SLC’s longest-running all-ages venue—a humble garage where big careers start. Covered widely by regional press; its growing Kilby Block Party festival underscores the city’s indie music momentum.

Google
Such a great little venue for local up and coming bands. We Went to see the band Almond Extract and they were amazing! It is fun to see All the bands interact with each other in such a joyful fun way. They do offer water at the door but no other food or drink services.

Google
Such an awesome small venue! I love the personal vibe here, it’s great. Getting to actually make eye contact (and maybe meet) small artists is the best!

Google
this place is so kewl! not too spacious but it's good bc you're closer to the artist and it has really good sound!!

Google
Super cool venue. Saw Wild Party here amd it was a once in a lifetime experience. Intimate setting so you get the full experience. Everything shuts down at 11 so unless your in the merch line you get kicked out. Could be a touch friendlier

Dannon Loveland

Google
Fun venue! People there were nice. Bathrooms were janky, but (maybe) added to the charm.

Google
Tiny garage venue, it feels like what concerts are supposed to be! Bigger venues with overpriced food and drinks have caused events to feel more like cash grabs. I love the fact that this place is able to give us a chance to fully support smaller artists/bands! It is a little cramped, but seeing the years of stickers on the walls from past concerts really helps brings the vibe together!

Google
I was there last night and the bands were amazing. I come all the time and love it. My experience last night was different because the only dude working there was after me the whole time. I had a clear water bottle that he said I couldn't bring in even if I dumped it, so I had to walk all the way back to my car, which I don't really understand why I can't bring in an empty water bottle y'all have more security than an airport. But whatever, not a big deal. Not even 5 mins later I try to reenter and he comes after me asking to see me stamp. He saw maybe a few people after me, I seriously doubt he forgot that he just let me in. Then my friend who brought me, who was hired by Bleacher Babe to be a photographer brought me through the artist entrance (where all the photographers were coming through) and he came and yelled at us saying we had to leave. I spoke up for her saying she was hired and he didn't believe us. He said we weren't on the list, which how in the world would he know that he didn't even ask for our names. Then he kicked us out of there so we just went to the normal entrance and she struggled to get any good photos. Just not a flexible guy in the slightest. Pissed off energy for a $10 concert with mostly family and friends. It's not that deep, normally your staff is friendly and communicative. I don't know what was up here.

Google
Interesting venue. We came to see some friends perform. The place is a hole in the wall. The vibe of this place is confusing - a small stage in a shed surrounded by a mix of run-down buildings filled with trash. Graffiti and stickers on nearly every surface including inside the toilet bowl. Some buildings are boarded up and nowhere to park. Seating is limited to the first 8 people who can sit on benches outside. Be prepared to stand a long time. They charge extra to run a card so bring cash.

Yelp
Loved the small intimate venue! Parking was a little rough but everything else was lovely. I was so happy to support a small artist I've been following for a while and it was so nice to be so close up and personal.

Yelp
It's been a few years since I've been to kilby, but I'm glad I went back! It felt like seeing an old friend. The venue is great for seeing bands that haven't blown up yet, and you can actually talk to them afterword. It's a pretty intimate experience. I saw Local Natives there back in the day and it remains one of the coolest music experiences I've had! A few FYI(s): the crowd trends young. Music is for everyone and I personally don't care if I'm the oldest person at a show, but it does feel like showing up to a party you haven't been invited to. The bathroom is terrifying and feels like someone will jump out of the locked closet with a chainsaw, but adds to the garage-esque aesthetic. I'd still take this bathroom over the urban lounge lol. In general I love that SLC has venues like this holding strong, and a safe place for kids to hang out and see live music.

Jake C.

Yelp
So fun!! Loved it. Great vibes. I have been here a handful of times and seen a bunch of different acts and every act was unique and fun and the crowd was always engaged.

Yelp
Awesome small town vibes venue that is pretty sweet. I have seen some super rad bands here and it's one of those iconic spots you just have to go to if you live in Salt Lake City. Definitely a hidden gem you'll have to know about or be going to for something specific. All ages so ya know that's pretty chill.

