Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel

"The 186-room Surfcomber is like the cooler, more casual little brother of the towering, traditional behemoths on the beach. The hotel hangout is relaxed with an emphasis on opportunities for socializing—there's a daily wine hour and the aptly named Social Club restaurant overlooking Collins Avenue—but it never tends toward the tacky."

Charming Boutique Hotel Just Steps from the Beach I had a wonderful stay at this charming boutique hotel! The location is unbeatable—just a short walk to the beach, which made it so convenient to enjoy the ocean any time of day. The hotel itself is beautifully maintained with a cozy, stylish vibe that feels both relaxed and refined. The room is a bit small. The staff were exceptionally professional and friendly from check-in to check-out. If you’re looking for a well-appointed spot near the beach, this hotel is a fantastic choice. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Very good stay. Rooms were clean and decent. Exceptional service, great bar staff. Little pricey with their resort fees and some food and drinks, but you get what you pay for. One of the better stays in South Beach area

The hotel's location and facilities are excellent, but although the staff were polite, the quality of service was worse than I expected. There were many shortcomings in the rooms, and despite our request for a coffee machine, They left the machine without even plugging it in. And when we turned on the coffee machine, all the water leaked out . Although we requested a quiet room, we were given one very close to the restaurant and directly across from the housekeeping room. On most nights (between 11 PM and 2 AM), vacuuming was done by staff near the reception area. I liked the cleanliness of the bed linens and the bathroom, but the rooms are old and small.

We enjoyed our stay so much! All of the staff were super helpful and friendly and the service was great. We spent two afternoons at the beach and the chair + food/bev service there was fantastic. Rooms were nice, pool and common areas indoor and out were beautiful. Highly recommend and would love to go back!

The staff were so kind, generous and friendly and always available to help. John was very helpful and always welcomed you into the hotel with a smile. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the pool area was luxurious. Definitely would recommend and stay here again.

The beachfront location is tough to beat. ||Service on the beach itself is exceptional. Five stars. Manuel, PJ, and Mike were incredibly attentive and seemed to always be around when you needed something. ||The hotel itself is a bit of a mixed bag. ||Like at the beach, the staff are absolutely wonderful. Everyone is eager to help and they all say hello as you walk by in the hallways. Check in was a breeze, and the staff at the desk are equally as wonderful as those at the beach. The lobby is nice and pool area is beautiful. ||The rooms itself I’d rate closer to two stars. The bathrooms are extremely tight. The down pillows are so worn down you may as well have nothing, even if they’re stacked multiple high. To make sleeping even more difficult, on the southern side of the property it sounds, and feels, like there’s a 18-wheeler idling outside—it must be the HVAC system or something. If it was just the sound, earplugs or playing white noise would do. But you literally feel the vibrations all night long.||As great as the staff and amenities are, the room issues could be a reason we don’t come back. Sleeping well is key to enjoying a vacation and that rumbling makes it difficult

I definitely recommend the Kimpton Surfcomber in South Beach Miami to anyone looking for a relaxing time on vacation. They have yoga classes with some of the best yoga instructors I’ve ever had. The restaurants were excellent, we hardly ever felt the need to leave the hotel. The decor was fresh & modern, the daily social hour was a lovely treat. Plenty of outdoor activities at the pool, beach, lawn area for all age groups. We really enjoyed our stay….

Google
Loved this hotel! And I have pretty high standards for hotels, especially beach hotels. Staff was wonderful, room had everything we would want, location incredible, and all the amazing amenities included in the resort fees (happy hour, bikes, pool, DJ, sunscreen, private beach, yoga…) made this one of the best value luxury hotels I’ve been to. Would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Yelp
Had a wonderful 3 night stay here. We arrived around 10am on a Friday from our cruise. We were immediately greeted and assisted with our luggage by the doormen. The front desk staff was so kind and explained that our room probably wouldn't be ready until 3pm, but they could store our luggage, allowing us to enjoy the hotel amenities and to roam the city while we waited. Luckily, They sent us a text message at 12pm notifying us that our room was ready. Laying out by the pool and at the beach was our favorite thing to do all weekend. We received superb service from all staff members at this hotel.

