The 34 Best Hotels in Barcelona

"A sultry hideaway among the bustle that is the Gothic Quarter, the Kimpton Vividora is five minutes’ walk from the city’s main Gothic cathedral (not to be confused with la Sagrada Família) in one direction, and the thronging Las Ramblas in the other; among the winding historic alleys and buzzy boulevards of downtown Barcelona. This urban sanctuary doesn’t scrimp on rooftop chill-out scene, inviting you to taste the buzz of the city without ever leaving. Accommodation is divided into Guestrooms and Suites, and what sets them apart is the outside space you get. The upper tiers of the Guestroom category offer small Juliet-style balconies, but the Suites go big on terraces—and it’s worth it. My Executive Suite had a wraparound corner terrace that ticked off views of the W hotel, the cathedral, Torre Agbar and the top of La Sagrada Familia. But you also get a fascinating snapshot of raw Barcelona life, stealing glances into people’s terraces and the pretty—and gritty—reality of that." - Gemma Askham, Isabelle Kliger

Rooftops and Radical Hotel Designs in Barcelona

Kimpton Vividora Hotel, an IHG Hotel

"In short: Worth it? Why? A nest of calm—and a very stylish one, at that—among the bustle that is the Gothic Quarter. You’re five minutes’ walk from Barcelona cathedral, even less to the thronging Las Ramblas; among the winding historic alleys and buzzy boulevards, the newly opened Kimpton Vividora is an urban sanctuary that doesn’t scrimp on rooftop chill-out scene.Set the scene: Why did the hotel catch your attention? You never know what to expect in the Gothic Quarter, such is the random nature of these streets, where hipster vintage shops rub shoulders with craft stalls, skateboarders, cannabis dealers, and about 15 branches of Zara. So, to see the Kimpton Vividora stand rather majestically down one of them—marked by huge tropical plants, an aroma of its trademark perfume, and a palette of peachy terracotta stonework—was a surprise. A really good surprise. What's the backstory? The Kimpton Vividora is part of the IHG Group, which spans InterContinental Hotels, Six Senses, and Crowne Plaza (among others), but—to its credit—you’d honestly never know it was part of chain. The Vividora is the Kimpton brand’s first foray into Spain, and its “hola” has been done with panache and individuality. There are some really attentive design details, such as patterned tiles on the elevator floors. How are the rooms? Accommodation is divided into Guestrooms and Suites, and what sets them apart is the outside space you get. The upper tiers of the Guestroom category offer small Juliet-style balconies, but the Suites go big on terraces—and it’s worth it. My Executive Suite had a wraparound corner terrace that ticked off views of the W hotel, the cathedral, Torre Agbar and the top of La Sagrada Familia. But you also get a fascinating snapshot of raw Barcelona life, stealing glances into people’s terraces and the pretty—and gritty—reality of that. Back inside the room, it does all the right things with design. The color palette has location-perfect sunset shades: tan leathers, a mustard chair, ochre bathrobes and 50 shades of clay. It feels expensive, and it smells expensive. An unexpected plus: a gigantic bathtub, beer by local microbrewery Ocean Beer, as well as sachets of sun cream in case you forgot it. Food and drink: What's on offer? Casa de Vivi is Kimpton Vividora’s complete food and drinks experience. Designed to feel like being at a friend’s house, it starts on the ground floor, in Bar Got, with great cocktails and complimentary wine from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. every day—a smart, welcoming touch. From there, move up one floor for dinner at Fauna Mediterranean restaurant before taking the elevator – and the experience – up to the next level at Terraza de Vivi—the seventh-floor rooftop bar. You don’t so much come for the food as the experience: panoramic views, comfy seating in Instagrammable fabrics and, at the weekends, DJs, as well as brunches with limitless mimosas. You know the crowd.\ Any other hotel features worth noting? The standout feature is the rooftop pool. A matchbox of a thing, really, but it’s as photogenic as the people posing on giant beanbags beside it. There’s also a small gym, and complimentary bikes and skateboards. Over the sunny months (which can span until October in Barcelona), there are free sunrise yoga classes twice a week on the roof terrace. What about the neighborhood? Choosing to stay in the Gothic Quarter doesn’t just put you close to the action, it almost slaps you around the face with city’s densest offering of shops, bars, and full-on street life. It’s not for everyone, and ordinarily I would stay in a quieter ‘hood, such as Eixample. But the Kimpton Vividora is a marvel in that it physically puts you in that world, then calmly removes you—offering you a cocoon of a bed, rooftop cava, and some impressive sound-proofing. I could be a convert. How is the service? Checking in is initially confusing as reception isn’t on the ground level, but one floor up. Once that’s worked out and you have someone’s attention, service is a strong point—grill them for every local tip you’ve ever wanted. The level of English spoken is top-notch. What's on offer for sustainability? A couple of green wins in the rooms: water in cardboard packaging, vegan, cruelty-free bathroom amenities and a recycling bin. The majority of food and drinks served in the hotel are locally sourced from the Barcelona region. Anything else we should know? The Vividora is completely pet-friendly, to the point that they only have one policy: your animal has to fit in the elevator. Since its opening in 2019, that means there’s been over 300 pets. One week before my visit, two parrots checked in." - Gemma Askham