Yelp
I used to go here when i was younger too, and the place is just as hip now as it was back then. Very SLC puNk 3ish rock and freakin' roll baby!!! So i decided to use it in the up coming film, slc punk 3d a show to experience not just go to. Yeah alright!!!
google avatar

Monica D.

Yelp
It's decent enough for the price you pay. It's a good place to listen to upcoming artists in Utah. My only complaint is the writing on the walls. There are some awful things written on it. They claim to be family friendly, however, I would not take my kids there because of the walls.
google avatar

Yelp
Had an amazing time here. It's like going to that secret all-ages low-fi club that your friends run out of a basement or garage somewhere in the city. It's old and funky, but it shimmers too. The way the space is set up is perfect for meeting people and talking to the bands and stuff ... We from out of town and saw Camp Cope here and it was one of my favorite shows ever. Sorta wish the venue sold beer though, but it's still totally boss. I'd go back in a second.

Yelp
looking for some sick, local shows? if so, kilby is the place to go!! the tickets were inexpensive, and the show a group of friends and i went to see was phenomenal! the venue is really cool, and the wall of fame in their merch area was a cute place to take a photo! masks and social distancing are enforced here, so there's no need to feel worried about coming in contact with covid-19. all the staff was really nice and helpful! thanks for the great time !! :)

Yelp
Ohh Kilby Court. Brings back a lot of great memories. Kilby Court is a great place that caters to all ages with a rather strict no drinking and no fighting rules, makes it a great place for everyone. Kilby is and has always been owned by Salt Lake locals. First started by a man named Phil (if i remember correctly) and his wife Leia Bell (who is an amazing artist and does all the flyers still for Kilby). Kilby was once originally tiny little garage space in the older part of Salt Lake, which was then converted into one of the best venues in Utah. Now owned by Will Sartain and Lance Saunders, both local artists. Also ran for the most part by a lil lady who goes by Lil Miss Corey. Ohh and the two Kilby dogs that always run around. All shows for the most part run around $8. Every band that goes through Kilby Court is there for the music and "you" the audience. With such a small crowd, most bands love to roast marshmallows and tell stories over the open fire pit after a night of great music. A lot of todays greatest bands got started by stopping at Kilby Court while on tour. I started going here way back when. I go so often still, I can't remember which was my first show at kilby and what was the most recent. Kilby being owned by locals gives local bands the chance for others to hear there music when no one else will. Kilby has always drawn a large crowd to almost all of the shows. Which only promises good time with a lot of great memories. Kilby might be a small venue but they have been playing great music with even better shows since 1999. A great little place to relax and hear some of the next big bands and some who already made it big. Always worth the trip and you will never leave with a bad story.

Yelp
Wow this place is run down...I felt like I was sneaking into someone's mom's backyard to see a garage concert. You have to walk down a creepy alley first, and at night in SLC this felt off for me. Creepy vibes. The concert tix online were $20 each, not bad at all for ticket prices but you get what you pay for. No bar, standing room only. We were super crammed in, like my face was 2 inches away from some dudes back. Both of us kept getting bumped into. Couldn't see the band at all. It's literally a 4 car garage that they fit at least 100 people into along with the band. Not comfortable at all. Was surprised that this band attracted mostly 20 year olds, so maybe its fun for the "young" crowd. Wouldn't go back.

Yelp
I've discovered so many incredible acts here. I actually saw Walk the Moon here a number of years ago before they blew up. This is THE place to go if you want to see an inexpensive yet fun local show.

Shondra H.

Yelp
It was a fun little venue. It's tucked away in an alley and the bathrooms are across the street (but in the same vicinity) it is pretty much just in a converted garage-- nothing fancy.

Lindsey P.

Yelp
This has become my favorite venue in Utah. It's different from the others I've been to because it's very small, but that's what makes it great. If large crowds get on your nerves, but you love live music, this is the place to go. You can be right up close to the band, and it's a great place to meet new people (including the performers) and expose yourself to lesser known artists. Kilby Court is building community that makes Salt Lake City a better place to live, and I hope it stays open for many years to come.

