KIJITORA East

One of my favorite matcha places. This specifically is my favorite location out of the 4. I’m pretty sure it’s the original and since it’s a little farther away from the crowds, it’s not as busy. I highly recommend trying the strawberry matcha, mango matcha and tiramisu latte. They also have good vegan banana bread.

Great, wide range of drink selection! I got the black sesame white chocolate latte and it was perfect. The texture was light, sweet, and a balance of flavor. There were chunks of white chocolate that settled near the bottom, but I personally liked the textural variety, though it might not be for everyone. My friend got the mango matcha and it was also perfect. Vibrant green color, sweet flavor, and fresh mango mixed in. Both did not taste artificial or seem diluted/milky. Service was fast as they keep their concentrated matcha chilled in squeeze-bottles. The atmosphere is cute and they have cat-themed trinkets and stickers around the store. I will definitely be coming back!

i live near kijitora and visit almost every day. i love everything i’ve ever ordered, especially the miso mocha (my current obsession), their mango and strawberry matcha, and the miso salmon onigiri. i also love the little trinkets they sell. i wish it was a bigger space or at least had more seats but i love kijitora! definitely the best matcha i’ve had in nyc.

Awful customer service at Kijitora east today. Ordered a roasted Kabocha cardamom latte ( pictured) and the barista spilt the drink it all over the cup and put wayyyy too much cinnamon. She handed the dripping mess to me and I wiped it up but still couldn’t drink it because I was inhaling cinnamon! I gave it back to her saying I can’t drink this and instead of offering to make me a new drink she tried to scoop out the cinnamon and handed it back to me. I ended up throwing it out because it was disgusting. It’s the second Kijitora branch I’ve been to where service has been poor. I won’t be going here again.

The place was small and busy, but the service was quick and friendly. We tried the strawberry matcha latte and it was pretty good — sweet and refreshing! But the tiramisu latte? Amazing!!!! So rich and creamy. Overall, such a great find!

One of the best iced matcha lattes I’ve had (w/ oat milk). Ordered with a little bit of honey and it was perfectly balanced. The matcha has a somewhat grassy taste and is fresh and light. The shop is small but a nice place to work if you can grab a seat. Ample outlets as well.

My FAVORITE strawberry iced matcha in nyc - it’s so delicious. The tiramisu latte is also an incredible sweet treat. I definitely recommend!

Bigger space than the other one! Probably can't get work done here unless you sit outside. Matcha tasted great. Mango tasted fresh! ~$8 per cup.

My boyfriend and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality of drinks at Kijitora! Upon entering, the interior of the store was small and cozy, which added to its charm, there was a long line through the door but the workflow at Kijitora was really fluid and quick paced. They were very efficient in taking orders and getting them out to customers. The entire experience felt very smooth. The customer service was also very solid and helpful! We ended up ordering several drinks to try with friends, we got the strawberry matcha, black sesame, hoji latte, as well as the tiramisu latte. Every single drink we tried was truly exceptional, the flavors were rich and pronounced, and everything was very smooth and not overly sweet. We really enjoyed everything that we tried! I'm really glad we tried this place, and will definitely be back! TLDR; good service, quick and efficient, and great drinks!

This is an adorable cat theme cafe with speciality drinks that I highly recommend ordering with a rice ball. The space is super chill and quiet to read a book or relax with friends. I was deciding between a tiramisu latte and black sesame latte. I asked the cashier which one they would recommend since I previously had an ultra sweet and strong mocha from another cafe earlier that day. He explained the sweetness level/profile for both drinks and recommended alternations I can make to whichever drink I ordered. I ordered the black sesame latte with less sweetness and no espresso shot. This was a very soothing latte that kept me warm and wasn't too heavy on the sweetness or too caffeinated. I will most definitely be coming back to try their other speciality drinks and rice balls

I think I have to come back because I came especially for the neko grilled cheese and didn't try much else. The space is a lot smaller than pictured and on Instagram - I'm tired of Instagram with the misrepresentations. That being said, the space is set up nicely with a seat outside and 4/5 tables inside with a high top inside too for seating. There is a small wall of cat themed knick knacks for sale - tote bags for $20, stickers for $2, etc. The neko grilled cheese itself was $10 and it was good but once you take away the ears, it's really just a grilled cheese right? It does have butter inside and a decent amount of the provolone I chose, and butter as well. The staff are nice, and I'm glad they let me know the wait for just the grilled cheese alone was 20 mins. I'm also sad, I let them know I'd be sitting outside but they gave me a togo box instead of the cutting board presentation. I'll try to go the other location without the grilled cheeses to try the drinks.

(Overall: A) - Kijitora is a small boutique coffee shop in the Williamsburg area with some Asian takes on Western cafes. I was particularly intrigued by their Black Sesame Latte, which I added a shot of espresso. The presentation is simple yet elegant and the black sesame I think adds an interesting premise, although I would've liked the sesame flavor to be more forward as the primarily sesame flavor came from the garnish. The subtle notes of white chocolate is a smart sweetener that is not overpowering in such a way that turns the drink into a milk shake. In addition to this, I would've loved to try out a lot of their menu as it was quite innovating, but I had more food plans after. The shop is a bit cramped but had the necessary components and is cute. Took my dog on a walk around the neighborhood, stopped by to check out what various fun drinks this place has to offer. Ended up ordering lavender milk tea and salmon onigiri (rice ball). I would not recommend the lavender milk tea; basically drinking sweet milk with lavender as decorative topping. Doubt the lavender flowers have that flavor, likely lavender syrup. The rice ball was good, but nothing special. Aside from this disappointing milk tea, they're fairly well priced.

