Upon entering a young man greeted us. We were confused on what to get. There were no prices on the fudge so when we asked for a slice and it was weighed , it was not what i expected. Overall it was good. Also, we got a toasted coconut ice cream as well. One of the older ladies was a bit rude when we asked about adding our fudge pieces to our ice cream and responded “what do you mean” in a rude way. We ignored it . Would have gave it a 5 if it weren’t for her.

Google
We just had two different flavours of ice cream. Awesome. If you’re calorie conscious do share with each other rather than having one each!!

Google
The treats food at this store a very delicious. They mix a lot of sweet and salty treats together to make an enjoyable dessert. My favorite item there that I would recommend is the chocolate se salt cookie or any of the taffy apples

Google
We Purchased several Chocolates and they tasted stale I then called them to advise they were hard as a rock I had never tased anything like that. I asked to speak with a supervisor and he advised me there is nothing they could do and that it was just made that way. I asked could I bring them back for refund or exchange and was advised no. Spending $20 on stale chocolate is not okay but I’ll take that lost and won’t be ever purchasing from a Kilwins again.

Google
I’m soo disappointed. I can tell the management here is not up to par. It doesn’t seem like anybody is happy or enthusiastic with their attitudes. The place is stale and boring. I used to come here all the time and it had a lively energy. These days it has a strange smell and everything is overpriced. Doesn’t even taste the same. Wouldn’t recommend. I don’t know if the ownership changed but all the old staff left and it doesn’t seem great.

Just came here with my family and it was truly the best and most fun experience ever!! Eric, Bridget, Talia, and Matt are the coolest. 10/10

Google
Spoke with two older gentleman that highly recommended Kilwins and the ice cream was great but the service was bad, the staff didn’t know their own covid rules and my server Jeffery was pretty rude about it. I understand it was a busy day but there is no need to get frustrated with customers. I won’t be going back to Kilwins even though the ice cream was great but because of the bad service. The rest of the staff seemed polite but rushed.

Google
Came here for some ice creams which was good; this place is very clean. I got two dishes and two kids scoops which were practically the same price.

Yelp
The service here is great, and of course the chocolate and ice cream is delicious! Highly recommend this for special occasions!

Yelp
I love a Kilwins but my husband and I went last night at 8:45pm and the door was locked. Obviously we were confused since a couple had walked out right before we walked up. The hours posted said 9pm so we politely knocked on the window. The worker sauntered over, annoyed and informed us they were closed. When we asked about the hours, he said the register was closed so they were done for the night. No other response than that. Luckily we strolled into Coldstone down the street and had a very pleasant interaction; this Kilwins lost a customer.

Yelp
First time visiting. The ambiance was very clean and bright and colorful. The candies, chocolates and icecream caught our attention. The service was quick and friendly. The icecream: Berry apple pie - had real pie crust bits in it. 4 stars. The chocolate coconut icecream: 1 star. We're sorry to say that because it looked so good but when we tasted it the coconut was overpowering. The coconut isn't fine ground either it's like serious strips of it. You have to be a real coconut enthusiast to appreciate it I think.

Yelp
My son wanted a scoop of ice cream, if it wasn't for him I'd never spend over $8 on a scoop of ice cream! I don't care where it's from this is absurd. It's not even made in shop!!!

Danielle F.

Yelp
Popped in on a Friday evening to acquire our creamy nightcaps. We were in and out of this quaint shop within a matter of minutes but it was still enough time for a scooper worker to ensnare one of our party in a mind game. With mal intent? Unlikely, yet, it remains unsure. He compensated her well with some complimentary sprinkles, however, and was also kind enough to plop an inverted cone atop my ice cream mounds (the only way to enjoy a small-sized cone with two flavors, apparently). I sampled the maximum allotted two flavors and ordered the Mackinac Island Fudge and Sea Salt Chocolate Caramel. No complaints for these flavors whatsoever, but I would recommend making a point to consume this treat in a timely manner. It melts viciously fast which can be a hazard to others on the road. Would return!

