Best Classic Restaurants in Fort Worth | Eater Dallas

"Thought by many to be one of the best burgers in all of DFW, Kincaid’s has been open since 1946. The menu is simple, but has something for everyone, including classic burgers with crispy fries; the Cowtown deluxe burger with pimento cheese, grilled jalapeños, and onions; or a simple grilled chicken sandwich. There’s something about the nostalgic vibe and the satisfying burgers that make Kincaid’s an essential part of Fort Worth’s dining scene. Vibe check: There are no frills here, on the burgers or in the atmosphere. It is part market, with half-empty shelves, and part hamburger joint in the back where the meat counter used to be. But they’re damn good burgers." - Michael Ellington

The Best Restaurants in Fort Worth | Eater Dallas

"Kincaid’s Hamburgers has been serving burgers since 1946 — it’s a classic. It has often been touted as one of the few essential burger spots in all of DFW, not just Fort Worth. It is known for the handmade patties and simple, no-frills approach to burgers across its five locations in town. At the original Camp Bowie location, one can be transformed to a past era of American dining immediately upon stepping through the door." - Michael Ellington

The atmosphere was laid back. I had never been to Kincades before. The customer service was friendly, welcoming and great. The food was the biggest surprise. IBig portions., good flavor. We spent around $30 for a couple of giant burgers and nice size fries. It was worth it.

Google
I have been by here many times yet never stopped in. Today I gave it a shot, even after hearing very mediocre personal reviews. The decor is very old-school and simple. The choice of green for the walls is interesting but bland. Those walls are decorated with ‘vintage’ product advertisements that provide a little something to peruse. The layout is a giant, undivided room with long, long tables covered in picnic red and white checker plastic. The menu is simple and done in an old style as well. Point of note is that absolutely everything is a la carte. One interesting thing is the person taking the oder wrote directly upside down on a paper sack (see pics) with pre-filled menu options. Unique touch. They do have some old faves such as Frito Pie, chili, chicken bowls, hot and corn dogs, BLT, and grilled cheese. I do have to say, you have to respect them for selling my absolute favorite Blue Bell brand ice cream! I went with the Texas Firecracker (includes bacon, jalapeño cream cheese, and habanero honey) and crinkle fries. I was wary of the cream cheese but interested in what kind of kick the habanero brings. My hunger level wasn’t high, so I went with the Jr size (1/4 lb). See the pictures, yep this thing is tiny. The cream cheese is indeed messy and a little overdone and the habanero didn’t really elevate any kind of heat. The crinkle fries, unfortunately were right out of a frozen sack and did not come with any seasoning of any kind. This combo barely satiated my admittedly meager appetite. The music playing is an eclectic blend of classic old country, I mean Bob Wills and Keith Whitley type stuff. While I won’t say that I disliked anything because it was palatable, this place brings nothing of interest and, man is it expensive for what you get. My tiny cheeseburger, crinkle fries, and water was just under $14. I didn’t even add anything to the burger, think about a soda, shake or dessert and it was this much. There are far too many other enticing places to visit for taste and you will probably spend less. Turns out my friends were right.

Google
Classic hamburger joint. The dining room is furnished with long communal picnic tables. The hamburgers are very good.

Google
It was my first time trying this place got the bacon cheeseburger and the onion rings and banna pudding for dessert. everything was outstanding. Some of the best onion rings i ever had highly recommended

Google
A great place to eat if you love old fashioned hamburgers as much as I do. Great prices, too! I ate there for the first time yesterday, but it definitely won't be my last. Highly recommend.

Google
Starting coming here about 5 years ago, great joint. Everything on the menu is good, but I’d personally recommend the Cheeseburger with the Fried Okra! Lots of tables, service is prompt and simple. Very clean! Highly recommend for any dining occasion.

Google
We had the half pound burgers with fries and onion rings. Everything was delicious and generous portions. It was a good value for the money.

