Old Pono Farm Space to Become Sushi and Thai Restaurant | Eater Portland

"In Milwaukie, the SE King restaurant King Curry is a fairly well-liked neighborhood Thai spot with a predominantly Thai menu featuring staples from green and red curries through to pad thai and pad see-ew, and a handful of non-Thai items such as orange chicken and teriyaki." - Tim Forster

Google
The food here is affordable and the staff is very friendly. I love the aesthetics of this place. There's not a lot of parking outside but it's sufficient. The orange chicken is decent and they so is the masaman curry. It's a quaint little place and you might as well give it a try if you're in town.

I love these Pad Thai Lobster always get them each time I visit King Curry 😋 & the appetizers are pleasantly satisfying. 😊

Google
One of my favorite restaurants in the area with many authentic dishes. I’ve eaten here many times and have never had a bad experience. I’d recommend the Thai pumpkin curry, pad Thai or crispy basil chicken. Can’t go wrong eating here!

Peaceful little setting for lunch. Great food and friendly service! Very fair prices. Check this place out if you haven’t yet.

Google
Affordable prices, great food, and good value. This is the best Thai in the area. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

Google
Food was top notch I loved it and saved this place as a favorite

Google
This place is the definition of hole in the wall, but in the best way! The food was the best Thai I have ever had. And I love Thai! My husband and I got the yellow curry and their wontons. SO GOOD!! Their service was crazy fast and they are so nice!! 10/10 would recommend!! (Only pic we got of the meal)

Google
Our favorit little sit down Thai restaurant just remodeled ( even cuter, brighter inside ). Always love chicken satay skewers;

Yelp
I took out-of-town friends here the other day. One friend said her larb was the best she'd ever had. I tried it and it was excellent. My tom kha was also delicious. Be aware that although "medium spicy" is pretty wimpy in some other restaurants, it had quite a kick here - not complaining, it was just at my limit, but will probably order a bit milder next time. They've recently changed the decor, also - much more minimalist, seems a bit cold compared to before, but the weird chairs aren't as uncomfortable as they look. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could because it feels less cozy with the new decor - but the food is great!

Yelp
It started with Pad Se Ew, which was excellent, so we started working our way through their lunch specials. Solid offerings and my current favorite is the Cashew Nut with chicken. It will be hard to move on from that order. Another top choice is the Red Curry, which we think is a tad better than the Panang Curry. Appreciate that they have lunch specials for $12 (Monday - Friday until 3:00p), which are still a nice sized portion. Pleasant environment to dine in and efficient when ordering to go.

Yelp
This place is amazing. We live a mile away and we would go here weekly if we could. we get the shrimp salad rolls with their delicious peanut sauce and chicken pad. Thai. I highly recommend trying the appetizer sampler plate if it's your first time!

J J.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Their yellow curry and pad see eww are delicious!! I will definitely be returning.

John T.

Yelp
Racist against anyone not Asian , completely ignored us. Food was bland and overpriced for its taste. Would NOT recommend !

Yelp
Ordered to-go so I'm not aware of the restaurant settings, but they did have the to-go food prepared quickly and it was DELICIOUS! Ordered the chicken yellow curry w/ medium spice. I always try to be careful with Thai spice because it's usually off the scales, but the medium was a bit less than I expected. I think I'll go a little spicer next time! Also, I was pleasantly surprised that it was a little sweeter than most other yellow curry, and I was not mad about it. There was plenty of veggies and protein. I also ordered the Thai coffee but drank it too fast for a picture. It was the exact pick-me-up that was needed! It was smooth and just the right amount of sweet to calm my sweet tooth I will definitely be ordering from here again!

Yelp
The best Thai around. Great service, fresh ingredients. I almost always get the appetizer sampler, chicken Pad Thai and chicken Tom Kha and it is consistently delicious.

Yelp
Great food and service. It's different since the owners aren't there or have changed. Sill really good food.

Yelp
Ordered a dish with eggplant and which had one small slice of eggplant. When addressed to staff at restaurant was told that is what I ordered .. yes I ordered a eggplant dish but did expect more than one small slice of eggplant .. wish I had a better response from staff. There r finer Thai places close by that I would rather give my business to .

Yelp
Favorite Thai spot in the area! Love the food here. Very flavorful and their food is actually pretty spicy. Staff if very friendly

James B.

Yelp
A great local spot for take out. Food quality is consistently great, they're fast and happy, and tasty dishes. Just left a review for all the times we've gone there

Todd P.

