It is a trendy and immaculate restaurant in a top-tier hotel serving Southern-style cuisine. We visited the restaurant a while ago for a weekend brunch and were impressed by the freshly cooked food made with premium ingredients. The food tasted amazing, and the service was outstanding. We plan to revisit this restaurant to indulge in its delicious brunch menu the next time we are in the area.

Yesterday we stopped by for breakfast at King and Rye! We were in the area and it caught our eye and I’m so glad we went in because the food was good! I had the Virginia Breakfast which came with 2 eggs, crispy red potatoes, thick cut bacon and sour dough toast. My boyfriend had the Buttermilk Pancakes with Bown Butter apples, Diplomat Cream and Maple Syrup with a side of ham. The food was good and fresh, I’d definitely love to stop by again and try more items on the menu! The service was also good, the staff was friendly and attentive. I love the aesthetic too of the place, it’s reminiscent of a whiskey bar but more modern and a little upscale. This restaurant is nextdoor and connected to The Alexandrian Hotel. There isn’t parking onsite but there is street parking available around the area which can be tricky to find when Old town is busy.

Overall a nice visit. I would go back and try something else. Service was definitely top notch. I liked the cocktails and Fried Green Tomatoes quite a bit. They did a great job with the tomatoes. I like the shrimp and grits, but would probably try everything else before I came back to it. For breakfast I had the chicken and biscuit with cream gravy. I was hungry so I ate it but it was completely underwhelming. I did like the coffee and the waiter kept my mug topped up which I very much appreciated.

Came to brunch after church. Got there around 1pm. The cast iron cinnamon roll and breakfast were already sold out. Went with the short rib Pimento cheese sandwich. Overall, I have a good experience, I would like to try something else if I go back.

What I ordered: K&R Old Fashioned I have not yet eaten here and even though most of my reviews are about food, I have to say that this place has the best Old Fashioned in all of DC. I've ordered Old Fashioned drinks in multiple fancy pancy places in DC, Arlington, and Alexandria. One of my favorites is the Hamilton Loft Bar. But King and Rye definitely takes the lead. I don't know how they do it but it must be the Basil Hayden's Bourbon and the freaking delicious Luxardo brand maraschino cherries they put in. Each time I ask for a couple extras on the side. So stop by and give it a try. Tell them Marcos sent you.

My sister and I came for brunch and had a wonderful time. She has a food allergy so its important to find the right restaurant. The cinnamon roll, buttermilk pancakes, deviled eggs and shrimp and grits were delicious. Great food. Excellent service. Cozy atmosphere. Will definitely go back!

Google
Started the dinner off with a cocktail called "Summer Sippin," aka "Up to Snow Good". It was amazing. You couldn't taste the alcohol but you know it's there. The appetizer was the skillet cornbread. It's moist and flavorful, but it's savory, not sweet. The entrée was the AOF pork chop. Cooked to perfection with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and crispy fried kale. Dessert was the bread pudding....delicious!

I had breakfast here when I stayed at the Alexandrian last weekend. All in all it was a good breakfast however the one thing I didn't like was the potatoes home fries whatever you want to call them. It was like they took two potatoes and chopped them up into squates. I mean who eats two whole potatoes for breakfast? Not me. It was a total waste of food. One potato would have been fine. Otherwise the service was great and I enjoyed my stay.

Yelp
A group of us reserved an igloo at King &Rye. This was our second year in a row as it is a great time and perfect for the holidays. One of the managers, Leo, was helping out the waiter and told us a story about his tattoo and how it related to his grandmother. The service was outstanding and Leo really was personable. Since no one had reserved the igloo after us we were permitted to stay an extra hour. The shareable small plates and entrees were very good and large enough to share with the eight people in our party. The pork Shank was the highlight, extremely tender and full of flavor. We also had the tomahawk, and short rib paella. Old fashions and specialty winter inspired cocktails were flowing! The igloos fit up to 8 people and there is a $200 minimum which is not hard to meet at all with a party of 8. Great set up for a holiday gathering with friends or family.

