"Husband-and-wife team Shinnosukae and Megumi Kida launched this intimate, six-seater salon in 2014, and it’s since become a favorite of an in-the-know clientele that includes models and celebs seeking a low-key hair fix. Cozy as it is, you’ll never feel rushed. In fact, the warm, attentive service, plus cool and comforting interior (brick walls, rustic-chic wood fixtures, and plenty of happy plants) make it a nice little getaway for both men and women. It somehow manages to be a barber shop and full-service women’s hair salon (color, cuts, blowouts all on offer), all while maintaining a homey, comfy vibe."

Shin helped me clean up a really bad haircut I got from a barbershop (and he made it look kinda nice too, I was surprised how good i looked even with short hair). He’s also a really chill guy to talk to. Will definitely be coming back here for haircuts in the future

Google
I had my first appointment today and it is the best haircut I’ve ever experienced. Sachi was extremely attentive and patient, listening to my requests and explaining more about my hair type and shape. She made gentle suggestions for how to make the style work better for me, and I could really tell she was taking her time to perfect the fade and cut. I am so happy with my experience, will definitely be back.

Google
First time coming here for a haircut. Vibe was chill and friendly. Yohei did a great job and was very attentive to what I wanted style-wise. His scissor skills are off the charts, very smooth and detailed. I was very happy and impressed with the evenness of the cut. Definitely looking forward to booking another appointment soon at KIDA. Thanks Yohei!

Google
I loved the experience here!! The Japanese hair stylist knows his stuff as he worked in this shop for 19 years!!! (Same one for 19 years) + he was very friendly :-) The vibe was good and pricing was also goo for the service I received 🥰 I got my hair cut for $47+ tip (15-18% tip) I would come again

I was travelling from all the way from parsippany, NJ for the appointment, I wanted to schedule the appointment earlier because I had a job interview scheduled, but they had no flexibility and asked me to postpone, I agreed to postpone and now when I was travelling due to train delays I was going to be 15 mins late, I booked an uber and on my way I called them to let them know that I’ll be a little late for my appointment, and they showed no flexibility at all, and told me it won’t work and I had to cancel my appointment, looking at the great reviews on Google I thought I’ll give them a shot but after this experience, I won’t recommend them, only if you are free the entire day and can meet the appointment to the dot, then only try it, otherwise they won’t let you go through anyway

KIDA has been my go-to barbershop for the past 5+ years. Yohei is attentive and consistent, is a pleasure to speak with, and understands precisely what I want each time. The interior aesthetics is calming, full of lush greenery and hip vibes. The front desk is also extremely welcoming, occasionally even offering me pour-over coffee while I waited. I recently recommended a friend to Yohei, and he absolutely loved KIDA.

Taka is my barber there and he does a great job. Atmosphere is friendly and always look good after.

Google
I’m satisfied and impressed by this place, Fausto is an amazing master barber. I came to Kida before some upcoming job interviews in the creative industry and would need something clean but not too stern. It’s my first time to this place and Fausto was able to grasped what I was looking for. The result met all my needs, which is quite an achievement since mine hair is the typical hard straight Chinese hair. I will definitely comeback for more cuts!

Yelp
Place has nice vibes and is seemingly decently priced for a men's haircut. I'll admit i showed up 12 minutes late due to my phone dying and getting a bit lost. But it should have been enough time for the simple cut I wanted. instead, I felt I was rushed out with a haircut that upon closer examination was a bit sloppy and riddled with mistakes and a lack of attention to detail. Obviously, that's not entirely on them, but overall I just wasn't impressed in the slightest and actually had to go elsewhere just to fix what they gave me(a less than 5 minute adjustment which I need to book a full appt slot for). I live in chinatown and not Soho and if i wanted a nice cut I'd go to Mildred in LES instead which at the time of writing this is 60 before tip but well worth the upgrade in detail, service, and consiltation. If I wanted a cheaper, quicker cut similar to the one I got I'd pick any number of places in chinatown for less than half the price.

Yelp
My kids always go to Taka and he always provides an excellent cut for a great price. Decor is very charming and everyone is friendly and professional.

