9 New North Carolina Cocktail Spots Worth a Sip

"Opened: May 2018 The bird theme reigns supreme here, with lighting in bird cages and tap handles decorated with bird figurines, plus beers like the Chickadee (a sour) and the Tweet Tooth (a stout). Inside, relax in the hardwood-floored, homey feel, or pull up a picnic table on the patio. Try: Yolks On You, the brewery’s newest double IPA, brewed with a floral taste and honeysuckle and mango notes." - Katie Toussaint

We have been going here for years. Always great service and perfect atmosphere. Austin and the crew make us feel welcome! Beers are made on site and always have a great selection. The rotating food trucks are convenient. Highly recommend if you are looking for a brewery around Lake Norman.

Google
Great brewery. Awesome atmosphere! Even better selection of Brews! Clean bathrooms and everyone so friendly. Had a great time and will be back.

My wife and I visited the Davidson location for the first time in June. We frequented the Mooresville location on prior occasions. We entered the Davidson establishment and I was intrigued by the architecture and atmosphere. It was busy, however, we were immediately greeted by our server. I believe her name is Vicky. She was extremely friendly, charming, very knowledgeable and extremely customer service oriented. I had the Mexican Lager and the Amber. As usual, both of the selections were outstanding. A very well made offering. The offerings will satisfy any pallet who knows excellent beer. The food menu is unique and offer a excellent variety and the potato wedges and crab was delicious. My wife inquired about the Bourbon Smoked Old Fashion and Vicky was gracious enough to take a few moments and sit down by our table and explain in detail the ingredients and method of making it. I consider that impeccable customer service. If your searching for an elegant but simple restaurant/brewery, with outstanding service, a great atmosphere, friendly surroundings and fine alcoholic beverages and food,I highly recommend King Canary in Davidson.

My brother's baby shower. I was a part of setting up. Loved the brewery and the people that worked there. Tori was amazing and accommodated my family like it was her own. Best choice we could have made. Would not hesitate to come back or have another event there!

Google
Hidden gem on Lake Norman! 💎 I can say that I have not had a beer here that I wouldn’t order a pint (or multiple pints) of. Everything is absolutely delicious. Beer making geniuses! They have something for every taste. My recent fav is the collaboration with Devils Logic, RETWEET! 😋 Awesome, inviting environment on the water, that you can bring the entire family to. 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 🐶 🍻

Google
Place is extremely chaotic and tight. You no table service, one of those pandemic style places that never moved on. Expensive prices and ask for tips even though you have to walk up to order behind usually a large line in places there shouldn’t be a line. There’s no room. If you want to be claustrophobic and overhear 20 different peoples convos, this is the place for you.

Google
Beer is great. Bartenders were on point. Other customers were cool. Everyone had cute dogs. Raspberry Gose was excellent. Birds an the trees collaboration with High Branch was delicious. Relaxed atmosphere, converted old house. Food trucks were there. Highly recommend.

Google
This brewery is beautiful! A great place to hang out at and past the time with friends. Not to mention their beers are delicious🍻😋 Tried two IPA’s and their pale ale. Highly suggest trying the lime vanilla IPA, it’s super unique! Added bonus, great place for pictures.

Yelp
The beer was great, the service was phenomenal, and the atmosphere is exactly what you need from a brewery nowadays. Seen some four-star reviews with nothing but good things to say, that means it deserves five stars! Don't pass up the opportunity to check this place out if you're looking for a top tier brewing company in the Mooresville/LKN area!

Yelp
What a lovely little lake side brewery surprise! Dog friendly?! Check! Kid friendly?! Check! Excellent wine... and delicious, seasonal and good bodied beer? Check! Super cute merch? Check! Lovely indoor seating plus various outdoor spots with and without cover....? Check! With and without heaters? Check! Great and informative bar servers? Check! This place has thought of it all - it's perfect!! Oh- forgot the cheese puffs at the bar.... You can't go wrong with King Canary.

