Beloved Maui Restaurants Will Never Reopen After the Lahaina Fire - Eater

"Kimo’s in 1977, it was the beginning of their T S Restaurants empire... A trip to Maui was hardly complete without tackling a mammoth slice of Hula Pie at sunset." - Shannon Wianecki

"This airy, oceanfront restaurant can get crowded, so expect a wait whenever you go. It’s worth it, however, for the stellar menu of Hawaiian seafood dishes, plus the tropical cocktails. Pair a ginger mojito or strawberry piña colada with pupus (appetizers) like macadamia-crusted calamari and soy-ginger ahi poke , topped with local Surfing Goat Dairy cheese. Then move on to entrées like citrus-herb grilled fish tacos or the coconut-crusted catch of the day. If you’re not one for seafood, there are also excellent burgers and a teriyaki sirloin on the menu."

This was one of my fav restaurant in Maui, love the ocean front view. The breeze, the ocean water. It’s located in Lahaina town. We were there before the fire broke out. Not sure if they rebuild it or not. Food was great. Love the view. Can walk around burn some calories after lunch or dinner. Staffs were wonderful.

Google
Amazing food. Amazing scenery. This place is an absolute must while on the island! We called ahead and made reservations for 4, and we're able to get right in on time. It is right on the beach, so you get a great view of the ocean! Make sure to bring some sunglasses if you go during sunset because that sun gets brutal as it sets in the evening. Best fish and chips I have ever had (honestly). Also, the hula pie is an absolute must-have for dessert. It most definitely lives up to the hype! Parking is best if you go to the free parking at the shopping center just north 2 block. It's an easy walk, and you can stop at a few gift shops along the way.

Google
Definitely should get the hula pie! I was happy with the cheeseburger and fries. The fish wasn't bad but tasted bland. Enjoyed the beachfront and even looking over the balcony, we found some nails and crabs on the rocks below which the kids loved! The staff was attentive and friendly. They have an interactive packet for the kids to color and then if they play bingo (find things around them) then they got a free Frisbee! It helped to keep them distracted and in their seats.

Google
The food here was absolutely incredible. Pricey, but fresh and flavoured well! The fish was melt-in-your-mouth good. The hula pie was delicious. The staff was attentive and friendly to us. The view was also nice, overlooking the ocean. Would definitely go back here!

Google
Sadly, this is one of those restaurants that used to be really good, great food, great service, etc. But now they just hustle you in and hustle you out. It has become so popular because of the amazing ocean and sunset views. I have always enjoyed the prime rib here, but it was so disappointing this time. Very dry and tasteless. The seafood special was good but not outstanding as it should be based on the pricing and the caliber of restaurant they are trying to be. Don't bother showing up without a reservation, the hostess will be rude and make it very clear she will not have room for you. I'm sorry to say, it's not worth a return trip for me.

Google
We had an excellent meal at Kimo’s . We both had fish dishes, which were delicious. We were there for the sunset, which was amazing. The views from the patio deck are terrific. They had two musicians playing for the sunset hour, which was charming! Our server was attentive and informative. I would highly recommend!

Google
The fish tacos are exceptional, maybe the best I've had. Paired with a draft craft beer IPA made it even better. The Kimo's Baked fish with rice and macaroni salad was also excellent. And to top it off the Hula Pie was super yummy too. The hostess who seated us and our server were friendly and professional. Truly a 5 star experience.

Google
This restaurant is situated on the popular Front Street, right on the water. Unfortunately, we got there after sunset and weren’t able to take in the views. At the time, the live vocalist was finishing up, around 8pm. He was very talented and showed real affection for the crowd. Not sure if that was just that night or if he’s always like that, but it was quite endearing. Our server was fun and friendly. The food was fresh. Taste wise, it was ok. Not great, just good, hence the 4 stars. The vibe was the most significant part here. With the waves crashing beside us, the beautiful music, the mix of customers, and outgoing staff, it’s a great spot to visit while on vacation. Try to get there while the sun is still up!

Yelp
Will always miss this place. 40 + years of good times. Fabulous service, food, and good memories.

Yelp
Missing the old Kimo! Hopefully you will rebuild and return! Lahaina won't be the the same without Kimo's Hula Pie!!

Yelp
Food -**** Service-** Good food, lovely ocean views but minimal vegetarian options. Agreed its Maui & their specialty is seafood but their waitresses definitely need training on being sensitive to diverse groups of diners including non sea food/ meat eaters. The lady serving us got annoyed at our questions about whether we could get certain dishes without the meat / seafood. First time experiencing such an attitude at a restaurant. Also we were just ordering family style for table but she wanted to know which person its for and insisted on it. We loved our vegetarian dishes ultimately thanks to their talented chef but service could be friendlier.