Yelp
Came in during a very buzy breakfast period, and joined a largish group (10) in amongst many others for Saturday brunch. Order taken quickly, and drinks & food followed at a modest pace. Drinks were ok, it was a mediocre Manhattan while others had bottled local beers. The menu was, to put it bluntly, disappointing. I was hoping for a specialty, or something creative- but it was basic faire menu at marked up prices. Settled on the shrimp & grits, which they used "fat back" southern style bacon, which was mostly a smoked rendered piece of pork fat. Not very good, imho. The area was also crowded, noisy and blustery with a nearby open door blasting us with cold air anytime they went to serve people in their private dining "igloos." Oh, and I never saw the "all dressed in black wait staff" or waitress again after service except to ask if we were done with the table. Guess the included tip for the party over 6 just wasn't enough for them to be civil or to offer waters or coffee. I don't think you'll have a bad meal, on average, but it won't be memorable either. I have little reason to return. If you're fine for a mash up between starbucks & waffle house- while paying double for it, with marginal service- sure, eat here. But it's not somewhere I would recommend you dine.

Yelp
Impromptu Date Night: My wife and I came to King & Rye yesterday evening after we swung past Ben'Yays, but boy were we surprised at this little gem on King Street. The restaurant wasn't crowded but the decor was lovely and sophisticated. We opted to sit inside since there wasn't any available tables outside but it was a mice experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was immaculate! The chicken was delcious and the potatoes were buttery goodness! The burger was cooked well-done and was good, but those carrots!!! They were top-tier and firm, yet the flavors in the remoulade were divine! So good. All in all, we had a great time, and no room for dessert! Next time, though. We'll come back though.

Yelp
For an hotel restaurant this is actually one of the best I have tried. The steak was amazing. Service is great excellent and same for the ambiance. People are nice. Only the wine should be improved.

Tony G.

Yelp
We tried this restaurant out on a Saturday evening. The first thing that hit me when we sat down was how hot it was in the restaurant. I will say that it was a very hot day, however, the temperature in the restaurant should not reflect the temperature outside. I was extremely hot and uncomfortable the entire time we were there. The restaurant is nice inside. As far as the food, the cornbread and deviled eggs were really good. However, I ordered the brined chicken dish for my entree and ended up sending it back. It was flavorless. I ended up getting the shrimp and grits and it was better, but it was just okay. My husband enjoyed his scallop dish. The server was nice and was helpful in recommending dishes. Overall, an underwhelming dining experience. I expected more for the price of the dishes.

Yelp
I was looking forward to breakfast here, after a night at the Alexandrian. I've been there for dinners and drinks before, and it all went well. Breakfast was unfortunately kind of so-so. We ordered Shrimp and Grits, and the House Smoked Bacon Benedict. The shrimp themselves tasted good, albeit being less plentiful than expected. And the shellfish bisque used as sauce looked a bit soupy but had a good flavor. It was the "house smoked bacon" that caused me to pull every single lardon out and pushed it to the side. And I say this as someone who usually loves bacon. I was distinctly reminded of very fatty chicken. And my breakfast buddy left her larger piece to the side and thought it reminded her of pork chop. Since I've had good other experiences, I'll go back. But probably not for breakfast.

Gigi A.

Yelp
The food is hit or miss. I read the reviews but we wanted to give it a try. Some of the dishes are good but some are not so good like the biscuit. It was hard and old. The Manhattan split was delicious! Great ambiance and great service though.

Yelp
We were invited as guests of someone who rented one of the igloos in the courtyard area. This is such a fun and unique experience. It seats about eight people. They do have a minimum spend for the igloo, but it is not very expensive. They have an amazing assortment of southern tapas and small plates. They have a tomahawk steak, a pork chop and a rainbow trout served family style, however what they are most known for is their sharing paella's which come in an assortment of chicken and andouille sausage, seafood, and short rib. We tried the seafood which was packed with mussels, squid and shrimp. The group also enjoyed the braised short rib. The group also got the tomahawk which was huge and already sliced. That is served with the most amazing mashed potatoes and rainbow carrots. The presentation of everything is beautiful. They also have a great cocktail menu. Keep in mind this igloo menu is different from their indoor menu and not everything is available from the indoor menu in the igloos. The igloos have different themes and we were in ski chalet. They do have blankets and some people were cold and kept their coat on and use the blankets while others like myself from Florida. We're just fine and didn't wear their coat. I would definitely gather a group of friends and go before the season ends. Enjoy!

Yelp
This is the perfect brunch place in Old Town Alexandria! The food was amazing! I got the cinnamon roll, the Virginia breakfast, and the pancakes. The cinnamon roll was so warm and delicious. The portions were large and was definitely worth the price. They had a variety of mimosas and other delicious cocktails. The ambiance was perfect. The decor in the restaurant was so beautiful and posh. The service was great. Our waitress was very nice and attentive.

