Was very surprised at how good the food was at King Chef. I'm pretty sure everything is made to order, and not just sitting in a pan in the back. My food tasted very fresh, very good, very hot, and plenty of it. General Tso combo with soup is really good. If you love standard Chinese food, be prepared to be very happy with King Chef because it was much better!

Google
Love this place so much! It's the best asian fast food out there. We make a special trip from Watertown to Smyrna just for them.

Been coming here for years. It’s always the same great food and great service. I’ve never had a bad meal here.

As someone mentioned, the dining room isn't much, but don't judge a book by its cover. I live nearby and always do takeout anyway. The food is good and very CONSISTENT. It seems that no matter how big or small your order, you get "10 minute" (and they're always right). Also, I've not had a crappy attitude there. Sometimes, when they are very busy, it’s more “to the point” and all business, but not crappy. Besides, I’m not there to make a friend. The only reason that I'm not eating from there tonight? I waited too close to closing time and didn't want to be that “last minute jerk.” PS. Their Crab Rangoon is the sweeter version. I love them, but the GF doesn’t and prefers the more traditional CR. Also, I prefer their chicken and pork options over the beef. But, I’m like that with most all Chinese food establishments.

I have loved this place for about 17 or so years now. This is my favorite Chinese take out in middle tn. I highly recommend the s.11. Chicken and broccoli are great too. Super nice family run place. I passed at least 5 other Chinese places to get this.

I spent 56.00$ on wings and French fries. Nothing was fresh, chicken looked old, fries were burned looked old! I would never order from here ever again. Nothing was fresh at all. No sauce , no ketchup , no eating utensils. Absolutely horrible!

Google
So I tried this place because of the reviews and I have mixed feelings about this place that is making me reconsider if I want to go there again. I ordered the Chicken Chow Mein, - This was very good, enjoyed it. I also ordered the hot and sour soup. I have definitely had better. The soup was very thin and watery. I could only spot a few mushroom and a couple of pieces of tofu. The rest was all soup and again it was very thinned out. The next thing we ordered was the sweet and sour chicken. This was truly disappointing. The outside texture of the chicken wasn't golden brown as I am used to. It had an appearance that makes me feel that it was frozen and fried (looked like freezer burn) or it is batched cooked and kept warm. The outside had a "white like" freezer burn appearance. When you bite into it, the batter had separated from the chicken. It resembled crisy fried chicken versus and sweet and sour chicken. There was a gap between the batter and the chicken. So I would definitely not recommend it if this is the what it normally looks like. We did pay to upgrade the fried rice to the lo mein (it was $2.00, but that's pretty good). It tasted ok, but there was a smell when you opened up the box of burnt food. Overall, its not the worst, but I definitely have had in my opinion what I can call fresher and better prepared food.

There were several issues with this establishment, but the most alarming was discovering a maggot on the box my food came in.

Yelp
Alright King Chef, I don't know what tomfoolery you're trying to pull, but I know for a fact that there ain't no dang king cooking up on the pu pu platter in the back. Let this review be made known that I can only speak on the sweet and sour chicken combo platter. This review was nearly solidified on 3 stars, but upon opening our fortune cookies, our destinies were left unfulfilled. My heart is still longing to know what the fate has in store for little ol me. I guess I can't rely on the King to read my palms here, because breaking open our cookies was the equivalent to opening your presents on Christmas day only to be disheartened with an empty box. No fortunes. Sweet and Sour Chicken - basic all around, not great, but not bad, on the border of being good, but the great wall prevents it from crossing. It was dry with little flavor Sweet and Sour Sauce - hard to mess up, your standard sauce White Rice - looks like some heavy metals found their way into the terrace farms because mine had a metallic aftertaste Fried shrimp- These were pretty good, nice and crispy Crab Rangoons - Alright, these I enjoyed but I wish they were bigger! With the form factor of your middle school paper footballs, you can shmock 3 of these at a time

Yelp
Hubs brings this home for dinner 1-2 times per month as it's near his business. I usually get General Tsos or Chicken and Mushrooms, ALWAYS tasty! Hubs usually gets Peppersteak or Beef Lo Mein, also both really good. And I love their egg rolls! They're even good reheated the next day!

Yelp
They always get my online order right. It's fast and affordable. My go to dinner place when I'm working late.

Yelp
I have been getting takeout from here for over 10 years. Even after moving to the other side of Murfreesboro, nearly 20 miles away they are still my go to for quick take out. Chinese take out is literally the same no matter where are you in America. If you want "real" Chinese? Hit Chinatown in NYC or Montreal or Toronto.