Yelp
5 out of 5 stars easily. Cant get enough of what this view was. I was too late to write this review. Thoughts and lots of love continue for the people of Lahaina.

Yelp
Kimo's is one of the best restaurants in Lahaina. Getting a table on the water is a special treat. The ambiance is awesome; however you have to wait til a spot opens up, so be patient. Our server was Alyssa who was terrific and attentive. She went through the specials and we each chose the monchong which is a tender flaky fish paired with a delicious spicy sauce. Then for dessert we shared the traditional Kimo's Mud Pie which is a monster wedge of vanilla ice cream with an Oreo bottom crust and topped off with chocolate sauce, macadamia nuts and whipped cream. All in all a great meal and a great experience at Kimo's.

Yelp
Managed to snag a reservation for 6:15pm on the day of, though I highly recommend reserving ahead. The staff here are very attentive, helpful, and friendly. Upon arrival, we were presented with two options for seating, and they treated us with grace when we happened to change our mind about where we wanted to sit. We were seated right on the water with a fantastic view of the sunset (though be warned that everyone will migrate towards the railing at sunset for pictures, but eventually you'll be rewarded with an unobstructed view). Our server Jessie was amazing and very friendly and patient, and I really appreciated how honest she was about some our original picks on the menu. We were there to celebrate my dad's birthday, and she certainly made it special. For appetizers we ordered the Ahi Avocado Stack, Ahi Sashimi, and the Fire Roasted Vegetable dip. The fish was fresh with great bite and flavor, and I really enjoyed the avocado stack. The vegetable dip was paired with a goat cheese and herb flatbread and is a little pricey for what it actually is, but a great vegetarian option. I was pleasantly surprised by the complimentary carrot muffins with butter and sea salt. These were amazing. We also opted for the normal mai tais as well as their sweeter ali'i mai tai made with a toasted coconut rum. They do not mess around with the strength of their drinks! Main course: I ordered the Sesame Crusted Ahi, and the rest of my family ordered the Prime Rib, Wild Mushroom and Spinach Ravioli, Parmesan Crusted Fresh Fish (which was Ono for today), and a special of the day which was a monchong wjth a Sambal seasoning and aioli served with coconut rice. My entire family was so impressed with entrees all around, and think we ordered all of the highlights from the menu. My ahi was seared perfectly and so fresh. The prime rib was gigantic and paired so well with the accompanying jus and sour cream. The Parmesan crusted fish was moist and had a great flavor and bite from the crust. The ravioli had a unique take on pesto, using basil and macadamia nuts for a delicious experience. We also received a complimentary Hula Pie for my dad's birthday, and this was enough for 5 of us to split after this meal--it is huge! Overall, I cannot recommend Kimo's enough for the drinks, food, ambiance, and service. An absolute must visit no matter where you are in Maui.

Yelp
We absolutely loved the Hula Pie. 1 gigantic slice and 3 sporks. I now want sporks for my house. We liked the Mai Tais. We didn't love them. Hence the 4 stars. Beautiful location.

Yelp
Dessert Review Only. Our friend said we H A D to try the hula pie, so we made a final stop here on our last night in Maui. What We Ordered: + Hula Pie, 5/5 - Mango Pono Pie, 2/5 HULA PIE was good, with vanilla ice cream in the middle and a chocolate cookie base (think Oreos!). If you love these two things, than you'll love this dessert. MANGO PONO PIE was not a crowd pleaser. Even the adventurous ones downvoted this dessert. Hawaii grown mango, nut crust, Maui honey, Kyla strawberries, and mint. If that sounds delicious to, give it a shot. Our group thought it was too sour. 3 stars because the Hula Pie was good, but I wouldn't go back just for that. It's also best shared between AT LEAST 4 people unless you're tryna get the beetus.