Yelp
Super cute little old-fashioned confectionary and ice cream shop. Clean and bright shop that gives you a feeling of stepping back in time. I am not joking when I wanted to eat it all! After trying a few samples, I went with a half scoop of Rum Raisin, and a half scoop of something called Evanston Mud or something similar. Both were good but really liked the Rum Raisin as it reminded me of an eggnog flavor. Had to be the rum. Staff was super friendly and it was such a good time looking around and feeling like a kid again trying to decide just what flavors I wanted. Great little find while visiting from out of town.

Joon K.

Yelp
Ice creams are so delicious. They have a good variety of flavors. Super creamy. All their ice creams are certified Kosher. They are also making waffle cones at the location. Kids were excited to see the process.

Ron E.

Yelp
Overpriced for a Kilwins. Willing to pay a premium for good ice cream, but the pricing is far higher than the value and compared to other Kilwins. Weighing the ice cream is also a bit too much, especially given how expensive it is, so you get very little for your money. Too bad, since I like patronizing family owned businesses.

Roman S.

Yelp
Its an OK place as far as I am concerned. If you are chocaholic it is your spot possibly. Its got great selection from truffles to galore of chocolate flavored ice cream and quite a few other things that I particular don't care to mention since this is not my thing. Pricing is a bit much. Single scoop ice-cream was above $8. It was a generous helping but none the less way more then I expected to pay. But then again its Evanston, that could be the reason. In any case I personally probably won't be stopping by but you chocalate lovers, with deep pockets might. But then again only you will know if it was worth it, since I am not much into chocolate.

Mary D.

Yelp
This is my guilty pleasure spot for dessert. I will come in to get fudge on special occasions and the staff is always really nice. I got the sea salt chocolate caramel fudge on my last visit and it was delicious.

Agustin C.

Yelp
5 experience. The customer service and the desert was amazing. Big thanks to Ada, Auset and Keith for their amazing help. Thank you guys. We will be back.

Bobby Y.

Yelp
Just walking into Kilwins Evanston and I was immediately struck by the wonderful aroma of fresh waffle cones. The ice cream selection was impressive and the service was fast and friendly. The shop is located in a convenient spot within downtown Evanston, making it a great place to grab a sweet treat for friends and family. Overall, I had a great experience at Kilwins Evanston and would highly recommend it to others.

Yelp
Came here with a big group to which we were greeted with a really warm welcome! ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 8/10 In terms of feel, you get the classic ice cream parlor but stepped up a bit if you will. It's a little modernized with a further modernized twist that I appreciated. The fudge is up front to tempt you and ice cream is further back. SERVICE: 10/10 We had great service here for such a large group. I was served very quickly and the staff were rather friendly. They accommodated 20+ people each trying multiple flavors of ice cream without a hitch. Excellent service. FOOD: 9/10 I just got an ice cream milkshake but it was quite good. Chilled but smooth and not icy, essentially perfectly made ice cream in a more liquid form. VALUE: 7/10 It's a touch expensive comparatively, but I think it is made up for in terms of quality. PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 9/10 I want to come back here to eat their fudge! TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT: Eat! No doubts! OVERALL: 9/10

Jennifer R.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE! As soon as you enter, you can smell the freshly made waffle cones kept warm under a heat lamp, waiting to be filled. Every flavor of ice cream is delicious and so chewy and stretchy... its hard to explain but I love the texture and its definitely something hard to find. Personal favorites are the marshmallow smores and cake batter! Super kind staff is probably another reason why i come where at LEAST once a month. *NU DISCOUNT 10% OFF*

Yelp
If I could put 0 stars I would. We used to take everyone here when they come to visit but after today never again. Went in with my husband and 2 year old and my husband wanted an extra spoon for our little guy to have some ice cream and the guy working behind the counter gives me a wooden stick so I asked if I could have a regular spoon for the little guy to eat ice cream and he said the owner won't let them give out spoons because it's part of inventory I asked if he was serious considering we got 2 ice creams why would you not give us an extra spoon?! He simply said no. Disappointed never going back there again.