Yelp
I've stayed at several Kimpton hotels and this one by far was the biggest disappointment. I flew into Miami for work but it was also my partners birthday so I brought them with me so they could enjoy this beautiful city. However, the Kimpon defenitly let us down and if I would of known the experience and room I would have recieved, I defenitly would of stayed elsewhere. I've honestly stayed at Hilton and marriot hotels that are way nicer then this resort. I stayed here in March of 2024 and it's a really outdated hotel. This place defenitly needs a revamp. The resort grounds itself are very nice and the beach access is convenient. Good location in south beach. As a Platinum member, I tried checking at noon. They informed me my premium room with city view would be available soon. I waited till about 2pm and inquired again about my room, the front desk stated they couldn't get ahold of housekeeping so to wait a little more which I had no problem. By 4:20 I still hadn't been notified that my room was ready so when I checked again with the front desk, they stated that my room still wasn't ready but that they are moving me to one that was. I had no issue since I needed to get into a room fast since I had to go to a work meeting shortly. We got up to our accessible room and it was a total let down. To be paying as much as we are and get a room that's all dinged up and dirty is so disappointing. We let the front desk we are unhappy with our room and that our shower was broken and they just apologized and sent up a handy man to fix the shower. The IHG service I'm use to is defenitly not here. I highly reccomend you don't waste your money here like I did. $700 bucks I won't be getting back staying here for two nights. Really dissapointed with my stay and I just hope they can improve this resort. Not fair to their consumers/customers who are paying $300-$400 a night to stay here.

Yelp
The Kimpton Surfcomber is a intimate and service oriented small hotel on Collins Ave. Located amongst all the activity , restaurants/bars/stores, the Kimpton provides tranquility and fun before you go back out to adventure Service without attitude was everywhere as the hotel staff clearly know how to treat guests. We ate in the downstairs restaurant for breakfast once and it was very good. Pool area is beautiful with massage areas tucked away off the pool , a bar, lounging area and Yoga area. All the way at the back of the property is direct access to the beautiful beaches of Miami No doubt I would book another stay at Kimpton Surfcomber - I hope you enjoy it as much as we did

Yelp
My friend and I stayed here for the weekend earlier this December. Definitely make sure that all members of your party are on the reservation as they won't let you check in or use any of the hotel facilities like the pool or beach. I arrived a few hours before my friend, and I wanted to lie out by the pool, but the manager refused to let me check in, so I had to buy a day pass through resort pass in order to use the pool. While it was a bit of a rough start to the weekend, I really enjoyed the pool experience. Escaping the cold, New Jersey weather and lying out in the breezy yet sunny Miami weather was a dream. When my friend arrived, we headed up to the room to prepare for dinner. Our room was clean, modern, and airy. They had a mini bar with lots of good wines and lots of snacks in case you don't feel like leaving the room. You can stream your device to the smart TV as well as check out through the TV. The bathroom was small, but clean, and had everything we needed for our stay. Air-conditioning worked well and I wore the robe to even wore the robe to stay warm! The hotel has a fantastic location in South Beach. It's walking distance to Lincoln Road, a Walgreens, and lots of restaurants in little shops along Collins Avenue. We felt safe walking around, but as always, be aware of your surroundings. Inside the hotel, there's a restaurant and they have coffee, hot chocolate, and wine in the lobby at certain times in the day. The grounds are beautiful and great for strolling around. The pool and beach areas are really nice. To check into the pool, you have to make sure you're wearing your bracelet of the day and you go to the stand and pick up your towels. The staff will set it up for you and someone is usually taking food and drink orders while you enjoy yourself. Things are definitely expensive on the menu, but the quality and service is good and you get what you pay for! For the beach, it's the same. You walk up to the hut, and they set up your lounge chair for you. The ocean was beautiful and the weather was perfect so we had a really wonderful time on our beach day. They also bring food and drink to you at the beach and they can either charge your hotel room or you can pay cash. Sleep quality was pretty good. I always travel with a white noise machine as there's usually a lot of noise or unfamiliar sounds at a hotel. If I was in the area again, I wouldn't mind staying here again!

Yelp
Here is my review and the reason for the negative review of kimpton surfcomber in Miami . I'm a long time kimpton fan and a loyal IHG member - ice stayed at countless kimpton hotels around the country. I'm a paraplegic and use a wheelchair - the elevator was broken with the accessible room and i was placed in another room with a bathroom i cant fit my wheelchair in. the staff manager apologized but made no real effort in fixing the situation. I plan on letting customer service and others know this is not a good spot

Yelp
To start, when my husband and I arrived, the man at the valet station watched me remove our luggage from our Lyft with absolutely no effort or offer or effort to help. Then we arrive to our incredibly small room. It was extremely hot and humid, and the AC did not seem to be working. We waited til morning as we arrived late due to travel delays. Spoke to a staff member the next day, we were promised an engineer would fix our ac, upon returning from the beach our ac is still not working. We are told they will help. Nothing. The next day we ask again, they say again they will send and engineer. Again, nothing. It took three phone calls and us basically demanding a new room before any effort was made to move us to a room with working ac. And mind you this is south beach in July- it was HOT! When we finally do get offered a new room, 0 help was offered to move luggage upstairs. Also both rooms were Very small, and beat up. The bathrooms as VERY, VERY small with absolutely no counter or space for your things. The staff in the restaurant seemed to be annoyed every time we had to walk through the restaurant, however it was the only way to access the lobby from our room, and the only way to get to the elevator when returning to the hotel. The food is also incredibly over priced and mediocre at best. Our last night, we were made to leave the pool so the hotel could host a fashion show? The Incrediblely loud house music raged until 12 am and we had to get up at 4 to catch our flight home. When we called the desk to ask how long the loud music would go, they rudely told us midnight. We also had several instances of being woke up by very loud guests all through the hotel. The staff make absolutely no effort to accommodate any guest who is not here for a rager. Over all I would say if you want to come and party, party, party and sweat your entire face off. This place is for you. If you aren't a raging party animal. You should invest in a different location with more respect for the clientele.