Yelp
What a terrific little spot hidden off the highway. Not knowing the area whatsoever, we would've never have seen or known of this gem of a brewing company. They even have a food truck that was there as well. Polite and friendly! If we have the time we will stop back in!
google avatar

Benjamin R.

Yelp
Nice place but this isn't trying to dump on the company, but no need to tip! Their model is self serve like fast food places, so I don't tip at McDonald's so no need to tip here. Only one area to get drinks so the line gets a little annoying. Good beer and appetizers!

Yelp
Came to explore some breweries outside the 704 and found this place. With an east-coast country club aesthetic, but chill vibe (luved the hanging bird cages!), this is a great place to grab a flight or pint to relax your afternoon away!. This place is also a great way to finish the day for the patio views alone, and if you can catch the sunset you are #winning Lots of indoor and outdoor seating, friendly staff, and beer options. Was a great find in Mooresville! Beers I had: Little Wing Blonde Ale 5.9% Parrot Dice Milkshake IPA 7.4% Mother Joose DIPA 8% Stork Chop Milk Stout 6.5%
google avatar

Heather G.

Yelp
Always fun and tasty brew options with a diverse menu to make it a perfect afternoon destination.

Yelp
My chiropractor has been telling me that King Canary is awesome and we just had not made it out there yet. Well we stopped in this past weekend and it was amazing! The beers were all fantastic and they had a good variety of styles. So everyone should fine something they would like. My wife and I both had a flight and we genuinely enjoyed each brew. The bartender was prompt and courteous. He helped us find some beers that might be up our alley. This place is right on the water which just gives it a nice vibe. Also there are plenty of games that can entertain kids and big kids alike! The upstairs area is a great place to enjoy a beverage on a beautiful day. They do have some snacks but luckily there was a food truck there that day! So that is always a nice option. If you are up in the area, I would highly suggest you stop in for a cold beverage.

Yelp
Hidden Gem Alert: "Just another brewery?" you might ask yourself... but no. This place is special! It's on a little cove of Lake Norman and inside a two story house. The decor is homey, modern, cozy and sophisticated. The beer is DELICIOUS! I have too many favorites to list but sample whatever looks good to you and trust me, you'll have a tough time picking your first round draft ;) The merch is adorable - get the grey hat for a stylish piece you can wear year round to support this amazing local Mooresville business. Food trucks are always good if you get hungry and there's a cute little game arcade upstairs along with yard games for kids and kids at heart! Love this place and have been supporting for years. It just gets better and better.

Yelp
Selection is lacking. The venue is very nice, but you really don't feel welcome here. The bartenders personality was flat

Yelp
Ventured out to king canary yesterday with some friends and absolutely loved it! The place is SUPER nice and has plenty of room with a main level with patio seating and a big upstairs and a huge outside area also . Great selection of beer with snacks available also for 1$, I went with the Parrot Dice milkshake IPA at 6.8%. Loved the flavor and was a very good beer. Tons of cool beer names to fit the theme with plenty of games also to play with friends . If your in Mooresville, I recommend...no I demand you stop by and check these guys out, you will not be let down

Shannon G.

Yelp
Just a really chill place to be! Great service and atmosphere. Would definitely go again.

Yelp
Cute brewery on the side of lake norman (no docks or much of a view but it's on the lake)! Good beer selection but not a huge list. A fav spot of mine to visit and they always have an awesome food truck line up. You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first visit to King Canary, and I was pretty satisfied. There was a food truck outside for a Friday night, ample great seating outside (although it was too cold to utilize on this trip), a large bar and an upstairs....something (I didn't go up, but people seemed to be having a wonderful time). There is a wide range of beer, from IPAs (with and without lactose) and sours to dark offerings. We tried the barrel aged berlinerweisse and the chocolate porter. Both were really good, though one lactose IPA wasn't much to our liking. Overall, the place is a really neat stop in Mooresville with a lot of potential and definitely return worthy.