"A contemporary 156-room hotel introduced to the Gothic Quarter in 2020, this property pairs modern interiors with distinct Catalan touches—colorful geometric ceramic tiles and local artwork—and room palettes that reference the mountains and the sea with earthy terra-cotta and cool blues. The rooftop terrace attracts both guests and locals with great views of the Barcelona Cathedral and a daily brunch offering bottomless mimosas and Bloody Marys. The hotel also stages a popular evening Social Hour with complimentary local wine and vermouth and provides perks such as free bike and skateboard rentals." - Jennifer Ceaser

This was a charming boutique hotel with an excellent location in the Gothic Quarter. The room was comfortable, well appointed, and roomy. The hospitality staff made sure we always had fresh bottles of water, maintained our coffee and tea, and left chocolates every day. There was a wine Happy Hour every day. There are many other features in the hotel which we did not have a chance to take advantage of. The staff was top notch. They couldn’t be more helpful and all the doormen were warm, friendly and went out of their way to assist you. All in all it was a great stay.

Absolutely fantastic stay. Loved it from the start to the end, it was a shame I had to return to fly back to London due to work or I would have extended my stay| The staff were brilliant and welcomed me. Anything I needed they were there. The beds were soo comfy, so we're the pillows and I loved the rainshower. I would. The rooftop pool and the food on the terrace restaurant was brilliant. I loved the views from the rooftop seeing the whole of Barcelona. The breakfast was amazing too, have the choice of a la carte or buffet. I will definitely return this hotel and would highly recommend to anyone coming to Barcelona as the location is so central to everything and walking distance to the beach.

Everything about this hotel was amazing. The check-in team made you feel like royalty. The rooms were so comfortable and there was so many extras provided to us. After a long day, it was nice to come home to a sweet treat and a bottle of wine waiting for us complements of the hotel. The breakfast buffet was fabulous. The rooftop bar and restaurant were also very good and that is the best views of Barcelona by far. We had the best time

The second leg of he Europe tour after the Sun Princess Mediterranean cruise. |Checked into the Kimpton Vividora hotel, down a little alleyway in the heart of the central hub of Barca.|An early morning checking and the rooms were not ready and we know all about being a hotelier, however the team of concierge were very helpful. Front desk, the girls in the restaurant for dinner & breakfast were great. Service was excellent all the way thru. Although its small hotel, roof top pool & bar, Gym and the location a minute walk from the famous La Rambla street, location of the hotel was great. Rooms come with a small Juliet balcony to side street and comfortable, Water wine & beer on arrival and plenty of shopping and cafes surrounded the block. We enjoyed our stay and as well doing the touristic stuff all cramped into the few days and must see in Barca.