Erika T.

Yelp
I recently attended the garden cocktail party at King and Rye and overall it was ok, but I was also a bit disappointed. The event seemed heavily targeted towards influencers and felt oversold, as the venue was packed with 100-200 people, and there was only one bar. For a "cocktail party," the long wait times to get a drink were frustrating. The food options were also underwhelming. The flatbread at the flatbread station was cold, and while they had a nacho bar, the only passed hors d'oeuvre was burger sliders, which were the most filling item available. Additionally, there was very limited seating, which made it uncomfortable for such a large crowd. For the $50 ticket price, I expected a more enjoyable experience. The bouquet-making station was a nice touch, but it wasn't enough to make up for the other shortcomings. Im not sure how the restaurant is, but wouldn't recommend attending their events as it seemed more focused on attracting influencers rather than providing a great experience for all guests.

Yelp
We went for brunch on a Sunday morning. The consensus was that everything sounded better than it tasted. Cinnamon roll was dry. Shrimp and grits were meh (ie no flavor). The side of pancakes were our favorite. It was pretty unmemorable - I would have been happier at a casual take away coffee shop. The space is very open - they have a few tables set up right in front of the door an on a cold day...it's pretty chilly.

Dakota M.

Yelp
Our experience at this place was incredibly enjoyable! We decided to reserve the Igloo's at the back for a double date, and although those closest to the heater were the coziest, it was still a fantastic and unique experience. The menu offers amazing food, and you can't go wrong with any choice. However, we did face a few minor issues. We quickly ran out of table space for the four of us, so it would be helpful to have a stacking cart or ledges inside the igloo for drinks. Additionally, our igloo had a dripping issue during the rain, and it does get cold near the zipper entrance. To improve the experience, it would be great to have a touch pad or app for ordering from inside the igloo, along with a chat option for any questions. Despite these small concerns, we had a wonderful time overall, and the ambiance, friendly waiter, and delicious food made it a memorable date or brunch spot!

Lennea B.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Old Town and king and rye didn't disappoint. All the staff was very friendly and attentive from the moment you walked in. But first parking is street parking but there's a parking lot on the side streets that's only $1 per hour that's a steal.... Ok so we reserved for the heated igloos so we were outside .... Very cute. We ordered the deviled eggs and cinnamon bun as apps both were delicious. The eggs were seasoned to perfection. I'm not big on cocktails due to them being weak but both of my hot cocktails did not disappoint.... The cozy by the fire was my favorite. It was a hot apple cider and cinnamon whiskey drink. I ordered a burger that was suppose to come with a side of tater tots but came with fries due to them running out but our server gave us extra potatoes as well to satisfy our loss of tater tots lol The food and condiments are made in house the bacon my friend had was hand slice and thick like pork belly. Overall the price the ambiance the service the food and convenience was all FIVE STARS...

Tabitha T.

Yelp
We visited for brunch. The best thing about the resteraunt is the service. The food was okay.

Spencer L.

Yelp
Vibe: Sunday brunch. Wear a shirt with a frocket, you could do shorts (not booty shorts). Food: one miss for every four hits. Cinnamon roll was , breakfast sandwich was but the shrimp and grits were just ok. Cocktail, frozen shrimp drowned in whatever that sauce is. Service: We were served well! Bathroom: Not located in the restaurant, but real close through a back door into the hotel next door (all attached and you don't need to walk outside.

Pat M.

Yelp
Lovely Sunday Brunch! Started with the Cider Mimosa, so very appreciated on a sunny Fall day! Next, we ordered the Cinnamon Roll with cream cheese icing in a hot skillet (don't miss this yummy treat), and and ordered of the Deviled Eggs. For our mains, we ordered Eggs Benedict and the Virginia Breakfast. Both were prepared as requested and were delicious. Our server, Yasser, was very personable and made certain that we were well taken care of. The atmosphere was modern, yet comfortable. We highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

May M.

Yelp
We went to get breakfast while staying at The Alexandrian. The food was prepared and cold. I ordered the Benedict, then it was replaced with a new meal. Then it came out with one cooked egg and one runny egg. Coke was flat returned for another. I was tried of replacing food o just left it. Not worth it. We went for drinks in the evening, that was great. Had the small plate of scallops for $28. Yes that was a bad choice at a drunken moment. 2 scallops and 4 potato's! lol! Please take your choices sober. I have went to luxurious restaurants so I didn't care about paying $28 for a small plate but maybe give me 4 scallops, would I come back? Not for food but for happy hour drinks..yes

Lydia L.