Yelp
Very hard to beat the ambiance with the tremendous ocean view looking toward Lanai watching the sunset. 5/5 The service is very efficient aloha friendly and fairly fast considering Kimos is usually packed because of the views. Our server was great, The kitchen can run a little slow. 4/5 We ordered pups and one main for the two of us. My wife was ver hangry after 18 holes on the trying plantation course with 40mph winds and rain. We had the coconut prawns or shrimp which were over cooked thus dry and the coconut flavor gone. For $20 a rip off. 1/5 The macadamia nut crusted calamari strips well we could not taste the nuts at all though they were perfectly cooked. So don't expect anything special. 3/5 The pulled Kalua pork lettuce wraps were the best item we had. Tasty sauce and the pork was succulent. 4/5 The kimos baked fish of the day was Mahi and was an utter disappointment. No flavor left in the overcooked fish. Salad was tasteless as well. 1/5 Do not come here for the food as you probably will be disappointed. Over rated and priced but great views service and ambiance

Yelp
Waited in a small outside line to have lunch at Kimo's. At opening time, we walked right in, no reservation, and were seated at a lovely ocean view table. The scenery is fantastic! The food was pretty good, at our table it seemed that the fish and chips were most popular. The Hawaiian burger was a normal burger, nothing super special. The Broke Da Mouth plate lunch was good but a little sparse for the price ($27). Our server was friendly, got us our drinks and app right away, and checked on us often. Lunch and drinks for 4 of us cost close to $150 which is pretty standard for nicer spots in Maui, but sitting and eating lunch right by the water, enjoying the beautiful weather made it worth it! I'd love to come back and try the Hula Pie for dessert!

Yelp
Lovely ocean view, great service, and delicious food. Highly recommend the kimos burger and the fish tacos for a lovely lunch. Left feeling very satisfied and full.

Yelp
This was super packed this good Friday. It is def hard to find parking but man when you do the view and walk make it so fun. Our server was sincerely the best and made my grandmas 70nth so pleasurable. They were able to accommodate our big party last minute for my grandmas big bday. She was gifted a hula pie. The prime rib omg it was so delicious!!!! I was so satisfied sharing with my hubby and we devoured within minutes. The chowder had so much texture and flavor was amazing. I am so thankful for this experience! We are all so blessed by this time with one another

Yelp
I actually can't believe I forgot to write a review of Kimo's, because I think this was one of my favorite dinners of all time. Kimo's checks off all the boxes you want in a dining experience: 1) the views are absolutely unreal, 2) the food is super tasty, 3) the service is great, and 4) the vibes are truly immaculate at Kimo's. We started off with the fire roasted vegetable dip (which I sadly forgot to take a picture of) and it was good! It was the only vegetarian appetizer, so I'd probably have to order it again if I went back. I wish there was another option, but it was still good either way. For dinner, I ordered the fish tacos and they were SO delicious! I actually wish it was 3 tacos instead of 2, and that way we wouldn't need the side of the chips and salsa. My partner ordered the parmesan crusted fresh fish which he said was really good. I taste tested it and would absolutely order that next time. We ended the evening with sharing a huge slice of hula pie. This was my first time ever trying it and I can honestly say that it lived up to ALL the hype I'd heard about it! A friend actually told me to come to Kimo's just for this dessert, and I'm so glad I listened. It's an 11/10 dessert. The atmosphere at Kimo's is unmatched; you feel energized just being here. Definitely a 10/10 experience that I've recommended to anyone I know!

Yelp
Kimo's is a bit easier to make a reservation at than some other Maui restaurants these days. It is a big place with plenty of tables. Nice views of the water are possible both on the main and 2nd floors. They are right on the ocean, so very pretty sunsets! Check out the shops and galleries of Lahaina before or after your meal given the central location. The menu is simple but tasty. This is a place for fresh seafood. Not overly fancy, but reliably good. The service is usually friendly and timely as well. Their complimentary bread basket is carrot muffins, which are something different but very tasty!

Yelp
I've been to this location twice already during my travels. Never have been disappointed. I make reservations in advance so I'm not waiting too long as this place is popular throughout the day. The servers are kind ( Stephanie) and the front desk staff has been always welcoming! Ordered the following appetizers: MACADAMIA NUT CRUSTED CALAMARI! Delicious! Accompanied with house made cocktail sauce COCONUT SHRIMP accompanied with cider honey mustard sauce Delectable!!! Ordered the following entree's: KIMO'S BAKED Fish with Roasted basil, lemon & garlic glaze, macaroni salad, jasmine rice Pure deliciousness! FISH TACOS Citrus herb grilled, pico de gallo, queso fresco, roasted tomatillo aioli, tortilla strips ( I personally like pico de gallo on the side just so I can taste the goodness of the fish!) Can't go wrong ordering this entree! FISH 'N' CHIPS Maui Brewing Co. Bikini Blonde Lager battered, house made tartar sauce, crunchy apple cider coleslaw It was a little bit on the greasy side but delicious and the fries were nice and crispy. SLOPPY JACK Slow roasted Duroc pork, crunchy apple cider slaw, BBQ sauce, brioche bun This option was flavorful and good!! We were all too full after sampling all the meals that dessert was not an option this time. I was told to save my receipt so I can get a complimentary hula pie (Chocolate cookie crust, macadamia nut ice cream, hot fudge, toasted mac nuts, whipped cream) at their sister locations ( Leilanis ) on the island. Great view, great vibe here, recommend this place to visit when in Lahaina.

