20 Mind-Blowing Burgers in Portland and Beyond

"Killer Burger has become a household name in Portland, and for good reason. It recently won first place in the burger category in Willamette Week's readers' poll, and it's not up to 30 locations across the state. Burgers here come in pint sized or regular with the option of making the latter a double. Although it has a well-rounded menu of burgers with topping like crispy fried onions, melty and gooey mushrooms, and Swiss, there may not be anything on the menu so polarizing as the peanut butter and pickle burger, which is arguably Killer Burger's signature menu item. All locations feature a varying beverage menu including craft beer and ciders on tap as well as soda." - Ron Scott

Enjoyed my Mother’s Day dinner with my family. Everyone was so sweet and wishes me a happy Mother’s Day. Food, service and atmosphere 10/10!! It was well worth the drive. It was clean, food was fresh, the sauces were top tier. Thank you!

Google
The classic burger was excellent, fries were delicious and piping hot. The guy who took my order was one of the friendliest people I've ever come across. He was super kind and helpful. Parking may be an issue, I was lucky to find a spot right across the street.

I was traveling from Texas for work. I ran into this restaurant, and the customer service was great. I had the Meathead burger and the crispy chicken Mike's Hot Honey sandwich. Both were great. Definitely recommend this place for tourists.

Google
The OG mushroom Swiss burger’s cooler, bacon-loaded cousin. Bacon, Mushroom, Swiss Fondue, House Sauce, Grilled Onion, Pickles. This was the best burger that I’ve had in a while! The staff were awesome and very friendly! Awesome experience!

OpticShogun

Google
The burger combo was pricey, and the burger itself tasted fine. The fries had a great firmness to them, and were salted properly. Besides the price the overall burger combo experience was alright.

Google
Absolutely great food! And the service nice and informative. I only wish the stereo wasn’t so loud. But 20/10 recommend this place

Google
Fries were out in minutes and crispy perfection, burgers out before we were even halfway through the fries. The meathead was delicious and the spicy mayo was perfect, definitely coming back.

Came here on a Tuesday at 2 for lunch. It was not crowded and we could easily get a table. The service was great, the music was awesome, and the staff was super cool. The food was tasty and delicious. Very good burgers and fries. The hot honey chicken was great and the fries were perfect. We are from out of town and we will be back.

Yelp
Ground chuck is key, still tastes like a burger even with all the different toppings, my sons loved theirs, especially the burger with peanut butter, and I've been doing peanut butter and jelly burgers for probably the last 15 years. Burgers done right, enough said!

Yelp
So many recommendations from Portlanders for these burgers that I had to try it. I was staying at a hotel in downtown Portland and wanted to order dinner in because I had a long day of flying and just wanted to relax in my room. I looked at various ways to order a burger from Killer Burger and decided to go the UberEats way, which saved me a few dollars. I ordered the original size Bender burger with fries. It took about 30 minutes to get my meal and it came from a bicyclist who had to ride in the rain and who (as he told me as he dropped off my burger) got caught up with another delivery and an issue with that other restaurant. I felt bad for him and excused the delivery of a warm, not hot, burger and fries. Thank goodness I travel with a HotLogic which I used to warm up the burger and fries. It worked but I had to wait another 20 minutes to eat. The burger: This burger was very tasty and cooked perfectly. It had bacon, crispy jalapeños, grilled onions, BBQ sauce, their house sauce, and cheddar cheese. They didn't skimp on their toppings and the combination of it all was delicious! I also appreciated all the sauces. I do like saucy things! I ordered fries to go with it and they were good, not excellent, and there weren't very many. For the price I paid for the fries I don't think the value was there. I'm not sure I would order the fries again. The burger, however, was great! Next time I will walk there (in the daylight because the area is a bit questionable for a single, woman traveler) and try another burger hot off the grill. (I can't believe I have no pics for this review:( Sorry )