Yelp
King Canary has been a regular stop for my friends and I following our days at the lake. I live near Uptown so I love exploring new breweries outside of the South End/Noda/Plaza bubble - King Canary has become one that I really love. They have a great selection of beers, but I love the wheat and IPA the most. The inside of this brewery is SUPER cute and homey. They stay true to their name from the decor to the beer handles. Everything is "nature/bird" themed. Very different from other breweries in the CLT area. The laid back atmosphere makes it feel like you're family when you walk through the doors. They also have a kids play area upstairs and games outside, which makes this brewery super kid friendly! There are plenty of outdoor patio tables and they usually have a band playing in the evenings. They don't have food (except snacks for sale inside for $1), but there's always a food truck on site. If you're from CLT and have not been here you need to check it out!

Yelp
This place is super cute. It has such a warm, welcoming feel and all of the staff were super nice and took the time to actually have a conversation with us and talk about their beer. It overlooks the water and has plenty of seating both inside and outside. We didn't make it upstairs but there is more seating and a bar up there. The day we went they had infused their Berliner Weisse with caramel to make a caramel apple flavor with a caramel and sugar rim and it was to die for! We will absolutely be back here again, hopefully when the weather warms up to enjoy their outdoor patio.

Yelp
Adorable! Johanna Gaines style/Farmhouse decorating which caught my eye! Whoever decorated please come to my house!!! Make sure you check out the and the fabulous upstairs. The views of the lake are hard to beat. They have fun $1 per scoop snacks which are in these huge candy jars. Also the merchandise is cute! The shirts looked so cozy! Husband and I both did a flight. He is a big IPA fan so it hit all the right flavors for him. I liked the blonde ales. They have a calendar of events. I eyed up Weds where it was trivia at 7p with a taco food truck. Every night seemed to have a fun food truck. They had multiple areas for kids to hang out. Not sure if they are dog friendly but I wouldn't see why not outside but we did come on a Sunday at 6p. Only thing slow down, the sign is hard to see on the road if your a first timer. Will definitely be back. Even if I drink water to take in the adorable decor and get some ideas (just kidding)

Yelp
Little beer joint on the outskirts of Mooresville more on a lagoon than the lake. Like a good restrained IPA? Me too. Squaky Talky is like that; the primary flavor ingredient comes roaring through with grace and elegance of a pterodactyl in a ptu-ptu but in a good way: hops leave no doubt about who is in charge here but doesn't act like a jack-hole about it (kinda like the tabasco peppers in that hot sauce I like.) Fruit Cockatiel is an odd sweet mess that stops just short of assaulting the senses and sensibilities. Not my regular cup of meat but would make a good breakfast beer on a clear summer morning or mid February way up north. The house is nicely done, a variety of sittings inside and out, upstairs or down. Lots of folks coming and going with a happy vibe if you're into that sort of thing or you can sit quietly and ponder imponderables and post to Yelp. Snacks are available, better when a food truck is out front. Nice when they don't to try to make all the money; do the thing you do well and let the next guy have a go too. yea for the local brew crew!

Yelp
Beautiful cool day to do some tasting! Yay. Plenty of seating upstairs, downstairs and outside. They have a food truck too. Yum
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
I was a big fan of their beers. Some very different from what I would normally drink, but I enjoyed their IPAs and was surprised to find I actually likes some with the fruit descriptions (I typically run from these...hmmm, my tastebuds must be changing or it was just that hot that the fruit ones were more refreshing.) They have a beautiful taproom in an old house just off Williamson Rd in Mooresville, right along the lake in a cove. No room to tie up to the dock, but maybe someday. Seemed to be plenty of parking in the lot and in the grass. There is a bar both downstairs and upstairs. They have a wine menu and sparkling waters. The outside area had live music when we were there and several covered areas. I saw cornhole and maybe bocce ball outside. Definitely worth a stop by and try a few flights to taste them all then find your favorites...3 beers in the flight for $6 (I believe). Cheers!

Sharra T.

Yelp
We love everything about this brewery! The beer, the people, the atmosphere, and the variety of food trucks are all amazing.
google avatar

Kristen H.

