I treated myself to a little Mother's Day lunch today. I started with the crab Rangoon which was crispy and a perfectly golden color. My main dish was the Sweet & sour duck. I love duck! The skin was crispy and the sauce wasn't over powering and it didn't make the duck soggy. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service polite.

Their service is super inefficient. I saw plenty of available tables, yet the server still made me wait, saying there were four parties ahead of me. After seating those four larger groups, he finally led me to a two-seat table that had been empty since I arrived. There were only two dining servers, so I had to flag one down to place my order. Additionally, finding a close parking spot outside was a bit challenging. I ordered the Sweet & Sour Crispy Duck and Halo-Halo ice cream. Both were really good, especially the ice cream—not too sweet and just $4 for two scoops.

A friend introduced me to this place and Ive gone back multiple times since. Really great yellow curry with thick potatoes. Great lunch option.

This is a restaurant with a 30 year history of traditional Thai food in St. Louis, but unfortunately that history does not translate in this newer space. It is a stark, modern, space playing indie rock in the background. I’d love to see more of the history of this family brought out in the decor and menu. The food presentation was lovely, but the taste itself was just ok. My dish very bland and the salad was served with too much dressing. I did order the King Veggie dish with mild so that could be on me. I would be willing to try the restaurant again and order something different. My husband ordered the Spicy Pad Kapow with medium spice which did have a lot more flavor than mine and of course more spice. This is more of a fast casual restaurant. I had always heard rave reviews for the location on South Grand but I never had the chance to visit that location. My assumption has always been that the previous location was one of our cities classic Asian restaurants and again that just doesn’t translate here.

Google
New location, same stellar food. Menu is much more condensed and cocktails are gone. Ordered yellow curry with chicken, the 3 kings of Thailand, and mango sticky rice for dessert. Definitely one of the best meals you can have in st. Louis. Everything was perfection. Yellow curry was creamy and I could drink it with a spoon. 3 kings left nothing to be desired. Mango sticky rice was new to me and it was warm and the mango was so good, fresh and perfectly ripe. We also had coconut ice cream which paired well with the sticky rice. Thank you King and I for never disappointing, I was concerned the new modern atmosphere meant less food quality, soooooo not the case. While I do miss the atmosphere of the old location, this location is fine. Seating is a bit uncomfortable. We did note that the medium spice level wasn't as spicy as it used to be, so they are definitely catering to a more American palette.

Google
Went with a group of friends. The server was attentive. The atmosphere is kind of dull compared to when it was on South Grand Ave. The cocktail choices were very limited. The Crab Rangoon was delicious. The Chicken Sate did not look appetizing, nor flavorful. The Crispy Spring Rolls were alright. I ordered the Three Kings of Thailand. It was delicious, except it did not come to the table temperature hot. The spice level was perfect. I would go there again, if only in the area, but would ask for my food to be temperature hot.

I whole heartedly wanted to like this place. The green curry dish I ordered was good in flavor but more yellowish than green than expected. The downside was the noodles. I ordered pad see ew noodles and the noodles were so wet, soggy, they disintegrated when I tried to pick them up. It was like eating watery noodles without the soup. It may have been a bad day, but I unfortunately may not be coming back anytime soon. Everything else was superb! (Service and atmosphere)

The tamarind shrimp is really good. Food is good generally! The service could be friendlier. Will come back!

Yelp
I hopped here after finding out that they moved, the new place is furnished very well and the restrooms are clean. Staff was moving and welcoming. I had a normal experience here, like any other restaurant. I do like Thai food and the spots I go to are good, and this restaurant is no exception. Wide variety of food on the menu in my opinion, decent food, a little salty but it didn't ruin my night. Dessert was also tasty, the halo halo was awesome. It was nice to try, but I wouldn't go here again. Great place though.

Yelp
The spicy fried rice was delicious! I got it medium spicy, and it was the perfect amount of spice. The servings were huge! Service was quick for how busy it was. We had a little wait but nothing too crazy for a Friday night. It was clean and very open in there. Will definitely be back to try more!