Yelp
This location was within a block of the hotel. I'm glad I found it. I went with a classic burger, which was smashed and cooked to perfection. The fries were really good. Thick and hot.
google avatar

Yelp
I thought the burger was a tab bit too greasy. My cousin is a burger fanatic and he was impressed by the burger at all. Unfortunately he only took a bite and said he was feeling it. The chicken tenders were good. Fires were mid. Appreciate the service , the ambience was cool, they were playing lots a good jams, just wish the burgers were better. Thank you anyway

Yelp
The meat to bun ratio was great! The bun didn't last the entire meal due to the fat dripping off the charred meat and dissolving the bread. The patty had a perfect char and was seasoned just right. The fries were a 3 out of 5, not mind blowing, but not bad either. It's not a perfect 5 and I can't put my finger on why. I think this place is a great spot for a quick meal and an excellent spot for a greasy late night drunk burger. Check it out.

Yelp
I got the peanut butter pickle bacon and it was shockingly good. Highly recommended, get over what you're thinking and just try it. It's delicious. Their fries are really good too. Would come back here again.

Yelp
Was a last minute decision and turned out to be a good one. My wife said it was the best burger she has ever had. My was good too. The staff was friendly and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time

Yelp
When you guys first opened I used to come in weekly, sometimes multiple times a week. My wife and I had a bit of an unpleasant experience about three years ago and this was my first time back. The burger quality is what I remember it to be, nice portion and great taste. This is where my accolades cease because one of the things that I used to love about your establishment was that you guys offered fries with your burgers without having to do à la cart. For $3.50 I decided to get the fries because I remembered the quality of your fries to be good. Unfortunately, the basket I received had 15 fries. When I asked if this was the equivalent of an order fries, the lady said yes in a very non-caring manner. I was hoping to become a regular customer again, but $3.50 for 15 fries will continue for me to spend my dollars elsewhere. It is not that hard!

Yelp
Popped into Killer Burger for lunch in a Wednesday. It was busy but not much of a wait. You could see it was a popular place with a lot of locals coming in and out with their to-go orders. The inside is a little smaller than average but plenty of seating for a reasonably busy lunch hour. The interior has an industrial feel and the music is a little loud and heavy rock but not unbearable. I ordered a berserker burger and spicy crispy chicken sandwich with friends and a drink. The drink was the weakest part, they had a gold peak dispenser and it was mostly water with a hint of tea flavor. What really stood out, and reason for 5 SOLID stars was the burger and fries! The burger was cooked amazingly well, not overly greasy but packed with good flavor and the edges had a really great crisp to it which I enjoyed. The bun was super soft and delicious, and the toppings on the burger were very well thought out and executed, providing enough balance to taste the burger, but providing a fresh jalapeño kick and spice. Easily one of the better burgers I've had in a while. The fries were also perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. I liked that they were served with kosher salt rather than table salt as well. The spicy crispy chicken was OK.. nothing to write about but nothing bad. I enjoyed it but probably would've just had a burger from this place. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you enjoy burgers, it will not disappoint you!

Yelp
Are you looking for a great burger? All original burgers come standard with 1/3 pound beef patty and bacon in every bite (and that is a true statement!) And all burgers come with crispy fries and made to order. They also serve local beers. They recently added chicken sand which to their menu and while I am tempted to try one, after trying several burgers in Portland, this is my favorite burger place! My favorites ~ * Bender - this is my number one burger to order because of the kick and intense flavor! Bacon, spicy bbq, crispy jalapeño, house sauce, grilled onion and cheddar. * Meathead - if you have a big appetite, this one might be for you. Bacon, DOUBLE patties, double cheddar, grilled onion, house sauce & ketchup. * Motley Que -crispy onions, bacon, tangy BBQ sauce, jack cheese, grilled onions and Killer Burger House Sauce. And I will admit, I was a bit hesitant, but had to try the Peanut butter and pickle bacon burger. I'm glad I tried it and would order it again .... On occasion as the Bender burger, even when I intend to order something new, typically rolls off my tongue when I go to order. The restaurant itself is casual and can at times be a bit cleaner. Don't forget to wipe the tables. The folks who work here have always been welcoming and actually full of personality and fun. Keep making great burgers Killer Burger!