Yelp
My husband and I really wanted a nice place to watch the sunset and enjoy drinks. We had looked up a few places on Yelp, but Fleetwood on Front's was more of a music venue that obstructed the sunset, and there was another restaurant nearby I think called Lahaina Yacht Club that had seats at the bar, but the bar seats were nowhere close to the beautiful sunset view. We happened to find this place finally, and I'm glad we did. The seats at the bar were perfect for staring at the gorgeous sunset!!! I got a mango slushee, which was honestly too sweet - couldn't finish it. My husband got a Mai Tai, too sweet, just whatever. We also shared French fries, only $3, which did hit the spot. Maybe their food here is better! Service was fantastic though. The drinks came super fast, and they were very friendly and hospitable too! There was also live music here that was going to start at 6pm - we love live music, but we wish it started at 4:30 when we were watching the sunset. Oh well. Overall, great place to watch the sunset, highly recommended! Overall, great

Yelp
Super popular touristy spot downtown Lahaina, but I still love it. Awesome waterside views and good food too. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Cost to worth it rating: 3 Opentableable: yes but limited avail Return worthiness: yes Highlights: - Love the unobstructed view of the water on the deck for lunch - Fish sandwich: extra delicious and fresh. 4.5 stars - Hula pie: big slice of ice cream and chocolate and mac nut have to have every time. 4 stars - Coconut shrimp: large shrimp breaded nicely. 4 stars - Mai tai: not too sweet and in a glass tiki goblet - Super nice staff even though they're busy - If you go right when they open, there will be a line but you can get lucky and get a table Lowlights: - Hard to make a reservation since it's so popular Love the relaxing meal here which epitomizes a Hawaiian vacation and will be back.

Yelp
4.5 Stars - We were staying near the Whalers Village where most of the restaurants seemed to be the same. As a foodie, we wanted something different as the places down in Lahaina offered more variety on their menus. Kimo's didn't disappoint. We had a reservation and got a great table upstairs with a view of the ocean. Our server was great. We arrived prior to sunset and she didn't try to rush us out of there. They start us off with homemade carrot muffins. We then tried their fire roasted veggie dip which came with grilled flatbread and goat cheese. For our main dishes, we had the baked local fish "Kimo's style" and a lobster topped fish. Everything was delicious. For our anniversary, they brought us a slice of their Hula Pie. Thank you Kimo's for getting our trip started on the right note. We enjoyed our meal and would recommend Kimo's even over their sister restaurants in Ka'anapali.
google avatar

Mandi R.

Yelp
We love Kimo's. My heart is broken for the restaurant, employees, and of course, all of the residents of Lahaina and Maui. Kimo's always had fabulous food. Service was hit or miss, but that didn't stop us from coming back. Absolutely stunning location right on the water. May they come back stronger and swiftly!
google avatar

Zach S.

Yelp
Our favorite Oceanside happy hour spot and you need to check it out. Go now. They have two mai tais not sure which is better but who cares, you came for the fun atmosphere and views. The Lahaina Lemonade should be your second choice. If the LL is your first choice then it may be fore second or third!! Tropical itch? They got you. The fish tacos are delicious. Burger was pretty good. I'm on the island so I go for seafood. Tips: grab a drink and sit at the bar if waiting for table. Dinner they open the top area, it's just the outside open for lunch and happy hour but there is plenty of shade if needed. Their merchandise is top notch. Hard and tshirts are a winner

Yelp
My family tends to go here every time we visit Maui. Don't get me wrong, it is a decent restaurant that is pretty consistent with it's food. But I've gotta be honest, there is just nothing new here that I haven't tried already ten years ago. Kimo's is great. It is a Maui classic. But I do believe there are better, newer restaurants with flavors that will catch any food lover's pallete. That carrot bread muffin with butter...slaps! Great stuff. And the hula pie.... GOLD. You guys, get it. Order it! The other entrees they offer are more "meh" to me.... Plus, way too expensive for these simple dishes that are offered at every nice Maui restaurant that has been alive for the past 20 years.
google avatar

Julia K.