Yelp
I've been to the original location and now this location and the burgers are delicious. They are fresh with fresh ingredients and vegetables. It's one of my favorite places to get a burger. I also enjoy the onion rings and two people can share one side order of those. They don't cheat you out of the onions for sure. The service is always pretty quick and it's got a nice nostalgic feel to the restaurant even though it's a newer location. They serve Coca Cola products too.

Yelp
The food was great! I was very pleased. We got the corny dogs, French fries, onion rings, and the cowtown burger. Everything was hot and fresh. It's really hard to get good onion rings these days and these were really great. Drinks were good. First place in Texas that I've had "sweet" sweet tea! Thank you, Kincaid's! We will return! Ambiance is giving country kitchen- super super clean. The floor looked like you could eat on it. You wouldn't try that at McDonalds! Food is cooked to order so expect to wait. No frills, just good food.

Yelp
We finally went to Kincaid's Hamburgers This place is always on the list of "best burgers in Fort Worth", so we were excited to try it! Hubby and I each got their signature burgers-- Cowtown Deluxe - my favorite Mayo, Bacon, Pimento Cheese, Grilled Jals & Onions Cattleman Burger - hubby's favorite Cheddar Cheese, BBQ Sauce, Onion Rings & Pickles Kids got cheeseburgers. We also tried the fries, onion rings, stuffed jalapeños, and fried okra. The burgers were a LOT smaller than is advertised on the photos. It's sort of one of those "what I ordered vs what I got" situations. The flavors were great. (But it wasn't better than our current favorite burger places M&O Station Grill and Rodeo Goat Fort Worth) Would probably come back if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to go here.

Yelp
Kincaid's is always a good choice when it comes to burgers! You're going to get a classic burger and fry and it's going to taste nothing short of what you would expect! Everything is made after you order so it will be fresh. They have lots of greats side options - the onion rings are HUGE and yummy! They also have a great selection of sweets - I would recommend the banana pudding and a milkshake! ALWAYS get a milkshake! I tried the Cookie Monster milkshake and it was so delicious!

Rosalie V.

Yelp
My husband loves this place. It is very home town seating where everyone can sit at know each other. Has a good choice of food and friendly staff. The restaurant has ice cream and banana pudding (my favorite). We enjoy the place dining in or take out

Kimberly G.

Yelp
Great burger & onion rings!! Service was top notch. So friendly!! Love their milkshakes too!

Danyel C.

Yelp
Casual open seating restaurant with huge burgers with less seasoning and flavor than most of my family prefer. The burgers were pretty wet maybe from the lettuce and tomato things got soggy. The burgers were huge and they weren't stingy on the fries. The service was nice and met our needs. Not sure if They would visit again because of the lack of flavor. I heard the shakes are good and I don't doubt that because they use Blue Bell ice cream.
google avatar

Drew B.

Yelp
So the burgers and shakes are good for sure. This time though we asked for only one burger with cheese and all of them had cheese. Prices are pretty high, and the service is decent, ambiance is fine. I would just expect an established restaurant to be able to get our order right. Since this time we had it for take out and not dine in, we didn't discover the issue until we got home. It also took a long time to make our order, so NOT "fast food" to be sure. Not awful, but not great. If you do eat here, please check your order before you leave!
google avatar

Reek B.

Yelp
Might be some of the best burger beating to my stomach I've ever experienced. I shouted "Reeeeeek!" As the burger entered me. I knew I was complete. The cheese savored in my mouth. I am whole.