Max C.

Yelp
Really cool place, I didn't know what to expect when I first saw the photos of the place. It's a kind of garage with an open court area. It has a cool aesthetic that's for sure. The sound is great, like hurt your ears great; I mean that as a good thing. They have ear plugs at the event, so if that would put you off, don't worry about it. There is a few minor issues I should point out, which is why it's not a full 5 stars. Consider this review more of a 4 and a half star. There is a few benches around a fire place, but one of them is broken. The bathroom is a little dirty. The place is very punk rock, so it actually adds to the aesthetic. I'm more just pointing it out because someone might have an issue of it. Other than that, pretty sweet.

Hanna G.

Yelp
One of my favorite venues to see local bands. It's little, and mostly outside, but the vibes are the best. I've never seen a show here and been disappointed- such a great place

Yelp
dearest Kilby Court, I know we hardly see each other anymore, but I want you to know that I still think about you from time to time. there's a lot of stuff about you that I know others would find conventionally weird or creepy, but to me it is all absolutely endearing. so, as for the things I like (a lot), let me list a few: - the unpaved alley I have to venture down to find you - the garage in which you reside - your tiny, approximately four inch high stage - the string of Christmas lights adorning that stage - the support pillar in the middle of the floor that I regularly leaned against in order to ensure a good spot while waiting for subpar opening bands to wrap up - the concrete floor (you, know, the one I sat cross-legged on, blissfully listening to Low until I had to get up to avoid drunk kid vomit) - the concessions (cupcakes mostly) - the firepit outside (in particular, the time when Phil from the Microphones came out and decided to play the show there) I'm sure there are a lot of things I could add and I know that I'm too old for you now, but I want you to know that I really appreciate all the bands that you have brought to Salt Lake and the fact that you have allowed all the under-21's to see them. and although I don't really get where you are going with the new skate ramp and everything I want you to know that I will still come to visit and reminisce about better times. forever yours (and thanks for the memories), Ryan S.

Yelp
Did you ever sit around with your friends and imagine booking a band into your backyard or garage? Tada! Kilby Court is the manifestation of that wish. Kilby Court is a great venue in a shitty way. Or a shitty venue in a great way. It's tiny and really small but also lacks space. I think if I were in a band playing at Kilby I might be lulled into thinking we had fans. When you realize that the employee bathroom at 7-11 is larger the truth might sink in. Kilby has seen some great acts over the years. It has also seen an endless list of awful, please-jump-off-a-cliff list of bands as well. But that's the point! Bands need a place to thrash around and figure it out. They usually set up the merch table across the courtyard, and the band sets up in the hall on the other side. The stage riser is maybe 6 inches higher than the floor....so you feel like a member of the band. That visceral, close feeling is what makes this place so cool. I have seen quiet, acoustic acts; loud, intense acts; groove-oriented acts...all at Kilby. I prefer the loud, intense type for this venue. You want to feel than kind of show, and that's what Kilby is all about.

Yelp
This place would be cool if they cleaned it up a bit and made it a 21+ place. The outdoor area would be way cool with a small bar. Even for people who aren't drinkers, it seems that a bar just makes the atmosphere of a music venue feel more authentic. It seems like the shows here attract a younger, grungier crowd of man-buns and crop-tops. I went here once when I was 18 or 19 and I thought it was really cool, but going back as a 25 year old, my boyfriend and I just felt really out of place and left shortly after getting there (fortunately our tickets were comped to us, so we weren't losing money).

Tom P.

Yelp
Kilby Court is magical. I often see bands I've enjoyed listening to for a long time make this their SLC tour stop. It's such an intimate and low key setting to see your favorite bands play at.
google avatar

Monica T.

