"If you've got littles in tow who are tired from the beach—or are train-obsessed, then Kilohana Plantation is a great way to kill an afternoon. There's a 40-minute train route which meanders through groves of orchards, vegetable gardens, and flower beds, and they host a traditional luau, complete with dancers, something every family needs to experience at least once during a trip to Hawaii."

What a wonderful place to visit! There is much offered here. We took a 40 minute train ride and tour around the plantation which included a stop to feed wild pigs and some retired horses! After the train tour, we had a wonderful lunch at the beautiful plantation house in what used to be the owners home. The food, drinks and service were absolutely amazing!!! So worth the money!

Our family enjoyed the train ride at the plantation during our vacation to Kauai. The train ride and tour was fun and interesting. Definitely an affordable event for a large group. We enjoyed feeding the animals, learning about plants and fruits native to the island, and we enjoyed lunch in the restaurant. We toured the shops. Great experience!

Google
We did the tour with the train ride and lunch it was very educational and Lexi was great she went above and beyond for our little group. She managed to make us all feel special and brought her baby chicken nugget along who she rescued. Thank you Kilohana for keeping such a beautiful place so well kept.

Amazing service . Amazing good . The story telling was amazing . Wheelchair accessible. Family environment , train around the land was fabulous and the food was great

Google
We went there for the restaurant and the food was amazing. We did not have a reservation but there was no wait. My wife gave the food a 5-star rating. Very few places get that kind of rating from her, so that says something.

Jed C.

Google
Great experience. We've done the train, rum safari, and rum tasting. Plus the restaurant is great for lunch, Great prices and food.

Z Harris

Google
They really want you to go on the train ride. You need to buy tickets in advance. We have been told it's fun for kids You get to feed the wild pigs tortillas at some point. There's lots of art exhibits inside the building. The gift shops are rather expensive but are unique to the area. Looks like they do a luau did not see much information about it while walking around. The buildings are interesting to look at they've been restored a bit and look original. It's worth stopping and walking around. Plan to be there for a couple of hours if you're doing the train ride The train rides takes at least an hour. We saw people doing a rum tasting tour. Look interesting. They were selling a $135 bottle next to a $35.99 They have free restrooms in a building between different gift shops

Once the center of a 27,000-acre sugar plantation and the hub of Kauaʻi business, cultural and social life, the 35-acre estate now features tropical gardens and an old plantation village. Classic Kauaʻi Plantation Railway gives you a tour of Kilohana’s working farm. Located in Līhuʻe on Kaumualiʻi Highway, island of Kauai, Hawaii, it is a restored plantation estate that provides a glimpse of life in the 1930s. The site of a 16,000 square-foot Tudor mansion that was home to one of the island’s most prominent families, Kilohana is now a picturesque venue for tours, gatherings and a theatrical lūʻau. Manicured green lawns surround the estate, which now features Gaylord's restaurant and a number of unique shops like the Kōloa Rum Company.

Yelp
Went to dinner after the run tour and Food was awesome! The Brie appetizer was soo good, will definitely order that again. Had the shrimp gnocchi and that didn't disappoint.
google avatar

Ryan A.

Yelp
We came here to eat our 2nd night in Kaua'i on Saturday 29th. That atmosphere is unique here, you sit at tables that overlook the plantations grounds. Food was a bit pricey for the taste, but overall ok. I'd recommend this place because of its setting & experience. Service was good as well. One thing about a restaurant that's partially outdoors is it's going to be a tad warm.

Yelp
A happy hour review, came to kill a little time before we ended up at a forgettable place for dinner. Wonderful place to have a meal or drink as the grounds and store and other attractions are beautiful. Had a great sever and a sampling of Rum and an absolutely great Mai Tai!
google avatar

Ryan J.

Yelp
Finally somewhere where they are putting some time and effort into the food they're serving. They have an excellent happy hour from 3-5pm, the pulled pork sliders were fantastic. If you want to find some good food in a charming surrounding, I would highly recommend this spot.