Yelp
Food is always great servers are great as well we eat there all the time and never gotten a bad meal portions are a little above the competition

Yelp
Very good Chinese food. Great lunch special selections. Food is always hot and tasty. Prices are reasonable. Orders don't typically take too long to prepare.

Yelp
I had given a 5-star rating, but our last interaction with them was really unpleasant. They have never been friendly, but our most recent experience with them will definitely be our last. My husband and I have been loyal patrons to King Chef for over two years. He always gets the same dish, General Tsos Chicken with Lo Mein instead of rice (which is an upcharge). When my husband picked up the food, they gave him white rice instead of lo mein even though the receipt showed the upcharge for lo mein. He called and was super patient and understanding, he just wanted to see if he could pick up the lo mein he paid for. The woman was incredibly rude and just started yelling at him, "NO YOU DID NOT ORDER THAT!" even though it says lo mein on the receipt, AND when she read back the order to us on the phone she even said lo mein! Then she LIED and said "WE DON'T EVEN DO LO MEIN HERE!". My husband started questioning her about that considering we've been getting lo mein there for TWO YEARS and she then admitted they do have it and would fix it for him. Not even worth it, she probably spit in it! We want to support local businesses during the pandemic, but will not support people who aren't good to the people who keep them in business. If you want amazing food AND service, go to Karen's Thai Sushi instead!

Yelp
Y'all have to start wearing hair nets please!! Also I ordered chicken lomein but there was hardly any chicken in my bowl. Very dissatisfied ! Remember quality Over quantity. Y'all could learn from China Panda in Murfreesboro they got y'all po lil shop beat !

Noah M.

Yelp
It's edible, ya know? Not much else to say about it. Portions are decent, but not for the price you're paying. Service is meh at best. And the ambiance is that of a bodega. It's reasonably quick and easy. That's about it.

Yelp
We have been ordering from King Chef for years, and it has always been excellent. It's not fancy, but it's tasty and quick. I can count on one hand the number of times I've arrived and my order wasn't ready, and generally that was my fault. I love their pork lo mein. Servings are substantial and can be shared or used for the next day's lunch. The family who runs it is always nice, and it's easy to get in and out when the "clinic" next door isn't open. If you want a fast meal for a crowd, it's a great place to order.

Yelp
King Chef is amazing ! Everything is always hot & fresh when you get it ! Their Crab ragoon is my favorite. Fast , friendly service

Yelp
*Read all before you order!!!* Ordered house special lo mein. Noodles were burnt and extremely dry and it only had 3 shrimp in the entire qt size which came in the normal qt size square paper box. We also ordered 2 other qt sized dishes that they put in the the white Tupperware containers. After going in to ask if these containers were equivalent to the qt size boxes, they said they were. I then asked for them to transfer them into the box instead of the white Tupperware containers to prove it was actually a qt size , which they did...hesitantly. the Tupperware didn't fill the box so he said they would cook more to actually fill the boxes and give us what we paid for. The meal was over $60 and it was all bland and over cooked. Will NOT go back, it isn't what it used to be. Skimping people out of food isn't right. If I pay for a qt size I expect just that! Make sure to not accept qt size food that is put in the white Tupperware containers, it is NOT equivalent.

Yelp
It wasn't anything special and the service was average. I never got my egg roll but didn't want to wait any longer for it after I had send the first dish back because it was wrong.

Larry R.

Yelp
Today I placed an order and payed for online totaling $20.00 including tip. When I picked up my order, I wanted to purchase a soda that was $1.75. I wanted to use my debt card. They told me that to use my debt card, I would have to spend a minimum of $5.00. I informed them that I just spent $20. They reiterated that they would not sell me the soda. I left without a fuss, BUT I WONT BE BACK. The food is pretty good, but it is the principle. They probably bout the sodas dirt cheap and the cost to use that machine is probably less than 3%. In some states it is illegal to place a minimum charge on debit card transactions. I WON'T BE BACK.

Teresa R.

Yelp
Very upset and disappointed with the miscommunication. I ordered my food, got home to discover we are missing ingredients. I call the restaurant and there are no apologizes, or solutions! I have decided to stop giving my money to King Chef!!! Going to take our business elsewhere!

Yelp
First time ordering from here. I was bringing food to a friend who had surgery so I decided to get me some too. I live in Murfreesboro so probably won't be back. I ordered the C4 Boneless Spare Ribs. The color of the sauce was quite unusual, but tasted okay. It was the spare ribs that weren't any good. Shoe leather would probably be easier to chew. I have braces and envisioned softer easier to chew food. Most of it was so hard I couldn't eat it. The pieces that weren't as hard were very fatty. I mostly ate the white rice and eggroll. I was hungry and disappointed. My friend orders from there all the time and I probably would have liked something else, but I would never order C4 again.

