Yelp
A disgrace to use the Kimpton hotel name for the absolute lack of quality, service, amenities, and couldn't have justified spending $50 a night there; let alone the $470+ per night I paid for a 3 night 3 day Mommy/Daughter long weekend trip.
I've worked in the hospitality industry for over a decade, all added up. I've worked as a bus girl, answered phones for weekend, pizza delivery orders, I've been a waitress, I've been a pool, side, bartender, I've worked golf outings, black, tie, events, sought out & hired many times for private events, in homes & venues alike.
I say this, because I greatly respect, value, and am grateful for those who are either permanent employees or temporary/seasonal. This industry of people and jobs have even gained further thanks and appreciation (expressed to each verbally & often with cash tips) since I had my daughter.
While she is extremely respectful, quiet, and almost never expressed any other emotion but kindness, excitement, and happiness when she and I go on vacations or weekend trips.
I was thrilled that for once, finally, I had a stable enough job with a good enough income to book a long weekend at the Kimpton Monaco in downtown Baltimore...between the website's listed amenities, welcome packages, on site/in-room dining options, and proximity to the harbor & aquarium, i hope this would be an amazing get away.
However, before even arriving, I spent hours on the phone with various IHG, Kimpton, and intercontinental, ambassador specific representatives, trying to get answers and specific information about my stay & other hotel specific details they all failed to be able to provide me, and lied over and over telling me after 1+ hour on a call with them, to call back later or tomorrow & that team would be able to help..... wasted half a week on hold, calls, and having to manually handle our reservation that should have taken me 5 minutes & a mere few clicks on the IHG mobile application.
The dirtiness of the hotel, horrid (and I mean horrid) attitudes of every person I spoke to (say for a few of the valet gentlemen), prohibited access to ANY amenities due to "construction" and "mechanical & electrical delays," there were no restaurants. No room service, no wellness amenities or spa services offered. In fact, the woman doing my check in laughed when I asked about scheduling something & where I could go look around the fitness center, the associate audibly laughed thinking I was joking about a spa, fitness room, and yoga/wellness amenities.
Valet seemed necessary based on conversation with local friends & even hotel staff for safety reasons, rather than risking my chances in a cheaper, unattended garage; but that was an addition $60 (x3 days). The trip was an utter disgraceful, infuriating, irrevocably expensive weekend I will NEVER EVER, I mean ever, not regret trusting my gut as soon as we got there & knew there was zero chance the website held any truths about the hotel. The lobby area by the reception desk has been nicely designed with comfortable chairs & couches, even an electric tempered glass fire place or two to draw in the idea of luxury and relaxation, but whatever you do....DO ANY ELSE BUT BOOKING OR STAYING AT THIS HOTEL. ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN OF ANY/ALL AGES.
Food from the B&O American Brasserie was pretty good & decently priced.
Thank God & my luckily stars that this was my daughters first "vacation" and "mommy & me" trip, and could be made to smile with my exaggerated excitement over the ice machine, the nice valet guys, a big mirror to make funny faces at herself & me in, and her aunt visiting us during our stay, otherwise I'd have turned around after my first interaction with the shift manager doing my check in & driven another 4+ hours back north to return home for the weekend instead.
Such disappointment