Yelp
I've been to King & Rye a few times now, and I'm always very happy with it. This time I came with a friend to try the Girl Scout cookies and whiskey flight, which was a very cute idea and super fun. All of the whiskeys were delicious and interesting, and I really appreciated the thought that went into the pairings. My only complaint was that the pours were a bit small for the price, and it would have been nice to have maybe two cookies instead of just one. We already got the potato chowder from the starters menu, and it completely knocked our socks off! I'm a definite soup lover, and this is one of the best potato soups I've ever tried. The chunks of pork were such a great addition. I'll be getting it again for sure!

Dani A.

Yelp
Okay service, we were seated immediately without a reservation on Saturday morning. Cool restaurant vibes, decor was interesting. Menu had decent option, food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I thought the chicken and biscuits with gravy and eggs was pretty good. My wife didn't care for her standard eggs and bacon mostly cuz the bacon was very fatty. TBH, I liked her bacon. I got a side of ham which we both thought was tasty.

J F.

Yelp
The situation here is a bit over the top (not in a good way). Having breakfast while visiting the hotel next door --and I have traveled extensively...it was 'good/average food'. Two things: 1) sausage patties came out like burned hockey pucks (asked to replace with either ones that were done right or bacon). They brought bacon and it was also crisped and fell apart upon touching it was so over done. They brought me a new one (very sweet waitress). There were two servers working the tables (small group and a manager) for about 30 tables and only 5 weee full. I had raised my hand a couple of times trying to capture someone attention -- kept trying to get someone attention and the manager saw me (did not come by) but instead from across the room told me 'you need to relax') and he went about his morning. Did not stop to come see what I could need? Meanwhile my server was very busy polishing glasses and setting new tables...and ignoring me. Another waitress came by and asked me what I needed since my hand was still up (there were 4 tables with people at then). I just wanted additional water when they had a chance. Nothing out of the ordinary. Anyhow -- the food was 'good' but if this is the kind of service you get with attitude - no thank you! Oh and. Oh and no service was proactive --- asking if everything is ok, checking back in, more coffee / water etc.

James H.

Yelp
I've came here for a casual brunch before and my experiences were similar. A calm spacious restaurant on King Street, located nearby other restaurants and shops. We ordered the cast iron cinnamon roll which comes out hot and was delicious. I proceeded to get the shrimp and grits & a side of ham with gravy. Both items were delicious. Service was timely. Overall, a nice place to get brunch but make sure you have reservations.

Elliot C.

Yelp
Yesterday was my first experience at King & Rye and I can say with absolutely certainty that I will not be returning. This seems to be another example of a hotel restaurant prioritizing form over function. All show no go. I ordered a bottle of wine and three dishes; the deviled eggs, seared scallops and burger. Below is what I received. Seared scallops: 5 medium size scallops, a handful of breakfast potatoes, a green sauce and some fried kale. The scallops were not even close to seared. They were dropped into the fryer with the potatoes and kale. They tasted of old fryer oil and dripped grease when squeezed. This was a $30 dish. Gross. Burger: My first observation when the plate arrived was that the tater tots were fried to a very dark brown color. I tasted one while the server was at the table and it was bitter. Wayyy over cooked. I asked the server if that was how they were normally served and she replied it was with noticeable hesitation. I asked for a new order, which she brought. The burger wasn't bad. It had good seasoning, but not much else happening with it. The bun was of the grocery store variety and cold to the touch. Deviled eggs: The most flavorful bite of the night. 4 half eggs so not a great value, but they tasted good. not mad about it. Service: Our plates started to be cleared before they were finished. I actually had to ask for my food back. We still had a half bottle of wine. Chairs were being put up on all the tables around us as we finished our wine. As I poured the last glass from the bottle the lights were turned up all the way. Pretty clear we weren't welcome to stay. It was 10pm. The website says they seat until 10. Please do better.

Pat E.

Yelp
Dropped in for a beer and to get out of humidity late afternoon (from Alaska ). Excellent service, nice ambiance with a singer doing classic rock song. Had the devil eggs, excellent but wish they gave more than 4! Cheese platter also very good. Nice selection of beer.