Yelp
As a self-professed Kimpton junkie, I put a lot of effort into deciding which Miami-area property to stay at on a recent trip. I chose the Surfcomber for its proximity to the beach, and I think that was the best part about this property. There was very little that felt like a Kimpton to me other than seeing the various Kimpton signs throughout the property. The room itself left much to be desired. There was a THICK coat of dust on both end tables, so thick that we could not rub it off easily. The bathroom was, as everyone mentioned, tiny, and the shower was awful. It was hard to adjust the temperature in the shower, and the knob actually came off in my hand the last day. The shower also did not drain, so we had to stand in ankle-deep water every time we showered. There was sand left in it when we were done after we came back from the beach. It was just gross. The blinds did not sufficiently block out the light, so we woke up earlier than planned both nights. There was also nowhere to store anything. This came at the tail of a week-long trip in multiple locations, and I had a full-sized suitcase I had to wedge between the bed and wall. As a Diamond IHG member, I was not offered an upgrade of any sort, and the only amenity I received was "free" breakfast, which was not actually free because it only counted up to $20, which most entrees were more than, and we had to pay tax and tip separately. (Tip was automatically added.) I've never encountered this at Kimpton before, and even stayed at the Ft. Lauderdale property after and the free breakfast was truly ALL IN. The highlight, though, was the beach. It was the beach, after all. Beyond that, it was average, again not Kimpton standard. We rented an umbrella for $25 and used the two "free" beach chairs that came with the huge amenity fee charged nightly by the hotel (which felt a little or a waste as we checked in late the first night and left early the second morning). There was drink service, but it was hard to flag them down. The crew was also extremely quick to take the umbrellas down due to the first gust of wind, which I understand, but they were slower to put them up than every other property along the beach. We didn't use the pool, but it was massively crowded and had a loud DJ when we walked back from the beach. That is probably some people's thing, but this doesn't seem like the "relax and chill" properly if that's what you're looking for. The service was fine. I didn't feel like anyone went beyond the basic standards of care for us. As mentioned, no upgrades based on status were given and no one seemed too concerned when we reported how bad the shower was. Finally, the valet was absurdly slow. It took almost a half hour to get your car, and usually the pull through area in front of the hotel was packed and difficult to navigate. The first time we got our car, we actually had to walk out onto the busy street and get in that way. Not the safest method. All in all, this place only has any good feelings because of its beach location. It definitely does not live up to that Kimpton standard.

Yelp
We stayed here for a long weekend and overall enjoyed it a ton! The pool, lobby and walkway to the pool were all lovely. Our room was fine- clean and comfortable but no balcony (no rooms had a balcony) and the bathroom was small! It was our 30th Anniversary and the hotel did leave us a card and dessert plate which was thoughtful. We enjoyed the beach chairs - and the pool was perfect after time in the ocean. The morning coffee was delicious as was the evening wine. Parking was expensive but the valet guys were friendly and it is Miami. Best part of this hotel is the location - close to fantastic restaurants and the beach.

Yelp
Tropical paradise with a cool luscious vibe and free wine and snacks make life more fun and you can make some friends during this fun social hour from 5-6 pm. Rooms are delightful like the service staff.

Yelp
Had the best stay at this hotel for my bachelorette! Hotel staff was very accommodating and friendly. They also had programming such as yoga and salsa dancing at the pool which was fun. The pool was clean and not rowdy like some of the neighboring hotels & the beach had umbrellas & chairs (2 chairs per room). The beach access is just beyond the pool and you do not need to cross a roadway. I really liked the outdoor space leading to the pool - it has very lush greenery and was beautiful to walk through daily. The hotel is also very centrally located & you can walk to many of the hot spots on Miami Beach from it! Definitely stay here!

Yelp
I stayed here for a night after an overnight flight. The hotel staff were super helpful, we were able to check in early in the morning and take advantage of the pool and beach amenities. The pool service was excellent. The hotel also has an area on the beach a short walk away with complimentary chairs and towels. The location was excellent, many restaurants and shops within walking distance, a great place to stay and relax. The only downside is the noise level at night, there was music playing until quite late.