Yelp
Cute little brewery it's taken me ages to get over to Williamson to check out. We watched the house be renovated and have long been curious about it. It's located on the very tip of a teeny finger of water which will provide a pleasant enough view in the summer. Although there was snow on the ground (it is December, after all), there is clearly ample outdoor seating in the front and some in the back as well. I read online that the outside is dog-friendly, as well, which will serve my friendly dog quite nicely! I "liked" them on Facebook and noticed that there seems to be food trucks of some sort most nights. I noted there's a lobster truck on Thursday nights which will definitely bring us back one Thursday. We've been trying out the local trivia games at various bars and breweries and this past Wed seemed like a good time to try the one at KCBC. It was also taco truck night so we stopped in early to grab some food from the taco truck. (Super-friendly service and everyone liked their food. Super Burrito with all 4 meats was $9, tacos were $2.50 each, your choice of Chorizo, Chicken, Steak or grrrr, I've forgotten the fourth. We also got a cheesy chicken quesadilla which I think was $8.) Trivia is held upstairs in this establishment and there is no elevator. Trivia master is a friendly guy named Andrew who came over and introduced himself and explained the version he offers. There is lag time between each question while he marks our answers so there is time to chat with the folks you came with. There seemed to be enough room upstairs for about 13 teams to play trivia and the whole second floor was full. They offer 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes ($30, $20, $10 gc to KCBC). The bar itself upstairs opens for trivia and we tried a few different kinds. Service to get your beer (they also offer prosecco on tap) was prompt. Almost everyone brought some taco truck takeout upstairs but we had to ask for napkins under the counter. I saw a trivia team bring some snacks from the grocery store, so like many breweries that don't serve food, bringing in snacks from outside is A-ok. After eating my tacos I was dying for something salty to snack on the rest of the night. When you can't get something else to eat and you're drinking beer, you feel even hungrier! The taco truck doesn't serve chips and salsa or nachos, just main dish items. I eyeballed the snacks the team in the back brought and decided I'd just make some appetizers for my group and bring them next time. When it was time to pay we were told to cash out downstairs since we'd opened our tab down there. Lo and behold, if you're downstairs you can purchase pretzels or salty snacks out of big class containers! KCBC, I'd recommend bringing some of those snacks upstairs for the second floor crowd asap. When people are eating they drink more!!!! Decor is adorable and comfy. I can see why KCBC's parking lot is constantly full. Looking forward to trying when it's warm enough to sit outside and I'm sure we'll be back to play trivia again soon.

Yelp
Good beer, not doing flights right now due to covid, like most places. Large seating area outside, some picnic tables and some furniture on turf. Appreciated the fan outside! Great customer service! They even gave us a brewery sticker with the purchase of their beer. Beautiful designs on their cans. They also have a large seating area upstairs! Very cool place, we will be back!
google avatar

Katherine C.

Yelp
King Canary is a quaint and homey brewery built into a cute Mooresville farm house. They have a ton of seating inside and outside, upstairs and downstairs, and you can easily see how they pack the place on the weekends. Their sours and IPAs are excellent and must-try's. Get a bucket flight if you're looking to try a handful of them!

A M.

Yelp
Great beer, even greater customer service. Super cute location on arm on lake and immediately made me feel welcome. Super nice and did i mention good beer? Very clean and adhering to covid masks and cleanliness guidelines.
google avatar

Nathalia M.

Yelp
This place is so awesome! Kid friendly, beer is so tasty, the indoor is so beautiful. My kids enjoyed the arcade room on the second floor, while my husband and I watched some soccer in the bar upstairs. The patio was awesome too, nice umbrellas for this 90 degree weather. We live in Charlotte, but it was worth the drive.
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
I have been to King Canary twice now and I love this place. I had never heard of it until I tried their beer on tap at Pop the Top in South End. When I learned that it was a local brewery, I had to try it. They have a cool bird theme going on, and the inside of the brewery is quite groovy. I love the white tile and wood floors. The white and light gray walls give it a clean, crisp, and enjoyable feel. The light fixtures kind of resemble bird cages. They have a nice outdoor patio that faces the street with plenty of seating. My favorite spot is the smaller porch that faces a tributary of the lake. It is covered so you can still sit outside in the rain. I ordered their unfiltered IPA and it was delicious! I will definitely continue drinking their beer around Charlotte and look forward to another trip to the brewery.
google avatar

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came with our dogs on a Saturday night after hiking nearby. Beers were delicious and we sat on the secluded back patio with a nice view of the cove. It was a fairly quiet evening there which was a bit surprising given it was a weekend. I'm glad we stopped by and we'd go again it in the area again.
google avatar

Andrea B.