Yelp
~Monica's T.A.S.T.E. test~ Taste: THE BEST HAND SCOOP ICE CREAM I've ever had, and one of my high school jobs was scooping ice cream. They make all their flavors in house, and that comes through with how creamy, smooth, and well crafted it tastes. I had a double scoop cut with 1 scoop marshmallow s'mores and 1 scoop Macinick island fudge (shared with my boyfriend Nathan D, see his review for another take on this awesome business). The s'mores is the no brainer crowd pleaser, tasting just like the childhood memories sitting around a campfire. The island fudge was good as well, filled with fudge and chocolate. Atmosphere: As you walk up to the store front you already smell the chocolate and vanilla goodness that is found inside. Everything is presented in glass cases so you can pick exactly what you want. Service: The attendants are amazing, super helpful and gracious. I probably tried 7 flavors (or more because they were all so good it was hard to pick just one!) and never once did they look annoyed. Tab: For a double scoop cup it's a little over $7, but the Northwestern discount at 10% helps soften the price. Even at $7, it's well worth it, considering that's the standard price at most restaurants. Extra wow factor: This place never misses. I've been here 4 other times and each time I find new flavors to enjoy. Does it pass the T.A.S.T.E. Test? Definitely!

Sam N.

Yelp
How can you go bad with chocolate covered Graham crackers...? You cant...they have like 4 or 5 different kind. Not since Mrs Fields closed on old orchard road many moons ago has my chocolate addiction been thrown for a loop.

Nathan D.

Yelp
Creamy | Variety | Attentive | Rich Creamy: The ice cream is so GOOD! and has a smooth texture which makes every bite even and delicious. Variety: Besides the 20+ flavors of ice cream they offer, they also have homemade fudge, an entire counter case of chocolate covered snacks/desserts, and caramel covered apples. If it is not here, it does not exist. Attentive: The guy behind the ice cream counter ... was an amazing salesman. We did not feel pushed to buy anything, but he was great at offering popular flavor samples and giving the motivation to splurge. Rich: Monica had a half scoop of cappuccino chocolate chip and a half scoop of marshmallow s'mores. Nathan had one scoop of peppermint flavor (which is only offered seasonally). All of them were delicious and required you take a pause after each bite because of all the flavor inside. Pro Tip: Northwestern Friendly: 10% off for students/employees. Pro Tip: Two flavors in one cup are allowed and honestly makes for a better cup of ice cream. Pro Tip: Free samples of ice cream and fudge

Jacqueline H.

Yelp
$8 for ONE scoop of sub par ice cream on a plain cone (that I ended up throwing out) - never again!

Jeff B.

Yelp
Fudge is not nearly as good as my mother used to make. I know several places in the area that have better ice cream and a couple that have better chocolate. the curious thing is the rather delusional pricing? Not better but grossly overpriced.

Mary S.

Yelp
Wow I'm so glad I found this place on yelp. The quality is top notch, everything handmade. You can taste it in the food, the quality of each chocolate, fudge, ice cream is delicious. It's a little pricey, but I feel justified with the quality of gourmet desserts you are receiving. It's better to splurge on something very high-quality then buy some artificial junk. I will be back 100%, highly recommend. Very friendly customer service too, The gentleman working there encouraged me to try things. It was awesome, there was never that feeling of weirdness when you wanna try a bunch of things but feel like the owner is annoyed with you (Ive experienced that many times) so yes, I tried the different fudge and different ice creams, everything was incredible. Man, if you have a sweet tooth do not come here, lol. I highly recommend the sea salt caramel fudge or if you're like me and like extreme chocolate then the dark sea salt caramel fudge is amazing! I took home the turtle fudge! There is parking right out front. Its located on a fun busy street with many shops.

Andrew R.

Yelp
Insultingly overpriced. Most off putting was a small milkshake that was more than 11 dollars after tax and was no better than one from Dunkin' Donuts. The consistency was gritty and the chocolate flavor very mild. A cheap franchise happy to charge mom and pop prices.

Ranillo R.

Yelp
Stopped in earlier today grab some dessert and found this gem of a place in downtown Evanston. Upon walking in they had a huge variety of dessert options from fudge, ice cream, chocolates, apples, etc. When I asked for recommendations, their better was the fudge particularly the chocolate salted caramel, which was amazing. I was also a fan of the peanut butter fudge as well. They both had a distinct taste and was very rich in flavor. They have a deal where you can buy 2 slabs and get a third slab of fudge for free, with each slab about 0.5lbs. It is definitely the best deal for the price. Price per lb of fudge is $18.99/lb, which is pricey, but for the quality it is worth it! Also, I was curious about their ice cream so I kept it simple with chocolate chip cookie dough in a waffle bowl. It was good ice cream, but the winner and must go here is the fudge!