Yelp
My friend and I came to the hotel bar located poolside/beachside for their Havana Nights event. The organizer gave us two free mojitos each with RSVP, which by the way, packed quite a punch! They have a beautiful pool area which leads to a tiki bar patio and sandbar. The gate that encloses it gives way to beach access. The patio has a stage where we listened to a great Cuban band while sipping on our mojitos. It does have a contrast with the polished looking poolside area right next to it, since the tables and chairs are all bare wooden mixed in with picnic tables. The string lights they had up made it cute, like someone's backyard. They have a hammock strung up that was fun to sit in and take pictures with. We thought it would be more of a lounge type of setting and event, considering the caliber of hotel, so we were a bit surprised by the setup. It looked like the people who came out were either hotel guests or older patrons, which explained why we were immediately hit on by a table of guys when we arrived at the bar. The person who appeared to be a manager was welcoming when we checked in for the event, the bartender not so much. I don't think I saw him smile as he made the drinks and presented them to us. He may not have been very excited to be working there. Regardless of the people who work at or patronize the establishment, I saw the hotel facilities are certainly worth a return for, i.e. the pool and beach access point. I'm very much up for going back for a meal here!

Yelp
Me and my friend stayed here over the weekend for the 4th of July and it was very nice! Caroline was especially amazing and respectful.

Yelp
Alright let me get into this. I encourage those of you who are considering Kimpton Surfcomber for a stay that you read this review in total because I have a lot of points to make that should help with your decision. First, I did a lot of research before booking this hotel considering location, room amenities, resort amenities and price of course and these were the factors that won me over. Loved the location. Nestled in the heart of Collins Avenue right in the middle of a lot of action. There were tons of options for eating, drinking and having a good time. Also a short walking distance to Lincoln Road Mall if you are up for shopping and it's away from the craziness of the Ocean Drive strip. Also convenient, I LOVE LIQUOR liquor store (trust me you need this), Surf Style (convenient if like me and my friend you need cheap flip flops, souvenir magnets, sun screen and they have some really cool Miami gear) and Walgreens (for those other random incidentals). About the room(s). We had a queen double. The room was very spacious and very clean. I loved the bed. It was super comfortable. TV had my member information on the screen upon my arrival where I could view my bill, see how many points I'd earned, etc and that was a welcoming touch. However, there were definitely signs of wear and tear upon closer inspection. There was a big plastic ottoman that seemed out of place and a little tattered, a glass desk with a strange wood box attached underneath and the dresser where the fridge was located obviously had leaky track record. The tub in the bathroom had all sorts of knicks in it and the sink was all glass, bulky and got really messy when I used it. Also the way the bathroom is set up you can not get up close on the mirror. You have the toilet, the big sink and then the tub/shower all next to each other. So if you're a guy and need to shave or a girl who wants to do her makeup, the bathroom mirror is not conducive to that. Thankfully there was a full length mirror outside the bathroom and honestly at this point I just appreciate that the sink was in the bathroom because honey some of these other hotels with the sink outside in the actual room with no privacy is a deal breaker for me I don't care how close to the person I am sharing the room with. Shall we now discuss the mini bar situation. There's a mini bar and then there's a Miami Beach mini bar. I have NEVER in my life seen a hotel go to this extent to stock a room with items you will be triple charged for if you partake in them. Okay, the bar and snacks on the dresser....sure but the refrigerator was also stocked to the gills with wine, champagne, waters, beers, soda's. Even on the nightstands were additional waters. It was not until later I saw the 10.00 price tags on the bottle tops. It also took me a minute to discover the wine rack hanging on the wall with a price list attached. The cheapest of them being 75.00. This is why I LOVE LIQUOR should be your first stop. It certainly was mine and I took all of Surfcomber's stuff out of the fridge, put it in the corner and replaced it with my stuff for a fraction of the price. On our second night which was the 4th of July the air in our room stopped working. While we were out they sent someone up to check it out but by the time we resurfaced it was still not working. We were informed around midnight that it would not be able to be fixed during our stay and they wanted to move us to another room which was fine but it was late and we were drunk, tired and did not feel like packing so they gave us some fans. We moved in the morning and I discovered this room had a coffee maker. Our previous room did not. Kind of not fair. Sorry this has been a very long review so let me wrap it up by saying that while the rooms had their pros and cons the property itself is absolutely amazing!!! From the patio outside the front door (where I took my smoke breaks), the spacious lobby area, all the cozy nooks and crannies of seating arrangements, the restaurant, the bar, the meticulously landscaped covered walkway that you stroll to the pool, the private cabanas, the outdoor pool bar, the game area to the attentiveness of the staff and the overall resort feeling is why Surfcomber rates high in my book and I would stay there again. Also noted, the daily evening social hour with your choice of wines and an appetizer and the constant presence of a full, chilled water keg right at the back door where you come in from the pool area was always a welcome site because Miami is hot yall!!! The last thing worth mentioning is the incidentals hold fee they put on your bank account is hefty. On top of my regular hotel nightly charges they held 450.00 that was not returned to me until days after I got back home so keep that in mind.