Brandi B.

Yelp
I came to King & Rye for dinner with a friend of mine. We were greeted at the hostess stand and taken to our seats. It was a Thursday, so they weren't packed at all. We started off with a couple cocktails. I opted to have the WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF. Not bad but nothing to brag about. For dinner, we started with the crab cakes and the kale Caesar. The crab cakes were lacking and not worth the price tag. The star of the show was the kale Caesar! It comes with a molasses Caesar dressings that takes things to another level. Now for the entrees, we went with the SEVEN HILLS DRY AGED CHEF'S CUT. That came with blue cheese mashed potatoes and Swiss chard. My friend said it was good. I went with the PORK AND BEANS. Definitely shocked me at how good it was! Super flavorful and enough to take home to eat for lunch the next day! I'll definitely be back for the kale ceasar and pork and beans!

Sabrina G.

Yelp
I recommend this place for good vibes, drinks, and food with family, friends and or co workers. The inside of this place is a nice size but I was in love with the cocktail garden even though it wasn't what I thought. The food was good and the drinks were divine. We had alot of food at the table. My wife enjoyed her Brussels and the crab cakes. I loved the shrimp and grits which was surprisingly because I am usually a Cajun shrimp and grits type of girl. The flavors of those were like a friend onion soup lol. The service was great. Our server gave great recommendations and was very attentive to our needs. Check them out June 10th for their Pride Drag Brunch!

Cara J.

Yelp
Poor bar service. Very racist attitude from bartender. Will not be returning and do not recommend.

Heather T.

Yelp
Live music was the best part. Got crab dip and it wasn't good and was liquid and soupy. Husbands fried tomatoes were ok - not great. Service was not great. Never saw out waitress and had to go inside to find her to get a bill. Drinks were not good.

Shenise F.

Yelp
It's rare when I love everything I order.... I ended up ordering the seven hills chefs cut of beef and the key lime pound cake. I devoured everything and even ordered some blue cheese potato purée to go. I would go back to the restaurant for the potato purée alone.

Cat B.

Yelp
I can't say enough..maybe it was because it was date night with our best friends and we were just giddy but the evening was perfect. Our waiter was fantastic, charming, attentive. The food was spot on and delicious. The drinks... oh my goodness. Not one single bad thing to report except we should have stayed there all night instead of going to another bar! We loved so much we can for breakfast- again... not a single disappointing thing!! Definitely will be back.

Tracey B.

Yelp
I love this place and feel so bad writing this but unless they fixed their problem, I would not be able to go back. The bartender and hostess' nonchalant reaction to the two visitors running around in the dining room showed me they had seen the before and assumed every nearby restaurant had them. Maybe so, but they were awfully comfortable running around the room at this restaurant. If this is everywhere, keep them where I can't see them.

Keyana L.

Yelp
I dined here for Alexandria Restaurant Week and they did not disappoint!! Amazing service, the bartender Gretchen was very knowledgeable and suggested some great recommendations. There was even live music! Highly recommend. I'll be back. 10/10!

Matthew L.

Yelp
Came for Alexandria Restaurant Week and didn't have too much expectation as no one had recommended King & Rye too us. I'd say that this place performed admirably but won't knock your socks off. Cornbread was very dry and tough so get your beverages on deck and teeth sharpened. Kale salad had flavorful dressing and a hefty portion. Strip loin was over cooked but seasoning was very nice and had a good char to enhance the flavor. Pork and beans was the star of the show, mainly only the pork as everything else is just thrown on the plate

Julia C.

Yelp
Excellent menu options with a sleek modern honey interior. Fast and accommodating service. The menu has just enough options to appease all breakfast and lunch comfort cravings without being overwhelming. The drinks are well made.

Kela G.