Yelp
The food is consistently good. The service is great regardless of how many customers eat in, take out or Door Dash. It's a low-key eating experience and the recent remodel helps calm the space. My personal touchstone for local Thai food.
google avatar

M K.

Yelp
This is my go to Thai spot. Really great food. Isn't too spicy, good flavor, and fresh ingredients. We don't eat out much anymore, but this place is a treat.

Billie H.

Yelp
we ordered from this place because of positive reviews. After 30 mins of wait, they cancelled our order without any explanation and without an apology.
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
If I could give this place another star I would. King Curry delivers every single time. The salad rolls are absolutely the freshest in town. You have to get them! I love this place and I'm so happy that we have it in our community.

Yelp
Our go-to Thai restaurant in the Portland area! We live nearby and order takeout from king curry at least once a week. I'm vegan and they always make sure to follow the special instructions I include (e.g. no egg on pad Thai). The food is always delicious, our order is always ready quickly, and the staff are friendly. Definitely a hidden gem. Highly recommend!

Mark C.

Yelp
Buyer beware. Good food. Horrible service. Made a big mistake and gave them a generous tip, only to discover they left out 2 items from our meal.

Mikayla S.

Yelp
Amazing food every time. Small space inside but it's very nice intimate and cozy. Employees are nice.

Yelp
I love this place and frequent it about once a week. The staff is friendly. They are very accommodating with vegan options. They are also very quick. My only complaint is that I can't seem to consistently get very spicy when I ask for it. I live *very* spicy curries and sometimes King Curry does a great job. Other times it's still quite mild. I wish there was a way to consistently get it to a very high spice level and assure them I won't return it! I try adding tons of the oil and chili flakes at the table or at home when it comes back mild but it really isn't the same and starts to get bitter before reaching the spice level I'd like. I wouldn't give less stars as I have no clue what the issue is and do enjoy the food. Maybe different cooks or even just too many experiences with people returning food. If there are any tips on how to order my food to get it *very* spicy, let me know. I try saying very very spicy, Thai hot, etc but it still comes back mild/medium half the time. It seems to be happening more lately too which is a bummer. Anyway, still recommend this place! I doubt many want their food that spicy anyway. :)

Pamela S.

Yelp
I used to love this place everything was always good. Yesterday April 28th 2024 was the WORST Tempura I think I have ever had. I also ordered the shrimp rice rolls that must have been at least 24 hrs old, the lettuce they used was brown. Ordered a side of sticky rice, it was so sticky and over cooked I could not cut it with my fork. I would Never recommend this place to anyone. The staff was very unfriendly, they still charged me for the rice I could not eat. I wished I would have taken pictures. Very disappointed customer.
google avatar

Candice C.

Yelp
Could be good but it was mush sadly. The pad see ew noodles melted and joined together in my to go container. The flavors were there, but the texture was disappointing. I think the container needed a little ventilation unless the noodles were stuck together upon arrival.

Yelp
Got Massamun Curry for delivery. Delivery was prompt by Postmates. My curry costed me $12.50 and the portion is insanely small for that price. Hardly any broth, and the rice was so over cooked it was a solid piece.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
I just had an order delivered. I spent $72 and this food is so spicy that no one in my household can eat it. Very poor and inconsistent cooks. Unfortunately, they will do nothing about it. I've eaten inside the restaurant and had take out in the past without any issues.
google avatar

Lee M.

Yelp
Really Good food and nice portions BUT: usually long wait ( about double whatever they tell you), and best to double check to go bag/box as items in my order left out the last 2 visits ( they are busy yummy spot).
google avatar

Poppy L.

Yelp
It's close by, I do takeout there all the time, and hasn't made me sick once. They used to confuse my orders there, but it's gotten better over the last several months. Service is efficient, with zero smiles to share. I enjoy their chicken noodles and Kao soi gai. Noodle dishes sometimes too greasy as is tempura. Bbq chicken plate sooo bad. Nothing special on the salt and pepper squid, salad rolls, or most soups.
google avatar

Frances L.

Yelp
They have some pretty decent lunch specials, which i usually grub hub to the house. They never disappoint.. The dinner rush in the restaurant itself has a wait time for a table pretty long, that being said the have a sushi bar, and so many dinner options it was quite daunting I believe there where over 40 items to choose from for dinner (yikes) maybe more. So it took awhile to narrow down the choices, everything was cooked perfectly. My only complaint is the food doesn't come out at the same time for all guest my husband and I got our food at least 10 minutes before our youngest got his. So it was awkward to begin out meal while he was still waiting..