Yelp
We booked an Ivy Cabana through Resort Pass for the day for a bachelorette party. It's a very cute hotel with a nice space. I will note that the service is a bit slow and the bathrooms are very soggy and wet from pool visitors. We were a group of eight and it was a bit tight so some of us sat on the floor. We also had a party right next to us. Most of us enjoyed cocktails inside a coconut. The coconut cocktails are not only delicious but super cute for any Yelp photo. They provided us with towels which was great. It wasn't a far walk from the beach either. I enjoyed the fish tacos I got and the guacamole. We all loved the fries, they felt extra fried which made them so crunchy and delicious. There is a required spending for the cabanas. We booked this after Drag Brunch at Palace Bar and it was a great transition. This was a fantastic way to spend our afternoon.

Yelp
This is a pretty hotel on the beach side of Collins. The location is very good. We were down here with the kids because my husband was attending a conference at Loew's, and he didn't register in time to get a decent hotel room at Loew's. The Surfcomber is only 2.5 blocks from Loew's, so we ended up here. We had a one bedroom suite. It faced Collins Ave, so it was a bit loud, but it was huge, over 700 sq ft, which was helpful as both my husband and I had to do some work, and we had enough space to work in one room while the kids watched tv and played in the other room. I also liked that there were 1.5 bathrooms, very convenient when there are 4 people. The room was prettily decorated. The sofa bed had a surprisingly nice mattress, so the kids were comfortable and didn't even switch to our bed, the way they do when they have to sleep on standard pull out sofa beds. Our king bed was fine, although I thought the pillows were flat and unsupportive. The main bathroom was SMALL. I know this is an old, Art Deco hotel, and older hotels often have small bathrooms, but we had a bunch of empty space in between the bathroom and the closet that they could have expanded the bathroom into. Service was fine. There is daily housekeeping, but they are a bit understaffed, so I was told that if you leave up the "do not disturb" sign for any amount of time during the day, you run the risk of not having your room cleaned at all. The elevators were small and slow, but the hotel is only 3 stories tall, so we ended up taking the stairs most of the time. The hotel pool is beautiful and heated. There was poolside service. There's also a semi-private beach, which the kids enjoyed. Adult guests need to wear armbands to use the beach or pool. Parking is hefty ($48 for overnight guests, $35-40 for day use only). If you want save money, you could park at a public lot a few blocks away. The hotel restaurant is expensive, but there are a ton of restaurants within a few blocks, so I mostly left the hotel to eat.

Yelp
Good location but unfortunately that is all. Elevator was broken, restrooms are super small, sink would clog up, rooms are very small, they don't clean rooms till every three days. Because of elevator being broken you have to carry your luggage to the first floor then walk down the hall and take a different elevator. Won't be coming back here and wouldn't recommend, great location though. 06/24/2024, now both elevators are broken. Fire alarm went off approximately 4 times in the middle of the night. This place is outdated. They also gave me a 200 credit but stated they could not apply it to my credit card, another reason not to come and be frustrated at kimpton hotels. Every time I think about kimpton hotels I will think about this experience. 07/02/2024 had to call the manager in regards to the credit of 200 dollars they gave it to me and applied it to my credit card but only because I followed up.

Yelp
Dreadful place. I would never stay here again. Tiny, dated, dingy rooms. Awful customer service. It would be one thing if the room was bad but the amenities were good. Alas no. The beach chairs are not set up and the pool is playing loud, horrible music when the maintenance folks were not using a leaf blower right next to us. Sad to feel like you're being nickel and dimes at every turn especially at $350 a night.

Neil K.

Yelp
The hotel has a great location and nice pool area / landscaping. The staff seemed really friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was great in the onsite restaurant. However, the rooms are a little tired and particularly there was some body odor protruding from the pillows. Also, there are small very sharp nails protruding from the bed frame and when I got out of bed and my foot hit the frame I was cut really bad. This has never happened to me in a hotel and needs to be addressed immediately.

Yelp
There seem to endless brunch opportunities in Miami Beach, so I'm glad we found our way here. The food was delicious, the drink choices are endless (so many juice options), the atmosphere is impeccable (the plants in Miami are thriving), and above all else- the service is stellar. Our server Alex, was helpful and on top of everything, and has mastered the art of making sure we felt tended to, without feeling smothered. It's a skill that not everyone has, and we were grateful for it. We were also checked on by another staff person (possibly a manager). We had such a good experience that we've decided to book at the Surfcomber for our next Miami trip.

Yelp
Was told it would be no problem to store my luggage for up to 2 hrs with the bell desk while I had breakfast at The Social Club. Went to drop off luggage after I checked in for breakfast and they wanted $80!! to hold the luggage while we ate. Would have paid $10 or $20 but not $80. So had to cancel breakfast, get a Lyft and to Cruise Terminal 3 hours early with no breakfast.... Surfcomber you suck!!