Yelp
Fun spot to have a drink in the evening. Beers are great flavor and the food truck that was there was tasty as well. Glad this is around the corner of the house .
google avatar

Bev R L.

Yelp
Love this place! I'm not usually a big beer drinker, but I've found a deeper appreciation for the unique flavors and blends they've created. They also come up with funky, creative names for the beers. So if I'm feeling a craving for beer, THIS is where I want to go. The interior ambiance and branding shows a lot of creativity too! I'm an interior designer, and I notice these things. Food trucks so far have been amazing, too!
google avatar

Kayci L.

Yelp
Came here on recommendation of another area brewery and to say I'm obsessed is an understatement! The space is space is beautiful, clean and updated with plenty of space to spread out and find a quiet spot to enjoy their beer. I'm into IPA's and each one I tried were superb. The Champagne Poppy is a newer brut style IPA and is incredible. The milkshake IPA, NE IPA and double IPA were great as well. I'm a big fan of the $1 scoop snacks. It's nice to have something to munch on that's not a full meal. They also have wine and sparking water. Lots of options for everyone. Truly a wonderful date, family or friend hangout spot. and I'll probably end up here on my own at some point - the bar staff are so inviting and conversational. Top notch. Love it here!
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Amazing beer!! Can't wait to go back. Plan to visit again this week while in the area for vacation. Probably get some to-go to take back to OH with me.

Jeff J.

Yelp
Nice brewery, with some really good beer, wine and cider on tap. Food comes from a different food truck every day. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Blake B.

Yelp
Best brewery in Mooresville! Super cool converted house look with a river running through the backyard. The bar tenders are nice and helpful, and they host food trucks regularly in the front. When you go inside there is a second story that contains another bar and they host weekly music bingo and have a pretty consistent post work crowd looking to unwind. The outside patio is dog friendly and they have a ping pong table if that's something your into. I would say in terms of Mooresville this is the brewery for most.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Cutest brewery I have ever visited. It is decorated with an avian theme, bird cages are placed about as well as other pieces that tie into the theme. The bar space is intimate but there is an upstairs and outdoor seating as well. I have been told that this place gets packed but the space handles the crowd well. They offer a variety of beer styles as well as a few wine options on tap. I tried the Mango Grizzly IPA and to be honest it wasn't my thing. I love IPAs but this one left a spicy feel in my throat that stole away any mango flavor that was in there. I asked the bartender about it and he said that the hops may have been overdone when they brewed it. There were a few other beers that sounded tasty that I may stick to if I make it back.
google avatar

Tiffany O.

Yelp
This is such a great brewery! Amazing beers, beautiful decor, comfortable seating, food trucks, corn hole, plenty of parking and plenty of outdoor tables. If you want a fruity and refreshing summer beer, try their berliners. Not too sweet, not too sour - just right. Love their double IPA and milk stout too. There are different food trucks out front all the time. We love hanging out here!
google avatar

Jim E.

Yelp
My new favorite brewery! Delightful atmosphere, friendly staff and fabulous beer selection! Food truck out front. Stop by!
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Awesome Beer selection. They change it often so if u didn't have a favorite keep coming!! It like a new brewery every few months! We meet up with friends and play a game or two! Good times! This is a must stop on a brew tour on Lake Norman!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Always looking for good local beer and this was definitely our favorite! Love the atmosphere and it's right on the water. And of course the beer was great!
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
Went on the recommendations of family and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the beers - the Mango Grizzly (milkshake IPA) and Candy Grifter (cherry Berliner) were both fantastic and reasonably priced. Beautiful serene ambiance right next to the lake made for a relaxing evening out. We also partook in Wednesday night trivia and the trivia host couldn't be any nicer. The only downside was lack of food onsite, but there was a really good taco truck there when we went (though it was cash only, like many establishments in town).
google avatar

Fred S.