Fabulous hotel! Super convenient location in the Gothic! Gorgeous rooftop views! The lounge is the perfect spot to relax after a long day of sightseeing at the complimentary social hour. Comfy bed, attentive, friendly staff and lovely toiletries provided all made for a perfect stay.

Google
Gorgeous boutique hotel with a few minor cons. Pros: -Spa services offered were fantastic! Sara (?) was fantastic and such a warm presence. -Super cool rooftop—great views! -Fantastic breakfast buffet included in your reservation -Friendly staff -Great central location! Cons: -The rooftop staff can seem a little inattentive on the rooftop, but they are super friendly…I was glad they were having fun! But the vibe might not be to everyone’s taste. -I had the worst burger I ever had (go figure…I had just had a lot of wine and wanted something more substantial 😅) on the rooftop, and I probably should have said something but I was very tired. -The pool is small and shallow, mainly meant for sitting and sunbathing. Can’t beat the views though! I had a lovely experience overall, no place has everything but this checked almost all the boxes!

The most amazing evening. The staff were extremely attentive (a special mention to Sonia who couldn’t have been more happy to help with photos, drinks, snacks. Nothing was too much for her even when we did talk her ear off a bit. A genuine lovely girl.) and the cocktails were lovely. The view from the terrace was stunning my partner surprised me with an evening on the terrace with a sunset view and a look over Barcelona and many landmarks. I would 100% recommend but definitely book ahead for the best views 😍

Amazing Experience! We have been in a lot of hotels with our Labrador/ Shepherd Mix Oskar but never we had experienced a welcome like this. Every single person in this hotel is loving dogs! You are welcome everywhere in the hotel with the dog. We spend a great night there. The rooftop bar is amazing with a fantastic view over Barcelona! 100% Recommendation

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay at the Kimpton Vividora in Barcelona, Spain. This is a must stay hotel if you want a boutique hotel experience. Not only was the hotel staff welcoming but the accommodations were clean and up to date while also being centrally located in the Gothic Quarter. We inquired about a private tour guide and we were pleased with the easy to understand process as well as the fact that the guide was flexible with her availability to suit our needs. We initially requested an early morning appointment but our hotel contact explained that some places didn't open for complimentary access until 10am. That was a great tip cause we were able to view many behind the scenes locations with the private guide. The rooftop bar has an amazing view and both meals and drinks are available for order. Call in advance to reserve your preferred table, easy reservation process especially for hotel guests.

Yelp
We are big Kimpton fans. We stay at them whenever we can, so we were excited to get an experience with one abroad. Just as with the others, we had a wonderful experience here with really only one complaint. The check-in staff was fantastic, welcoming, and informative. The kind lady took her time to share her favorites and go-to spots in Barcelona, most of which we did and enjoyed. We did get an upgrade as a Diamond member, though I was hoping for a little higher of an upgrade since there was a better room still available during our stay. Nonetheless, the room was nice and had a balcony; rooms in Europe are generally smaller, so we weren't totally thrown off by that, but I imagine the base rooms here are a bit tiny. Ours was fine though. I loved the shower and the toiletries provided were excellent. We also had a bottle of wine with some cheese in our room upon arrival, which was a wonderful and very kind touch! Other than that, the typical (but great) Kimpton experience was solid - we enjoyed the social hour each night and it had pretty solid wine with a fantastic assortment of nuts; I'm not sure what they were, but they were so incredibly good. Note that the social hour is at 6:30-7:30pm, given everything food-wise (particularly dinner) is much later in Barcelona and Spain in general. We also used the bikes, and that was a pretty easy process as well, which worked out well given how convenient it is to bike around the city. Check out the roof top as well; we didn't spend too much time up there since it was still chilly in Barcelona when we were there in late March, but the views are beautiful! There is also a pool up there that overlooks the city as well. That complaint I mentioned? I got the vibe and sense that the gentlemen manning the door and welcoming guests weren't fans of gay guys. I found most to be quite rude throughout our entire stay. That's odd to say for Europe, but that's my guess. If not because of that, then they were just rude in general and probably not who I would want welcoming guests to my hotel. Other than that, great experience for the hotel side of things!