Charles L.

Yelp
Taka was amazing, detail-oriented, friendly and more. The vibe here is also very nice, clean, chill, and has a lot of natural elements to it. Would love to come back.

Yelp
Please for the love of GOD if you are a woman do not get your haircut here with Sho. I never leave reviews but my haircut is so bad it warrants one. I got my haircut two days ago with Sho. There's too many reasons why it's such a bad cut, but I would say the worst one being a massive chunk of my hair is GONE. I just got back from another haircut to fix his horrible mess, and the hairdresser informed me a large chunk of my hair in the back of my head was gone. I have long, think, beautiful hair and the fact that I have 1 inch long chunks in the back of my head that will take years to grow back makes me so upset. Pics for reference. Luckily they gave me a full refund (the service is great and the people are very lovely, just this particular hairdresser needs to be fired). AVOID!!!!!

Yelp
I like coming here when I used to live on Mott It's a cute salon right in the middle of little Italy The Japanese artisanship and perfection shows on those cute. I like to book ahead ahead of time to avoid waiting so suggest others to do that too

Yelp
Shin was an exceptional barber. Aside from demonstrating expertise and doing a great job of unique methods to help me get a new haircut, he was also pleasant, polite, and a great conversationalist.

Yelp
Nothing beats a fresh haircut during quarantine. So glad Kida NYc is opening now! Being here for almost two years, I found Kida is very observant and know what is the best for my hair. He pays attention to my head shape and demands, and often give me really good suggestions.

Yelp
I came to yelp looking for a Japanese hair salon, and the yelp Gods got me to Kida. Located conveniently by the R, this saloon ticks all my boxes. As you walk into the salon, you are greeted by a rustic brick wall and a lot of plants. The salon looked tidy and very well arranged. There is enough space between each hair station for the customer to be comfortable and move around comfortably. Being Asian, I needed someone who knew how to cut Asian hair. The hairstylist knew what she was doing and seemed to have a lot of experience cutting Asian hair. After the hairstylist consultation, I was taken to get my hair washed. While my hair was being washed, it was also given a head massage, which I really enjoyed. Put me right to ease. The haircut was great and I though the hairstylist did a great job keeping most of my length. Overall I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
I've been going to KIDA for a couple of years and really appreciate their great service, friendliness, and care. I received a great haircut today, and in the past, from Satomi, who is highly recommended!

Yelp
I'm writing about my experience as a hair model at this salon. It's a simple process where you sign up by leaving your name and email address and when they need a hair model they will contact you. I'm sure they have a long list. I signed up twice and it took months before they reached out to me. It is absolutely free. And you don't have to go if you change your mind so I figured why not. I kind of wanted a different hair style too since I had this one for so long and taking care of my long hair is pretty time consuming. Plus I like to make bold decisions sometimes. A week and a half ago (January 26), I was contacted by Mami, I believe she is new and wants to test her skills on somebody lol I told her yes and that every time I cut a lengthy amount of hair I would make a hair donation of 10 inches minimum. She said it's fine. We scheduled on February 4th at 6pm. Notice she provided me a sufficient amount of time from the day we talked to the day I go in, and I appreciate that this wasn't rushed. When I got there I was immediately greeted by Mami, who was very friendly. We talked about the hairstyle I want and I also asked for her opinion on which style would complement my head shape. I showed her photos of the styles on my phone. We decided on a couple of styles that are similar. Let me not forget to mention this, I am allowed to pick whichever style I want but the requirement is it has to be above shoulder length. After we came to a decision, she tied my hair into four ponytails and cut the 10 inches. She kindly stored it in a ziplock bag for me to take home. From here she took me inside and washed my hair. I didn't get the head massage that everyone on Yelp are talking about, perhaps it's because I'm getting this for free. If you go in as a hair model and you get a head massage I would be so jealous. When I first got the haircut I didnt like it. It's basically the same hairstyle I had before, looking from the front (bangs, and how the hair falls on each side of my head). It's just a shorter version of the same thing and I wanted CHANGE! Plus it didn't look good on me. But I guess it looks like the styles in the picture. I don't know how to style my hair. I mentioned at the beginning of this review that I don't want to spend too much time on my hair anymore, but turns out I do need to put time into my new cut to make it look good. She made my tips curled like a bob cut, but when I went home and took a shower and got the tips wet, it immediately straighten out again. My hair is flat, light, and lifeless. When a girl have a bad haircut it is a very big deal. It makes me not want to look at myself in the mirror, I don't want to go out, and it puts me in a bad mood. No, I'm not blaming her. This was a risk from the beginning. The only thing I do blame her for is she got hair all over the inside of my clothes. I was wearing a blue button up over a white long sleeve. The hair got inside the white long sleeve and inside my bra. I was so upset. It doesn't come off if you just dump it in water. You have to pick it out one piece at a time manually. That's why they put a salon cape over you. I was wearing one too but obviously it wasn't tucked in enough which is a mistake maybe due to inexperience? And I'm sure she noticed that hair was falling into my shirt. This is my experience on being a hair model and the risk I took. It could be better for you if you know what you want. I didn't know what I want and how each of these styles would look on my head. But if you wanna be adventurous, go in and tell them to do whatever they want with your hair! :D Goodluck! Note: I wrote this review a week and a half after I got the haircut but I decide to wait before posting.