Yelp
This place is right by the ocean, so if you're lucky, you can get a table that gives you a view of the water. They have a large selection of drinks and food to choose from, although a bit pricey. I highly recommend the Broke Da Mouth Luau Plate. It's both filling and delicious. My favorite part of it is the Duroc pork ribs. It falls right off the bones. Super flavorful! The drink is the Lava Flow and it's quite tasty. It's a frozen drink, so it's perfect for the hot weather.
google avatar

Shirley L.

Yelp
One major key point, time your meal to enjoy a Maui sunset at your table. I love that they allow pay by phone with the QR code at the end of the meal to increase efficiency. No need to pull out the credit card and wait for it to return to you. The food was better than other restaurants on the island. I'd highly recommend the calamari for its crispiness and thick cut.
google avatar

Cristina M.

Yelp
Came here for dinner last week to meet with friends from the mainland and we had a lovely time. We were seated in the back patio overlooking the water, they had music that night and we got to watch the sunset. My daughter and I shared their beet salad and the monchong fish special they were having. It was delicious and fresh! Also had mai tais which was great and the humongous ice cream pie dessert that we all shared! Great vibe here and our server was sweet and attentive. Nice location in Lahaina, we passed by this restaurant a few times while we were there shopping/strolling and this was place was always packed! Will definitely come back when we visit Maui again!

Yelp
My wife and I planned to eat at Kimo's for dinner on a Friday night but didn't have reservations. We approached the hostess and was informed that we can be put on a waitlist in case someone does not show up but the soonest would be 8PM. Luckily while walking around Lahaina, we were able to get a text and get seated at around 5PM! We were seated in the back which had a great view of the sun setting. Depending on the day, it can get sunny and hot so make sure you have sunblock or something to cover up! They served us an appetizer of carrot cake muffins which were nice, moist, and not too filling. We also started with drinks specifically the Kimo's Mai Tai and Wicked Wahine. The mai tai was flavorful and had a good balance of rum and juices - definitely one of the better mai tai's I've had on our trip and I had plenty. The Wicked Wahine was also good which was like a spiked POG juice. As for main courses, I had the Baked Kimo's Style and the fish today was ono. It was more firm and juicy fish, almost like chicken, and it was seasoned well. My wife got the Parmesan Crusted Fish which was mahi mahi. It was also flavorful and the flakiness of the fish complemented the dish well. Kimo's is a great place for seafood especially since their fish changes frequently. If you want a place to try fresh fish that you've never had, I'd recommend them since they know how to make them well!

Yelp
Kimo's is a truly special dream come true. Guaranteed delicious, beauty and fun. Excited for Kimo's to rebuild and reopen.

Yelp
We had reservations at 4:30 PM! I love the vibe and friendly service! It was only my husband and I having dinner here. We sat on the 2nd floor by the window during sunset, and it was absolutely stunning! I had to wear a hat and sunglasses, but that didn't bother me at all! We ordered the macadamia nut calamari, which was so delicious! I love fried food, and this one was crispy on the outside and thick and meaty on the inside. It was perfect! The crab and shrimp salad was sooooo refreshing! I'll be ordering this again the next time I come! I loved everything on it! My husband ordered the shrimp pappardelle and thought it was good! It was a little too salty for my liking. The mango drop martini was yummy! They serve it with mango candy! It was a good drink to start with. Omg! I almost forgot the carrot muffins they served in the beginning I the meal! Sooo GOOD!! I love carrot cake so, of course, I would love these muffins! Not too sweet!

Yelp
An absolute treat for our first night in Maui. Right in the heart of Front Street in Lahaina, Kimo's will take your breath away just with the views! With panoramic ocean views, you can soak in the Maui coastline from any angle. Depending on the tides if you're seating right along the railing you could be splashed slightly from the ocean, can't get much more ocean front than that! With a gorgeous sunset and fire torches to light up the night sky, this was a perfect romantic atmosphere to start our vacation. The Mai tai was very refreshing and heavy on the rum (which I prefer) and the Lahaina lemonade was bright and tart. Started the meal with Macadamia crusted Calamari, which gave a great crunch to the super tender squid. We then continued the meal with the Chefs's special, fresh local fish prepared with lemon cream and capers, and Parmesan crusted fresh mahi mahi. A unique thing about Kimos is their menu lists various preparations for fish and then you are provided the fish options when you arrive to ensure you are always enjoyed the freshest fish possible. It also allows you to try new seafood options you wouldn't normally get based on the season. Finally, we ended the meal with the famous Kimos signature- Hula Pie and it did not disappoint. I have had this pie recreated elsewhere but no one really does it like Kimos, with the smoothest macadamia nut ice cream I have ever tasted.