Yelp
We had a lovely lunch at Gaylord's. First off the service from Amanda and Leslie was first-rate. Especially Leslie, she was on top of bussing tables and filling waters. The courtyard is beautiful and charming. Wonderful scene with a nice view in every direction. We ordered the misoyaki fish sandwich needed a bit more sauce but was still tasty. The portobello mushroom burger came without the caramelized onions, which was sad. But after I asked for some, the second half was much more flavorful. Great setting, fun to poke in all the shops.

Yelp
Truffle Fries. Short Rib. Scallops. Blueberry Cheesecake. Great service. Perfection. No notes.

Yelp
Every time we come to Kauai we love to come to Gaylords. I miss the horse and carriage ride that used to be on the property, but even without it, we still love this place and have many sweet memories with loved ones here. Ambiance is always amazing and the food is great.

Yelp
Great food and experience! The fish tacos I had were fresh and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place!

Yelp
Beautiful grounds and old plantation house/mansion. Sat outside in their ooen patio area with views of the lawn and property. Service was good. The ahi poke stack was full of the great flavors of its wonderful ingredients. That being said, my favorite was the quick fried brie. Topped with crushed macadamia nuts, truffle oil, and drizzled with honey.... delish!! The fresh catch of the day (local fish that i forgot the name of) was excellent. Served with truffle mashed, asparagus, and topped with a sweet sauce and crab meat. Yum!!
google avatar

Alexia H.

Yelp
Didn't reach our expectations, the service was great but the food fell flat. The filet was completely over cooked, the tenders thin and crunchy. The Fresh Catch Oscar was actually pretty good, flavors well thought out. (Thankfully we had ordered two of those). There are plenty of stray cats or plantation cats around at dinner time waiting to be fed. I wouldn't come back just based on the food there are plenty of other amazing restaurants on the island to eat at the same price point.

Britt H.

Yelp
I decided to go for a starter dinner and have dessert. I am so full!! Had the Caesar salad-so fresh and crisp with butter lettuce which I love. Then to the poke style beef tips with mushrooms- so yummy! Had the French onion soup which was temperature hot and flavorful. Ended with the plantation pie- an ice cream pie slice with macadamia nut brittle with a graham cracker crust, whipped cream and pineapple chunks on top. Service was good.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
This is a must stop if you are on Kauai and we highly recommend the Plantation Owners dinner prior to the show. You will enjoy a four course menu in an intimate setting. After dinner you will be escorted to the luau and provided with ringside seats for the show. Well worth the extra for the experience
google avatar

Yelp
Fun fun fun 40 minute train ride around the property. There is a stop where we got to feed pigs (tortillas) and horses (carrots). We also saw bulls, cows, and a donkey or two. Tons of fruit trees in their orchard. Beautiful place. Great value for $20.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
The food was AMAZING! We had French onion soup, salad and steak. The Alfredo kids meal was also very good. The service was HORRIBLE. Jesse was our server. He was so short with us when he would bring us food or drinks he would kind of throw them on the table. He never came to check on us we would have to flag him down. Definitely not a great serving experience. Really happy the food was delicious.
google avatar

Harold G.

Yelp
Old Kauai experience. Business lunch but plenty of tourists all around. Beautiful venue - courtyard outdoors but under roof. Light breeze. Ample parking. Excellent service. I'd go back.
google avatar

Rea T.

Yelp
After RUM at asking we had dinner here and we so happened even to catch a portion of the Luau! We ordered: DRINKS: - TAKINI - local fruits - blood Orange, tangerines in Tito's Vodka - MOJITO - with cucumber, mint, lavender syrup - VEGETARIAN CURRY WITH COCONUT SAUCE - FRESH CATCH OF THE DAY OSCAR (SEA BASS) - tasty - ahi poke tower - awesome good - PLANTATION PIE Service was great. Ambiance is very lovely especially being in a historic plantation. There was a luau going on and so we even got to check that out on the way out.

