I want to start by saying the waiter was the highlight of this visit--super friendly, attentive, and eager to help. If it weren't for him, this would be a one-star review.
That said, the experience was confusing from the start. The menu I was given didn't match what I had seen online. After some back and forth (and using Google Translate), the waiter confirmed they have a separate menu--presumably one for non-Chinese patrons. I was the only customer in the restaurant, aside from the waiter and the cook, who were watching golf together.
Here's what I ordered:
Dumplings (chicken & pork): The wrapper tasted stale or just off, and the filling had zero flavor. Couldn't finish them.
Squid leg skewer: Fishy, undercooked, and inedible. Left most of it untouched.
Cumin quail: I thought this would be a skewer, but it came plated. Flavor-wise it was okay (if you like cumin), but dry. Quail is hard to get right, so I'll give them a little grace here.
Shrimp with clear noodles (soup-style): Served over a flame in a nice presentation, but again, lacking flavor. The shrimp were fine, cabbage was decent, but the noodles were sparse and forgettable. I even forgot I ordered noodles and asked for rice, which they kindly brought.
Overall, I left full but disappointed. I hope I don't regret it later. There were moments of promise, but not enough to make me want to return.