Yelp
Food is wonderful I really like number 63 which is the house curry. It's got lots of peanuts in it and vegetables and just wonderful. It taste almost like the peanut sauce. You dip your salad rolls in. The service was so so. But the food was hot and delicious.
google avatar

Mike P.

Yelp
Got the green curry last night and it was very lacking in flavor. Unfortunately this is not the first time that this has been my experience with the curries here. The salad rolls were also small compared to other Thai restaurants. Unless and until they improve I'm probably not going back.

Yelp
Great food! We had the garlic chicken and cashew nut both served with steamed white rice. We ordered ours medium spicey and it was a perfect level of heat. Very fresh tasting and full of flavors. You could taste more than the spice. Great customer service and the price is comparable and spot on for the quality and quantity. Very relaxed hip vibe inside. They have sushi as well so I will try that next time. I will go back. Very good food.

R B.

Yelp
Great place! I love the pumpkin curry. Even though I have to order it with no spice it still have excellent flavors and a hint of spice and big delicious chunks of pumpkin. So glad it's close to home.

D D.

Yelp
We've been eating here for years. It's so yummy. We've been turned on to new food here as well. I love their curry puffs. They have great Pad See Ew and crispy basil chicken. I almost always get it to go but the service has been good the couple of times I've eaten inside. The down side would be their spice is inconsistent.

Yelp
I never had a craving for Thai food but I caved into my wife have tried a couple of Thai restaraunts but still wasn't impressed. We moved to our new house last summer and my wife noticed this tests not far from home and a couple of weeks ago I gave in again and we visited this establishment for lunch. Wow it was delicious and we have had lunch twice there now. It has limited seating maybe 10 small tables but has a comfortable atmosphere and the staff goes overboard to promptly take care of you and check back with you. They do offer takeout. Both of us have loved the different dishes we have tried and we will be again soon! PS, guess I'm a Thai food fan after all, at least at restaurant.

Yelp
I order takeout from here often- chicken pad Thai and curry are our 'go to's. Always delicious and always fast. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I used Eat24 for the first time to order up some Thai relatively close to home. This location didn't offer delivery so I did carry out. I ordered the chicken larb ($10), in the comments section I wrote "medium spicy" and a Thai iced tea ($3.75). Okay, $3.75 is the most expensive Thai iced tea I've ever seen. It wasn't *that* good, to be that expensive. It was a 16oz to go cup with a lot of ice (I did see you could order it without ice on the menu). Larb is a good barometer for a Thai place, I think. Pad thai is pretty hard to mess up but larb can definitely be better at some places and worse at others. If you've never had it, larb is a ground meat salad with chili, lime and lettuce slices. You kinda make your own little soothing lettuce wraps or lettuce boats stuffed with spicy, tangy cool meat. It also keeps well overnight for leftovers, so you can stretch it to two meals. The Eat24 estimate was 6:26 for pickup and when I showed up at 6:20, they weren't ready yet, so I would say the estimate is pretty accurate. The place was moderately busy and there was another to-go order in front of me. When I got my food home, I was surprised at how spicy medium spicy was. I like spicy, I think Tim's Jalapeno are mild and Flamin' Hot Cheetos are medium. This had some limey tangy kick to it! I liked the spice, and at home I put on probably a 1/4 tsp of chili paste (like the small bottle of sriracha) and maybe 1/2-1tsp sriracha. The lettuce (cabbage?) boats were crisp and fresh, I enjoyed that a lot. I ate about half, leaving half for leftovers and felt satisfied. I felt $15 with a tip was pretty expensive for one dinner in a strip mall but if you think of it as two meals, it feels better, to me at least. I took a carry out menu to keep on my fridge, so I liked it enough to eat it again. I'm not sure I'd use Eat24 again, I don't really see any benefit over picking up the phone. If King Curry offered Yelp cash back, I'd use that, but there's no gain to using Eat24 here. The place is pretty small, maybe 10 tables and 5-6 bar spots with 1-2 tables outside. It can feel at max capacity even when it's only half full. I'm glad I got it to go! I saw someone had a thai iced tea in like an ice cream sundae cup, so I think my to go Thai IT was larger than the in house one but maybe the cups are the same size.