Yelp
I had the French onion soup, which was delicious. My husband and I both ordered the Shrimp Imperial. It was way overpriced. Both dishes were served cold (not even slightly warm). Lackluster sauce and gnocchi that wasn't made in-house. Shrimp was overcooked and extremely tough. No offers to refill iced teas. Rum flight was good. Mai Tai drinks were nice and strong, as expected. We ordered the Bananas Foster Cheesecake and Bread Pudding. Bread Pudding was good, but cheesecake was not. Crust was soft, as if not par-baked. Cheesecake had an odd sour taste with no flavor. There was only hints of banana despite the description. Bathrooms are WEIRD. I can only speak for the ladies room, but the stall I was in had a large window with a curtain that was 3" too short so seeing cars go past while you use the restroom was disturbing. Upstairs "store" sold soaps with crass labels (not family-friendly), so if you're with little kids who can read, be mindful of that. Also, they sell dresses that is also sold at Mahina however here they are $30 higher in price.
google avatar

Kelsey G.

Yelp
Ambience - 5! Very pretty and fun. They sat us the gazebo for our anniversary :) Service - 5! Great. They were so attentive and funny. Drinks - 5! The rum flight was super fun. So tasty. I had two cocktails that were good. Food - 3.5. Stuffed mushrooms were really good, but our entrees were both... fine. Good. Not great. However they were really clear and helpful regarding what is and isn't gluten free. Including gluten free banana cream pie! The rest made it so worth it, but just being honest that the food was not the selling point. But I would recommend.

Steward S.

Yelp
The food. Really a very poor showing from their kitchen. We have eaten here many times over the years but not for the last two. What a surprise to experience this remarkable decent of quality. Eat at your own risk.

Eleanor S.

Yelp
We had a lovely lunch. My friend's fish and chips and fish were just fine. I was annoyed that instead of the promised linguine specified with the mushroom sauce the pasta was spaghetti. Not everyone would object. I do. Maybe it's because I am of Italian descent. There is a definite difference between the two. Why say linguini when you are going to use spaghetti? The waiter was unwilling to say anything to the chef about it.
google avatar

Raymond A.

Yelp
We went here for Valentines Day and it didn't disappoint. We started with the Fried Brie, which was great. We all tried the French Onion soup and it was excellent. One of the best I've ever had. I had the Portuguese Stew and my wife had the Fresh Catch Oscar. Both were excellent. The stew reminded me of the Cioppino that I get in Monterey in CA, very well seasoned and hot. My wife loved her fish. Drinks were very good as was our service.

Yelp
We have been going to lunch and dinner here for years every time we are on the island at least twice a year. We made reservations for New Year's Eve dinner a couple of days ago. We arrived 45 minutes early and we only had to wait 15 minutes. We were given a great table and our waitress was very friendly. We ordered a cocktail and after she told us about the specials we both ordered the French Onion soup and the lamb shanks with black olive mint sauce and spicy cauliflower rice. I requested extra mint sauce for my plate. The French Onion soup came before our cocktails and it was delicious. Our dinner plates came out and there was no mint sauce. There was a little bowel of what turned out to be mushroom sauce which was terrible! The lamb shanks were over cooked and not very edible. The spicy cauliflower rice was too spicy and not edible either. When our waitress came back we both complained about the so called mint sauce and she said that it was mushroom gravy! We had eaten about a third of the meat which was stringy, dry and overcooked. We had her take the plates away as we didn't want it. She sent the manager over and he apologized for the problem. He listened to us and he offered us a free dessert and took one of the plates off of the bill. Last year we had an amazing dinner there but obviously things have deteriorated. At this point we are not sure if we will ever go back.

Yelp
Came to check out the plantation and ride the train to see the grounds. The train goes around the grounds and they tell you about the different kinds of fruits that were grown. We just came to see the grounds and did not eat here so I can't comment on the food or drinks. If you can, book your train ride ahead of time. Rides are about $22 for adults and $16 for (3-12), while kids under 3 are free.

Ray L.

Yelp
came here for two wedding celebrations.for one we took the train to another location on the property where they were grilling. very good meal especially with a pop up kitchen. other event was at main house, very beautiful setting with elegant setting. Combo crab stuffed fish and steak. Great elegant wedding venue but be aware there is no shade in either outdoor location for dining and wedding ceremony. So the sun can be strong and there could be a downpour

Ed C.