Mari D.

Yelp
Yum!! I didn't know this was a chain, having just moved from california but the ice cream is really delicious and the service is always great. I love the Evanston road and the cappuccino chocolate chip. It is pricy at like $7 for a single scoop in a waffle cone but it's a nice pick me up treat

Allen C.

Yelp
Ice cream was delicious. Fudge is even better. They have some seating on the sidewalk too perfect for a summer night.

donna m.

Yelp
Came in to buy some candy for Easter. But the young man behind the counter was busy. The problem is that he didn't acknowledge me as I stood by the cash register to pay. I understand he was working on something but when I asked how long I needed to wait he put down what he was doing, acting disgusted with having to help me, punched out my order and was just rude. If he had just spoken up and said it would be five minutes that would have been better. And the turtle fudge slice I purchased was crystallized. Hard. Either overcooked or old. I had to toss it. Disappointed as I always shop at the Kilwins in Ludington MI.

Rim D.

Yelp
We were at Kilwins around 4:45pm today. The gal who attended to us just finished checking out a customer who came before us without washing hands and sanitizing. We already knew what to order and so I said peach ice cream in a cone. The handler picked up a cone with bare hands prior to putting napkin around the cone. Then scooped the top somewhat melted ice cream to put in my cone. So hot outside to have an already melted ice cream to carry around so I asked if she could scoop the frozen part instead which she did. My sister was next and she ordered ice cream in a waffle bowl. The gal again picked up the bowl with fingers on the waffle. My sister politely asked if she could get another waffle bowl which she did and then did the same exact thing. Kilwins needs to train their workers with proper handling of food. Proper hygiene and proper food handling are must in a food place. In addition, the portion of the ice cream was so small compared to other locations for the same price. Doubt we are going to this Kilwins location again!

Angela S.

Yelp
Every cloudy day can become sunny with a stop into Kilwins! If you need a pick me up, this place will cheer you up in no time at all. The shop is happy and bright on the inside, and I got to meet the super friendly co-owner Jeff. He owns this shop with his wife--how fun! Kilwins is a chain, but owned by individual operators. Known for their fudge and ice cream, all their other chocolates and sweets are also amazing (I've tried their various chocolates over the years in Lake Geneva). Oh, and now I have my new stop for marzipan fruit! Let's get to the fudge. Today I ended up trying the sea salt caramel, and it was so ooey, gooey, delicious. Loaded with large caramel chunks surrounded by chocolate and a nice refreshing salty finish, I am still savoring every last bite. Take note, you could never in a million years finish a slab (slice) in one sitting, or you'd be sugar-bonkered for hours. They do a great job of wrapping it so you can pick away at it (in my case it will be 2 days). I wish it could last longer, but it will be impossible to keep it away from my hubby. The fudge was $8, but you can also buy a half slab ;-) Can't wait to go back the next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Leslie A.

Yelp
My first visit here was during a weekday after a dinner at a local restaurant a friend and I came in here and there were three employees working and no one else in the store which made it a great customer experience we learned all about the fudge and the chocolates and candies and ice cream and even was able to sample the employees were very nice seems like young college kids at school at Northwestern was back in session I would definitely come back for the ice cream and if I had the appetite would have purchased some of the classic traditional homemade type fudge as those looked delicious as well however with my full stomach I could not even take a sample of that although it was offered There is street parking please note this is downtown Evanston therefore you will always have to pay for parking now there was a time along time ago when I first started driving 20+ years ago that that was not the case

Cristina C.

Yelp
This is a treasure! If you are looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, this is where you will land. They are new but they already making a strong impression. First of all, the store is super cute. I love the simple and homey feel they have. It's like going to the back-country and going to your favorite childhood candy store, that's how I felt going in there. Second, they have soo much chocolate I love it! Not only chocolate... they also have ice cream, gummies, and popcorn. They also make fresh waffle cones.. ugh it can't get any better than that. Most important to talk about is the taste. I am a sweets gal so, I am pretty picky. But, oh boy, is there fudge AMAZING! It was soft, creamy, and decadent. I tried their famous Salted Caramel Chocolate Fudge and it was perfect. It wasn't too sweet with the caramel and there was a perfect amount of salt to get that balancing taste. I obviously haven't tried everything, but I intend too. Big plus, the owner Jeff is super nice and sweet (haha get it, sweet!). This is going to be a hit especially in the summer!