Chai A.

Yelp
Cute vibes. Cool merch. Nice staff. But I can't believe I had to pay so much for a choppy uneven haircut... I never wrote a review before, I'm just upset I paid like $90 for this. I came here just so I can have a Japanese stylist too... You can see that chunk of hair just chopped and not blended :/

Yelp
This place is so... good! I was referred by a friend for their great service and also because they understand Asian hair. I went for a colored ombre dye job. For someone who normally does't pay more than $30 for a women's haircut, I definitely found it to be a pretty high price tag. Still, I feel like I really got what I paid for-- relaxing service and an even better color look than I expected. My hair stylist bleached and colored my hair and the process took about 5 hours. She was attentive to me, and I could tell she was meticulous and thoughtful about everything she was doing. She was also lovely and warm to work with. The way she designed my hair made it look even better than all the photos I showed her-- and better than I imagined. She's a super talented stylist! This place is on the pricey side for sure. If you are OK with spending more to get a high quality outcome, it's worth considering!

Lance W.

Yelp
I was going for see-through curtain bangs. Though they cut my bangs too short. I did not get the haircut I wanted, however, they were very kind to give me a FULL refund. They were quite accommodating and it's clear this place cares deeply about customer satisfaction.

Vena K.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a few years and my normal stylist left the salon. So I decided to try a new stylist, I would say service is great and you are welcomed. But the quality I received for my hair was average at best for the price I paid. She washed my hair in 2-3 minutes tops and I have really long hair. There were still soap left on the side of my face when she finished. She cut my hair before washing to see texture and cut after washing for length. In the end I was not shown the back of my hair, she went ahead to style it before showing me. The result did not turn out so great and my hair did not blend in, instead looks choppy. My service back in 2019 was $80 with a wash, cut, and blowout. She charged me $100 for a wash of 3 minutes, choppy hair, and a blowout. I would say save your money for a better quality salon.

Yelp
I loved my experience at Kida! I recommend Kumi highly! She is very talented, but even better she listens to exactly what you want, and tells you what she is about to do! Very good for me as I have long hair and also like it to stay long! She was so nice and calm and didn't rush my cut, she even made sure it was perfect and it was exactly what I wanted! Tipp: i walked in and asked for an appointment and got one same day, if I had booked online I only could have gotten an appointment on October 17th.

Yelp
I got Mami as my hairdresser and I recommend her to everyone who wants to dye his/her hair. I went to Kida for a retouch on my dark root. Wanted a blonde color yet without bleach. Mami provided me a very satisfying result! She also trimmed a little bit of my hair and now I like my shorter bang hair so much. We also had a enjoyable conversation... 5 stars for everything!