Yelp
I know a lot of people talk about the old King and I but I never had it so this is my first impression and I thought it was pretty good! We got the platter and 4 of us ate of it and still had some food left over. Everything was really good to us. Well one thing I didn't care for on the platter was the baked chicken things. The service was mediocre. It was a slow lunch time with us and like two other parties of one and two but we still didn't get water filled or anything. But loves the look of the inside. Very spacious. I'll come back.

Yelp
I grew up loving the King & I on Grand Ave. When I heard they are moving to this new location, I was very excited and shared the news to everyone. I finally got a chance to stop in while visiting from out of town. Sadly, this is nowhere like the old King & I. The menu is limited and all items are pricey. The serving size is very small. Unlike shareable family style at the old King & I. To add protein to your dish, it is an additional $3. Small portions and overpriced will stop me from revisiting. We were the only table there. And service was super slow. Will not be returning.

Yelp
Located in Richmond Heights, St. Louis, Missouri, the King & I Thai Restaurant offers authentic, rich & spicy flavors of Thai cuisine. I got the Seafood Hot Pot, which was spicy, both fiery and addictive. Mr. Suchin Prapaisilp, the owner of King & I, came to the United States in 1970. He brings a wealth of experience and passion to Thai cuisine. He started his love for food while selling his mother's food from a cart to miners in Thailand. He learned the importance of quality ingredients, exceptional customer service, and hard work from a young age. In 1983, the King & I began and has been a loved restaurant ever since. I miss them on South Grand. Congrats on the growth to a larger spot.

Yelp
Best thai in town. I love the yellow curry and pad thai so much. Great take out and even better service when you dine in.

Yelp
Although I miss the old location, this one is just as nice and the food was just as good. Went here with my husband on a Saturday night. Although there was a wait, it went pretty quickly. I ordered a Thai iced tea and we split crab Rangoon, spicy kee mao noodles and 3 kings of Thailand. We ordered them extra spicy and they def had a kick. Service overall was fine, nothing really to note. Food came out quickly and hot! Server was polite, but didn't really check in on us. Restaurant was clean and tables were spaced out well. Parking was fine, no big issues or struggles!

Yelp
Came here to check out the new location and was not disappointed by the food nor the service. They offer indoor and outdoor dining. Still waiting for a liquor license, so currently not serving alcohol. The only dessert they had was ice cream: mango or halo. Prices are comparable to other restaurants. The new avg. price for a main dish seems to be $15. Spiciness levels: mild, medium, hot and Thai hot. I went with the hot and it's got some kick to it, good level if you enjoy spicy foods. Papaya salad $12 - Good flavors, papaya was a little hard to chew but would definitely order again. King Veggie $15 - Comes with rice, loaded with veggies and simple tasty sauce. Veggies include broccoli, cabbage, carrots, green beans, bean sprouts and zucchini. It was missing mushrooms that were mentioned in the menu. Spicy Kee Mao Noodles with Shrimp $19 - Buttery noodles, good flavors but not like your typical drunken noodle. The sauce was sweet and tomato-y. .|\---/| | o_o | .\_^_/..2023

Yelp
We had a good time at the new King & I location! We do miss the old location and vibe but the new one is very open, bright, and clean. I just wish there was more space like the old one had. The food was pretty much the same as the old location and tastes really good. The only one we tried that we thought was a bit different was the papaya salad. Overall, really good food and service. Big parking lot available for parking. They close midday after lunch for a break before opening again for dinner so plan accordingly

Yelp
Very nice and modern vibe with open kitchen. We waited for almost 20 minutes for the waitress to take our order even though it wasn't busy. However, food came out very quick. We were disappointed at the food here. The seafood hotpot was way too sweet to our liking and seafood was over cooked. Other appetizers were decent.