Surim H.

Yelp
I loved the feeling of walking into this brightly lit store. This place is a one stop shop for desserts that are handmade which makes this place even more special. You'll find delectable fudge, chocolate, Taffy apples, ice cream cake and ice cream. I think I counted about 10 different varieties of fudge. Jeff, the owner was very friendly. He offered samples of the fudge before I was made with the hard choice of having to pick one for my free sample. I couldn't choose just one so I splurged on a quarter slab! I chose the signature turtle and the English walnut. I loved how their caramel was so soft and gooey. You can taste that it's made in house without all the fakeness. A quarter slab came out to be a little over $5. I wasn't too sure what the difference was between fudge and chocolate but Jeff clarified it to me. He basically explained that fudge is sweeter and softer than the usual chocolate bark we're used to. I concur with Angela that there's no way you'll finish one of these slabs in one sitting. After my samples I told Jeff I think my sugar tooth for the day has been satisfied. If you're in the neighborhood this place is a must try!

Jess T.

Yelp
If you haven't stopped by yet, you must come and try their FUDGE. It is beyond delicious, absolutely melts in your mouth, and super smooth. I had the sea salt caramel which is rightfully one of their bestsellers. But they're happy to let you sample other flavors! They also had very kid-friendly looking chocolate dipped sticks at $1.25 each, which is a perfect after-school treat - or just treat yourself (: I passed by Kilwins a couple of months ago as they were preparing to open in Evanston, and watched through the window as they made fresh caramels, toffee apples, and all the wonderful goods now available in this downtown location. I love the commitment to trying to have their goods made in-house. Apart from the fudge and chocolates, the ice cream rack looked very tempting indeed. Its not ice cream weather, but come warmer weather, I think it's safe to say I'll be here plenty. The flavors aren't all what you'd typically see in an ice cream store, with many flavors that are more chocolatey/ fudgey as opposed to fruity - again, a nod to having their ice cream created in-house as well. Another great addition to Evanston!

Chuck S.

Yelp
These guys are the best. The chocolate, the ice cream, the toffee, the fudge, the oreo bark, the truffles, the caramel apples, it's all great. Everything they make is pure magic. Their hot chocolate will change your life. Seriously. Try the hot chocolate. Highly recommend.

Shahna R.

Yelp
I couldn't take a picture of the giant dark chocolate covered marshmallow on a stick that I bought today at Kilwin's. Why? Because my teenage daughter immediately stole it and started rapidly consuming it in all its chocolate marshmallowy goodness. I managed to score a few bites and it was delicious! A perfect balance of rich dark chocolate and fluffy homemade marshmallow. The caramel apple I bought shall be consumed by me alone after my children have gone to sleep. Shhhh. Kilwin's is immaculate and the candy is displayed beautifully. We were offered a sample of fudge immediately after we were greeted, which was not only welcoming, it was downright scrumptious. The two young staff members were awesome and shared the story of the family owned store and their own backgrounds in candy making. The candy and caramel apples are all made on premises and the freshness shines through in the taste. Go here!

Joanne M.

Yelp
Some of the best ice cream on the North Shore! Kilwins is a chain seen mostly in touristy areas but it's so good. So good that my 13 month old was upset that he finished his ice cream! Everything is fresh and just tastes good. They even make their own waffle cones in the store. The staff is super friendly and takes pride in their work.

Linda L.

Yelp
BEST CARAMEL APPLE EVER! With the colder weather, I was craving a good caramel apple. I looked here on Yelp and Kilwins came up first. I hadn't even noticed their store before! I've been missing out on something wonderful. The shop is very clean and bright and all the displayed sweets are all over to be admired. Beautiful chocolate candy, ice cream, delicious looking fudge and a whole display of caramel apples! I got the one with a layer of caramel, dipped in dark chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt. She cut it into sections, making it easy to handle. I will definitely be back and highly recommend this great place!

Ellie P.

