Yelp
Well finally after a few years gave them a try.
Stopped in for an early Saturday dinner with the family. We made reservations, however it was not needed as there was only a few tops occupied on our arrival. However by the end of the meal most of the table where full.
Chips and salsa: chips were above average, thin and crisp. Red salsa was a mix of chunky tomatoes and liquid. It had a good flavor but was a bit runny. I would say its good, reminds me of something your would make at home. Green salsa was above average, thick and very spicy with a good flavor.
Queso: Solid queso, not the most flavorful I have ever had, but it had a good consistency. They top it with a bit of pico that had some very spice jalapenos in it. $10 may seem a bit much for queso dip, but this was a large portion and I would say most other restaurants would give you a good bit less than the portion we got.
Kids chicken strips: looked hand battered and fresh. for $6 it was a good deal, only downside was the sides are beans and rice, you can get mac and cheese but its an up charge. Kids menu looked good overall.
Wagu Steak Quesadilla: $19, not the biggest or cheapest Quesadilla I have ever seen, but the kid loved it and said it was the perfect balance of cheese and beef. From the looks' of it I would probably personally go another direction for that price, but if you love quesadillas it probably worth a try.
Tres Amigo: Large combo plate. the Brisket Enchilada was good, but had one large chunk of fatty brisket in it that find of took up a bunch of the filling. The shrimp Quesadilla was 2 moderately sized pieces. The shrimp was very good. Flavorful and nicely cooked. However the cheese was a bit thick and rubbery, Possibly Oaxaca cheese? It was fine but not the best ever. finally the Chicken Flauta was a above average size and nicely fried.
TMX Trio: Three enchiladas. The cheese was good, had a nice flavor and the sauce was good. Not the best ever, but good. The brisket on this plate was better that the one on the other plate. I cannot complain about it. It was smoky and had a good sauce covering it. The best of the bunch was the chicken. The chicken was moist and have a great flavor. My only big complaint about the enchiladas was the sauce. everything was covered in the same sauce. Not that the sauce was bad, but it would have been nice to have something to help differentiate the enchiladas. With that said it is possible they had slightly different sauce, however they seemed to have mixed together I was not able to tell them apart if that was the case.
Rice: Above average
Refried beans: Good
Charro Beans: Ok, but came out a little under cooked the beans were a tad bit undercooked.
Service: In general the service was top notch, however our waitress got a bit busy? at the end of our service and we did not see her for a bit. We had planned to try out the bread pudding but by the time she came around we were kind of ready to go and she did not even ask if we wanted dissert, just put the check on the table. It was odd, because it seemed that all our food was ran by other people and also most of our plates were picked up by others. So not sure what the issue was.
I had avoided going to TMX for a few years, to let the hype die down and then COVID hit and then it just sort of got lost in the shuffle. But we finally decided to give it a try and I would say I liked it. Is it the best Mexican food every? nope, but it is very good. It is a little pricy but not over the top. I find that it fits right between Gringo and El Tiempo. Both Price wise and food wise. So if you are wanting something a little nicer than your average Tex Mex restaurant, but dont want to Pay Original Ninfas Prices I think TMX is a good middle ground. So if you live in the area I would give it a try and decide for yourself.
Also I did notice they have daily food and drink specials, so checking out Happy Hour may be worthwhile.
Would Recommend and Return.