Yelp
Mother Clucker! KB has been my standby for a hearty bacon cheese with house-cut fries for an age, but now... they finally added fried chicken as a sando option and it's so good I'm crowing! Crispy outside, juicy inside and I got the BLT Chocken Burger, which has that my-so-secret ingredient that any Portlander will put on everything from salad to sushi .... BACON, crispy, tasty, salty, porky goodness and one of the reasons Goddess created pigs... or at least pork belly. YUM. Don't chicken out, ya'll, just run! It's worth the exercise.

Yelp
I came to Portland looking for my home burger spot. I found it within one year. Killer Burger has been the spot for the last three years since I've moved to Portland. I spent a year trying other spots and landed here time after time. The burger here are different. The seasoned beef with whatever toppings you get are dead one! I"m a Bender or Meathead guy. The double patties are intense! I've found that if I cut it in half I can spread it into two meals. If I eat the entire thing I tend to have a food coma. Killer Burger has unlimited fries, I have never had to go back and ask for more. The first serving is enough to fill up a family.

Mark B.

Yelp
Looks like a great place to get a burger. Great, unique selection. Even a peanut butter and pickles burger that they say is the most popular. I'm trying the Motley Que, with BBQ sauce and 2 types of onions - fried & grilled.
google avatar

Valerie W.

Yelp
Good food, drink was okay but I would probably not order another dirty Shirley, tasted very bland. Spicy chicken sandwich is indeed spicy so make sure you have plenty of beverages on hand.
google avatar

Mariana S.

Yelp
Food was good but the place was dirty , I wish it was cleaner. And wish they had an option with pineapple. The people working there were nice and kind. Being downtown you can expect looking outside of the window and seeing tons of homeless waiting for you to leave to ask for change.

Yelp
This place makes a killer hamburger! I was walking the streets of downtown Portland looking for a cold beer and good. Urgent. I stumbled into Killer Burger this evening. Cons: the young lady that greeted waited on me this evening was not friendly. No smile. Did not welcome me. Was not helpful. The menu is li d of confusing and no one really helps explain The process. The music is loud. Which is not good for this old man. Pros: the young men in the kitchen were smiling, practicing good hygiene. The burger was excellent. Sloppy. Fresh veggies. The beef was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The fried were were crispy golden. Oh, and this place is really clean. Spotless. Worth the trip if you are hungry and thirsty.

Kevin B.

Yelp
Food was great but excuse me...no fries with the burger???? Same price but no fries. Shrinkflation. We've been coming here for years but are done. Fries are cheap. What the hell
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
Still love this place. Their burgers are always great and the portions are large. However, theres been a weird trend where now they drastically skimp on the fries. Idk why. Attached is a picture of what came with my burger. Lmk if you think that's acceptable considering their raised prices. The burger shouldn't be bigger than the totality of the fries lol

Valerie T.

Yelp
Love Killer Burger! No matter what location the food is always very good and the burgers are definitely a delight when we're there! Their service is also top notch and we'd definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a juicy burger! It's usually pretty loud when you're sitting there so if you're hoping for a quiet place to dine Killer Burger is not the place to go as the ambiance is little loud! But, that's what you can expect while you're eating there! All in all, we'd still recommend them!
google avatar

Marcus W.

Yelp
I had the Motley Que burger and my wife had the spicy crispy chicken sandwich. Not were so darn good! The fries were also really good and since they were made to order it was fresh out the oil and delicious. The bacon on the burger was also perfectly crunchy and they give you a lot so every bite had bacon and I'm a bacon guy I will be back here again soon because I really wanna try some of the other burgers, the menu is pretty set up for whatever a burger fan likes and they have a nice beer menu. Sadly the bar area was closed so I would like to come back when they are open for a late night burger and a shot or two. 10/10 would recommend for a good burger in downtown Portland!!
google avatar

Constantine J.