Yelp
In the realm of SLC music venues, Kilby Court kind of feels to me like that spunky younger brother, even though it's older than most of the other venues. I get that younger brother vibe because it's an all ages, booze free venue, but I put up with that because it's such a cool atmosphere and they get some pretty awesome bands to play there. You'll probably get lost trying to find this place the first time you go, but once you know which alley it is, you'll never forget. So come by, sit by the fire, purchase one of those adorable little cans of apple juice, and enjoy some great indie music.
google avatar

Stephanie N.

Yelp
Hidden garage down an alley way turns Venue! I love the look, idea and feel of Kilby Court. Surrounded by concrete industrial looking buildings you probably wouldn't know it even existed unless one of your favorite bands happened to play there. I have only been to Kilby twice and it was to see the ever amazing Appleseed Cast. The show they put on this year far surpassed the show they put on March of '10. As soon as you walk into Kilby you see chairs/benches around a fire pit, which can be nice if its not already surrounded by a circle of hipster 19 year olds you look like they maybe don't shower and have been sitting there with their buddies all day. You're lucky if you get a seat. There is a separate area from the actual venue where the bands will sell merchandise which is always rad. Who wouldn't want to purchase something and support one of their favorite bands? As far as the venue goes, agian let me reiterate I LOVE the feel of Kilby Court BUT, depending on where you stand... thats the kind of show you are going to get. The sound quality isn't the best and the speakers aren't set up very well. Last year from where I was standing, I couldn't even hear the lead singer the entire time. All I got was lots of pretty music that I didn't even recognize. Still fun but kinda lame at the same time. I'd be lying if I said I didn't leave a little bummed. And this year? I could hear everything perfectly. So perfect that my right ear was ringing and messed up for at least a week. None the less, how can you dislike Kilby??? Yes its cold and drafty, yes they unfortunately let 18 year olds in (if doing so brings you more money then hell yes!), yeah the sound quality could be better BUT this place is truly one of a kind. To have such an amazing venue with so much personality where local Utah bands can play and rattle our earbuds, is a out of this world awesome. Let's not take it for granted.
google avatar

Brett K.

Yelp
It's down a dark alley. It's in a shed behind a metal fence. There is no liquor. There is no food. There is no seating. It's very loud. Now, somehow, even with all those drawbacks - Kilby Court still comes out shining. It's a very cool place to see very cool up and coming bands. Employees are unpretentious and the venue is unique as hell.
google avatar

Haley B.

Yelp
I love Nate Ruess. I've seen him live more times than I can count, and it sort of kills me that the next time he comes to town, I'll have to fight my way through hordes of teenage girls with big glasses and boys in skinny, skinny jeans at one of Utah's enormous, personality-less venues. I'll just have to cling to memories of better times, such as the time in 2009 when I stood in line at Kilby Court for two hours to see him on his first tour with fun. Kilby Court, as I was reminded this evening, is the antithesis of a large, impersonal amphitheater. You can't get more intimate with an artist than this unless you're sleeping with him (or her). Located at the end of a slightly intimidating alley (particularly in the dark. particularly the first time.), Kilby is basically just a garage, a courtyard, and a few outbuildings. There are some very old houses and apartments where people are actually living. It's shabby, but in the nicest way possible. The stage is little more than a large platform and it occupies about 1/3 of the room. There is no bad place to stand. The acoustics are so/so, but the fact that band members are close enough to sweat on you basically anywhere you're standing in the room makes up for it. 90% of the time, the bands they feature don't interest me. I wish I could get behind the local music scene, but I just can't. Sorry. Maybe if I were 17 again, I could bring myself to care. HOWEVER. They do occasionally bring in obscure bands who are nonetheless CRAZY TALENTED. (TILLY AND THE WALL. TILLY AND THE WALL.) If you don't have a nose for this, make friends with someone who does, and LISTEN TO THEM when they tell you to come see a show here. It will be a truly unique experience.