Yelp
I liked everything about my first visit here. They were super safe, nice and treated me so well. My hair looked great and I'll definitely come back.

Yelp
The best spot in NYC. The rustic vibe is amazing, the location is convenient, the staff is incredibly friendly. Of course, the most important part is that the haircuts and service are fantastic! I refuse to go anywhere else. I get my cuts with Shin and he is very skilled but you can't go wrong with any of the others.

Yelp
Honestly I think it's a testament that this is the first and only yelp review I'll ever do. I'd been looking for a good barbershop since I moved here a few months ago and a friend of mine referred me to KIDA. I booked with Taka and genuinely received the best haircut and barbershop experience I'd ever had. He was super easy and pleasing to talk despite it being our first encounter and I'm definitely going to become a regular here. Very easy-going, calm and attentive service and for that I'm super appreciative. Highly recommend to anyone.

Yelp
Recommended by a couple who are regulars. I am very pleased with my new look. K did a great job! I have thick wavy unruly hair that's demanding to cut properly. Between a photo that I brought and her suggestions we decided on a look and boy did she execute! Best cut in years. Will be back. By the way the neck shoulder massage is worth it if you have the time! Everyone who walked out looked fab. Back for 2nd cut after 6 months. Went very short and very happy with cut. K is great. Bring photos of what you want.

Jar K.

Yelp
Extremely overpriced for the service I received. The barber really hit me up with the "I'm just gonna cut it the way I want" after I explained to him what I wanted before the cut. Dude spoke perfect English but didn't talk once during the entire cut. I washed my hair and it's a Supercuts haircut. I could've gotten the same cut for $40 less than what they charged. Oh and no hot cream/straight razor like they mention on their website. I should've put more weight on the bad reviews that were on yelp about this place. Will not be going back

Cody S.

Yelp
Awful service - showed up a few minutes late (after calling to confirm this is ok) and was denied a haircut. Would not recommend.
google avatar

Luan T.

Yelp
This is my first time here and it is my last time. I have to say, service and attitude of people there are really good and polite. It is a salon though, I do care about the hair style they designed. I used to be mid- long hair and I so believed my hair stylist and let him to perform his art on my hair. However this was what I got. After I got home, I realized some parts of my hair did not look good, like the part I circled. I am so disappointed, but due to manner, I would like not to say in front of them. The thing bothers me is I spend time and money, and I did not get the result I want it, well not even close to my expected result. BTW, I used gel to style my hair to look OK for these photos. I do not care the length of my hair, as long as I want to look good overall.

Arlu G.

Yelp
Thrilled to say that I had a most delightful first appointment with Shin at Kida NYC. From the moment you walk in the door, the ambience at the salon is warm, friendly and accommodating. Happy to note that immediately, COVID protocols were strictly enforced. Shin, who hails from a family of stylists, is great to work with. He took time to clarify what I wanted for my haircut, explained what he was going to do, and gave me a fantastic cut that I am very happy with. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I will definitely come back.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Got a haircut from the lovely Mami. She's awesome in all the right ways. She is very attentive- asked if the pressure and temperature was ok- offered tea or water or coffee. She is also super flattering- talked about how she likes the texture and softness of my hair when in reality, my hair hasn't been cut in over a year. She also makes great conversation and recommendations for my next vacation. And best of all, so precise on the haircut. I love this place. I found this place after my usual hair Kuwayama basically didn't pick up the phone for two days (couldn't make an appointment), i found Kida after some research and I think I'm gonna be a regular here from now on.
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
Went in for a men's haircut. In my opinion, it was meh, simple shave down without much techniques. I wouldn't say it was bad but I've had other barber who invested more time and effort with better techniques at this price range.
google avatar

C. Diggory R.

Yelp
Popped in to see if there were any walk-in spots today and it turned out Aki had an open appointment in the barbershop. Aki really listened for what I was going for, and executed it perfectly. He was super detail-oriented and gave me advice for maintaining my curly/frizzy hair going forward. Friendly, warm, and focused on the job. I've been to a lot of places where it feels like the "simple men's haircut" is treated as a one-size-fits-all rush job, but Aki handled it with skill, precision, and care. Seriously one of the best haircut experiences I've had. The place itself is clean, bright, and filled with friendly & relaxing vibes. Aki mentioned that people sometimes wander in off the street thinking Kida is a coffee shop. Makes sense - it's cute. This was my first time at Kida and I will definitely be going back.