Yelp
When you're in the mood for a great burger and fries, this should be near the top of your list in PDX! Was a bit disappointed in the service, but it could have been an off day.
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
I've been to several Killer Burgers and I have to say that they are very consistent with their food which is great and very tasty. When we ordered our food they were really good and got our food out ASAP, which was fast. This place was awesome, it was in downtown Portland and in this cool building.
google avatar

Lauren N.

Yelp
Solid to go burger! Even have ping size if you want a smaller portion. Shareable fries are more than enough between 3 people. Sauces are delicious :)
google avatar

Chrs G.

Yelp
Overpriced and a bit of a mess. Wanted a great burger and this was not it. Over salted the paddy, and didn't seem fresh. Fries were great which gets it an extra star.
google avatar

Lefai K.

Yelp
Killer burger specializes in burgers, and the fries are really good. They have outdoor seating, as well as indoor seating at the time of writing. The way it works is you go to the front where the cashier is, order your food, grab a number, and take it to your table. They will bring the food out for you. We ordered the Bender burger, which had jalapeños, and onions. The beef patty was really flavorful and delicious. Overall, a really good burger. I would recommend. BATHROOM REVIEW: OK did pass the kitchen, there are two bathrooms, with a keypad to get in. Inside, as part of the vibe, things are all graffiti it up. Not really for me, but I guess it's suits the vibe of the place which Blair is heavy metal music while you die. Inside, there is a toilet, hand dryer, and sink. Set or squat? Squat.

Brenda K.

Yelp
5 stars every time...no matter the location! I will never stop eating these Deliciousmy addicting things lol.
google avatar

Michelle O.

Yelp
Honestly a really good burger. Coming from Montana (the home of fresh beef & incredible burgers), I was really happy with the burger I ordered. I got the classic & switched my cheese to cheddar. Burger was the perfect size, patty had perfect thickness, and it came with all of the classic toppings + a good burger sauce. The fries were also phenomenal, exactly what I was craving. The menu has album options if you're looking for experimental burgers & there's an array of beers on tap. Indoor there are a good amount of tables, along with picnic tables along the outside. Service was fast & background music was great.
google avatar

Yelp
First off, their website doesn't allow for online ordering at the moment, which sucks. Bring it back please. But I found that Postmates does for pickup so I opted for that. But there are discrepancies between the two ordering sites... Their main website allows for the kids meal to be customizable (can add up to 2 customizations +lettuce and + grilled onions are free) but postmates doesn't. I tried adding it as a note, but I guess it was either ignored or they don't do that anymore. I get there at 8:24 and my food wasn't ready yet, but no biggie - I can let that slide. What I can't let slide is that the kids meal ($7) comes with juice BUT THEY FORGOT MY JUICE. So so disappointed when I got back to my hotel room. And there was no option to add sauce for my fries. Great lol. The only plus side is that the fries are really crispy. Not returning by myself lol.
google avatar

Storm C.

Yelp
It's off the beaten path if you are in the city, but it is worth the visit. Awesome food and great bar!! The chicken sandwich is was one of the best I have ever had.
google avatar

Russ M.

Yelp
Juicy patties, tasty killer sauce and excellent fries make this the perfect burger stop. The veggie patties are also tasty, they actually ask if you want bacon with it, huh? You can't go wrong with the classic but the menu has many choices. From now on my reviews will end on a separate issue: WHY does Yelp force users to navigate with Apple Maps???
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
So we went to this pumpkin patch corn maize. Had never been to one before had no idea how tall corn gets but anyway, the baby fell asleep so we decided to go eat downtown. Checked around for a hamburger place with gluten free buns and Killer Burger had been recommended in the past so we went. Baby woke up at some point so she got to try her first bit of burger and she got real lucky cause it was a damn good burger. Of course now everything we feed her gets a very sour look and often a squeal as if she were judging us for eating anything but Killer Burger.
google avatar

Ploy N.

