chicken with white rice. Comes with a salad too. I can never finish the chicken so I take half home and have it later for dinner. My wife orders their luncheon Chicken Bento Box that costs I think it was $8.95 and that comes with miso soup, a nice portion of their grilled chicken, three pieces of sushi, white rice. We of course take most of that home and my wife eats it for dinner too. Now I love their chicken udon noodles which is fantastic. The portions are large, they run dinner specials with coupons that offer 40% off on some of their dishes that brings your total check way down to a few dollars. I am not quite sure how they make money on a $6 lunch like this or their dinners on nights that they promote. My wife tells me their sushi is great, freshly made by their chefs and very affordable. We go there for lunch at least twice a month and try to get there for dinner when we are not going to all the other restaurants in our area. You can see photos of the restaurant our favorite dishes and a copy of my dinner check at: https://hazletnews.com/restaurants/restaurant-reviews/

Yelp
Kickys, Kickys, Kickys. You never fail me. This is by far one of my top favorite restaurants in the area. As other reviews mention, the outside seems a bit sketch (it did used to be a Boston Market), but the inside will totally assuage your fears. It's modern and trendy but not in the way other restaurants are when they are trying too hard to be something they are not. The service at Kickys is usually great--the servers are as quick and efficient as possible. (FYI: Sushi service does get a bit slow on Mondays and Wednesdays, when sushi is 40% off.) The restaurant is BYOB, so be sure to bring your fav bottle to enjoy the fabulousness Kickys has to offer even more. There is a different promotion for each night. At first I thought this would be just until they gained some popularity, but they've kept it since opening and it's definitely still going strong. (Monday and Wednesdays: 40% off sushi, noodles, rice; Tuesday and Thursday: 40% off all kitchen entrees; Friday and Saturday: you can find a "buy one get one entree" coupon for before a certain time in local shopper booklets; Sunday: 20% off bill.) -Add soup, salad, and dessert to any entree for only $3.95=TOTALLY WORTH IT. -If you get there before 4PM, you can order off the $4.95 lunch menu which comes with a side salad. Also a great value. I've sampled a bit of each category: -Organic salad: the appetizer portion is quite large for only $2.95. The dressing is tasty and the cucumbers are always fresh. -Miso soup: miso soup is miso soup, but theirs is on the more flavorful end. -Appetizers to get: Tempura platter or Thai spring roll -Appetizer to skip: Calamari-it was fine, but the actually calamari were small and the batter and sauce were a bit bland. -Noodles: The chicken pad thai is really good. I LOVE spicy food and find that it has the perfect amount of kick to it. It is also a generous portion. The udon is also good, and the noodles are quite moist. -Panang curry: I had previously read the portion was small, but when I went I had a large portion with a ton of veggies. The sauce had a good flavor, but the consistency was a bit thin. Favorite sushi rolls: JalaTuna, MisOat Tuna, Godzilla, SAS, Chef Special