Yelp
I've been a customer here for years until today. First off extremely rude people working here now. They used to have the best pad Thai now it's gross. $25 does not go very far here for the amount of food you actually get!!

Brandon G.

Yelp
Delicious Pad Woon Sen! Came out very fast and hot! I'll be back for sure. Service was excellent. Parking is good too being in a strip mall.
google avatar

Gin P.

Yelp
I ordered through door dash and I got my order on time. But unfortunately the yellow curry had undercooked potatoes and carrots. I gave it 2 stars because the curry broth was good but the veggies were not. The rice was kind of dry. I won't be ordering from this place again.

Tailee M.

Yelp
Last time I went here the staff got my order wrong twice in the same transaction. Was really pissed. Order was over $100 even with all the mistakes. Staff has become very rude.
google avatar

Dillon D.

Yelp
This was the first time we have visited this restaurant, and it surely will not be our last. The orange chicken was the best we have ever had, and we have had it from a lot of places. My wife and I cannot recommend ordering that enough. Also, the cozy shrimp were immaculate. The fried breading and flavor were perfect. The prices were reasonable. We just found ourselves a new favorite restaurant!

Kat P.

Yelp
Got home, my takeout order was someone else's. Called to tell them, asked for a refund. They insisted I needed to come back for my order. When I said it was end of the night and I didn't want to come back, they insisted my order was same price as one they gave me, so no refund. I ordered low carb dishes with pork and chicken and the wrong order was a noodle dish and a fried rice one, both with tofu. Their food is good but costumer service in this case was Terrible!

Kartik R.

Yelp
Terrible food. Ordered take out from here. Arrived on time and fast but everything we ordered was sweet. The curry dishes were very watery.

Daniel B.

Yelp
Management was extremely rude when a refund or replacement was requested due to not including enough soup in the Khao soi we ordered (see picture). Management laughed at us and refused any accommodation or refund. Management was also rude to us when we asked for waters while waiting for food in another occasion. This would be tolerable if their food was worth it, but even their best dishes are mediocre (their sticky rice is atrocious, for instance). Avoid at all costs.

Yelp
30Sept29 @ 11:30am We had salad rolls with shrimp, bbq pork fried rice and green curry with pork delivered. The meal arrived on time and hot. Never had delivered food arrive hot so that was a nice surprise. The fried rice was quite good with nice taste and texture and plenty of egg, tomato etc. but instead of just bbq pork there was bbq pork and chicken which was fine but not what was ordered. The salad rolls were really lettuce rolls with one shrimp. They were still good with the tasty peanut sauce. The green curry was mostly bamboo shoots and had chicken instead of the pork that was ordered and seemed spicier than the level two that was requested. Overall not bad with the fried rice being the best.

Yelp
Everything is bomb. Their service is quick--especially for call ins. Highly recommend for a neighborhood Thai takeout spot.
google avatar

Kari L.

Yelp
King Curry is my go to Thai restaurant in Milwaukie! My favorite items are pineapple Fried Rice, vegetable tempura, and Thai Stir Fried Pumpkin with Chicken. They make all goods mild and you can ask to spice it up. I always order extra for lunches and find the dishes work out to $8-$10 an item.

Chris G.

Yelp
Been ordering from/eating here for several years. The food has always been good, when dining in the atmosphere a is comfortable and the staff has always been friendly, helpful and attentive.

Titi A.

Yelp
We would frequent this restaurant. Spent lots of $ here. Today will be the last. Called in a order, lady on the phone was really rude. As I am ordering she is rushing me off the phone. She doesn't even care that I need some ingredients taken out due to allergies. I ordered 2 plates. Because she rushed me off the phone & didn't want to listen, everything was wrong. So I get there to pick it up the food & she didn't even put in 2 plates. The order came out wrong so now I wait another 15 minutes (already 45 mins). The 2nd time they bring out the food it's still wrong. These people working there don't care about us. I was in the restaurant industry for more than 20 years and this is NOT ACCEPTABLE customer service. We work hard to eat out, if you want to have a awesome experience DO NOT GO HERE! They just lost loyal customers & i will spread the word so noone gets treated like this.

Yelp
Seriously authentic Thai food. This place's food is soooo good. My friends are obsessed with their yakisoba noodles. They ordered that dish two days in a row. I got their pad Thai, and it was DELICIOUS. I gulped down 3/4 of that plate in 10 minutes. That stuff is so good. I look forward to trying this place again and again.