Yelp
Food and service. Ambiance is slightly elevated fast food, which is fine, but I do miss the old King & I on South Grand! We used to live near the S Grand location (30+) years ago and went there often.
google avatar

Yelp
I tried the new location of King & I and found that the food I tried had the same great flavor as in the previous city location. I found that the menu was more limited but they still had my favorite the yellow curry. While the ambiance is very strip mall feeling, it was clean and setup nicely. It did not have the same vibe as the city location. The service was efficient but we were there for lunch and not a lot of people were there. The server did forget to bring our salads (she remembered after we had started eating our entree). Overall if you are looking for good Thai, this is still the place to go. But I really wish they would have stayed in the city.

Yelp
Not sure if this place changed ownership, but it's not worth wasting your time on. The food was average, service was below average that being there might've been 10 people in the whole restaurant and overall I'd never go back.

Yelp
The King and I has changed their business model since moving to their new location. They've changed from an upscale atmosphere to a casual dining atmosphere and from an extensive menu to a scaled down smaller menu. We ordered the fried pot stickers and crab rangoon for appetizers and they were both "average". Some of the menu items ordered were the mango salmon, the 3 kings of thailand, the spicy basil (pad kapow) and one of their noodle dishes. As far as beverages we ordered their thai ice tea and their thai ice coffee which were both delicious. The service was great so no complaints there but the food was just okay. One complaint about the mango salmon is that the salmon was fried too hard and came out dry and overly crispy. The spicy basil was good and the 3 kings of thailand was underwhelming. Prior to their move to a new location, menu downsizing and change in recipes or ingredients (I'm assuming) the King and I was probably by many, looked at, as the standard when it came to Saint Louis thai cuisine. They've seemed to have lost what made them "special" prior to the new location and simply need to get back to doing what made the King and I a beloved St. Louis thai cuisine gem.

Yelp
Ordered takeout for the first time and service was quick! We enjoyed the Pad Thai, Hawaiian Fried Rice, Crab Rangoon and Egg Rolls. I would not order the chicken again. I expected a different flavor or fusion but it's just plain wings with dipping sauce. I haven't been to their old location so can't compare unlike some reviews here.

Yelp
I used to frequent the Grand location and my last few times there weren't great, but we decided to check out the new location and it was pretty good. It's nice that parking is relatively easy, but drivers are a little crazy there so just be careful! We tried to call ahead of time to see how long a wait was, but no one answered so we were surprised when we got there and despite there being a few people in line there were also a few tables open. The line moved relatively quickly. I liked that you can see into the kitchen and that the menu is smaller - made it a bit easier to choose. I got a chicken paid thai, my friend got red curry with shrimp, and my husband got the red curry duck. Everything came out relatively quickly, the staff was nice, and the food was great. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
I tried King & I for lunch one day as it's close to my work and I hadn't visited since they left Grand. I decided to try their pad see ew. I used to get their spicy basil or panang curry when they were on Grand which were always okay. I asked for some spice with the pad see ew but it was just sweet with no real other flavor to it. The noodles were quite broken as well. I'm likely not rushing back to eat there again for lunch.

Yelp
My recent visit to King and I Thai restaurant's new location in Richmond Heights was a delightful experience. The layout of the restaurant is inviting and comfortable. The service we received was exceptionally friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The portions here are quite generous, which is a pleasant surprise, and the quality of the food is excellent. The flavors in every dish we tried were rich and well-balanced. I must say, the 3 way King specialty dish and the noodles with the special house sauce were absolute standouts and left our taste buds wanting more. The menu offers a wide variety of options, and I'm already looking forward to returning to sample more of their delicious offerings. If you're a fan of Thai cuisine, King and I is definitely a place worth visiting for a satisfying and flavorful dining experience.

