Food: Absolutely Amazing
Atmosphere: Mediocre
Service: Incredibly poor
My husband and I went out for an impromptu sushi dinner on a Friday night and were excited to check out a new restaurant that had opened in our neighborhood. There is a large sign hanging on the restaurant that says "Soft Opening", but in actuality, it has already been opened for a couple months.
Anyway, when we drove up, the small lot in front of the restaurant was a bit chaotic, however there is a large lot just behind it with plenty of space. Upon entering the restaurant, I was not impressed. It is a large open room, with not a lot of ambiance. There are three large TV screens along the wall. Two played sports and the other played news. Additionally, there was loud club style music playing. With the club music, and the restaurant being crowded, it took me a little time to adjust to the noise level so I could have a conversation with my husband.
We were seated quickly and our first portion of our order was taken which consisted of a bottle of sake and oyster shooters. Unfortunately after that, the service drifted off. I wasn't terribly impressed with the sake menu, as there was only one type of nigori, which was a basic one, but at least they had that one.
The oyster shooters were absolutely delicious. They had sake and quail eggs. I would definitely recommend them.
It took a while for the server to take our dinner order. Then it took longer to come out. We finished our bottle of sake, and wanting more since our dinner hadn't yet come, had to call a food runner to get our server. We ordered the Bluefin tuna medley which was my favorite thing I ate that night. It was so fresh and tender. They told us to wrap the tuna in the seaweed and dip it in the sauce. Unfortunately, there were six pieces of sushi and only four pieces of seaweed which was odd. The Alaska roll was amazing. Sometimes I don't like rolls because they hide the fish, but this highlighted the fish and was flavorful without feeling heavy at all. We had ordered the Spanish Mackerel Nigiri, but it never came out. Twice, a server came out to check to see what we had ordered and what we had received. My husband was facing the back of the restaurant and said that he saw lots of confusion over the tickets. We had arrived at 6:30 and it was after 8:00 with no indication of the Mackerel coming. I called over a server and asked if it was coming up, otherwise asked for the check. She took some time to find out and told me it would still be a little while. We asked for the check instead, as we had just been sitting around too long. At that moment, a different server brought the Mackerel, and then they asked if we wanted it. we decided to take it, as it was right there. It also was tender and delicious. However, I think it really should have been taken off our bill since we were ready to leave at the point.
All in all, the food is absolutely amazing. Maybe we will consider giving this another try in a few months when service is better. However, it is still not my favorite atmosphere to sit and have dinner.