Yelp
Possibly my new favorite burger in town! I ordered a jr. hamburger, a junior cheeseburger, an order of crinkle cut fries, an order of onion rings (complimentary side of ranch included), and a soft drink. The grand total? $20.50 (not including a $5 tip) Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and mustard are the standard "fixins" for the burgers I chose. I made no alterations, but a person does have the choice to nix any of these toppings. The burger was so flavorful and juicy without being greasy or dripping all over the place. The crinkle cut fries were delish and crisp! The onion rings were actually a little spicy with a crunchy type of coating. I do prefer beer battered onion rings opposed to the ones served here. I have to say, though, that the onions were sliced just right (not too thick or thin). And when bit into, the entire strand of onion didn't slip out of its coating, as it happens a lot of times at other restaurants/eateries. Anything served hot is cooked to order. They have nostalgic items for sale like deviled eggs (a rare find!) and pimento cheese that are premade, as they should be. They also have shakes available using Blue Bell Ice Cream. Protocol for ordering here whether dining in or taking to go is to order & pay at the counter. Then you pick up your food once your name is called. Seating is communal with lots of long picnic tables that take up most of the dining area. There are some gaps in between some of these tables that I'm assuming is to accommodate those in wheelchairs or highchairs. They also have 5 picnic tables that seat only two alongside one of the walls (perfect for dates or diners wanting to eat solo), and another 5 picnic tables that seat four lining in front of the large windows (ideal for small families). Whatever the reason, they're both a nice option if communal tables just aren't your thing. This was my first time here and I ordered to-go, so I don't know if you're expected to clean your area once you're done eating. I'm guessing you are, but can't say for sure. Whether you're supposed to or not, I must say the restaurant was super clean! Even though this is sort of "self service" type of establishment, please don't forget to add something to the tip jar!

Yelp
So first time I've been to Kincaids. Went to the Alliance area across from the new HEB, hope I got the right location here. Walking in, underwhelmed. It was mid-afternoon about 2:30 pm and 2 other tables occupied. A big room, painted light green/lime, not a lot of atmosphere, lined with very long tables and benches. The floor was a bit dirty and has seen a lot of shoes for sure. The soda area especially just seemed worn out, one of the Coke machines was missing a large cover. Lots of hand written pieces of paper taped to the ordering area, which I don't like, it looks tacky and cheap, put it on a proper sign. It just had an old, run-down look, def. could use updating/cleaning/painting , they could do it without losing their "1950's vibe" which I guess is what they are going for. The Burger was ok. It did not taste like it was fresh made most probably a frozen patty. Not a lot of flavor, not very thick, nothing special honestly. Hatcreek and 5 guys are far better. The Hot dog was better, also in a toasted bun (good!) but kind of lost in there, it was not very big. I like when the dog is bigger than the bun and sticking out each side, you know. Crinkle fries were ok, definitely frozen.

Yelp
I think this is the best Kincaids I've been to. They are fast and get your order correct. The food comes out fresh and perfect!

Yelp
First time trying the place had the bacon cheeseburger and the onion rings the burger was outstanding and the onion rings where some of best I ever had banna pudding was very good service was awesome highly recommended

Yelp
The Cowtown burger and onion rings are extremely good. As someone who doesn't really like onion rings I loved these. Super crispy and flavorful. I loved that nothing felt greasy. The inside is like a picnic set up. Very cute.
google avatar

Paul N.

Yelp
I like the vibe and the food was good, just not great tasting. I'm not really a fan of going through lines at restaurants.
google avatar

Sam R.

Yelp
Decent burger, slightly on the greasy side. Great Onion Rings . Service was adequate. Cost around $18 for burger, onion rings and a drink.

Yelp
Always a great experience when we visit any Kincaid's hamburgers . Always fresh and tasty

Yelp
Good, classic burgers and crinkle fries. No frills, good family atmosphere. Picnic seating is cute

Yelp
The Food was Hot and Fresh !!!! Just as I ordered it !!!! The staff was friendly and curtious... It was busy time and tables were clean and available... Great place to take family ...

Yelp
Burgers was just okay to me. Lots of flavor but super messy. My burger fell apart when I tried to pick it up so had to eat it with a fork. I ordered the cowtown which had jalapeños and grilled onions. Don't really care for the pimento cheese either. But I must admit their onion rings are pretty tasty. Crunchy and flavorful. Plenty of seatings inside with some sticky tables. Just have to wipe it down with some antibacterial wipes. I don't think I'd go out of my way just to get a burger from here though.

Madison K.