Yelp
This review is for my stay between 10/19/23 - 10/23/23. Booked this hotel using my IHG points in which I was able to book 3 nights and get 1 additional night free. This hotel is in a prime location in the Gothic Quarter. Like many hotels it has a nondescript entrance. You could be walking on the road/walkstreet for the hotel entrance and not know the hotel was there until you were literally in front of the hotel. The front of the hotel is like a storefront. Checkin desk is on the second floor. The first floor is their lounge where they also offer a daily social hour (5 pm - 6:30 pm, I believe). Checkin was a breeze and staff was very friendly and welcoming. She said, based on my IHG status, that I received an upgraded room. Room was small which is normal for the area but it was well laid out. Bed was comfy. Problems I had with the room were the shower kept leaking water to the bathroom floor. Shower mat was soaked if I took a long shower. The TV offered 2 - 3 channels that were in English. There was no subtitle option to watch the complimentary movie channels. I even inquired and staff came to my room to confirm. Management provided a free pay movie when I inquired. Social hour provided select complimentary alcoholic beverages like wine, local draft beer (not craft), and cava. Mixed drinks were not complimentary. They have a pool on the top floor which is very nice with incredible views. I did not see a hot tub or jacuzzi. There is no gym at this hotel but they have a relationship with Holmes Place (gym) around a half mile away. There is no cost to use that gym but you need to get a voucher and complete forms at the hotel desk. An interesting amenity of this hotel is complimentary bicycle and skateboard use. I did not partake of any of their dining except for the complimentary hors d'oeuvres offered during social hour. The octopus rice I had was very good. Overall, my experience was favorable and I would consider this hotel again. Service: 5 Ambiance: 4 Value: 5 (IHG deal)

Yelp
Absolutely the best choice for our one night stay in Barcelona!! We were able to shop in Las Ramblas and to check out the market (that was only 3 blocks away). Everything was perfect--the room was stylish and trendy with a comfortable King bed. We were able to enjoy complimentary Cava and snacks from 6:30-7:30 at the Happy Hour. The view from the top floor was spectacular, and we hope to come back in warmer weather to enjoy the rooftop pool. The staff was friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here when we return to Barcelona!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona! From check-in to the quality of the room, towels, patio, roof top bar and pool, everything was on point. And the customer service was top notch! Big shout out to Juan at reception and Eduardo, our steward. We will be back!

Yelp
This new Kimpton property was amazing. Unfortunately we got caught up in Covid19 shutdown and had to leave early. While waiting for our departure date the staff went 110% to take care of us. In particular at the front desk, Tatiana and Elias were amazing. The bartender Grégoire made some truly exceptional libations. The restaurant staff, Tatiana and Sheima took exceptional care. Lastly, Enrique was our concierge extraordinaire who helped with our general needs while imparting wisdom beyond his years. Because of the staff, the Vividora will be our go-to hotel in BCN.

Yelp
I've stayed at many 5 star hotels in the past and I have to say the Kimpton Vividora has been the most delightful. It is an example unfettered hospitality. Huge shout out to Jordi for constantly going above and beyond to make my stay so pleasant. Likewise the staff including Lara, Enrique, Jessica, and others were incredible. The team helped me book tickets, make restaurant reservations, shared treats with me, walked me to my bus, and so much more. Every day at the Kimpton was a delight thanks to the team. The property is brand new, has a lovely rooftop and great spaces to work in with very fast wifi. The gym was cosy but it had everything you needed to get a great workout in. I really liked the central location especially if this is your first time in Barce, everything you'd want to experience is within walking distance. Overall, highly recommend!