Yelp
Even with my Diamond Elite status and the fact they had available rooms they did not let us check in early. We arrived at 1:30 and still not allowed to check in early, was told we were put in the Queue. Not impressed, are treating us badly even though I have nearly 5,000,000 IHG points. Will definitely report to IHG. 4:09, did not get a text , as was told. Manager was an outright liar. However, bell guy was nice. Next the floor of the room is wet ????, probably gave to me because of my complaints. This is pathetic.

Yelp
Hello I recently stayed at the Surfcomber Hotel in Miami, Fl. from 6/15 - 6/19 2023. My room had mold in the ceiling and the carpet. It rained 3 of the 4 days I stayed. The ceiling leaked so bad that I had to use the trash cans to catch the water from the ceiling. The room should have been put out of service. If I had known my room would have that much water. Then I would have bought my goldfish on vacation to go swimming also. After bringing it to management attention there was no urgency to resolve the matter or compensate me for any inconvenience. I would recommend staying at this hotel.

Yelp
If you are driving to this hotel you need to be careful! If you are not going to park at the hotel overnight, do not give them parking valet any of your information! We arrived at the hotel by car and when we parked in front of the entrance to check in, the parking employee gave us a ticket to help us park, we told him that our car would not be staying at the hotel overnight and that we would return it to the rental car agency once we checked in. The parking employee said no problem, as long as we return the car and give him the ticket the hotel will not charge us anything. However, when we checked out, we found out that the hotel still charged us for overnight parking. After we told the front desk that we didn't park the car, the front desk said it's ok, she will check and refund us right away. After a week I still have not received the refund. I then called the hotel to inquire about this. The hotel again said that they charge for DAILY parking as long as you get a parking ticket!!!! Totally inconsistent with what was said before and without any clarification.

Yelp
We got a cabana. Was good. Wish they made them closer to the pool so you can have sun as well as shade and all hang out together. The waiter would disappear for long periods of time so was hard to meet the min food and beverage. But was clean and beautiful

Yelp
This hotel has become our Miami home-away-from-home. Its nice but not stuffy, the staff is aways kind, and the location is fabulous.

Yelp
So great pool and pool bar. Restaurant is a touch expensive. 1949 Art Deco hotel. The rooms are small-as is the guest bathroom. Right on Collins and backs up to the ocean. Right in the middle of Miami Beach, short walk from Lincoln Road outdoor mall and a couple more blocks from Espanola Road.

Yelp
This honestly is the first review I have ever left for a hotel stay. I feel like I need to warn others. I stayed at the Surfcomber for 4 nights and if it weren't for the fact I had pre-paid for the entire stay, I wish I could have just left and stayed elsewhere, like the Loews. Where do I even start, this property needs a major renovation. The room smelled like mold, the gym was dated and the equipment is from the 1990s, the lobby and room furniture all have scuffs, dings, stains. The carpets were dirty, there was a construction next door to our room, the walls had stains... the entire property was run down and maybe comparable to a 2- star hotel- a total 3rd world experience. I feel like some La Quinta Inns must have cleaner and nicer finishes. The location is great and the staff was mostly pleasant though, they did openly complain about fellow guests which is super unprofessional, and they forgot about at least 2 room service requests. Stay elsewhere, unless you want the beach access and can find a room here for less than $100 on Hotwire, etc.

Yelp
This review is for a stay in January 2020. So, I was here for Super Bowl weekend. A lot of the reviews here talk about the restaurant, bar, and pool. I was here for a private party at the hotel, which was great, but I didnt really use any of those facilities. This review is about the lobby, guest service, room and hotel grounds. Valet / Lobby / Guest Service: Ok, so this valet parking only, like lots of hotels in Miami Beach. during the weekend I was here, valet parking cost $46 a night + tax, which I didnt see anywhere on the hotel website. I consider it highway robbery, but I have been charged similar rates at downtown hotels. Valet is a little slow, but the hotel has them doing bell duty also. **Shout-out to Julian Kabbir Jimenez Salazar who was an excellent bellman / valet. The exterior provides a Ok, so this a smaller, older building. Miami Beach is super crowded, so lots of the hotels have tiny lobbies. This one is no different. The Room. Considering the price, (it was about $1200 a night for the 2020 Superbowl, but normally about $200), I expected a bit more. The room was smallish, especially as we got a double room. The room was nicely appointed, but the double room really was 2 double beds. Generally in America, you expect 2 Queen-sized beds or at least 2 full-sized beds. Pool area. The pool area is great, with an entrance to the beach/boardwalk. Great hang out and Instagram spot. Location. The hotel sits an easy walking distance to lots of shopping and restaurants, and the hotel even offers beach cruiser bicycles to its patrons.