Yelp
I went on a date with a boy here and wrote that he had a huge penis on the wall of the bathroom. I think it's still there. I didn't know at the time that he did or did not have said huge penis, but I wrote it anyway. He was impressed. I started going here when I was 15. It was the only venue I could get into in Salt Lake. So many amazing bands, so cheap, so many smuggled flasks of cheap vodka. I met best friends here. I was late for curfew being here. I had my car blocked in by other cars. I had crushes on boys in bands. I collected the awesome Leia Bell flyers and still have them to this day. I love Kilby Court, and wish there was something like it in SF. Then again, I think if it was anything else besides the garage in on a gravely road in Salt Lake City, it wouldnt be the same.
google avatar

Emma L.

Yelp
it was definitely a good time, but it was kind of funny when we got there. we were kinda like, "where even are we?". the opening act called the place a shed and asked if we had any other venues or if this was it. the main act didn't know how we all actually fit haha. was the place good? yes. was it good for a sold out show? not the best, but not bad. it was still a good time and you could still see the performers most of the time.
google avatar

Aj C.

Yelp
Will always be my favorite music venue in town. Whenever we have nothing to do we always know a weird but awesome adventure is awaiting us at kilby. I have seen countless bands here first before they hit it big. The used. Fun. Vampireweekend. And soo many more... If u want to be able to say "I was a fan while they were still underground" then make this spot a permanent hangout.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Kilby Court is the epitome of a hole-in-the-wall venue, its little more than a garage that's been converted to a music venue. Seriously. Catering to the local and indie music scene, Kilby Court is an all-ages venue whose primary audience is younger music goers, teenagers and early twenty-somethings. Although Kilby Court is often the stage for many local Utah bands, they get a fair number of smaller bands from throughout the United States too. Tickets are usually a bargain at only $6 to $8 depending on the act and shows usually include three or four bands, making the paltry admission cost an even better deal. If you're headed to Kilby for a show keep in mind it is cold in the winter and hot in the summer so dress appropriately. Also remember some ear plugs, you'll need them since it can get pretty loud inside.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
I adore Kilby Court. I saw the Annuals here, and they were awesome. But regardless of the band, it's just a cool space. It looks like someone's old garage that they no longer use and handed over to their teenagers. The walls are all tagged and plastered with stickers. It's just a great place to chill with friends and listen to some great music. And afterward, you almost certainly can talk to the band members, because, well, they're right there. It's tucked away, so you won't know you're there until you kind of wander around and stumble upon it.
google avatar

Whitney C.

Yelp
Kilby Court is an interesting venue. It is super small (literally a garage) and given the right talent, it can be a fun time but if a band is booked there who thinks they are better than that, you are in for a ride. I don't even know if this place has a bathroom? You can go in and out though but that means walking down a dark alley in a part of town that doesn't seem to have anything else going on (or existing for that matter). It's a cool inimiate spot to see some great indie bands that come through though. They also have an outdoor fireplace. The standing area itself probably holds about 100 people but you could hang out by the fire pit (and merch table) and still hear the band.
google avatar

Cory H.

Yelp
I love this place. But constantly their shows don't start on time! Most of the time 7:00 pm shows mean 8:00 pm.
google avatar

Jesse F.

Yelp
Decent venue, merch space super cramped but the show space and sound are good. Overall decent time. Pretty hot tho lol
google avatar

Dustin B.

Yelp
I don't know if I'd call this a venue, I've seen backyard wedding ceremonies with a bigger stage and more room for guests. It literally is just a garage and a backyard, 200sq feet in the garage, maybe 800 infront. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of heart. Anybody can play, anybody can come, and the price to use the venue can't be too steep (they don't pay royalties for covers to no cover songs can be played by the bands). It's great for local bands and high school bands that want to get known in the valley, or indie groups that are used to playing in coffee shops. But as for big name artists it reminds me when Moe on the Simpsons had Red Hot Chili Peppers play at his bar. Actually playing in a bar is a bigger venue, that this.
google avatar

W W.