Yelp
Living up to its name, the burgers at Killer Burger indeed killed! I'm a big fan of the Peanut Butter Burger. The sauce was so well-balanced and flavorful without overpowering everything else. The slight sweetness went great with the savory charred burger patty and pickles. The Teemah was also decent but not as interesting as the Peanut Butter. Other components of the burgers, buns, veegies, etc., were fresh and high quality. Plenty of crispy and piping hot wedge fries with every burger.

Yelp
I just had the WORST EXPERIENCE here. The associate at this location was extremely RUDE. He was rushing me to order even though there was no line behind me. He didn't seem to want to answer questions when I asked about items on the menu and when he did he grab the menu as if I couldn't read it myself. Then I asked is it better to tip on the screen when I scanned my card or put it in the wooden box. Response No bother! so I didn't bother and I keep my tip for poor service. I then asked for 1 clear empty take out container so I could get hot sauce/ vinegar and he said I had to pay for it. I asked his name he ignored me but his coworker said his name was CHRIS. (Food 5) Service today 0. I apologize ahead of time for anyone who has this guy wait on you.

Yelp
What I ordered: the classic burger Price: $13 Overall thoughts: the restaurant was clean and the staff was helpful. If you're in the mood for burgers, go here. PRESENTATION & CREATIVITY- I believe all food is art. This meal was presented well and neat. QUALITY & TASTE- Everyone has their own opinion of preferences of taste. The burger was juicy and delicious. The killer sauce tastes good, especially on a burger. The fries were good, but not seasoned. SERVICE & HOSPITALITY- One aspect of a great experience at an establishment is the service of the staff. At this location, the workers were nice and helpful. VARIETY OF OPTIONS- Some establishments offer very diverse menu. At this establishment, they offer only burgers, so if you're not in the mood for burgers, you may want to look down here else. But they are good burgers! They also can make it GF or wrap in lettuce if you don't want too many carbs. BANG FOR YOUR BUCK? Is this too expensive for the quality of food? I think this is priced well for the experience and quality of food. EXTRA NOTES: I'd take a lyft or Uber here, not much parking. Or you can take the Max train to the pioneer square station.

Yelp
We ducked into the old town location and the whole fam thought the burgers were on point. I had the peanut butter bacon pickle and it was INCREDIBLE. Food came out within a few minutes and even the drinks are very reasonably priced.

Yelp
Awesome burgers Must try this place the best burgers in town hands-down, so what are you waiting for? Go ahead and try them out

Phil D.

Yelp
It was ok. Visually it looked sad. Tasted good. Not great. But good. Fries were great. For the price, it was a good value.

Jessica D.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this local favorite. The peanut butter bacon pickle burger was really good; the peanut butter had a sweetness to it. I got the smaller burger, which was also cooked to perfection. The fries were also perfect- they were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, right amount of seasoning. No soggy fries at this establishment. Service was fine too, though this is an "order and seat yourself" kind of place, so they didn't have to do much for us. I'd definitely recommend this place and will come back next time I'm in Portland.
google avatar

Mecca F.

Yelp
Ran into this place walking my dog. Visiting the area I went out with with my dog and saw this restaurant. Made a mental note to try it when they opened up. Teen spirit box was perfect for a teenager. We placed our order via phone for a take our order. Menu on Yelp was helpful. I got a burger with a lettuce wrap in substitute of bread. Most places can't ace the lettuce wrap ... so they get 5 stars for wrapping it perfectly. The food from all parties in my family was delicious. Must try!!! COVID Take out.
google avatar

Kaylee B.