Yelp
I had a reservation here on a Sunday at 12pm, with my brother and mother accompanying me. The restaurant has dim lighting and sort of a dark atmosphere to it. We ate off the brunch menu, which unfortunately had varying reviews. I opted for the Virginia breakfast, which included : toast, potatoes, scrambled eggs with cheese, and bacon. The scrambled eggs with cheese were very good and I appreciated how they added chives to it. The potatoes are very big and tasted of an old bay seasoning, and were perfectly crisp. Now the bacon was more of slices of pork belly, it was very oily and fatty. The toast for sourdough bread but was not good to me. I'm not sure what it was , but it was very dry and honestly tasted stale to me. My mother ordered shrimp and grits which were absolutely delicious. They were well seasoned and I wish I would've order that instead. The shrimp had a sausage like aroma, which was divine. My brother opted for the pancakes, these were not anything to write home about as they were kind of dry, and weren't my typical type of pancake. If you love the crispy edges and soft in the middle pancakes, these are not for you. We also ordered the deviled eggs, which were spicy as heck. I actually think they put the Devil in the egg. Maybe we had a bad batch but I love spice and this made me eat with caution. Now for the server, she was pleasant but did very minimal to enhance the eating experience. Per example not asking if we needed any condiments and not checking on us within good amount of time. It felt as if she was very distant or just very dry with our table. The cost for our meal was $69.95 , which I believe was fair including we also ordered a Bellini which was good.

Megan K.

Yelp
I had dinner with a large group of people here. Service was excellent, very attentive, drinks were refilled quickly and orders were taken promptly. The menu is very unique, with more hearty dishes perfect for the winter. If you have a party of 8 or more the restaurant does have a one check/one card policy and an 18% gratuity is automatically included.

Joe M.

Yelp
Brunch apple salad was good. Not filling for a full lunch. The burger was very good the tater tots were outstanding. Chicken dish on brunch menu was okay. They ran out of shrimp and grits. Cool place with outdoor seating and courtyard seating supplementing the inside. We could not get any alcoholic drinks other than on brunch menu which was disappointing.

Aubree W.

Yelp
Overview: I had a nice Galentine's Day brunch with some friends here on a Saturday in February. We made reservations beforehand due to the busy weekend. This restaurant is very spacious and the tables are far enough apart that you don't hear any neighboring conversations. This would be a good place for families and large groups to dine. The service was excellent and we were in and out in a suitable amount of time. The food was delicious and I will be back in the future for either lunch or dinner. Food & Drinks: I had two drinks while dining here. I had a Cider Mimosa and the I Love You Berry Much sangria which I believe was a Valentine's Day specialty drink. The cinnamon sugar rim around the cider mimosa was a nice touch and the champagne mixed with the apple cider was a good balance of bubbly and sweet. The I Love You Berry Much sangria consisted of rosé mixed with strawberries and raspberries and it had a summerlike refreshing taste. For an appetizer we ordered the Deviled Eggs and you get four of them. I love deviled eggs so no complaints there but the hot sauce that was used was a bit spicy for me. I got some on my lips and they tingled for about 5 minutes. I ordered the House Smoked Bacon Benedict as my entrée and this was a good portion size. I was especially please with the breakfast potatoes; they had the right amount of crisp to them. Restrooms: The restroom was clean. There are multiple stalls and it is spacious enough to fit a stroller or wheelchair.

Yelp
Visited during restaurant week and I know they were busy but we were seated at our table for 30 minutes and no server ever spoke to us or even made eye contact when we tried waving them down. Eventually we moved to the bar and ordered through the bartender who was friendly and attentive. The dishes were delicious and portions large.

Yelp
Our meal was solid and the service was excellent - I don't know if I love how big their tables are as it leaves little room for feeling line you're in an intimate dinner setting... I appreciated they accommodated my request for by the window. I also liked the lights they had on the table. They're definitely trying hard to create a vibe I appreciated it. My duck was cooked perfectly and we loved the salad with the pomegranates. The deviled eggs were also super comforting. Steak was great as well. One note is the sweet potatoes and carrots were way too sweet / candied for a savory meal and it felt disappointing since it's clear they're spending on quality ingredients and should need to doctor them so much to shine ... great hotel restaurant to have !

Yelp
In old town Alexandria so street parking available. It was a cute place and wish we could have done the Winter Wonderland Igloo experience. Overrall, decent food but a little pricey. Service was also alright. Took some time for us to get our drinks and for things to be cleared from the table and when we asked for recommendations or opinions, we didn't get too much of a helpful response. I had asked whether we should get the grits or the oysters and our server just indicated that the oysters are raw so if we didn't like that, the grits were the way to go. Similar with the dessert on whether the fig Cobbler would be best or the deconstructed Blueberry crumble. Our server just indicated that figs were the main star of the dish so if we didn't like figs, we should go with the crumble. We started with an order of mulled wine and the Smashed & Spiked cocktail. Both were really good but I loved the mulled wine. We ordered the Scallop & Grits for the appetizer which was well made and had great flavors. For our dinner, I ordered the Seven Hills Dry Aged Ribeye and my boyfriend ordered the Local Duck Breast. Although both were well cooked, I felt the dishes were a little underwhelming for the price and not very filling. We ended up ordering dessert ~ Chocolate Peanut Butter Bacon Bar and the Seasonal Fig Cobbler. Both were alright but I did enjoy the ginger ice cream on top. I think coming here for drinks is a good idea as there is decent bar seating.