Yelp
This is the place to be. Lava flows and coconut shrimp for the win with a ocean front view. My family stopped here for appetizers and drinks in the early afternoon. The place was packed. We opted for bar seating verses a 45 minute wait for a table. Our bartender was all about business. Not very talkative. He did however made a mean Lava Flow for me that I throughly enjoyed.
google avatar

Yelp
These photos are from 2022. Kimos was a mainstay local Lahaina restaurant that we went to every year we came to Maui. We'll be returning in September of this year but we will feel the loss and love of Lahaina. May you rise again from the ashes. We will return.

Yelp
Kimo's had excellent service & great food. They sit right on the ocean. I had a burger & fries. The drinks are good as well. It is a casual setting w/a full bar. We sat upstairs. They have an area to buy merchandise too. This is a great option for lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Weiran Z.

Yelp
Food here is amazing. I love the Tristan Lobster Tail. Fresh and delicious. Burger and Fries are great. Fish in tacos is caught from ocean daily. Service is good but little slow. It located at a beach so you could see the ocean view. We saw a black crab pushed up by waves
google avatar

Cassie H.

Yelp
Beautiful setting right on the water with friendly and attentive staff. The food was delicious but my father was disappointed with the baked Kimo style. The fish and chips was delicious, but my hubs preferred the fish tacos at sister restaurant Duke's Fish House. The hula pie was a hit - we had two for our table of 7. Parking on the street is free for 3hrs but busy on the weekend... consider a small parking lot for a fee if you don't want to chance it. Also leave time to walk around Front Street to shop!
google avatar

Winston C.

Yelp
We can to Kimo's Maui for an early dinner so we didn't have much of a wait time. Come early because it does get packed. We wanted outdoor seating because we wanted a beautiful view. Eating good food in front of the ocean is quiet an experience. If you're eating outdoors be sure to bring sunglasses and a hat in case the area you're seated does not have good shade. Our waitress was wonderful and accommodating. We really enjoyed their service. I got the Kimo's Klassic Burger with a Moscow Mule. Standard burger and cocktail -- they were good. Pretty standard cheeseburger. What really won us over was the view.
google avatar

Brenda L.

Yelp
The good: I like the breezy feel in the restaurant because it's open on both sides and is beachside. The location is around a lot of shopping and other restaurants so the location is prime. I got the fish of the day (red snapper) that was served with a pesto-like sauce, a slaw and some rice. It was delicious but pretty oily/buttery. I also tried the shrimp salad and thought the size was nice and the shrimp were fresh. Our server was pleasant and smiley. The bad: Though the shrimp in the salad was fresh, the overall taste of the salad was just okay. I liked the presentation but the sauce was not zesty or interesting enough. We sat upstairs which has an older and more outdated feel. I tried my husband's burger which was also just ok. The meat was a bit too much because it was greasy and messy. Items are on the pricey side but seafood always is (especially with a beach view). I think the interior, at least the upstairs area where we were, could be spruced up a bit because it felt a little bit outdated and dingy or lacking a semi upscale feel for the price and view. The interesting: The complimentary "bread" they give out before the meal was basically carrot cake in the shape of muffins. I was confused because they were super sweet and moist cake instead of "bread" or biscuits.

Yelp
Flew into Maui. Plane was late and reservations were at 8:30. Called the restaurant and they said the kitchen closed at 9 and they'd seat us as soon as we got there. Looked up the menu on-line while heading to Kimo's. Hadn't been here for 20+ years. If anything it got better! Had the ribs and chicken and others had fish tacos and a cheeseburger. Birthday boy had filet mignon and said it was excellent. Our waitress did such a nice job. The receptionist put us on a restaurant next to the water and our order was immediately taken. Spectacular food, service and ambiance! What's not to like? Go eat at Kimo's if you're in Lahaina, Maui. The hula pie birthday cake was also so so yummy! Much Mahalo Kimo's and staff.

Yelp
Beautiful view, right on the water. Good Mai Tai and good Lava Flow drinks (both came with an umbrella and pineapple). They have fresh caught fish so the menue changes daily. Service was wonderful. We went to an early dinner and were seated right away. Not too loud which was nice so we could talk and would be good for date nights. It was not dressy although you could dress up a bit. The food was very good but the service and view are excellent.