Yelp
This is a review for the bar and happy hour. The drinks, atmosphere and Kalua pork sliders were good but the chips and salsa were sad. I would have thought Gaylord's would make a fresh salsa but they just poured Jarred salsa ( I swear it's Pace Picante) into a bowl. Oh well. The rest of the experience was good.
google avatar

Paul N.

Yelp
One of the recent main highlights during my short inter-island getaway to Kauai! I was able to do the 40-minute train tour, which featured feeding their livestock (wild pigs, cows, donkey), and seeing their large orchards and fields. Our tour guide was informative and knowledgeable about the entire plantation overall!
google avatar

Kristi L.

Yelp
Ono lunch with my dear friends. The baked Brie was to die for with olive oil, honey drizzle and crunchy grapes. I enjoyed the beet salad after our snack.

M G.

Yelp
Excellent food, professional service and gorgeous outdoor seating. The only downside are the weak drinks from the bar. We wondered if there was more than one shot of liquor or watered down? Have cocktails elsewhere.

Peter Z.

Yelp
Went for lunch prior to flight home from Kauai. Old sugar plantation with shops and delightful restaurant. Sit outside and take in the grounds. Excellent service (Leah). Bar menu excellent with a fantastic mai tai served in a normal glass with plenty of rum! Beautifully prepared catch of the day and shrimp scampi were definitely delicious. Appetizers were good too. No room for dessert but menu exciting. Great value in beautiful setting. Well worth a visit
google avatar

Pamela L.

Yelp
Always delicious selection of entrees, nicely presented. Had Monchong fish daily special served Oscar style & Sea Bass miso which were both fabulous.
google avatar

Sandra J.

Yelp
I think I posted my original review on the Railroad site, which is also great fun. This amazing location is consistently exceptional food, particularly fresh fish, with fantastic service. Don't miss the desserts or at least plan to take them home with you.
google avatar

Ron W.

Yelp
First of all you are in Hawaii, how good can that get. I was given the name from a friend who had their anniversary dinner there. We arrived after making reservations. Our waiter was very nice and offered suggestions on some cocktails which we did order. We ordered appetizers to go along with our tomahawk steak we shared. the waiter did tableside carve our steak and I cant imagine a steak being any better cooked to perfection. We sat on the Patio and it was just a wonderful experience. As like any fine dining location expect to pay a premium price. But I will say it was worth it
google avatar

Yelp
We have been coming to Gaylord's for ten years. This trip to Kauai we have been very disappointed in all of our meals EXCEPT those we had at Gaylord's! The drive to the restaurant, entry and setting is just perfect. My husband had a mai tai. I had a lemon martini. We had the Brie appetizer. My husband had the burgundy chicken. I had the special scallops. Everything was perfect, from the moment you drive through the lights, the setting, options and food are amazing! Our server, Craig, was very knowledgeable and personable! We love Gaylord's! They have the best food on Kauai!!!

Daniela S.

Yelp
Rude bartender lady. Didn't even order anything just left from the restaurant... bad look for nice restaurant

Vijay A.

Yelp
Christmas dinner. The good - Very polite and friendly staff. The bad - cold soup. Drinks come late. Food js okay at the best. It was not mentioned in the website or open table or anywhere that they have a fixed menu on Christmas. May be it is good on a regular night. Not today for us.
google avatar

Rohan K.

Yelp
Excellent service, beautiful location. Food was so-so. The appetizers were really good. Price is $$$. Overall would come here with friends again and share plates on a sunny day.
google avatar

Lizbeth S.

Yelp
Love eating here. I love the courtyard seating. We sometimes go to the lounge just for an Irish coffee on the way home.
google avatar

Tina S.

Yelp
Two stars for the spinach dip being warm. The older lady at the bar was rude and unwelcoming. Wanted to sit on the patio for a drink and sip and she told us we had to sit inside due to an event setting up that never happened. Made our drinks and let them sit on the bar and when my husband walked up to get him she told him no she would bring them to us. She made other drinks and finally bring them to us when she wanted to. Same thing happen with our bill. Had to go get get it and she told us she'd get to us after making other drinks. I wouldn't suggest the bar due to unhappy lady working the bar!
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
Service, food and ambience are a pleasant surprise in what would appear to be a massive tourist trap. Everything we ordered was fresh and well prepared. Servers were friendly and attentive.
google avatar

Patrick L.

