Disclaimer #1: This visit was based on a GroupON deal that was expiring within a week.
Disclaimer #2: My review is mainly concerned with the "food" part of this establishment. The music venue appears to have great sound and seating area.
The wife and I decided to drop in after Saturday evening mass nearby for a bite to eat before heading home. Upon entry, we were immediately stopped and asked to pay a $5 cover for music that we didn't necessarily want to hear. The bartender/doorguy/whoever it was told us that we had to sit in the bar (where there was two tables, one of which had about 20 coats on top of it) or the dining room (which had about 3 tables the ladies' rest room, kitchen and a pile of stuff). We chose the dining room and was told to order at the 'other bar' that doubled as the check-in/check-out/register, etc.
With no menu on the tables and no menu on the wall, we were perplexed as to "what to order". When I approached the counter and asked for a menu, I was given two brochure type menus with a very limited list of options. My wife chose the Chicken Nachos and I chose the flatbread pizza.
Ooopss..."we don't do flatbread pizzas anymore...".
Ok, so i take a moment and decide on the tacos.
Ooooppss..."we don't do tacos anymore either...as well as spinach..." and some other stuff.
So, I settled on a 'homemade sausage pizza'.
While waiting for our order, we were amazed at the lack of music emitting from the main room (where it was packed full). Evidently the $5 cover charge allowed you to listen to live music but didn't guarantee that anyone would be performing. Not sure if there was a no-show or equipment problem but, seriously, we only heard two or three songs while we waited for our food.
Speaking of the "waiting for our food"...after 60 minutes, we finally asked if we were going to get our nachos and pizza which was answered with a "we were really hit hard tonight and the kitchen is really backed up". This was after the young lady came out of the kitchen, made contact with us and said (loudly enough that we could hear her)..."SHIT!" and turned back into the kitchen. My guess is that our order was lost.
After a few more minutes, I caught the young guy who was going back and forth and asked him if we could just get our order to go (if we were going to get it within a few minutes) because we had been out all day running and were just tired and hungry. Thankfully, the order did come and we took it home. The nachos were not that great and the pizza was literally covered with ground sausage crumbles (or maybe ground beef?). It wasn't bad but a bit salty. Nothing i would go back for again...
As for a bar and music venue, it probably is a good place to see live music, especially if you get there early enough to get seating. The interior is really (REALLY) run down. I guess that is the motif or style they are trying to present. Didn't bother me as I've been in plenty of dive bars but the wife was less than impressed. The bar has great beer options...not sure about cocktails. As for thinking it's a food establishment, I would not recommend it at all and i believe the GROUPON deal which explicitly did not include alcohol is misleading.
So, if you're looking for food, go elsewhere...if you're looking for live music, give it a try.