Yelp
They are the sweetest people, and their sweets are just as sweet!! Their chocolate is amazing; their truffles are unreal; their ice cream is FAB (especially the kilwins tracks); their peanut brittle is the best in the land; and their chocolate covered strawberries actually made me like chocolate covered strawberries!!!

Amy H.

Yelp
I was walking by this place at night and saw that they finally opened and walked in. There are so many options to satisfy your sweet tooth, from fudge to chocolate to ice cream. The staff are really nice! I got to try a couple of sample of ice cream and got a single scoop in a waffle cone. It was about $6, which I guess is pretty steep for ice cream, but the Kilwins original recipe ice cream in a warm waffle cone was definitely worth it even though it was 40F out. I will have to come back to try their fudge!

Darien B.

Yelp
The staff was very rude and snippy. They did not act like someone who appreciates the business of customers. Because of this, I did not order. Will not go back.

Anne D.

Yelp
This place has amazing ice cream and sorbet! I got their rasberry sorbetti, and it was amazing!! Rich flavor and perfect texture. Reasonably priced for the high quality. I didn't try any of their chocolate or sweets, but it all smelled and looked so good! The service was fast and kind. I also liked that they physically weighed out the amount of sorbet into a dish.

Karen L.

Yelp
All the Kilwins I've ever been to are great, this one is no different. I got an apple which was a little off. One of the employees noticed, came up to ask me if everything was okay and pointed out my apple, and quickly offered a replacement. I didn't really care that much, but it's really nice to see that they care that the customers are fully satisfied and are committed that you get fresh, quality desserts. If you want a dessert this is the place. My husband raves about the cherry flavor, but I have a pistachio preference. Whatever sweet you're craving you'll surely find something here.

Hsaio F.

Yelp
One of the best places to go for chocolates, fudges, a variety of other chocolate treats and chocolate dipped strawberries which has to be preordered.

Niq J.

Yelp
I love the social distance friendly walk up window. I'm so happy to be able to get my yummy treats again. The online ordering system is also super smooth. I love how fresh everything is and how nice the employees are.

Stephen M.

Yelp
Don't even bother going here. The ice cream is good but 2scoops, no toppings for $8, no way

Steven D.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to trying this place, and frankly... it was bad. TERRIBLE! Overpriced, bad quality, and they got my extremely simplistic order INCORRECT. What's the deal, Kilwins? Lower your prices and give me what i ask for. And make it TASTE BETTER!

Thomas B.

Yelp
Very good popcorn, very good chocolate. Truffle dark chocolate is excellent. Service was excellent. I will be visiting again.

Gobi D.

Yelp
My friend introduced me to this place yesterday for hot chocolate. I have to say that upon entering I was quite tempted by all the chocolates and candies and sweets that were laid out. Every single one looked attractive. I focused on the hot chocolate though. It was really good hot chocolate. An interesting mid point between pure liquid chocolate and milky hot chocolate that was just right and that I have never had before. Enjoyed it and will be back.

Hawi B.

Yelp
Omggggg soooo good. I couldn't stop eating it long enough to write a review. I got the double bowl pecan praline and cake butter with chocolate fudge on top! Mhhhmmmmm I was in sugar heaven. The place was packed but I understand, it's one of those small yet powerful places. They offered a wide variety of speciality chocolates and particularly seasonal treats ( they had Easter bunny stuff this time around). The staff was really nice and I loved the atmosphere! I got an unlimited amount of samples and boy did I make use of it. They were very kind and didn't get upset with me at all. Excellent customer service. This location is in a college campus setting and you do have to pay for parking but it's just a couple dollars or so nothing too crazy.

John F.

Yelp
Handmade fudge, ice cream, ice cream cakes (grasshopper is my fav), chocolate covered pretzels, handmade caramels. SO happy they opened a location in Evanston. Yesterday I stopped in and sampled ALL the fudge and maybe bought a pound of it and now can't stop thinking about going back for an ice cream cake.

Allyson B.

Yelp
Ice cream is always great, but I am most impressed by the super hard working staff. Evan served us from the covid-safe window and she worked hard taking care of everyone in line and preparing orders, visibly hustling to make our wait short but that the orders are perfect. Shakes were delish and the customer service was above and beyond.