Yelp
Been coming here for a year, great service, friendly staff, nice environment, convenient location, would recommend to anyone.
google avatar

Don K.

Yelp
Paid Fausto $25+tip to walk out feeling like a billion dollars. Seriously one of the best fades in NYC for the price. It's $40 for a full haircut with scissors, but only $25 if you only want your sides buzzed, or if you have a buzzcut like me and only need the buzzer for a full haircut.

David H.

Yelp
Amateur haircut and costly to boot! The person who cut my hair was perfectly nice, but the minute I sat down I can tell that they were inexperienced. They relied on me telling them what number hair clip to use. Which I would expect from some random corner store barber, not some pricey Japanese salon. Haircut was bad, cost extra for a wash, hard pass.
google avatar

Natasha O.

Yelp
I needed a haircut last minute to trim up a short women's haircut. Mami cut my hair and she did a brilliant job. The service was lovely and the location was beautiful. Mami was a great conversationalist and did the haircut fast too. Very talented!!!
google avatar

Wenyen H.

Yelp
The designer is professional and fast, however, the hair washing costs additional 10 dollar, but I found the job was done fairly carelessly and it's not worth for 10 dollar! The hair washer just want to finished her job as soon as possible and barely any massage
google avatar

Jean B.

Yelp
I am so impressed by this salon that I'm taking some time to do a serious review. Hands down, this is one of the most tasteful and relaxing salons in town, bright and airy with lovely decor. I have been to several salons in and around the city including other Japanese hair salons, and this is the only place I have consistently come back to more than three times, and very happy every time! I get my cuts from Kumi. She's fantastically skillful and does amazing work. My hair is very dense, thick, and coarse and it hasn't been an issue at all here; her technique and eye for hair design is great. The quality of service, product, and atmosphere at Kida is spot on. They also have an adjacent barber shop inside for the guys who like a slightly the barbar shop environment. I very happy to find a mainstay salon that has shown to be great each time. Highly recommend you check it out!
google avatar

Yelp
Best fade and service ever. I'll never go anywhere else! Been coming here almost two years? Took me six years of looking around New York to find this level of attention to detail, hospitality, and professionalism. I've been to places that charge much more but they don't come close (Blind Barber, I wanted to like you). All kidding aside, I don't know how I'll manage if I didn't have these folks. Most courteous and friendliest people you'll meet. Long overdue review.

Veronica L.

Yelp
Japanese hair salon that is a cut above the rest! I had my hair cut by Ma Mi, who has great workmanship/attention to detail and gives great advice for hair maintenance for after you leave the salon. While I am attached to my long-er hair, I was definitely ready to see it go. I felt completely at ease and trusting with Ma Mi giving me a shorter style. 110% recommended. I should also mention the salon uses high quality products and the staff is extremely professional and polite. If you're reading this, thanks Ma Mi!
google avatar

Llano O.

Yelp
They worked a miracles on my hair and gave me perfect product recommendations to keep it looking great. I try to go back every 2 weeks now. Great stylists, comfortable and clean space, and attentive employees at the front desk. The prices are also much lower than they have to be. Extremely happy to have found it!
google avatar

Alexander W.

Yelp
I've been looking for KIDA my whole dang life. In the previous two places I lived, I'd found two reliable go-to barbers. They're were 4.6-4.8 stars for sure and I miss them. But YOHEI at Kida is 5.0+ because he's so trustworthy and precise, and can legit read my hair vision, that I fall asleep and it feels meditative. I'm not lying!
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
Update: I will never come to KIDA ever again. They reschedule my appointment without notification. The barbers are great but terrible business practice. They don't take into account weekend transportation issues with the MTA. If your late, your not getting your haircut. They will not fill you in. I guess not all business is considered making.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
KIDA pays intricate attention to detail, in its aesthetic selection of decor and organic products, and in partnering with the some of the friendliest humans in New York. It's encouragement for self-expression and openness to all forms of beauty provides a space for pure self-care for all city-dwellers. Smiles are warm and welcoming, and constantly sincere.