Yelp
Absolutely my favorite burger joint ever, this was my late grandfather's favorite place and it brings back amazing memories

Will H.

Yelp
Haven't been to Kincaid's in a while, but it did not disappoint. Food was delicious and filling. Service was friendly and quick. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed. My children and wife enjoyed it as well!
google avatar

Michelle J.

Yelp
I was craving a chili cheese dog so I headed to Kincaid's. This one is located in a busy shopping center in the Alliance area. If you go there as a first timer I'll let you know now that the counter person is going to yell your name when it's time to go up to get your order. The chili on the chili cheese dog was magnificent. I requested mustard and onions on it. Kincaid's was quite generous with the onions. They barely put any mustard, not enough to even taste. Next time I will order extra mustard to see how that goes. For my drink I ordered a strawberry shake. Their shakes only come in one size. My shake was good but I honestly prefer thicker milkshakes but the cup size was just right for me. And Kincaid's is a super casual set up. All the seating is picnic tables. I will definitely dine here again.

Yelp
We were craving a burger and wanted to try something new to the both of us. I've lived around this area for years and always pass by Kincaids but never stopped to try it out until recently. The interior is very nice and spacious. Since it was our first time there, we were looking at the menu trying to decide what we wanted to order. The girl at the register kept her eyes on us so we felt a little rushed. When she took our order she talked to us like we were dumb. So that was the first con but we got over it and just wanted to enjoy our food. We ordered two meals, both large bacon cheeseburgers because we thought the jr was supposed to be a really small burger but we actually preferred the jr! (Ordered it our second visit.) I ordered onion rings as my side and my husband ordered fried okra. We also ordered fries and banana pudding. Burgers - pretty good but patty needs some seasoning Onion rings - perfection! Best onion rings I've had and they are huge Okra - lightly battered and nicely seasoned. Hubby approves (he is an okra fanatic lol) Fries - pretty good Banana pudding - 10/10 this came as a surprised because I've been craving banana pudding and had a hard time finding a decent one. You won't be disappointed! Overall I'm glad we decided to try it out!

Rachel R.

Yelp
This was my first time eating at this Kincaid's location. The manager was so kind to reserve a large table for our family (20+ people) on a busy Friday night. Hubby and I ordered burgers (The Cowtown and The Cattleman) and we split fries and onion rings. I loved the toppings on the Cowtown Deluxe but my burger was very overcooked. I'm glad I got a 1/4 pound burger and not the 1/2 pound.
google avatar

Hugh H.

Yelp
A cheeseburger that is better than the fast good options. The crinkle fries are tasty too.
google avatar

Shana A.

Yelp
Wow...this was soooo good! First time diner. Had bacon cheeseburger, onion rings and banana pudding. The burger was phenomenal. The onion rings were just perfect. You could see the black pepper flakes in the crunchy coating and they were so good. The service was very friendly. i would highly recommend and will definitely be back.
google avatar

Don R.

Yelp
It's been a while, so my son and I decided to go back to Kincaid's recently. I selected the Cowtown Deluxe and he chose The Cattleman. The Cowtown Deluxe is Mayo, Grilled Onions, Grilled Jalapenos, Bacon and Pimento Cheese. Overall, it was good, but the Jalapenos are very spicy and the Pimento Cheese overwhelms the other flavors. Both of us really liked The Cattleman, which includes Cheddar Cheese, BBQ Sauce, Onion Rings and Pickles. The Sauce is good and the crunch of the Onion Rings really steps it up! We would both get that one again. If there's any drawback to Kincaid's Burgers overall, it's that the beef lacks any grill flavor. It tastes very lean, but just tastes like unseasoned Ground Beef. Fresh and Lean, but really needs some seasoning if it's not going to be grilled. Good - but there are a lot of good Burgers in DFW, so I have to give it a 3 star against it's competition.
google avatar

Scott C.

Yelp
Ft Worth legend. The Cowtown Deluxe is the way to go. Best burger in the Metroplex. Onion rings so good you'll want to slap your mama.
google avatar

Allison K.