Yelp
We stayed at many Kimpton properties and loved it. The over all aesthetics and furniture are modern and fresh. And the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. They're great! Unfortunate this Kimpton fell short of those expectations. The overall vibe and feel we're ruined by the construction and repairs on all the floors. It made the hotel feel industrial, crowded, and run downed. I was told there was water damage so they had to use fans probably to prevent mold and to dry it. But the fans were loud and created a lot of heat. Added to the fans were the fire alarms that was going off. Picture provided. The rooms themselves were nice but the furniture was beaten and worn. The carpet was tired and used. The bathtub should been retired. My daughter commented "the bath tub is dirty" from the stains and accumulated through the years. Plus there was ants. Big red ants. They were on the bed. On our food. My wife was bit a few times. Picture provided. The cherry on top was our food in the fridge going bad because it wasn't working or not plugged in.

Yelp
I was impressed by the overall value and facilities. The staff was fairly young and inexperienced but they worked. The rooms were mostly spacious except the bathrooms. The beds and bedsheets were luxurious. The tv and desks were passable. The restaurant was surprisingly good for a hotel affair. All in all, I'd recommend the hotel and facilities again.

Yelp
We stayed at the Kimpton for a 4day/3night stay right after Christmas. 4.5 but I'm rounding up because of the great staff.. Front Desk: Our reservation was a package deal through Booking.com and we had not check in issues. Ivanna was friendly and professional with getting us checked in. She got us set up with the hotel text messaging system: If we needed anything, just text the number and the staff took care of it immediately. We used it to request: more blankets, personal heater, and a late check out. They responded back to use immediately. Room: This is one of the older art deco hotels that line up and down south beach. The rooms were renovated well and clean. The bathroom was remodeled to a more contemporary style. The water pressure and heat were perfect. The heater didn't warm up the room as much as we wanted but not a big deal really. Flat screen was brand new and the remotes all worked Pool: The pool is well heated and they we were swimming in an outdoor pool in December. Fantastic. The staff was friendly and laid out your towels well for your lounge chairs. We kept ordering drinks and good throughout all our pool visits and they kept up. It's a nice relaxing scene at the pool here at the Kimpton The Social Club: This is the restaurant/full bar located in the lobby at the Kimpton. It's a nice option for a quick bite or drink. I'll write a separate Yelp review to give it kudos but know that we enjoyed our meals and drinks there. Location Location Location: Located on Collins avenue and the location is primo. Everything is within walking distance: Lincoln Road Mall, Espanola way, and of course the beach is right behind the hotel. SLS is their hotel neighbor if you're feeling fancy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kimpton this past trip. We would definitely consider stay here again next time we're in South Beach. Cheers!

Yelp
We recently spent four nights at the Kimpton including Christmas Eve/Christmas Day. Our room was a little on the small side, but very comfortable. The staff was polite and attentive throughout our stay. I offer a special thank you to those staff members that had to work through the holiday so my family could enjoy ours. The hotel is conveniently located near much of the strips shopping, dining and nightlife. While being in a very busy area on the outside, the inside is very quiet. The pool is a lush area with attentive wait staff. The pool was warm as was the ocean just behind the facility. There's on-site valet service which is pretty much a necessity in Miami Beach. Be prepared to be hit with an additional $50 per day to cover parking costs. Kimpton is a quality place to stay in the heart of all Miami Beach has to offer.

Yelp
Had a solid stay overall, just one night and using IHG points. It looks like cash prices vary wildly, so those higher spikes (along with the relatively high resort fee all the time) is the main downside. I really like historic hotels with character, this one was great in that respect, very emblematic of the area: architecture, lobby, decor. But historic hotels have some tradeoffs, like room size, but ours was perfectly good. Amazing location, right on the beach and a short walk to Ocean Drive. As standard for Kimpton hotels, welcoming wine hour from 5-6pm and morning coffee in the lobby. Great staff all around. We had a drink in the bar, very well made creative drinks.

Yelp
5 Star Service provided by Juan at the Front Desk! He was readily available during our entire stay and very helpful. We also had great service from Michael at the Social Club! We had a couple of breakfasts and drinks - all the f&b was delicious! Impressed by the service at this property.

Yelp
I really had high hopes for this hotel, considering it is a Kimpton hotel and I live in Los Angeles and so I am familiar with the hotels. However, this hotel was not at all what I thought it was. It is extremely old and the rooms are very very small. I was promised a quiet room with a decent view. When I checked into my room, it was not at all what I expected from the pictures online. Yes the location is ideal. It is located on South Beach close to everything and walking distance to restaurants and bars. This hotel is very old and to be honest it did not look very hygienic. Anyway, much to my discomfort. I ended up spending the night because I had no other choice and it was already 12 AM. The next day ,I was woken up at 7 AM with hammering and drilling, which seem to be right above my room. It just was not a good experience. I had originally planned to stay there for one week, but I had called Expedia and begged them to give me my money back and thank God they were able to work it out for me. I was able to get a refund for my reservation. I ended up going to the Hyatt centric down the street which was a little bit more expensive, but was also a newer hotel built in 2015. Super clean. Great location, only downside NO ROOM SERVICE! Bummer lol and the restaurant at the lobby doesn't open until 3pm. Good news restaurants on Collins and a Joe and the Juice downstairs. but oh my god what a difference it was. Anyway, not trying to hate in anyway but just a fair warning for anyone who likes clean and nice up-to-date hotels. The Surfcomber really really need to fix the hotel and update if. It is in dire need lol I wish I took some pictures but I got out of there so fast the next morning I didn't have time. Anyway, I hope this helps