Yelp
Kida NYC is by far the most incredible barbershop in NYC. Hands down. The employee's are super friendly and helpful. The shop is designed beautifully and the service is always impeccable. So far I have cut my hair with Shin and Yohei and they are super cool and always walk me through the haircut and recommend other hairstyles that may look better. I have struggled with bad barbers who try to cut your hair as fast as they can to get to the next client but at Kida, the staff is there to make you look your best and they know how to do it well!!!
google avatar

Samantha A.

Yelp
So I should begin by saying that I was a hair model here and got a free haircut (short hair models only needed) by Yuki, who is their assistant and student in the studio. So my experience may be different from others who paid full price and had the full salon experience with a member of staff. However, I had such a great experience that I felt I should leave a review. All the staff was so lovely and accommodating, continually asking me if I was comfortable, if I was warm enough, etc. It was a very soothing atmosphere with great music. Yuki was so sweet and gave me a fantastic haircut that was just what I wanted. I keep getting compliments on it! I will definitely be back when this one grows out! Thanks Yuki!
google avatar

Gabrielle M.

Yelp
I love Kumi at Kida. She took my hair from dark brown to a lovely healthy blonde and i've gone to her for years now. This is the only salon I'll go to in NYC and the salon is super cute inside.

Yelp
I gotta say, I am extremely protective of my long hair, and have a very hard time trusting new hair stylists with it. Since I just moved to NYC a couple of months ago, I knew I needed to find a place with great reviews, and amazing/proven staff. KIDA WAS MY ANSWERED PRAYER. After reading numerous amazing reviews about MJ, I decided to book my hair cut with him, and I was not disappointed. He first sat me down and took the time to ask me questions about what I wanted, what I didn't want, how I normally wear my hair, how often I cut my hair, etc. This immediately made me feel comfortable leaving my hair in his capable hands. Haha he seemed extremely genuine and really wanted to make sure I got my best hair cut. The shampooing & back/neck massage was incredible! They really go above and beyond any other salon I've ever been to. They took their time to shampoo, condition, brush out all my tangles, and massage. Definitely one of my favorite parts of the day! MJ was a genius with my hair! After having a hair cut from him, I can tell how poor my previous hair cuts have been, in comparison. Will definitely be referring Kida to all my friends! Thanks, MJ!

Yelp
I loved the atmosphere of the shop and my haircut is OK, but I feel that the customer service here is lacking. I got my haircut by the same person I did last time, but she completely forgot me and reintroduced herself. I went along with it to not make the situation awkward. My haircut is a lot shorter than I would like, but I know it'll grow back. She told me she would only cut an inch off and next thing I know, at least three inches are gone and I look like a little boy. She even asked if she could cut more hair off of my bangs. I feel that she wanted to cut my hair more for herself than for me. I know that sounds kind of odd since this place has raving reviews, but while I was getting my haircut, the owner walked by and said 「むかつく」basically slang to express your disgust with someone. But when he spoke English, he sounded really friendly. It's kind of off-putting to know that they'll be friendly in English but talk behind your back in Japanese. When I went to go pay, the assistant and receptionist were going back and forth on my price in Japanese (60 vs 70). They then charged me $70. The last time I was here, and got a haircut of the same length, it was $60. It doesn't seem that they have a consistent pricing guideline, which means they can charge you whatever they want. Basically, be more transparent with your pricing and don't speak in Japanese (especially if your clients can understand you) because it's rude. If you go to a nail salon, it's frowned upon for the nail technicians to speak in a different language, it's the same in any situation.
google avatar

Emm C.