Yelp
As a big lover of Chinese food, I have tried most of the places in Smyrna, and was yet to find one I wanted to go back to. That is, until I tried King Chef. The food is great and reasonably priced for the large portions they give you. Almost every time I get the General Tso's chicken, fried rice, and an eggroll. It never fails to impress, and always keeps me coming back for more. Their delivery time is quick too, although they don't deliver very far from their location. The people there are always friendly as well, and they've come to know me by order and start making it when they see me come in. Very friendly atmosphere. Try the crab rangoons too! Amazing.

Yelp
Very good made fresh right in front of you and inexpensive. I do a take out usually when I am in Smyrna for the Army. They are so willing to customize my food and make it extra extra spicy for me. I have eaten from here countless times and it has always been consistently good.

Adam B.

Yelp
The food here is great. Probably the best Chinese restaurant near me in Smyrna. Been going for over ten years ever since they opened!
google avatar

Yelp
This the best Chinese restaurant in middle Tennessee, the people is very clean and nice and the most important is : you get awesome food for few bucks ! I highly recommended as a healthy, testy, and affordable please to eat . Also you can call a head to place you order if you plan to pick up
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
They do not deliver and if they are unable to update their information accurately, I'm not sure I would trust them with my food. We really should add reviews for all of the Chinese food options available. It is time to seriously weed out these poor performing establishments.

Jessica L.

Yelp
My favorite Chinese restaurant in Smyrna. If it's your first time going I definitely recommend the wings but ask them to make it spicy and with white rice. Always great! And the whole staff also wears masks and sanitizes regularly from what I've seen!
google avatar

Mikki M.

Yelp
My favorite Chinese place in Smyrna! Love the crab ragoon and the special house fried rice. Can't go wrong with any of the combos. Service is always fast.

Yelp
Horrible. Absolutely horrible. My family used to frequent this place long ago and it was always delicious food at a reasonable price but over the last couple years they have hit rock bottom. I truly don't know how they are still open. I work within walking distance and have tried it for lunch and have got food poisoning TWICE from this establishment... absolutely pathetic. Not to mention I had an 11 year old girl take my to go order for my business because apparently she is in charge of running the register..... seriously?!
google avatar

Tammy H.

Yelp
Really good and great prices! I have had the chicken and broccoli and the chicken lo mein. The lo mein is the best that I have had from a take out place!
google avatar

Todd B.

Yelp
For $10 for two "small" (ate 3 meals on the chicken lo mein alone) entrees on New Years Eve, you can't beat it. The cashier is young but really sweet and impressive, and the staff all were friendly and worked hard to please. A perfect place for take out dining.

Yelp
They have the best prices of Chinese food in Smyrna.. They have $ 4.00 lunch specials and they have the best crab ragoons and wonton soup I have ever had.. The food is alway hot and fresh and its up the street from where I live... All in all I'm impressed and a I'm frequent customer
google avatar

Margaret H.

Yelp
Best Chinese this side of Smyrna. Been going there for many years, never disappointed.

Shantele M.

Yelp
Standard mostly take-out Chinese set up but food is really good. They get your order ready quickly & use great, fresh vegetables. Portions are so large I usually get 3 meals out of one dinner! Schezuan Tofu & General Tso's Tofu are both yummy! They know me when I come in.... I'm the "Tofu one!"
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
Pretty good sweet and sour chicken. Never had a problem here.

Mason M.

Yelp
I called and placed an order. I went to pick it up and was told I didn't call them. I showed where I called on my phone and spoke to someone. The woman still argued with me saying I didn't place an order. She was very rude and loud and I will never order from them again. This is absolutely ridiculous. You messed up and didn't make my food then argue with me and basically call me a liar. Seriously! Maybe they shouldn't have their child answering the phone.

Carrie M.

Yelp
I called ahead and it was ready in the 10-15 mins they quoted. Ordered the sesame chicken combo and the crab Rangoon. Love them both. Food is hot and fresh. The only place I grab takeout Chinese from in the LaVergne/Smyrna area.

Rick N.

Yelp
it was terrible I got kung pow chicken it was a what looked like all celery 4 mushrooms a few pieces of diced carrots 6 pieces of shaved chicken for 835 what a rip off ! the chicken lo mein had no flavor do yourself a favor and don't go there .