Yelp
I don't get the chance to go to Kincaid's very often since they don't have a location close to me, but I'm always so happy when we have the good fortune to stop at one. Their burgers are so tasty and well seasoned; they come standard with all the fixings, but I love their chili so much I have to get my burger with just chili and cheese so I don't miss any of the flavor from the beanless Texas style chili! I'm never disappointed with their fries and onion rings either. They have the absolute best fries around - crinkle cut - always crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. Perfection! They also have shakes made with Blue Bell ice cream...the only way to make shakes in Texas! So good!! There's a reason they gave been in business since the 40's! My only complaint...they don't have a location in Burleson!
google avatar

Lynne C.

Yelp
Popped in for some hamburgers cause we were in the area and had heard great things. I ordered a half pound cheeseburger with crinkle fries and my husband got the quarter pound hamburger. We unfortunately live 15 min or so away and ran across to the Kroger's to grab some quick groceries (main reason we were out) so all of our food was cold by the time we got home and were able to eat it. All in all though, the burgers were pretty good sized for the price and the fries were solid & delicious. Patty was juicy and not over/under cooked. Happy with our meal!
google avatar

Bill W.

Yelp
The secret weapon here is the vanilla shake. On of the best I've every had. Not the artificial vanilla tasting garbage everywhere else seems to have. Onion rings fine though very peppery. I felt pepper in my throat afterwards. And the cheeseburger, which I was sent to taste because I was told that both President Bush were addicted to these in Dallas: it's very good, but didn't rock my world. It's fresh tasting, and I understand the ingredients are healthier than other places; thankfully it doesn't "taste healthy" if you get my drift. I think I would give Burger Fi the edge over this one. The service there did rock my world. The employees were all jumping on the task to keep that significant line of customers moving fast. Employee Marrian is rocking in every regard. March 2022, the early days of Democratic spending inflation theft: 1/2 pound Cheeseburger 7.40 Onion Rings 3.75 Vanilla Shake 3.49 tax 1.21 total 15.85
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
Nice folks. Clean restaurant. I got the Cowtown Delux. At $10, I am expecting a good burger. Homemade pimento cheese, grilled onions and jalapenos, and bacon. The jalapenos were pickled, which took a lot away from the burger. But the rest was really good. The beef is advertised as fresh, never frozen. The onions and lettuce are fresh cut. The pimento cheese was really the star of the burger. The cheese made it memorable. And the bacon was thin and crispy, the way I like it on a burger. Overall, strong burger. But next time, I would hold the jalapenos. Fresh grilled jalapenos would have helped make this even better.
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
Thankfully they were not busy, which they easily can get. The kid was suffering post-extra-long-school-day starvation, so major burger and fries were in order. We aren't in here often because it's not too near and stuffed in the core of the Alliance Town Center obstacle course. But, today it was a quick get in, get served, get fed, and get lost. Maghty fahn eatin'!
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
I haven't been to the Southlake in Cades once about a year ago, I found an opportunity to go twice in the last two weeks, and it's been awesome. This is a must try family owned burger joint.

Andrew T.

Yelp
Nothing more to say than everyone else. Great food served quickly. The deviled eggs are delicious.
google avatar

Joyce C.

Yelp
This was our first visit to this location. A bit disappointing compared to the SL location. First, pulling the sandwiches and onion rings out of the bag the wrapping on the sandwiches was covered with grease and gunk. Not at all appetizing. Looked thrown together and it was after the lunch rush, around 2 so it wasn't busy. When opened, the burgers were fine but messy. Then to the onion rings, which are normally a favorite of my husband, were cold and flimsy. Not crisp rings like you would expect. To the point they didn't get eaten. He went back and got fries, which were hot and much better. Really the best part of this visit. Not sure if it's the location or just an off day, but much improvement can be made.

Samuel P.

Yelp
Food good Service great Ambiance. ... people having fun on a Saturday night. Can't go wrong with that.
google avatar

Frances H.