Yelp
Totally random find as I was getting coffee and on my way to some Chinatown food. Mio gave me a layered cut here. It was $73 and no complaints here. It sounds like a lot for straight hair but when yu get a bad one, you'll feel every $ is worth it. Cuz then I end up spending that much in hair product to correct a bad cut!

Yelp
Exceptional. I am male, but chose to go with the salon over the barber shop for my first visit. The massage was spot on. And my stylist, Yuki, took the time to truly understand what I wanted. She did a brilliant job. Will definitely go back!!! () Probably the best salon experience I have ever had.

Yelp
Wow I can't believe I got yelp only for this but they so deserve it. I was looking for Japanese hair salons in NYC that were reasonably priced and near my house, and Kida seemed to have very good reviews so I just went with it. Initially I wanted to get both an undercut and color, but I changed my mind when I spoke with them because I couldn't afford the color. However, $200~250 for color really is a good deal in NYC, especially since I have very dark brown hair and I would need to bleach them more than once to get a gray/whitish color. So, when I get the money, I'll probably to it. My hairstylist was literally A Goddess. I had reference pictures, and we worked through them to reach the ideal cut. I was also the one who given a massage. I was also offered water or tea, but I had it before so I refused. The hairstylist and me chatted while she cut my hair, and she always made sure that I liked it or asked me some questions. I felt very comfortable and relaxed all the time I stayed at Kida. To style my hair, she first asked me what type of wax I would prefer, and then she used the one that made my hair have a wet look. Guys, that wax smelled amazing. I'm not kidding, it's like honey and happiness mixed all together. When I came home I couldn't stop telling my sister to smell it. It is that good, trust me. Although outside was snowing a bit, I refused to take my hood over my head. I couldn't literally stop myself from looking at my reflection in the shop windows. Call it vanity, but I look awesome. The haircut it's the perfect balance between genders, it's very androgynous and I love it so much. I payed for my hair cut around $70. Kida is definitely the best Japanese hair salon in nyc I've ever went to!

Yelp
After reading reviews on Yelp, I decided to book an appointment at Kida to salvage my dried out hair and change up my look a bit. My hair is naturally fine and relatively straight, so stylists usually have an easy time cutting my hair. But after getting two different wavy perms in the past two years and no deep moisturizing treatment, my hair became dull, frizzy, and unhealthy. My biggest concern was getting some shine and silkiness back into my hair while working with a stylist to get a flattering cut. Mio was my stylist and she was very sweet and professional. She was patient and listened to my concerns. I didn't mind how much she cut to get rid of the unhealthiness, but it was really nice that I was able to keep some length even after she cut my hair. We decided to go for a side bang. I've had bangs a few times before, but I've never loved them (either too scant or made me look like a 12 year old), but Mio shaped them nicely and now 4 weeks and a trim later I still love them! Most importantly, she recommended a moisturizing treatment that she told me upfront would be an additional $20 to the cost of the cut (I think usually around $40 bucks on it's own?). She used Milbon Deesee's 4-step hair treatment for medium hair and I can't praise it enough. This stuff seriously transformed my hair and has kept it silky and smooth. I was sent home with individually packaged conditioners to use at home every week for 4 weeks, which maintained the quality of the treatment that was done in the salon. Highly recommended!! My last point is that on the website they indicate that hair cuts for women range from $50-$80 depending on length. Just fyi my hair is slightly under my shoulders and I was charged $70. I was really happy with my free tea, shoulder and scalp massage, hair treatment (+$20 on top of cut price), and session with Mio, so I found it to be worth it.

Yelp
I never write reviews, but feel the need to do so and address some of the negative reviews I've read. I've been coming to Kida ever since they opened last year after my boyfriend (who followed Fausto from a different barber shop) insisted I come check it out. Kumi is hands down the best stylist I've ever had. She's also is an incredible colorist and gives the most amazing blow outs. Honestly, she is worth twice as much as what you pay here. The reviews about poor customer service seriously blow my mind. The people who work here are not only all extremely talented, but SO nice and professional. Everything about this salon from the work they do to the decor is thoughtful and deliberate, and the way they treat their customers is no different. The bad reviews are almost funny, because they're just so not true!
