15 Fabulous Cocktail Bars to Try in Phoenix

"This pitch-black, unpretentious hangout delivers on more than the shock value of its name, but there’s no denying Killer Whale is both irreverent and fun. Just take a gander at the Polaroid pics of guests’ butt cracks throughout the place, then feel free to add your own to the collection. Expect creative cocktails and large format drinks." - Nikki Buchanan, Jamie Killin

I cannot rave enough about this place! The atmosphere is so aesthetic, but also chaotic. The drinks were creative and delicious, and the bartender and server were so sweet as well. They have a book that explains each of their 5 cocktail groups, and the drinks are quite intricate and you can tell that they’re very well thought-out. I got the Rasputin’s Raspberry (sweet and tart) and the Moonlite Bunny Ranch (floral and deep), both were incredible. It is very loud in this bar, but being able to feel the bass in the music while enjoying the drinks was a cool experience.

I finally made it to Killer Whale Sex Club in downtown Phoenix, and no—it’s not what the name suggests! Instead, it’s a one-of-a-kind bar that bends your mind with its creativity, humor, and killer drinks. From the moment you open the menu (which reads more like an adventure novel than a drink list), you know you’re in for something special. Let’s talk drinks! The Mini Marg shot—it’s like taking an entire margarita experience and distilling it into a single, glorious slam. The Espresso-tini shot? Absolute magic. I’ve never ordered an Espresso Martini before, but after this, I just might become a regular. And the vibe? Wildly inviting. The place is tucked inside an old converted house, with walls lined with Polaroids of past revelers, funky artwork (for sale!), and a scientific twist that makes even the menu a learning experience. Big shoutout to Ari, the bartender extraordinaire—she’s fun, sharp, and knows exactly how to make your night amazing. If you’re in Phoenix and looking for a bar that’s anything but ordinary, stop by, say hi to Ari, and prepare to be entertained!

Very interesting place. It was very dark inside, low sofas to the floor, and really good drinks. Sadly no food was available for purchase..but the music and drinks made up for it. They do allow outside food to be brought in...so that worked really well for my party

Killer Whale is hands down one of the coolest bars I’ve been to! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is electric yet relaxed—perfect for a night out with friends or a casual date. The drink menu is top-notch, offering a creative mix of craft cocktails, unique beers, and classics done right. The bartenders are not only skilled but super friendly, making the whole experience feel personalized. The decor is eclectic and stylish, giving the place a distinct personality that sets it apart from other bars. And let’s not forget the music—it’s always on point, adding to the incredible ambiance. Killer Whale is the perfect blend of great drinks, fantastic service, and an unforgettable vibe. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending it to everyone I know!

Vibes are spectacular! Sound system is bumping, which added to the ambience! Tequila old fashioned was on point!

I didn’t really get the hype of this place. It’s a boarded up house that’s all dark on the inside with dim lighting, loud music with good bass, 90min reservation times, & pre-mixed cocktails. I’m a lightweight & usually would be feeling pretty good off 2 drinks, but 2 from here was the contrary. We sat at the bar so I saw all the drinks inside their own labeled bottles. No bartender was mixing or shaking anything, just pouring & decorating them. With how pricey each drink was, that was quite disappointing. It was cool to say I went, I guess, but definitely a one & done.

This place makes you pay a 10.00 deposit per person to make the reservation which then states will be applied to your final bill. LIES. They give you a watered down “welcome shot” to that no one asks for or wants and stated it applies to the deposit. When you question it and show them your bill they tell you that some websites incorrectly state what the refund is. It is their own reservation site.