Yelp
I know this is technically a hotel restaurant/bar, but it's one of my go to when I need to stop on King Street for a quick bite/drink in a nice atmosphere. Nice menu of craft cocktails and snacks; some of the entrees are a bit steep for me so I typically stick to apps. Bartenders are entertaining and take care of you!

Yelp
I'm giving this place 3 stars based on the service, not the food. I will say the food was good--smaller portions that expected, but still flavorful with beautiful plating. When we got our dessert--we still had our appetizer, and dinner plates still on our table. No one at any point cleared our tables, our server walked by our table several times and didn't even bother clearing our table. The person who brought out our dessert said "we will get those plates"--but never came back. It was a little frustrating to have a table full of uncollected dirty dishes. It took a while for our sever to come to our table, I want to say 10 minutes/ plus which is long when you're just being seated. I will say, it's possible they were short staffed which would be a managerial issue and no so much on the server. It was just hard to get our servers attention for our needs and that made the dining experience a little subpar.

Yelp
Scallops and candied brussels sprouts were both fantastic. Service was fast and bartenders were cool.

Yelp
First time at king & rye. Server greeted nicely. She was friendly. Had the crab cake appetizer. So dry. It was hard to consume. Tasteless. I told the server it's too dry, due to a language barrier, she told me to enjoy it. Haha. Told her again, said I'd try to eat another one but asked her to bring salt, pepper, more of the red sauce & olive oil, hoping to fix the crab cakes myself. She brought back the sauce & hot sauce which I didn't ask for. Clearly a huge language barrier. She again said enjoy it with a smile. So crazy. Not addressing an issue repeatedly is so annoying.  Basically how I read the situation was that, too bad the crab cakes are dry, take it or leave it. What kind of customer service is this? Then the manager stops by with my branzino and says he heard i didn't like the crab cakes. I told him it was dry. He says sorry & offers a free dessert. I declined. I didn't want dessert today. Fix the problem at hand. When I initially notified the server of this issue after forcing down one of the little crab cakes, I wish she offered me some other appetizer from the menu. Or had the kitchen remake the crab cakes. Everything can't be bad on the menu because the branzino was cooked perfectly, mouthwatering flavor and the veggies were very tasty too. The okra was so yummy. The table behind me was talking loudly about their food and they said that nothing was really had that WOW factor. Everything was just OK. And I agree. Outdoor seating was nice. Given how the staff handled the dry crab cakes situation, I don't really recommend this place. There are a lot of good restaurants with amazing food in old Town Alexandria.

Yelp
The food was good and the drinks were great. I ordered the apple cider mimosa & pineapple margarita. The service was great and they distanced patrons accordingly so it felt safe, they also have outdoor seating. The grits were creamy and & I always appreciate restaurants taking the tails off of the shrimp when it's this type of dish. The seasoning was also good. The cinnamon roll was AMAZING. I wish we got one for each of us but it was definitely enough for two people (We were just being greedy) haha. Overall, solid location with decent pricing for a good meal. I'll be back for sure

Yelp
Breakfasts here are very good and the ambiance is nice. Service this morning was awful. Impossible to get waitress's attention. If you think you might need a refill on your coffee or a glass of water, I'd recommend bringing smoke signals or a laser light show.

Yelp
My wife and I went to King & Rye for brunch on a beautiful Saturday. The restaurant was not too busy so we were seated right away. The restaurant is beautifully set up and plenty of space between the tables to maneuver around. We were greeted right away by our server. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked. The drinks were also good. The prices were reasonable for the dining experience. Overall, I would recommend King & Rye to everyone and my wife and I will certainly be back.

Yelp
It is sad to leave a low review because most of the bartenders are great, but don't go here after about 5:00. Especially if it is within to hours of closing, they are rude and dismissive. It seems to be one or two bartenders in all the times I have stayed here, but it always seems to be the same ones. There are so many other great places to grab a cocktail on King St, I recommend this isn't one of them.