Yelp
Kilby Court is raw, in a great way. You can cut the "teen angst" in the air with a knife and honestly having a venue like this for artists is what it's all about. I ended up at an all ages show - and felt like a creepy pedo - so left early ... but that was my problem not the venues. It is in a sketchy area and I walked about a mile to another pub - so keep that in mind for transportation. You don't want to walk the area at night alone. Overall, check if its all ages and I'd recommend going with friends ... It's not a solo type of place - it is way too intimate. Overall - great place.
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
Small concert venue in converted garage brings in baby indie acts, many of whom go on to bigger things. Friendly, alcohol-free venue a favorite of under-30 music fans, and high-schoolers. Parking is limited.

Jessica K.

Yelp
Kilby court was amazing! totally sketched out because it didn't look like other venues did (ie: saltaire, the depot, Ecenter, etc.) but I loved it! It is intimate and you get so close to the artists! Totally worth the money and time to attend any concert there! You can meet the artists because they just chill afterwards. Just bring cash!!! They have no credit card machines so that kinda sucks...but whatever. You can get over that.
google avatar

Kathryn N.

Yelp
One of the best concert sites. Local and well known bands. You can talk to the artists after they play by the fire-lit backyard.
google avatar

Twinkle P.

Yelp
Bonfires, roasting marshmallows, more dogs than people watching the shows, faint green-light with red pony clock more focused on hugging the crowd than playing their instruments, Leia Bell posters of more dogs, boys wearing lipstick and cartoon girls sitting at bars with their thongs hanging out on accident. Forever my favorite venue.
google avatar

Grant R.

Yelp
Great all ages venue. Very small and intimate. A lot of indie rock bands come through this place.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Ahh Kilby Court. Since I'm into music (especially live music), any venue is a good venue. BUT few are as awesome as this place! It's mellow and small and the bands are usually not famous enough to act like they are doing us a favor by being there. In fact, on most weekdays, we're doing THEM a favor by being there! Some of the greatest bands played at Kilby Court on some of their early tours! It's in a unique area and it's a great place to just enjoy the music and roast marshmallows. The people there are usually part of the fun. You'll see evidence of a thriving sub-culture in SLC the second you walk through the door! But don't worry Mainstreamers, they'll love you even if you don't wear tight tight tight blue jeans and leg warmers. FYI: Don't plan on finding a good place to park too easily. You might just have to suck it up, park on the street and foot it to the door. Trust me, it's worth it!
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
There are draw backs to Kilby so don't let my five start review fool you into thinking I'm some hipster fan boy. Here is the downside a) as mentioned this is literally a garage/shed b) inside is really tiny and outside (because it is outside duh) is exposed to the elements c) there is no real stage per se so short people better get here early so they can literally "see" the band. Now here is the reason Kilby gets five stars. The people who run and book shows have a knack for finding some amazing talent. I think they really take advantage of small bands traveling between California and Denver needing a place to stop for the night. They also take advantage of having a lot of up and coming California bands drive 12 hours to get here to play a quick show. Not every band that rolls through becomes huge but a lot of big bands that role through talk about playing at Kilby "years ago". I've seen Vampire Weekend, The National, and Foals here as well as countless bands that I thought deserved a bigger venue, like Beach Fossils and Sylvan Esso (and probably would in a bigger town). A lot of times I will just peruse the upcoming Kilby show list just to find new bands.

Paloma C.

Yelp
I just want to get ahold of the Venue to ask questions of a show coming up. But they have no open line just a fax machine number...

Yelp
i was lucky to be around when this place opened up shop. it's a tiny little converted garage space in the industrial part of salt lake city. last time i was here was over 6 years ago, so i'm not sure if they've remodeled or expanded it. i saw some good shows here. lots of bands - pre-fame: death cab for cutie, the faint (only about 5 people at the show), the rapture (again, only about 5 people at the show), the shins, bright eyes, etc. last i checked, they still have a packed concert calendar with many of today's up and coming new bands. the sound can kinda be suspect at times. i've also had a bad experience here when my band played and my guitar amp blew up, but that's not the venue's fault. it's a good little intimate venue though. kinda miss it, at times.