Yelp
Delicious!! The good was great, the service was very helpful and the atmosphere top notch! Will definitely return!!

Texas D.

Yelp
This is my favorite burger in all of DFW. And yet I don't know what to describe. They taste like burgers used to taste years ago, I'm not sure what's different but usually when I say that the answer is lard so maybe it's lard. The shakes are excellent too. But... you have to get the fried pies. These are classic turnovers. I don't know if they're made in house or not but they're fresh and amazing.

Erika K.

Yelp
Delicious burgers! Always excellent service and a great environment! Always a go to when we're craving burgers, they're big in size and the sides are also pretty big.
google avatar

Syd G.

Yelp
OMG!!! How did I miss this amazing burger place over the last year? Right down the street from me and we went here on a whim. It is just a burger place but so much more than that. We had a late lunch so not crowded at all. We had the whole family so tried several things. The employees behind the counter were very outgoing and helpful. Especially since it was our first time. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and my better half the cowtown. Now....let me say when I took the first bite of that burger I was in heaven!! Nothing better Han a real charbroiled burger that has that little burn on the outside the burger. The taste was beyond what I could describe! I wanted to savor every bite. Her burger the cowtown comes with grilled onions and jalapeños. She raved about it. I also had the onion rings and will never order anything but those in the future. Simply amazing! I've found an amazing burger place close to home and the real deal!
google avatar

Sabine F.

Yelp
I am not much of a burger person but Kincaid's Cowtown deluxe burger was amazing. It says that it is hot because of the jalapeños but it wasn't. I also ate the onion rings, which were delicious. The onion rings came with Kincaid's homemade ranch. This is also a must try while visiting. The restaurant is family owned and has 6 locations in Fort Worth. They have no stores outside Fort Worth.

M H.

Yelp
Love this place!!!! The burgers are great and so is the onion rings! Try it if you are ever in Grapevine.
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious! Had a cheeseburger with homemade onion rings. The burger was a 1/2 griddle cooked work of art. The beef was fresh and it had that great griddle crust! The onion rings are some of the best I've ever had. If your in the area and craving a great burger, i highly recommended Kincaid's !!!
google avatar

Eric W.

Yelp
We were actually heading to a local "burrito place", but when my friend spied Kincaid's the craving for a burger overcame the craving for a burrito. All I can say is it was a very good, very juicy burger. I would definitely say burger of choice, and I would highly recommend going "Cowtown Style" (grilled onions and jalapeños). Only quibble would be on the fries. I guess the emphasis is on the burger, but the frozen (?) crinkle-cut fries just did not do it for me. I would have much preferred a fresh-cut skin-on fry. Overall still a good experience.
google avatar

Brandi L.

Yelp
Well I won't be getting burgers here anymore. If I am going to pay over $6.00 for a cheeseburger I expect it to not have a soggy bun ,and at least have some more onions. The onions on this burger was a joke . The soggy bun killed it for me Had to just eat the party .Also I got this to go . So I didn't realize it was like this until I got home .
google avatar

Robert W.

Yelp
One of my previous favorite burger spots, this location has become increasingly problematic. Burgers are tasteless, bacon usually stale and fries overcooked (see pic). Gonna start eating at Burger and Philly shack or drive to Camp Bowie or Hoghlands.

Peter P.

Yelp
Girl that took our order never put it in. Our order was left on the counter for over 30min. It was a fairly busy day so we didn't think much of it. I finally went to the counter and asked about my order and thats when the manager came out and asked. Manager never gave a apology and said they'd get it right out to us. Should of just given them the benefit of the doubt and asked for a refund but thats where it went downhill. Food finally came out and 2 orders were wrong, we ordered 2 kids burgers plain with cheese. One came without cheese, the other had onions and grilled jalapeños, seriously! The other burgers literally disintegrated in your hands when trying to eat them. This used to be a good spot to get a burger. Please do yourself a favor and go enjoy a burger at the other much better establishments in the area. This place is not it.