Yelp
The environment is amazing good atmosphere bartenders are engaged in conversations and attentive and their selection of beer is amazing. Many options to choose from as well as snacks available if a food truck isn't present. Will be returning.
google avatar

Charlie S.

Yelp
I have been to King Canary twice and both times this brewery did not disappoint. This place has a really good atmosphere inside and out. They have enough staff to service the customers as they were crowded while I was there, but I never felt like I had to wait to get served. New England style IPA was delicious. I highly recommend giving KC a try.
google avatar

JJ S.

Yelp
Honestly was so surprised by this when it popped up. We have been in twice and the place always has a great crowd. Both times there has been a food truck and tonight there was live music. They have a wonderful layout that is comfortable for everyone. The staff is quick and helpful. Beer selection is good and each one I've tried is excellent. They have games inside and outside and an arcade area upstairs. Having a bar upstairs and downstairs is another great feature. We love it. We will soon be regulars.
google avatar

Heather D.

Yelp
I always love coming here! The beer is great, staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is very laid-back. They have the cutest flights, in little tin buckets, which is super unique. Sometimes they have live music outside, which I love, but you can always sit inside, or out back if that's not your thing. It's a must-stop if you like good beer!
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
Wow! Really loved this brewery! They have some really unique brews! I can't wait to come back and visit! It's a great place for a date, especially on the second level!

Wyatt N.

Yelp
I travel a lot and have visited hundreds of breweries all over the world, and I really like King Canary's approach. During a recent business trip I had the opportunity to visit, and I was very impressed. The beers are flavorful and well-balanced (someone below complained the ABVs are low, which is kind of like saying you think all beer should be Dogfish Head; personally, I prefer something that I can drink three or four pints of without needing to reach for the Advil tomorrow morning), the decor is attractive and contemporary, and the service is excellent. I hope they're around for a long time to come.
google avatar

Rhonda W.

Yelp
Came to KC with some friends that live in Mooresville. First of all I have to say the brewery itself is so cozy and I love the decor, everything seemed so comfortable, whoever decorated the place did an awesome job. The outdoor area was nice too, that's where most of the people were. It was Friday night and they had music bingo, which I thought was fun. What wasn't fun to me was all of the kids there, running around, yelling. I get it, thirty-somethings want to go out on Friday night too, but when you don't have young kids anymore, you're less tolerant of that, and when you're out having a beer and trying to relax with friends, that's not really what you want around, kids-fine, yelling and running kids-not fine. I don't know if all weekends are like this, but it would be a deterrent for me to go back. To leave on a positive note, I had 2 of the Fruit Cockatiel beers and I really liked them, light and fruity. There was also a food truck there, I think that's the usual on the weekend.
google avatar

Adam L.

Yelp
Best brewery I've ever been too. From the atmosphere, to the staff, to the beer itself, this place is the real deal. Their beer is the best I've ever drank and their staff is the most friendly, personable I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. LOVE this place!
google avatar

Melanie A.

Yelp
Stopped by for cousin Maine lobster truck. Cuteish place overrun with kids at 530. Only table not occupied by little ones gravel and toys is where we sat outside. We decided this must be the sanctioned kid area, and decided to check out the rest of property. Upstairs we found a secondary tap area as well as arcade and although it was kid free it was muggy and hot. The lake view was more of a tiny creek looking cove, guess the water level is low. Beertenders were friendly enough, but alas 1 drink in we were ready to go to more adult centered place to enjoy ourselves. Would stop by again, but only for lobster rolls!
google avatar

Bri B.

Yelp
Love this little brewery set in a renovated house. The decor is comfortable and soothing, with both indoor and outdoor seating. They offer a wide range of beer options. The beers that I've had are always good! Reasonably priced for craft beer. The staff is always very friendly and helpful.