Yelp
My flavor is kind of salty with beef burgers. But another chicken that good. And some bacon was too dark. And about the service, I count 4/5.
google avatar

Jimmy P.

Yelp
This place had a peanut butter bacon burger and it was so freaking good. It was salty and sweet all at the same time. You have to check this place out! The fries were pretty good and everything was reasonably priced. I would definitely come back :)

Jake L.

Yelp
These burgers were delicious! The service was excellent and the restaurant was very clean. Flavor was 10/10 and parking was super easy to find. Will definitely be returning soon.

Shae B.

Yelp
Went here on a date. Great music- love metal. The counter person could not have been less interested or helpful. The burgers were fair- no temps allowed?!?. Fries were great, but poor layout for getting utensils, condiments and the staff all clearly wanted to be doing anything else . I do not recommend and won't be back .

Diane M.

Yelp
Meat warm, no fresh onion that was requested. Price was not a value. Will return anther time to see if improvements.
google avatar

Mekedes A.

Yelp
can't go wrong with a burger joint that fits ever family members liking. the fries gave me burger king vibes, well done.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Just go here. Period... my concierge recommended and I went. Ordered the best damn burger that I've ever had. It was the one with the peanut butter and pickles on it. Huge. I ate about half and was so full. The other, huge bonus, that is often overlooked are the the fries. They were perfectly cooked for me. Crispy on the outside but had a soft center! Dipped in ranch and hello!! Heaven. I was there on a holiday when most places were closed and as a solo traveler I much appreciated it. But not only that- each staff person gets a "burger" for their shift. Mine gave theirs to me! My bill was $7! Talk about southern hospitality in the northwest! The staff was so nice, and the food was delicious!! My only suggestion id if you are sitting in the bar- do not judge the door to the left where they take all the trash out. Your food comes through a different door :)
google avatar

Jared B.

Yelp
First time here! The service was incredible and the food was amazing! The atmosphere in here is really nice too, the music was great :) will definitely come back in the future!!

Yelp
During a two day trip to Portland, Killer Burgers was the first spot that my husband and I checked out for lunch. The vibe of this place is cool. Really unpretentious and laid back, with people already sipping beers at like 1 on a Friday. THOSE are my kinds of people, ya know? The bartender and server we had was incredibly nice. I feel bad for forgetting his name, because he was super cool. These burgers are pretty serious - loaded HIGH with toppings and definitely not the thing to eat if you're wearing white or tight clothing. It's heavy, but it's good. I got the Meathead, which comes with bacon, double patties, double cheese, grilled onions, house sauce, and ketchup. It was a doozy! While the first few bites of the burger were good, I started to eat more and realize something tasted off... It tasted like the bacon or some part of the burger had been left in old oil or grease, and left a reallllyyy weird aftertaste in my mouth. I had my husband try it and he could taste it, too. If it wasn't for that one little thing, this burger would've been flawless! 100% would've been a five star experience, but I just couldn't get over that old oil/grease taste. I would give Killer Burger another chance. They've got so many other burgers that sound, well..... Killer. I'm just hoping this was a one off issue.
google avatar

Evelin H.

Yelp
The burgers and fries here are amazing! The patty is the perfect size and you get the right amount of fries. Even the kids meals are a decent size. They are very flavorful. We are visiting from out of state and this exceeded our expectations! The is a bit of waiting when they're making your order fresh. Don't show up expecting your burger like it's a fast food pick up. Call ahead is an option but a good walk is just what you'll need after you're done.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here for a bite to eat. I was intrigued by their menu variety and uniqueness. My husband ordered the peanut butter pickle burger. It basically allows everyone to experience pregnancy cravings (or so I heard). My husband enjoyed the burger but said it got too sweet towards the end. I ordered the Fun Guy burger without cheese on a lettuce wrap. Overall a solid burger. Note, the place has very greasy floors which I had seen a few people slide around. Also, they have a full-service bar to enjoy to ensure your thirst is quenched.