Yelp
A spur-of-the-moment drive to Lahaina brought us to the west side without any dinner reservations. The spouse thought we could sit at the bar and eat at Lahaina Grill. That was a hilarious thought, especially during Spring break. We were also turned away at Lahaina Pizza Company. Passed by Kimo's and I thought why even bother? They took us right in! And yes, this was my first time eating here regardless of being born and raised on the rock. ATMOSPHERE: It's a 2-level eatery right on the water but being that it was nighttime, I couldn't see out. Décor is very woody and cozy, kind of a mix between the old log ride at Knott's Berry Farm and the Old Spaghetti Factory. We had a private table upstairs near the balcony overlooking Front Street. DINNER MENU: American apps, entrees and desserts. BEVERAGE: Grey Goose Cosmo - $16.50 It was either this boring unlisted menu item or an overly-sweet mango-infused recipe according to our server. Good version. FOOD: Caesar Salad - $11.00 I wouldn't suggest this as it tasted very buffet-ish with its watery dressing and mainly white stems of Romaine. Fisherman's Chowder $10.50 Came in a bowl, nice and chunky but not as creamy as I'd hoped for. Lobster Topped - $45.00 For just $9 more than their parm-crusted fish, my mahi was topped with chunks of Tristan lobster in a decadent lemon butter sauce. I love basmati rice but didn't care for it here as it was overcooked and borderline mushy. Plating looked like a FEMA disaster. ¼ lb. Tristan Lobster Tail - $25.00 (Entrée add-on) Kimo's definitely doesn't sell their food quite like Mama's Fish House does on their menu, which is where I first experienced Tristan lobster tails. The crustacean is found "off the most remote inhabited island in the world" (Tristan da Cunha) which is pretty much smack dab in the middle of the Atlantic between South America, Africa and Antarctica. The island was discovered in 1506 by Portuguese explorer Tristao da Cunha. Population is about 245 and governed by the United Kingdom. Brief history lesson aside, the lobster tails are naturally smaller in size and processed without chemicals. The taste? Good but I honestly can't tell the difference between them and lesser variants especially if they're cooked properly. Here they were tender, sweet and fresh. SERVICE: David C. was terrific! Friendly, professional and attentive. OVERALL: Mainstream cuisine, good service, tourist-infested.

Yelp
Ummm yes please after leaving here I immediately wanted to go back and try more items off their menu. The pricing is right for the ambiance and quality of food. The staff was friendly and the food came out pretty fast for how busy it was. This place will be added to my list of places I need to come back to.

Yelp
Beautiful view and great food. Only gave four stars because the beet salad was not on the lunch menu and even though we stayed till four they wouldn't let me order it at the table I had to go to take out to get one to go. Turned out to be the worst beet salad I've ever had with all arugula and some dragon fruit and pear that were not ripe this the four stars. The Kalua lettuce wraps were probably the best things I've had and I wish I had got more of them for dinner because they were so delicious although the plate lunch was pretty good as well but the rice with overcooked.

Yelp
After spending all day in Lanai, we were hungry and wanted some food that was within walking distance from our all-day parking located at the wharf cinema parking lot. This was one of the places to accept reservations. We made one for 715pm. We got there at 705 and was told it would be a 10 min wait, which is totally fine. We were seated by the deck overlooking the ocean. It's a very nice place to eat, higher end place, some tables were all dressed up. For an appetizer, I ordered their macadamia crusted calamari, and for an entree, I ordered their fresh opah, which is a Hawaiian sunfish with an extra side of coconut shrimp. The calamari was really good. Well breaded. You get a little bit of the nutty sweetness from the macadamia. Good large chunks of calamari. Cooked well. Not tough, but it does have some chew or body to it. The opah was really good!! Had a nice crust. Fish is soft and flaky. The white sauce it came in was really flavorful too and elevated the dish. A squyze of the lemon slices added the right amount of acidity to it. The rice was also really good. Not hust plain white rice. Great flavors. The carrots it came with were borderline raw. Not great. Coconut shrimp was great!! Large, cooked well. Flavorful. Our waitress was great. Friendly. Explained the specials. Went over the menu. Checked on us frequently. They were busy (Saturday night), so the food just took way too long to come out. Well over 45 minutes. Glad the appetizer came out quickly, so I wasn't too hangry. Total bill for what I ordered was $71.50. Oh and they provide complimentary bread, which is great, considering how long it took the food to come out. They also have 2 tacos for $25. Waitress stated that an additional tacos would be $2. Turned out its an additional $5. But better than the $12.50 for each of the 2 tacos. I'm sure when the sun is out or during the sunset, the views are fantastic, which adds to the atmosphere. They also have live music playing on the main floor. Price is on the expensive side, but you are paying for the location and atmosphere and being in the most touristy part of Maui, it only makes sense. Minus 1 star for the wait time though.