Iced Matcha Latte - 3/5 you can make a much better one at home for a lot cheaper, so it's not worth getting this item here in my opinion. Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte, Iced Mango Matcha Latte, and Red Bean Matcha Latte - 4.5/5 sweet and delicious, definitely worth trying. Ham and Cheese Croissant - 2.5/5 nothing special, the croissant was pretty flaky but small. Tuna Melt Sandwich with cheddar (available at this location on weekends) - 2.5/5 pretty cheesy but barely had any tuna, disappointing for the price Service - 4.5/5 Ambiance - 3.5/5 clean and bright, and there's some limited seating but it's a bit cramped

Adorable is an understatement. Not only does the cat theme amp up this quaint and cozy japanese cafe, the drinks here will knock your socks off. Please get the strawberry matcha latte, it's quite the best ive had in the city because their puree is 10/10. Baristas are super sweet and bring the food + drinks to you. I can honestly spend all day here and people watch. Bonus: free WiFi, outlets, and restroom for customers! Will most likely be here every weekend haha.

I got an oat milk iced matcha unsweetened and it was good! Very strong matcha and you can tell it's great quality! Overall loved the drink, however the beef sukiyaki onigiri was disappointing. It was 95% rice with little to no filling :( Maybe it was just an off day. I will say the onigiri was very fairly priced and the staff is SO nice and sweet!

Cute little cafe. My friend and I walked by and decided to grab a quick drink while we were wandering the area. Nice quiet cafe to read a book, do work, coffee date or just hang out. They have cute little stationary and accessories for purchase by the cashier. We didn't have a chance to try the food, maybe next time! The staff was friendly.

Very cute place they sold some merch like tote bags and stickers! The staff were very nice I got the dirty sesame latte. The drink was overall good but I feel like it could have stronger in sesame flavor. I couldn't really taste the expresso though. I can't comment on their other drinks

Food is tasty. Had a Nemo Cheddar grilled cheese w out the sauce. It was delicious! They make their own car shaped bread for this. Also had a mentaiko (cod roe) onigiri was good and surprisingly mildly spicy, and an iced sakura oat milk. Delicious! If you want a quiet cafe with ample seating, avoid coming here. The bummer is there is always food on the floor and since the floor is dark, guess that stands out and especially when you're sitting at the slat tables. See pic. The drink selections are phenomenal and all Japanese inspired except for a few basics like cold brew, mocha, flat white etc. Service is good. Always polite and they do their best to work quickly. They also sell cute little cat ceramics, totes, stickers, cards, ink stamps, and calendars. I do recommend Kijitora!

me: I'm a coffee snob. coffee: The coffee sourced for Kijitora is specialty coffee and well-sourced (usual culprits like central america and Ethiopia for region). Ayaha is a fantastic barista and pulls great espresso and makes a very flavorful pour-over coffee. If you're a proper coffee person you can't go wrong with choosing this as your next staple spot. It's in my top 5 for quality of coffee drinks. alt milks are avail for those folks. ambiance: good place for a chat with friends, a laptop session for a few hours, the location is close to a few subways (Bedford L) and very cozy. Cat decor is cute. Low key but jazzy. I dig it. Think lo-fi girl but a cafe. food: The rice used in onigiri is made very well and tasty, its hard to find a place that reminds me of getting fresh food in Japan but Kijitora is close. other: the specialty drinks like the kabocha latte or getting a proper hojicha are reasons to choose this cafe over others as those options are generally not available. Their matcha is also higher grade than whatever your local cafe is using (see garbage grocery store powder). It matters.

We came on a Friday afternoon, and it wasn't too busy, but the space was very small. I don't think I would come here to study because I'm a little claustrophobOrdered three types of Onigiri- cod, miso salmon, and the Chasu pork. I think the barista heard wrong and accidentally gave us the seaweed. We requested a change, and were given the correct order in less than 5 minutes. The matcha latte was rich, and not grainy. It was sweetened already, and was a little sweeter than what I preferred, but still a solid latte. 8/10 :) My issue is the Onigiri. They put in almost no filling, and I didn't taste any strong flavor in my salmon. (3/10) My friend ordered the Cod Onigiri and was satisfied with the taste, and amount of filling. He rated it a solid 7/10. My other friend tried the chasu pork, and also complained of the scarce amount of filling. He also did not find the seasoning of pork particularly interesting either. Rated it a 2.5/10 If I'm ever back in the area, I wouldn't try the Onigiri, but would instead order a drink. Their drinks sounded really good!

Stumbled across this cafe as I was walking so decided to work there for an hour. They have great Wi-Fi and the vibe is super relaxing and pretty quiet. The vibes were 10/10, maybe one of my favorite cafes I've ever been to in the city Had the yuzu ginger fizz while my friend has the hoji latte - both were delish. I liked that the miso salmon onigiri was pretty large and warm, wish it had a little more filling though!