Yelp
Been coming here off and on for years with family. It is an excellent place to enjoy lanai eating. We come here for many special events birthdays, anniversaries or just for a nice gathering. The staff is very knowledgeable and explains all foods perfectly for no surprises. They structure the service with busing, service and delivery so you are never buried in empty dishes or waiting to order. Nice selection of tropical drinks and wines. Bread pudding is so good as well. Definitely one of the friendliest staffs and the grounds are great to walk around and enjoy. Reservations are probably recommended but it is a large place with lots of parking. The gift shops are enjoyable also. Recommend at least one visit when on Kauai.
google avatar

Letie W.

Yelp
Very $$$$!!! I'm not gonna lie! HOWEVER, it's a really nice place to celebrate an occasion. Food is very good, ambience is pleasant and definitely worth a visit.
google avatar

Eleanor E.

Yelp
Service was the best, Anna was amazing with her care of our party! The food was amazing. I had the fresh fish of the day, with jasmine rice and coleslaw. Melted in my mouth. Hans had the Kailua pork sandwich! He almost licked the plate. Banana cream pie was amazing with a coconut crust and lots of bananas and cream. We also had the crème brûlée, not bad, but midway to the best we have had! The Mia tias were great, the best we have had on the island!
google avatar

Jillian L.

Yelp
This was the best part of our trip to Kauai! We did the train, lunch, orchard adventure tour with the most amazing guide, Kai. You will get to walk though the orchard with a wide variety of fruit and get to pick and eat anything that is ripe, including some fruit you very likely have never seen before. Along the way our guide shared his knowledge of the history of sugarcane and the plantation, as well as the current activities of the plantation now sugarcane isn't being commercially grown. We had a great picnic lunch, then got to feed some of the animals corn tortillas. The kids had a ton of fun both finding fruit during the orchard stroll as well as feeding the donkey, horse, and pigs. Afterwards, we went to the manor house and found some unique, high quality gifts, which happen to be located in some of the manor's bedrooms.

Yelp
My son and I had dinner here tonight and everything was fantastic. He had fresh Tunis and he said they were awesome. I had onion soup that was delicious and the fish special which was with crabmeat and crusted in Parmesan. My fish was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I subbed the potatoes for extra asparagus and they too were delicious! My son had the garden salad and lamb chops and he couldn't even finish his dinner. Those chefs are wonderful and I will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Katherine H.

Yelp
This review is regarding the luau - the food was appalling very poor quality and not at all Hawaiian (vegetable lo mien??) no poi except upon request, undercooked fish, cold rolls out of a package etc etc. The venue is shabby and warehouse like. The only good part of the evening was the performance which was very well done. All in all I can't recommend unless you can overlook the horrible food and the unappealing venue.

Patricia T. M.

Yelp
Me and the girls had a night out after years of now seeing each other. We had a wonderful dinner. Everything we ordered truffle fries, stuffed mushrooms and assorted entrees.. perfect; the service was on point as well!! Want to definitely go back soon!!
google avatar

Lyndsey H.

Yelp
Our family had a wonderful time here. We did the train ride and buffet luau dinner and show. It was wonderful.
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
We did the rum tasting on the property a few times (review left for Koloa Rum Company there). We also decided to do the train ride on our last day in Kauai since we needed something else to do. The guide was very informative. We saw a lot of trees/plants growing on the property which is pretty expansive. You even get to feed the pigs during the tour. It was a nice ride for 40 minutes. The property is beautiful. They also have a restaurant on the property - Gaylord's which we did not try. I believe there was also a sweets shop there as well. I would recommend visiting here during your trip.

Chicken D.

Yelp
The young female hostess is a complete inconsiderate idiot - the one that was working on 6/26/2023 at 12:03pm. She was arrogant not accommodating and complete blasé about how reservations work or how to count. The train ride and staff there are AMAZING and great and the grounds beautiful.