Yelp
I did a day pass to kill half day before flight home. The cabana is only $100 but you need to order $200 minimum foods (before tax, service chrg and automatically added gratuity). The cabana said it can fit 4 ppl but if all 4 were inside, not big enough. With 4 ppl, we were given only 2 towels. The cabana looks lovely and the server is pretty attentive. The only downside is that there is no actual shower or changing room afterward by the pool. While at the pool, the server came around with complimentary grape skewers for all. There was also a staff in the water teaching water exercises. The walk to the beach is about 3 mins, totally amazing. The valet parking at the hotel was nice, believe it was $35.

Yelp
Only giving two stars because the people who work here are nice. Not necessarily competent, but nice. We made it here after the storm, so they had dehumidifiers everywhere. I get that. I am not complaining about that. But they initially gave us a room with a big, noisy dehumidifier outside of the room. Why? I asked for another one. I got one on the first floor that reeked of cigarettes. We told the front desk (Natasha was really nice) and they sent a guy to spray some air freshener although she initially said "air purifier." Maybe it was a language barrier. I called from the room since I noticed that there was dust everywhere (see phone and outlets in the pics plus other places) on top of the cigarette smell (and furniture peeling - no signs of a remodel here, to be clear) and the front desk person (a different one) told me to review them on TripAdvisor if I am unhappy. Odd. But I will. And on Girls Love Travel to warn people. We asked again in the morning and we were told they were going to move us, but then the guy went to the back to ask somebody and came back saying they had no rooms. We went out and when we came back, the smell seemed even stronger. The window would not open, so I went and asked again. Ivana was nice and efficient and said she was going to move us to the other tower. The tower we are were in had major work done because of the storm. Well, she moved us right away, but in the same tower. I don't know what to say. Other than the yoga class with Mia, nothing really is pleasant. Also, the pool area is pretty dirty. Chairs and tables. The waitress or the person picking up stuff did not speak English and when we asked her to wipe the little table in between the lounge chairs, she switched it with the one next to us, which did not make any sense. It was still dirty. But, again, she seemed nice. Kimtpton, this hotel makes your brand look really bad (and I stayed at other Kimpton hotels before). If it's a management issue, fix it. Too bad I booked so many nights here. Just trying to have a nice birthday week.

Yelp
Hotel has been responsive to my complaint about loud music the previous nights and has shut off the speaker outside my room.

Yelp
Pros: First of all the location is great, and close to everything! Lots of great restaurants outside which is nice. They also offer a wine social hour. Pool area is very nice. Room was overall clean. Cons: The rooms are very tiny and so is the bathroom, I would not advise more than two adults staying in one of these rooms. The bathrooms need to be renovated, the tubs are peeling they are so old and the mirrors in the bathroom were chipped. Plus the fan did not work in our bathroom. Also, there is a hotel right next to this one that literally blasts music from 7 am until - 8 pm. You can hear it allllll day in the room as the windows are not the best. Overall, this stay wasn't bad, but improvements could be made to make this place better.

Yelp
What an amazing, relaxing place. We can't wait to go back. Looking for a stay staycation then this is the place. Service amazing! Food amazing . So much fun. Clean and peaceful. Pet/companion friendly. Their motto is if you can fit it in the door it can stay. Lol love it. Since this stay we've stayed at a few more Kimptons here in Florida and they are all as amazing. Yes, I used amazing an amazing amount of times, but this place is just that.

Yelp
Don't come here unless you want a room made in the 1940s. Maybe you want a broken shower? Then this is your spot. Maybe you want a 150$ deposit everyday for the water in your room? Then come on down to Kimpton surfcomber hotel in Miami. Tried to just hangout in the room and watch sports but there also isn't any cable in our room.

Yelp
Loved our stay here. THE FOOD AT THIS HOTEL IS PHENOMENAL! Everything that we ordered, from either High Tide or Social Club was DELICIOUS and great portions. We barely wanted to venture out because the food was THAT GOOD! Very impressed! Drinks were also great. The hotel and pool area are simply beautiful, and the pool is just a few steps away from the beach. I see complaints on here about the size of the room and service charges. The rooms are smaller, yes, but our time was spent outside of our rooms. I thought they were just fine! Service charge - if you plan to go to a hotel and get waited on, served drinks, etc. you should expect to tip these workers. Gratuity is added to every bill, which I think made things EASIER. These workers were all so lovely and worked so hard to get us what we needed. Please stop complaining about gratuity being added. You should be tipping staff wherever you go anyways.:) Would come back to this hotel. I miss it already :)