Yelp
If you liked this place when it was on the south side, don't expect it to be the same. I was so disappointed. The service was so rude and slow, but probably because they only had one girl working the floor. It took 20 minutes for her to show up and ask "you know what you want?" from 5 feet away. The menu has been cut down so much (they don't even have fresh spring rolls?!), so obviously we know what we want babe, it took 3 minutes to read that menu and decide. The prices are crazy stupid, you're going to be paying $20 a person for burnt, greasy food that'll make you nauseous and give you the sh*ts. You can't make my meal without a protein, but they still charge extra. And why are you hiding the protein charges on the bottom of the menu on the next page? We spent the whooooole time listening to the table next to us complain about the overcooked, mushy noodles. Such great ambiance. Our server only ever showed up again to collect payment. I told her the food was bad and just to let the cooks know. She said "yeah it can be heavy on the sauce. that'll be $48 tho." The manager said "This is how we always make it." But y'all had no problem changing the pricing, location, menu, and service? That's not a good excuse and it's definitely not taking responsibility for your food being too disgusting to eat. And it also sounds like there are no plans to work on the quality. If you want properly cooked food, go to Pad Thai in south county off Tesson. It's worth the drive just because they charge half the price and it'll actually be edible. Or just go literally anywhere else, because... ew.

Yelp
I came here on a week night for a quick bite to eat. The service was fast. The food came out in less than 10 minutes. The environment is simple but nice. The food was very tasty. I'll definitely be coming back
google avatar

Bella B.

Yelp
Great new location. Food menu is much smaller than the previous restaurant. The food is good. The crab Rangoon & shrimp tamarind were really yummy. The service was very nice. Was not too crowded walking in for lunch on a weekday.

J A.

Yelp
Overall had a good late evening meal here with family on Thanksgiving weekend. Service was friendly, attentive and efficient. Keep in mind there are very limited vegan options here due to their use of fish sauce in most recipes so definitely confirm by ordering. Based on information provided only the (1) spicy Mango Tofu, (2) Laap Tofu and (3) Pad Thai are vegan. Unfortunately neither soup can be made Vegan. I had the Spicy Mango Tofu while flavorful was not particularly spicy and would have been better with soft steamed or stir fried tofu versus fried tofu. New location is convenient with ample parking and easy access off Hanley Rd
google avatar

Andrew F.

Yelp
After going to the old location on grand many times, I finally made it to the new location off Hanley. It's very nice inside and the host sat us instantly, however the waitress took forever to come by, never once came back to check on the table, had to ask the host twice for something, never got any refills or silverware, and had to ask another waiter if he could get the check because it took so long. Definitely will not be rushing back here.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
We got takeout from here. It was quick and hot. Good chicken Pad Thai and green curry with fried tofu. Convenient to highway 40 and Clayton.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
Fast friendly service. The food is delicious and does a great job representing the Thai cuisine I craved. The goyza was perfect. So good and super filling. The soups are fabulous and the shrimp appetizer was flavorful but not spicey. It hit the spot that I needed when I ordered

Meredith R.

Yelp
Edit: the day after, we both had digestive issues. My mom says she has a "steel safe" of a gut, and we both had problems this morning. I had heard great things about the other location from people I trust, so I was excited to try this place. It was unfortunately aggressively mediocre. Ordered the chicken satay, pad see ew, and Tom yum soup. The chicken satay was bland. The pad see ew was flavorless, clearly used dried noodles, not fresh, and they were rice stick noodles instead of the nice thick ones. Almost no veg, mostly just strips of chicken and some bland broccoli. The Tom yum soup was just spicy broth with big, unwieldy chunks of chicken in it. We were hungry and couldn't finish either. The ambiance is also not great - sterile and there was a huge line of delivery drivers waiting to pick up orders. Wouldn't come again, sadly.
google avatar

Adrian L.

Yelp
Pretty good. Could eat it 3 nights per week. I just wish they were on UberEats or something of the sort. They have a beautiful takeout window but the parking lot is too small and the traffic at the intersection there is a nightmare at dinner time during the week.
google avatar

Kathleen S.

Yelp
I am devastated to learn first hand that the food is NOT THE SAME. The pad thai at the old location was the best in the city, and unfortunately is it now the worst. My husband and I ordered take out last night and got the yellow curry which was cold, the tom kha soup which was missing mushroom's and the pad thai was just noodles in a lack luster fish sauce. Where is the tangy sauce from before? To say we are disappointed is an understatement. I hope that they can read this feedback and take action to provide food the way it use to be made. What happened?!