Yelp
Came here for drinks and apps with a friend. We didnt have a reservation and when we arrived we were told there was an hour wait for a table. We opted to sit at the bar to wait. We ordered drinks and 15mins later we were notified that a table was ready but we opted to stay at the bar. I had a vodka martini and coconut shrimp. Both were really good. I would definitely go back for the shrimp. Our bartender was also nice and attentive. I recommend this location for a date or just on a night out in Lahina.

Yelp
So the tl;dr is that this place is overrated. We tried to stop in here for food and/or drinks at least three times before we FINALLY got a seat at the bar. It kinda became a thing because the first night we were there, Kimo's had been a must-eat suggestion, so I had this NEED to actually do the thing. Now, when we finally got to belly up to that bar (forget getting a table before 8:30 PM unless you've somehow snagged a reservation) the bartenders were GREAT. Very attentive, and even gave us a little half-serving of pina colada when they had made too much. So SUPER kudos to them! (No kudos to the host[ess] who was giving the stink eye to anyone who walked in to see whether there were seats at the bar, though) That said, the drinks are really expensive, as is the food. After perusing their pretty limited menu, and knowing I needed to eat but not being super hungry, I ordered the $16 "Fire Roasted Veggie Dip" appetizer. While it was tasty, the ratio of the actually filling item (flatbread) to the still somewhat small pot of veggie dip was off, to say the least. I don't know, I'm still kinda shocked that I was told this was a "must eat" place in Lahaina. It wasn't bad thanks to the strong drinks and great bartenders, but again...overrated for sure.

Yelp
Popped in here for lunch during a vacation to Maui. Kimo's has some of the best views on the island, great waterfront dining. The teriyaki burger was delicious and plenty of local beers on tap.

Yelp
Right on the water. Good food. Excellent service. Live music. Kimo's has it all. I made reservations for 6pm, but we stopped by around 4pm to check out Aloha hour*, which they are not currently offering. Came back at 6pm and was seated upstairs. Nice view! - Mai tai: An average Mai tai. 3/5 - Kimo's klassic burger ($17.50): Cooked medium unless otherwise specified. Good quality meat. I was a bit fussy with the condiments and asked for no cheese but to add grilled onions and pickles. The kitchen denied the former request and our server said the latter here were weird and I wouldn't like them. They did, however, give me a phat slice of raw red onion. The fries were good. 3/5 - Sesame crusted ahi ($36): My bf enjoyed the this one and rated it 4/5. - Hula pie: We came here specifically for the notorious Hula pie since we missed it at Keoki's Paradise in Kauai last visit. It did not disappoint. Meant to serve 2-4, the two of us scarfed it down. So glad we finally got to see what all the hype was about. 5/5 Eric, our server, was great. He surprised me with a Hula pie slice for my birthday! Very generous! ---------- * I didn't see Aloha hours posted on their website, but saw it on a recent Yelper's review they "just missed happy hour". Please get your facts straight people. When I approached the hostess to inquire, she said pretty curtly they weren't offering it now.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service and a stunning view. Sorry this restaurant was lost in the fire. I hope they can rebuild. Sending love. We were in Lahaina one week before the fire for my brother's wedding. We quickly created some good memories at Kimo's and in Lahaina.

Yelp
Made a reservation here for 5:30 to watch the sunset and requested ocean view seating on Open Table. When we got there they said that we could wait for the next available ocean view spot and did not provide an estimate. We finally got seated and ended up upstairs in the second row with a big tree blocking our view after 25 additional minutes from my original reservation. The view was a 6/10 and the parmesan crusted fish dish was dry and did not feel worth the price. Redeeming stars went to the complimentary muffins and the hula pie was pretty good. Would not recommend unless a front row ocean view table is secured

Yelp
Pretty busy restaurant on the bustling tourist streets of Lahaina. I made reservations a month prior because I wanted that oceanfront sunset view and we still had to wait 15 min after our reservation time. When we were finally seated, the sunset had mostly passed. It was a bit of a bummer, but since it was also cloudy that day, we might not have been able to see the sunset regardless. And the views are still stunning, sunset or not. We ordered the prime rib + lobster tail (I heard that Tristan lobsters and Maui raised cattle were things I had to try) and the lobster topped fish (Mahi Mahi that day). Everything was cooked well and tasted great. The prime rib was a true medium rare, and was so tender. The Tristan lobster tail was so sweet. I enjoyed the complimentary carrot muffins as well. For drinks, I had the Lahaina Lemonade and Kimo's grog. Both were okay, but not things I would order again. The food was tasty and the place is a vibe (live singing, tiki torches, ocean views), so even though it is a little pricey, it is a Maui staple worth trying.