Judi G.

Yelp
The food didn't taste fresh and the menu has changed and has new selections. It is very limited.
google avatar

Gary D.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere; clean surroundings. Waiters very pleasant and helpful. The food was exceptional; great portion size.

Leah B.

Yelp
Food was great-solely writing on the service. My friends & I went here for a Galentine's day dinner (there were 5 of us total) and after waiting 20-30 minutes just to get the bill, we were NOT told that 20% gratuity was already included...which usually only happens if there are 6+ people in your party. So all of us ended up tipping on top of the included gratuity which was roughly 40-50% for subpar service. We had to hunt down the waitress for water refills and the place wasn't even crowded. Also, my friend just asked for a little bit of some spicy sauce (on the side) for her fried rice. The waitress said she couldn't do that and instead brought peanut sauce to our table. My friend didn't even use/like it and got charged $5. I would not dine in here again-save yourself some money & patience and order take-out only.
google avatar

M G.

Yelp
We arrived as they open the doors, there were a lot of people showing up at opening time. Within 5 minutes the place was packed. We ordered dumplings and crab Rangoon, both hot and delicious. There were 4 of us and we all ordered something different and all 4 dishes were so good! The new location is really scaled down, as is the menu but the service and food were excellent!

Greg B.

Yelp
The wife and I recently went here at their new location. We both tried the Three Kings of Thailand. The food was very good and tasty. We will be going back to try other dishes. The service was good, not great. There was one person who functioned as the maître d' and also the server. There was a few people their but you could tell he was stressed. There were three people standing around in the food pickup area but they were way too busy talking to be any help to him. I think they have their staffing lopsided. Again food was good, service ok. Also just a note they don't have fresh spring rolls! Everything is fried.

Kurtis S.

Yelp
We definitely miss them being on Grand, and even with the menu changes we still love King and I. The curry salmon is amazing. I also love the seafood hot pot. We always get the vegetarian spring rolls and the fried tofu and Pad Thai for the kids.
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
Tried for the first time in their new location for carry out. Very organized with a carry out window separated to the side. The food is spicy when they say it is. Had spicy vegetable rice. Would absolutely have that again.
google avatar

Phil E.

Yelp
Was excited for the new location as the old place on Grand was my favorite Thai restaurant for 18 years; it had the great atmosphere and extensive menu. Hearing they are focusing on ease of carry out orders makes sense as I don't feel a reason to eat on site anymore. The new place looks generically Asian as they threw up some bamboo sticks on the wall and ceiling; all the dark teak woods and deep red colors they had in the old location are nowhere to be seen. Aside from the loss of atmosphere the Menu has been pared down to maybe 1/10 of what it used to be. 3 curries choices remain- red, green and yellow. 3 noodle dishes only (the King & I special noodles is no more), Pad Ped is gone and forget their desserts. Our hostess was also our server and I attribute the acceptable service to our being there at 8 pm after most of the dinner crowd had left. We had the Papaya Salad, the Yum Beef and the Four Kings of Thailand all of which were delicious as expected although the Prices have gone up by around 30%. Considering everything, King & I is now a basic strip mall Asian restaurant with no feeling of history or way to stand out. The restaurant I held so dearly since my late 20's is not this place. I don't recognize the menu anymore. I'll get their takeout once in a while if I feel like paying the prices but with Mai Lee Vietnamese and Joy Luck Szechuan both with HUGE menu choices, I feel they're at a disadvantage now. I wish the new King & I in this new iteration well.

Sophie B.

Yelp
Overcooked noodles, terrible food and service - we were told our food would be out in 15 minutes and it took close to an hour. Would never go back to the restaurant

Orion 0.

Yelp
New location menu has drastically raised prices and reduced menu option. King and I used to be my favorite. Time to movevon

Riri B.

Yelp
Tamarind shrimp appetizer was amazing - 5/5 The pad Thai was terrible, I'm sorry to say, I was very excited to order it, but was probably the worst I've ever had. Mushy with too much sauce, too sweet, and had to ask for lime slices and pepper flakes. No lime for $16?! - 1/5 Tablemate got mango tofu dish that was generally tasty but was too salty, tofu was over fried, and hard to find any mango. Was pretty and fresh looking, unlike pad Thai - 2.5/5 Was excited to see this restaurant close to home but reluctant to go back,

Jennifer C.

Yelp
This is my favorite Thai in St Louis! I especially love the King Veggie with extra tofu. It's packed with veg, the sauce is flavorful without being heavy, and they make the perfect firm tofu. I also recommend the mango sticky rice for dessert if it's available!

Jingwen W.

Yelp
The taste isn't local, too sweet, even though I chose something spicy, it was stills taste sweet.
google avatar

Kimberly S.

Yelp
What a huge disappointment! 3 of us went with high expectations. Crab Rangoon were barely filled and almost burnt as were the spring rolls. They had no spicy mustard. We had to ask for soy sauce and they brought us a container with 1/4" of sauce in it. It was lunch time and they didn't even refill the soy sauce. The noodles in our dishes were overcooked and gummy. The server was not attentive and the restaurant wasn't that busy. The third dish we ordered wasn't even warm. We were excited to have this new restaurant in our neighborhood but none of us will be back.

Mickey C.

Yelp
It was not a good experience. The service was okay.My friend ordered the duck and it was so dry. It looked as if it had been heated several times or over cooked. It felt more like a fast food restaurant and not comfortable. I can't imagine any circumstance that I would go back.

Lynn M.

Yelp
This place is delicious. The quality hasn't changed at all since they moved. It's so much easier for carry out orders.

Dave W.

Yelp
Unfortunately not the same as the old location. Smaller menu, higher prices, no atmosphere anymore. Also no fresh spring rolls! Just a shell of the old place.

Paul B.

Yelp
Food was very bland. The chicken wings were very small and overcooked. Pad Thai's had very little meat and did not taste Thai

Janelle A.

Yelp
Amazing food, great flavor. Fast service and everyone was very satisfied. Spectacular portions. lots of options for addition or deletion for the picky people in your life.

Yelp
Our experience here was PAINFUL to say the least. The speed of service and lack of attention was nearly unbearable. As someone that has worked in the industry for 10 years, I have immense patience and understanding things aren't always perfect but dining here, everything lacked. Getting a round of water to ordering a drink that the waitress had no knowledge of their offering or the wines we were requesting, mind you, the assortment is very minimal, we were constantly pointing out and correcting. It took about 30 minutes just to wrangle the waitress again and put in an appetizer order. Appetizers came and went and we sat for another 40 minutes with empty glasses and plates trying to wave down the attention of any staff to put in our order. After nearly an hour our order was placed but not without difficulties. We requested sauces with our meals that were listed on the menu but told none of them we could actually order without ordering the meal or appetizer it was associated with. Finally we landed on peanut sauce could be on the side and ordered. Not until the electronic/ tablet style bill was presented we learned it was $5! You would've thought we ordered a bulk size peanut sauce. Finally with empty plates and empty water glasses, again, we flagged down the waitress to pay and because we weren't presented with print outs or physical checks (only tablet style that the waitress called out our amounts due) nor were we warned about a gratuity on 5 guests, we all tipped 20% or more (because even with less than subpar service we respect the industry workers & their efforts) my friend elected for an email receipt where she Finally noticed 20% gratuity was added to our checks, talk about frustrating. Net net, what took 2.5 hrs to Dine, could've and should've been an hour and our patience was tested the entire time in what was a primarily 50% or less amount capacity for the restaurant. I'd say maybe take out is the move here but frankly, It would take a whole lot for me to ever visit here again. Such a let down.

Kate G.

Yelp
Food was absolutely delicious. Fresh tasting and spiced just right. We picked up our order
